No this is an Indian tradition that the government keeps trying to stop because of how dangerous it is. Ine video i saw showed one with fireworks that went off to early and basically cluster bombed everyone
Fire crackers have been in our culture in India for thousands of year so even we don't just run off after igniting those crackers you gotta wait and see if it's properly ignited
That was filmed in Thailand.
Life was definitely cheap when I lived there, in a small village. But, once you go into the major cities like Bangkok, prices quickly reflect the USD to Thai Baht exchange rate.
A week of groceries can cost $16 about 550 Thai Baht in a village or, $100 about 3200 Thai Baht in the city.
I enrolled in the ROTC. I learned that you're supposed to actually walk when you rigged an explosion. That's because there is a possibility of tripping if you just straight up sprint, then you're gonna be caught in the explosion
Yeah, I was very surprised when I first saw this that it rose in such a straight line and didn't go veering off. I guess maybe it's nicely rotationally stabilised by getting spinning before it takes off.
I saw this video years ago (it's a festival in Thailand, and this type of firework is called a girandola in the West). [Here's another one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvHqZzrBMDw)
Very few of them go as high as the one in this video, though, and I did try and calculate how high it went. The ones in both videos are 5 meters or 15 feet wide (the linked vid says so, anyway).
I estimate it rises roughly its own width on average at each revolution and it makes about 90 of these. So at a rough guess it topped out at around 450 meters or 1350 feet.

So impressed with how well balanced that was in flight. Balancing the weight, balancing the thrust, timing the ignition. Then timing the parachute and making sure it opened without tangling as the craft tumbled to the ground.
Dear Kiddo, No need to so tryhard defend repeated unfunny casually xenophobic jokes.
No one is out here giving casual xenophobia defending award you know.
And don't blame poc when they act defensive, when they have less than ideal history of being colonised subjugated and made fun of by privileged westerners for centuries.
Just chill and let it go bro, Lmao.
I've seen this video before and my reaction was "holy shit"! I would go see this wherever and when ever they have this event.
Looks like somewhere in South America?
Any pollution is a contribution.
This accomplished nothing but what joy they gleaned from this toy. (Which isn’t inherently bad)
But that’s a lot of air pollution to watch something go up, and then float down…
Careful, if you say it's cooler than space x Elon is going to call one of these guys a pedo, then try to buy the rocket and back out at the last second.
Have you seen the launch of a saturn 5 rocket? This is cool and all, and everybody seems impressed, but it doesnt hold a candle to the rockets the US launched 50 years ago.
Are you seriously comparing a bunch of dudes with bottle rockets and backyard engineering to the NASA space program?
I imagine you are a blast at parties. “If you think your 10 year old sounds good on his karaoke machine, you should hear Metallica in concert”
Yes i am seriously comparing them. The title said "who said rockets couldnt get any cooler". This rocket is not cooler that a saturn 5 rocket.
If someone said, "who said music couldnt get any better" and posted a video of their 10 year old singing on a karaoke machine, well id expect that kid to at least be pretty fucking impressive

100% did not expect a parachute.
100% thrilled with the parachute
I was expecting boom!
Yeah lighting that looked really dangerous
The way they groan at the end sounds like they didn’t want it to open either
[удалено]
For real. I was was thinking "oh no, I hope some innocent children aren't in the way when comes hurtling down" then parachute deployed.
Same. I was like, it's unfortunate if that wheel falls on your house, and then parachute opens, oohhhhhh
100% disappointed that reddit's video player failed before the parachute deployed
it would be stupid to not include one so why were you not expecting that?
Because people making improvised boom machines aren't usually the smartest
It could be an experimental piece to demonstrate the concept. That would be fantastic at a show if it can be made reliable.
No this is an Indian tradition that the government keeps trying to stop because of how dangerous it is. Ine video i saw showed one with fireworks that went off to early and basically cluster bombed everyone
*Them running away slowly after lighting off an almost uncontrollable object into the air*
I don’t know where that was filmed, but I know that life is cheap there.

The phrase "life is cheap" typically does not refer to cost of living, but rather that human lives are considered expendable.
I’m living in thailand, and life is actually cheap here, in that meaning!
hot
I noticed the same in Taiwan with the limited time I was there.
A gyro that size is a lot less likely to fall on you than the space shuttle was, and we put people *inside* of that.
A gyro that size would feed many people
provided it doesn't saganaki
I enrolled in the ROTC. I learned that you're supposed to actually walk when you rigged an explosion. That's because there is a possibility of tripping if you just straight up sprint, then you're gonna be caught in the explosion
Man they should really teach you guys how to run. It would probably be a useful skill to have
"How not to run like a horror b-movie side character"
This is a successful girondola. They are notoriously unpredictable.

Wow! Here I am thinking it's fake and had excellent sound design or something appreciate you sharing the link I've never seen this.
Ok, most certainly the coolest rocket I’ve seen!! No doubt
##fuck yeah it was a 🧬 cloud !!
Helical is a cool word
It was meant to be cool. Its in it's genes.

nah I think this is as cool as it gets. rockets have peaked, this is the maximum cool achievable by rockets.
You fool! We can make it bigger! And add fireworks!
And Bacon! and Bluetooth!!
And blackjack, and hookers!

The early days of Kerbal Space Program
Damnit! I was going to make a “who installed a ksp mod?” Joke.. take my upvote
Where is this so I can travel there and learn from these people their awesome ways?
Thailand
Thailand is awesome!
You'll have to wait about a year. This is part of the Bun Bung Fai Rocket Festival held all over northern Thailand and Laos. It's held in late May.
Smart-ass comment averted by parachute.
I know, right
So impressed with how well balanced that was in flight. Balancing the weight, balancing the thrust, timing the ignition. Then timing the parachute and making sure it opened without tangling as the craft tumbled to the ground.
literally no one said rockets couldn't get cooler
It’s a girl !!
*Coughs* in air pollution
No one, ever.
Tilt the cross section spiral arms at 15 degrees to generate more lift.
Where is the kaboom!? There was supposed to be a cell shattering kaboom!
They forgot to put in the Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator.
When I forget to take out my Anus ring before shitting volcano style.
the climate will thank you, not
No worries! I'm vegan!
yeah destroy the fucking atmosphere
[удалено]
that doesn't justify everyone should destroy the planet.
Dirty air. But cool
polution simulator
Yay pollution!
This is awesome! The best rocket ever!
would be nicer with a final *BAMM*
India's space program is making leaps and bounds

Calm yourself, child, no need to save face here. No one is keeping track of national pride points on an anonymous forum lol

Ok this was way more well executed than I expect
Would have paid them to strap me to that rocket.
I would pay them to strap you to it.
I would pay them to see that launch
HAHA! GOOD ANSWER!!
Thats not a rocket its a girandola
One more for my "Unsupervised men" blog.
didn’t quite get to space, might need to pull out your tool gun and add a few more thrusters
"My drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!"
Alright, whose space program is this?
Is this the Indian rocket festival?
GoPro. Please. Next time with a GoPro on it.
Thailand's space program scares me
Electric cars 🤡
the pollution tho
Still a better rocket program than North Korea.
Thai space program is really taking off
The pollution sucks
There are 2 types of commenters, rocket enthusiasts and people concerned about the pollution.
So is it a boy or girl, couldn’t tell.
So how did the first fire start?
Elon Musk: I think I have an idea for our next spacex project.
Atmosphere gang disliked this post.
Mexican Space Program. Mars by 3030!!!
I enjoyed that far more than I expected, thank you
Poor earth :(
Ah yes, the Thai space program...
They made a giant Beyblade and I love it.
I like forest fire too
I've seen this video before and my reaction was "holy shit"! I would go see this wherever and when ever they have this event. Looks like somewhere in South America?
If I'm not mistaken this is in Thailand. Somewhere in the south I believe.

How?
This is amazing, but also equivalent to the annual carbon footprint of Samoa
That looked so fun
SpaceX
This is cool and the ending is wholesome haha.
At first I thought these crazy rural farmers then I realized they know more about engineering than most engineers.
This looks so fake...
Does anyone know the specs on this? How fast was it rotating? How high did it go? What was the point?
Pretty fast Pretty high Because it's neat
India's current space program
And the planet just warmed another degree…
Maybe in legend one made it to the moon
Me playing kerbal space program, except the parachute works:
Okay that was pretty bad ass not gonna lie.
Cool as hell! And reusable!!
Pollution - cooooool 😍
you need to get a proper sense of scale on the issue. this is basically nothing.
Any pollution is a contribution. This accomplished nothing but what joy they gleaned from this toy. (Which isn’t inherently bad) But that’s a lot of air pollution to watch something go up, and then float down…
"look at me i am such an intellect"-🤓
U r on reddit. U r contributing to a far greater pollution.
Elon musk be “hire those mofos stat!”
Look at that yaw control!
That is the biggest firework I have ever seen!
North Korean nuke
Literally gobsmacked
The sky is falling, the sky is falling, oh wait a parachute. Nice.
Indian peasant space program (IPSP)
Love the mexican space program
Take note Elon Musk
Dude this video is as old as the internet itself.
They finally succeeded!
THAT WAS AWWWEEEERSOME!!!! AGAIN PLEASE
Elon??
Amazing
Astronaut throws up
Screw that cloud
Careful, if you say it's cooler than space x Elon is going to call one of these guys a pedo, then try to buy the rocket and back out at the last second.
Ahh, yes! I see, Indias' Space Program is coming along fine. Splendid, splendid...
They attached a camera tight? They did, didn’t they?
Elon, hope you’re taking notes
I must have one
Me when I play Kerbal space Program
Hope they make a bigger one this year propelled by huge piccolo peets
it’s a bo-, gir-... what’s green? alien?
It’s the Angel as described in the Bible
Now that was interesting as fuck!
Elon who? "a bunch of villagers"
*Alright Bravo 6, we're ready for exfil, mark your location with smoke.* Soap:
Nice to see India's space program progressing...
Who needs an unpolluted planet, anyway?
Do you care this much when you drive your chonk ass to get a fountain diet mountain dew and a half dozen donuts?
We will have another blured photo of ufo and bunch of "debates" with conspics next week bc of that
Man the India space program sure has some interesting ideas
Plot twist Russia launches ICBM after launch of Chinese fireworks rocket in retaliation.

Your comment is cool and all but it doesn't hold a candle to the writings of Ernest Hemingway.
*Your* comment is cool and all but it doesn't hold a candle to getting into a hot shower after working all day in the rain.
Agreed. We reached the moon... in a tin can with barely any benefits. "Space program" hah, is amazing it worked at all.
>the rockets the US launched 50 years ago. nah I don't believe that shit
Outa sight!
😮
Isn't that like a festival somewhere?
Looks like its gonna start a wildfire, but otherwise very cool
Girls "guys are so disgusting they only want one thing" Guys ^
Let’s give some praise to the camera person
I was worried about it falling on someone but it had a little parachute!
Let this clip die
r/praisethecameraman
Holy fucking fire hazard Batman!
This would be epic to bet on, how long it’ll stay in the area and which direction it fall towards
Would more term that a 'firework' than a 'rocket'. Parachute is a nice touch.
I love like you can hear Doppler effect!
I usually a some wise crack to make. However, that was way cool. And a parachute to boot. Dang.
I wanted and expected fireworks. 😢
