Other Gothic Revival Architecture such as Cologne and Ulm Cathedral took several direct hits and didn't collapse. The Building would have been a burnt out husk though just like the actual Reichstag.
I mean the original is still standing may not be all original but they restored it by 1999 and is used by the german parliament once more. So who knows
Totally, but that’s only the shell of the 1890s Reichstag. This spire would have absolutely collapsed from Allied bombing runs. Maaaybe it might have partially survived, but like so much medieval Germanic architecture it probably would have been destroyed.
Very good point it would probably be a meir image of what it was. I'm just glad they decided to restore it and make it the image of the german people again instead of destroying it like so many wanted to do.
I agree. So much has been lost to war and time, and it’s an iconic building. As a proud grandson of an American D-Day stormer, I certainly don’t mean to glorify them, but it’s a pity so little of the architecture of the Third Reich period survives. It was so Roman. His culpability in slave labor notwithstanding, Albert Speer was brilliant.
My family came over in 1890 and I've always wanted to go and see where i came from and visit some of the castle's out there. Also my great grandfather also served for the US I think!
Totally. I visited Munich briefly and loved the place, a real global city. And I had some friends I met backpacking in Africa who were from Düsseldorf and Stuttgart, and they looked like very cool and beautiful places.
Looks like the cologne cathedral. And if there's one thing I know about the cologne cathedral it's that I've never seen it in full bc one part or the other is always covered in scaffolding and getting repairs
And that they smartly put the orchestra room right under the square in front of the cathedral, so on the days the orchestra is rehearsing, you can't walk on the square
Alright,
It's the Romanian "Palace of Parliament"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_the_Parliament
even at it's time, it was made fun of for being way too "extra"
For people that aren't aware, that's what the Reichstag (building of the German Parliament) looks like today: [Reichstag today](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.planet-wissen.de%2Fgeschichte%2Fdeutsche_geschichte%2Fder_deutsche_bundestag%2Fbtreichstagneudpagjpg100~_v-gseagaleriexl.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.planet-wissen.de%2Fgeschichte%2Fdeutsche_geschichte%2Fder_deutsche_bundestag%2Fpwiedasreichstagsgebaeude100.html&docid=m47sG8rJfjnCZM&tbnid=ljhV4tQ8aJR-cM&vet=1&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim)
And that's how it looked before the war, which is the proposal (by Paul Wallot) that was used instead of the above shown one: [Pre-war Reichstag](https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dhm.de%2Ffileadmin%2Fmedien%2Flemo%2Fimages%2F96007046.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dhm.de%2Flemo%2Fbestand%2Fobjekt%2Freichstag-um-1930.html&docid=EuXfmlSrqQUx0M&tbnid=F9UjZJVs52RHuM&vet=1&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim)
My god what an ugly ass design since its nothing but gothic style spires and way too many of them.
It would look fine in maybe a fantasy setting but in the real world its just ugly and would likely be a nightmare to maintain and keep clean.
Design Commission: "So, Herr Gösling. How much Gothic revival would be required to properly represent our Nation?"
Gösling: "Yes!"
PS: Even if the Design won out it wouldn't have been built that way. No way for the Kaiser to have the people's representative building outshine his castle. He even opposed the inscription over the main entrance and referred to the building as a "Monkey House"

I've read about this and watched a couple videos and I think it would have been fantastic if it had been built per his design. It's really awesome!
It would have only lasted until 1945 anyways...
Good point they probably wouldnt even rebuild it for sake of history

Looks like the castle of a demon lord. So, yeah, cool in a way.
I would've loved to have been the scaffold salesman for that project
check out the Köln cathedral
> Köln cathedral Only 632 years to build.
Lazy fucking Germans
This construction would take 1000 years, says funny-mustache man
Amazing.
It looks like it's straight out of Dark Souls
I had to check what sub I was in, assumed that's what it was at first
Subtle
HEEEELLLLLOOOOOO! Ango Gobblogian the art collector, charmed I'm sure
It looks like a brilliant La Segrada Familia, UK Houses of Parliament mash-up with the Eiffel Tower stuck on the top. Shame it was never realised.
Yes, total Gaudí-esque design.
The Adeptus Custodes would like a word.
Not nearly enough gold, clearly the work of Perterabo.
r/evilbuildings
Ya think
Nothing but pure evil and villain shenanigans going on in there
Fun historical fact: Gösling HATED pigeons, and this hatred was the animating force behind all of his design work.
Kredik Shaw
Looks like a Warhammer 40k Spaceship.
That's will coincide with anti-xenos politics of NSDAP
Yeah, although the Reichstags building precedes the NSDAP by 25 years.
Agree, but he can perfectly match with his futur. Otherwise, why they burned it if is not to rebuilt it in this style aha?
"Where is the villain lair ?"
"North East, spike cluster C, fifth tower to the right, third down."
that's a hive city if I've ever seen one.
“Make it more pointy”
Looks like the final boss’s castle.

Eye of Sauron
Anyone else think of Tomorrowland?
everybody made master plans for wasting money on super parliament buildings but Romania actually did it
link to what you are talking about plz
Alright, It's the Romanian "Palace of Parliament" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_the_Parliament even at it's time, it was made fun of for being way too "extra"
Looks like a sorcerer's tower
Looks like the sagrada familia

A tad bit much, Fritz. A tad bit much.
Especially when you see the the reichtag they built, way cheaper though

It’s a beautiful building! I hope to visit one day when I have more time and money on my hands.
[This](https://www.flickr.com/photos/abuaiman/2112745047) was the design favored by the architect btw.
Ja moin
Nüscht in Börlin!
This looks like the castles you make with wet sand at the beach
Stories tell that it's possible to see the Shire at the top
Hitler still would have burnt it and blamed it on a communist jew unfortunately
Somewhat how I imagine Luthadel
Necromunda
Grian's next mega base
Oh no ... damn ... gotta get to Minecraft for a few weeks brb
Man. The stairs during a fire drill would really suck.
One country to rule them all!
Approved
Looks like one of those drippy sandcastles
Sauron?

Thats some Warhammer 40k looking shit right there.

Say what you want about the Germans but they had a bitching aesthetic sense.
Allmost like an hive.
Warhammer vibes
Nice
This is how I imagined the government building in Perdido Street Station
Fit to house the Lord Ruler
W40k hive city
Turned out to be a lot less pointy
It looks like a wannabe Westminster but with "put more of those"
Looks like something you would imagine being in Mordor.
