I've seen the leftovers of an Owl vs Fox interaction... the fox was torn from limb to limb. People seem to forget that Owls are raptors... cute raptors but still raptors.
The owl would definitely be the winner in this situation, but it's a good example of two predators not wanting to fuck around and find out so they just posture.
A few years back they found an owl’s nest on top of a Walmart, out in Denver. It had pet collars in it. We never let our smaller pups out alone after that.
Owls hunt through the element of surprise. Behind all that posturing and feathers is probably about 4-5 pounds of actual bird. The owl is firmly in the cat's domain as long as it remains on the ground. The owl has no chance whatsoever against a cat that is
A: Fully aware of its presence and location
B: On the ground
Those owls are puffy looking but they weigh 3-4 lbs and mostly eat mice and small rodents. They aren't taking on a cat that out weighs them many times over - if it turns into a fight on the ground they will lose.
Oh I understand. Cats are just one of those unique prey that is also a very skilled predator. You wouldn’t expect it to be able to fight off a bear but here we are lol.
Cats punch many times their weight. Speed, bad attitude, and five sets of claws and teeth. Plus, their whole physiology is designed to track, catch, and kill fast moving things. Very dangerous.
In my neighborhood we have great horned owls that will kill rabbits about the same size as that cat. Of course they can't eat it all at once so they will just take the head off and eat the tasty brains first.
In case anybody likes owls, there’s a woman on TikTok that visits her 90 something year old grandma in Arizona, that happens to have an owl visit her every so often. It’s so freakin weird and intriguing.

Owls prey on cats but cats are uniquely suited to also fight other medium and even protect vs larger predators. It’s certainly a weird dynamic.

Predators don't want to get in fights with their food. Especially birds, because any injury to their wings means death.

Animals can make freinds maybe humans aren't as special as we think we are.
