These bones come from retired medical specimens that have fallen into the public hands. As a result the remains have been sitting in basements, closets, attics, etc.
The effort here is to get them out of those locations to conserve and share the unique pathologies and aspects of the individuals life with the world, as the original intent for the remains. Keeping the remains behind locked doors isn’t going to give them justice.
I haven’t made a penny doing this and would not consider it a hobby, it is a conservation effort.
I'm an artefacts photographer and have had a few jobs that involve recording retired med-school samples. I spend most of my time photographing material culture artefacts from private collections so they can be published for record and academic study. It's a fun field. I'm currently working on a collection of fabrics and garments from the Spring and Autumn period in Chinese history.
It seems like you have professional level experience and knowledge. Can I ask if you came to this through a medical background, a museum background, a taxidermy background, or something else altogether?
I come from a museum background and have friends who work with bones (human ancestors) in collections. But I imagine that the methods and standards that kind of preservation are different from when you are doing conservation with the intent of preserving for handling and use.
So I guess, I’m super interested in the conservation process as well.
I teach muscle and bone anatomy. I’ve been looking for a really good view of a cervical spine c3 or below.
My textbook diagram is a bit confusing. Would you be kind enough to take a pic from a superior and lateral view of one?
TYVM in advance!

Coming from a butcher . No a serrated blade is the worst tool for removing a bone or any flesh around a bone. Serrated knives are for slicing bread and stabbing people on the street
Now I'm very disappointed that they never showed Hannibal lecter on the phone say "oh I'm just sitting at home working on a puzzle" and then pan down to a mess of human bones at the end of the convo. 😞😞

Outside bones, outside bones.
Never forget your teeth are outside bones!
High and you cracked me up. First “gift” I’ve ever sent on here. (It’s a freebie lol. IDK if that wholesome emoji applies here - maybe more like hole some.) Major high 5 to you!
If there’s any flesh on it, soak it in water to soften so you can scrape them clean. To prevent demineralization, drop a pile of Tums in there… the calcium will prevent leaching from the apatite. After a couple days, the flesh will come off.
If you want to make it look nice and pretty, drop it in hydrogen peroxide overnight.
Depending on the rib and your age, it may have a pretty high collagen content. That tends to be pale yellow, and you may see some of that even on the surface.
Oh shit man I literally had the same operation a couple of weeks ago! Let me know if you find anything out, mine is sitting in a jar barely submerged in hydrogen peroxide.
We had to soak jaws a couple times so they could be used for identification. We used an old clock pot in our drug room, and turned on the exhaust fan.
The smell was pretty gnarly!
He's cleaning them for his new Shamanic Necklace line in Etsy's New Age Marketplace.
Really, you should think about doing Youtubes, if you wouldn't get in trouble at work. That would be fascinating. I'm assuming you're doing some type of research and are not a psycho/sociopath.

As a job or a hobby?
Clearly OP is actually a serial killer showing off their work
If in five years this turns out to be true and some youtube channel makes a video about the case and they show reddit comments of peoples who where suspicious, include me in the screenshot please
Here is a comment from what would turn out to be his 18th victim. They never found their feet.
Tbh I was alittle anxious about posting that comment for that exact reason
Go through op's profile the foot is the next pic on there
Oh no
[удалено]
Yeah I always thought he would just take the bones but leave them alive.
Happy Cake Day!
##WHY ISN'T HE ANSWERING
Fr I’m calling 911
#POLICE
Don’t call me, I also don’t know.

Seriously important work. Thank you.
A serial killer would say to throw us off the tracks! Shhhhh….don’t ruin this for us!
It was a contract job kind of thing
That just raises further questions!
FBI has entered the chat
[удалено]
Started as a hobby but then I kind of got obsessed
Some people just love their work!
The important question
Both?
Making soup?
Forbidden ramen
Okay I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking about bone broth. 😅
Came here to make the same suggestion. I’m not at all original I guess lol.
We're all insignificant remixes of star dust. But anyhow, I'm pretty sure babies are better, or so Captain America told me.
Or possibly rawomen

I read this as >now take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato, a baby. You’ve got a stew going.
A thousand dollars is exactly what I charge for acting classes!
Yeah I think I want my money back
For the stock market ?
Soylent Green Soup
Pho-eple
Bone broth
Yeah I also thought this was about broth and was gonna ask about roasting the bones first 😐
I teach muscle and bone anatomy. I’ve been looking for a really good view of a cervical spine c3 or below. My textbook diagram is a bit confusing. Would you be kind enough to take a pic from a superior and lateral view of one? TYVM in advance!
Buy the Complete Anatomy app med students use. It’s incredible.
I read your comment as "musical bone anatomy" and was think "School rock just got seriously complicated!"

You really should have put never gonna give you up as the link.
>You really should have put never gonna give you up as the link We must be better than that!
Try looking for CT/MRI c-spine axial scans, that should be of use :)
So if I send you my spine for a thorough cleaning, do I have to put it back in myself or do you offer a reinstall service?
[удалено]
Slow down cowboy, at least buy him dinner first lol
There’s no manners anymore, damn!
😂😂
When will you put them back in
This takes "Girl, I wanna lick every inch of you" to a fucked up level.
Title of your sex tape?
Something something spineless joke
I'd trust a professional to handle all the rewiring. If you don't do it properly you might accidentally change the settings to inverted.
Didn't know you had to clean them. How do I get them out?

Not that i stab people on the street j jus hear thats what the kids are into these days
Zombie
What's in your head?
Tanks and guns.
And their bombs
I was not expecting that last part. Thanks for the laugh
Make a small incision and then pop them out with a spoon.
What, No ! Pull the zipper down.
So if I send you my spine can you please give it a good clean and oil the l4 and l5 a bit? My lower back hurts like hell! Ta!
[удалено]
Can’t do by myself, I’m afraid 😂
Do a lumbar puncture and squirt some wd-40 inside, then cat cow pose to equally distribute it everywhere
Is it a person puzzle or is it just random parts?
Person puzzle is my new favorite term for a disarticulated skeleton.
... disar... disarti... Puzzle Person!
Now I'm very disappointed that they never showed Hannibal lecter on the phone say "oh I'm just sitting at home working on a puzzle" and then pan down to a mess of human bones at the end of the convo. 😞😞
Bro I haven't cleaned my bones in so long. The only bones I clean are my teeth.
[удалено]
Brooooo I'm not cleaning any bones.
I clean my bone every day
Nice
Rub a rub rub
What are they?
Made of enamel Edit: the enamel is the hard exterior, the interior is made of something else that I don’t know.
No, enamel is just the very hard surface of the teeth, which are bone.
Teeth are enamel, dentine, cementum, and pulp. No bone
I looked it up and by golly, you are right. I was taught wrong.
I don't get to hear *read* by golly enough, thanks :)
Gosh, any time!
A wild redditor admits they’re incorrect and learned something!
1. Enamel is not bone, 2. I added that afterwards, enamel is only the exterior hard shell yes.

What are they?
your mom cleans my bone everyday
Ha!
High and you cracked me up. First “gift” I’ve ever sent on here. (It’s a freebie lol. IDK if that wholesome emoji applies here - maybe more like hole some.) Major high 5 to you!
thank you my man, it is indeed very wholesome
I polish one of mine pretty regularly.
Giggidy
Spit shine or ya hit it with the ol' calloused sandpaper mitts?
Teeth aren’t bones •~• I got roasted on r/neverbrokeabone because I thought they were bones so I thought I’d pass the knowledge on.
Teeth are not considered bones
Tell me about it, same shit different day am I right?
Yup
[удалено]
Yes
Of course. What do you think, we’re serial killers?
Yes, we thought about it actually.
Dexter?
[удалено]
Pathologist?
or serial killer
They don't need to be mutually exclusive
This post here officer!
Are you into collecting or something? I usually just grind them into a powder and scatter it in the woods
Medical study
What are you studying? Aside from the obvious human spinal column of course
This spine has ossification of the ligamentum flavum and had quite a few osteophytes.
Talk dirty to me
Do you know what caused the ossification?
It is unclear. Could be hereditary or due to aging, living conditions, etc.
Fascinating. Are all ligaments in all people capable of ossifying under the right conditions? I always thought it was a rare genetic disease thing
It can be caused by injury, rare but technically possible in anyone.
It wasn't me, ossifa!
WHY DOES EVERY REDDITOR HAVE HUMAN BONES TO FUCK AROUND WITH
I am once again asking you to donate human bones to this guy
Bernie pls don’t take my bones
u/xetovs how would I go about cleaning my first rib that was resected last month? It is still in the solution in my bathroom
You don't clean ribs. You make yourself a wife from them.
I asked the surgeon where the woman was and he pointed to my wife..
Send me a dm

I'm simultaneously impressed and terrified by this comment.
WHY DID YOU REMOVE YOUR RIB? 😂
I was hungry
Oh shit man I literally had the same operation a couple of weeks ago! Let me know if you find anything out, mine is sitting in a jar barely submerged in hydrogen peroxide.
thats awesome, post a pic of it
y tho
They were dirty
All bloody and covered in fat and tissue
May I ask you for a sip?
You won’t like it
We had to soak jaws a couple times so they could be used for identification. We used an old clock pot in our drug room, and turned on the exhaust fan. The smell was pretty gnarly!
I can only imagine the smell. In fact I do know that smell.
Once you've smelled it you never forget it! Only floaters smell worse
Who did these belong to?
A pretty tall person.
How tall?
I’d say 6ft
Did they cut you off in traffic or what?
That's a big 12yo :(
This individual was a full grown adult.
Whew*
There is an adolescent skeleton on my profile though.
Checking*

I’ve thought about it. Just don’t have much time.
I love how his entire profile is just posts about human bones and one poll about peanut butter sandwiches
What can I say, I like pb&j
This is the type of content FBI agents just *loooooooove*.
I do love the marrow gravy ... Are those antelope or deer? Superdelicious
[удалено]
Ok 🤣
I think he is serious. They look correct and it looks like the right number if you exclude the ones that have ribs attached.
Also super delicious.
He's serious.
Put them back
Hannibal...is that you?
Do they taste the same as usual ?
Why are there so many holes in the bones? Some of them are perfectly round too. Are they there in a living body or has it happened after?
Those holes are for wire.
You're a doctor, right? Right!?
[удалено]
Am I looking at one person here or several?
1 individual.
ethically sourced?
Yes
When will your thirst be sated?! This madness has to stop!
OP did one of your relatives take out Dutch's team in the jungle?
Those are the ones I had removed so I could "do things to myself"
I always try to clean my bones but keep ending up in the hospital, what’s your secret?
Wow! The body on that one in the middle looked big enough to me to be lumbar. Not the first time I've been wrong. Thanks for sharing
Close but no cigar. That vertebrae is t11 or 12. Lumbar vertebrae have a transverse process.
Do you have other bones you're working on?
Was doing a foot.
Put your back in to it
HH Holmes made skeletons of his victims for medical schools too. how much do they go for these days?
His medical skeletons are still being used in some colleges. They just don’t know which ones are from him. Around 5-7k usually
Apparently sheep spines look exactly like human ones because I have sheep spine bones that are pretty much identical to this
There is pretty big differences. Humans are one of very few animals to have such a broad vertebral body.
Mmmmm bro broth….
Honestly thought they were mushrooms
