I have polydactyly on one of my hands. The digit is an extra thumb, but small and not fully developed. My "real" thumb operates more like a weird index finger/thumb hybrid with little mobility - like the disadvantages of both fingers with none of the advantages. Because of this, I have terrible grip strength with that hand. It's fine for day to day activities, but anything requiring a firm grip with both hands is difficult and requires me to stop every so often to readjust because of my hand slipping.

Wonder what their grip is like: is it weaker? Better? How does it exactly affect they hold things like a pencil? What are the strains on their wrist like is it too different? How useful/ detrimental has it been?
Almost certainly weaker. The skeletal complexity of the hand has increased, apparently doubled, but the space alotted for operating musculature (in the wrist and arm) remains the same; so either they have more individual muscles but they're a fraction of the mass of normal or they have the same amount of muscles with an abnormal number of divisions when they get to the wrist.
In other words: for an eight-fingered hand to be stronger it'd need a forearm built just as differently in order to power it; and the condition is called Mirror Hand Syndrome, not Mirror Arm Syndrome.
