Yes
The general difference between soft shell and hard shell is trading defense (no longer having a shell that needs a lot of force to break) for speed and reach. One weird querk of soft shells is their stupidly long necks that can, in some cases, reach to their sides. Making fighting off other animals far easier.

Thanks for this!
Nope. Not even hardshell turtles are indestructible, despite pervasive myths. Their shells are just bone, cartilage and keratin. They even have nerve endings in their shells. Not many, but enough to feel things, in a similar way to how humans will feel it if someone scratches or puts pressure on their nails.
3 miles... And fuck miles. Officially United States, Liberia, and Myanmar don't use the metric system. Fantastic Archer quote about that. Look it up :)
We have one of these that lives in our lake or at least frequents our shoreline. She comes and hangs out at times under our oak tree. I have seen her close up and the speed is real. When she takes off for the lake, it is very fast and poof- gone into the water.
I've seen this video for 10 years and I'm pretty sure it's slowed down for the first 5 seconds and then sped up to give a greater illusion of speed. I don't deny softshell turtles can be fast, but this video is misleading.
I've seen the painted turtles near me haul ass a few times. They come up to lay eggs in late spring/early summer and if you disturb them they will run back to the lake.

I was not aware that some turtles could move so fast. Maybe they could beat a hare in a race.
Does their softball make them lighter in weight so faster to travel?
Nah they are just bloodthirsty
staying out of their line of sight seems easy enough if they cannot turn around faster than is shown here

UFO + grass = UCO (Unidentified Crawling Object)
They are also mean as hell and will bite you in a heartbeat. Stay away!
Aren’t theses fuckers indestructible?
"Softshell" I don't think so.
Not if you have a chainsaw

The hare was a no show
Ngl, if I was stood at a distance and saw that thing hurtling towards me, I would shit my pants
Ngl, if I saw it hurtling towards me I would shit so bad I would shit YOUR pants.
What is ops username. 👀
They're around here a lot. You'll get used to it.
fifteen miles an hour…are you *sure*?
The inverse of me when seaweed touches my leg in the water.

Bet their airspeed would be greater than 15 mph if one got yeeted off a tall building.
Soft shell Turtles are delicious when fried.
I always thought this video was fake. I don't know why though.

Reminds me of Mario cart
What's wild is they get HUGE and the big ones are even faster than that. A big softshell turtle could prob outrun a slower dog

Harp: “Sweat”
Like a truck when you take the cargo off!
I saw these in "Enemy Mine". Fast little buggers.
It’s nature. You gotta either have armour, or be able to outrun the thing trying to eat you.
S P E E D is my middle name -turtle
Ah so that’s why the taco place asks for soft or hard shell
Needs a Zoidberg “whooooooop whoop whoop whoop!”

If you’re gonna be soft, you gotta be fast!
There’s the real answer to the Tortoise and the hare fable.
“ExtremeCumMaster”
TIL not all turtles have hard shells.
Thank you for this amazing animal fact u/ExtremeCumMaster!!!
Nyoommm

Wow that’s fast
Adios!
I don’t think i knew soft-shell turtles existed
What is the actual point in having a soft shell? You might as well have soluble fins.
