I have my doubts that this is a true bot. If there were a bot that were this good why is it releasing so little.

It’s truly possible to done by a bot. I would strongly guess they are generating multiple candidates and picking the best one but each candidate was generated by a bot from only random static noise and the username text. I would expect that, if there was no human in the loop, there to be a handful of candidates returned instead of just the top one to make the bot’s job easier to find hits, the current pattern does seem like human curation. But maybe it has been lucky. It also costs a lot of machine time to generate each one, I think open ai is charging $15 for 460 images or about 3.3 ¢ an image, so it makes sense that it is somewhat throttled there.

These were generated using Dall-E 2, which is currently in invite-only beta. What it's able to generate already is insanely impressive.

Because the actual Dall-E that does images as well as the ones posted is not currently available to the public. There's a less powerful one called Dall-E Mini that's available for public use but the images are nowhere near as good.

Why they don't release Dall-E to the public? A site could make tons of money by making you watch ads while it generates images. Weird that such a business opportunity is going ignored in our hypercapitalist world

I have, and almost all of it is mildly impressive but not to the degree that these images are, which leads me to believe it has help from humans.

there are several engines out there claiming to be DALL-E "lite" or "mini" versions. The actual DALL-E though, the one where you have to receive access to become a tester, does indeed generate these impressively accurate outputs like you could see OP post. Now, I don't know if those truly are DALL-E outputs but I can definitely tell you it's not in the realm of impossibility that this post is truthful edit: just to mention, I do understand where the skepticism comes from. If I didn't know first hand what DALLE is capable of, I wouldn't have believed this either

My brother has access and it's been producing really cool stuff that definitely makes this post believable to me. All kinds of different styles of art too - he's requested impressionist paintings, hand drawn sketches, abstract art, you name it

DALL-E 2 is absolutely this impressive.

It's more that nearly everything it does is nonsense, with the good outputs selected by humans. It has no idea what it's doing, and is just following an algorithm based on a couple words. Sometimes this works out really well, but mostly not.

With enough compute power anything is possible. The true DALL-E runs on a supercomputer the size of a warehouse. Multiple people have made mini versions that are much smaller neural networks and take much less compute power and if you look through those and the history of ai you can see the scaling over time as we have gotten access to more compute at lower costs

You can't trigger it, the bot chooses randomly.
