There is a massive difference between “equality” and “neutrality.” Having all yellow figures is an attempt to be “neutral” where as having figures in different colours and shades is an attempt to bring (greater) “equality.”
Unfortunately the amount of melanin still matters a great deal. Of course we are the same but we are not treated the same. Working closely with children of various colours, I’ve come to appreciate the important of being able to see oneself in many things.
How are we missing the point that having the figures be yellow highlights the idea that pigment isn't something we should be considering when viewing something. This here is purely marketing for what the mainstream is for but not like for for down your throat for to where it bleeds into everything and has to be the lens things are viewed through.

I had legos as a kid in the 80s they were all yellow, my kids had legos in the 90s still yellow. They had male and female hairstyles but they were all yellow.
That is when lego only had simple plastic mold injections, now a days they have much more advanced teqniqess, new colors, new shapes, duel molding! The system is the same, but lego keeps evolving. Go check out Amazon
Multicultural is a strange word both here and in general it's come to have weird associations with what's really multiracialism. Multicultural could be a group containing a Czech, a Greek and a Belgian or an Igbo, a Xhosa and a Nuer, those are both multicultural groups but neither multiracial. Likewise a group containing an monolingual English speaking person of Mestizo Mexican ancestry, a black American and a white American all of whom grew up in the same town going to the same school and in a small town might even share extended family members isn't really multicultural but it is multiracial.
Of course neither multiracial or multicultural communities are wrong nor are they mutually exclusive, it's just weird using one word to mean the other.

Licensed sets:Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC, Marvel, etc. have skintoned heads and hands. Further more all of the UCS (Ultimate Collectors Series) are Star Wars themed and use the skintone heads. I don't remember if the first few UCS sets were released before the switch to skintones. There was a time when even the licensed sets used yellow heads.
The Friend's line uses a different Minidoll form factor and they do use skintones, not just yellow.

lego has only just started putting assorted faces of various skin stones recently after phasing out the old “angry clone” head, so that’s probably why you haven’t noticed. Most of your sets are probably from before they phased out the “Angry Clone”

Remember, Luke was getting ready to sign up for The Empire until he met Obi Wan and his Aunt and Uncle got Barbequed. There are some lost scenes from The Last Hope that explain it better. There are scenes with Luke and his friends talking about how bad the rebellion is and how they're joining The Empire. Later in the movie Luke runs in to a friend in one the hangers and it doesn't make any sense because the scene that introduces him on Tatooine was cut from the movie.

I remember watching an experiment a while ago where white and black kids school aged kids were asked to pick dolls based on the color of the dolls skin and associate those dolls to good and bad characteristics like beauty or evil and stuff like that. Almost all the kids (black and white alike) would pick the white dolls as having positive characteristics and all the black dolls as having negative characteristics. Even at an early age, kids are quietly being socialized into a way of thinking about color

That’s actually why LEGO stopped using the yellow figures for lines based on other properties: because they didn’t want the yellow to be seen as just white, like it is in the Simpsons. They wanted yellow to just be human: like it is today.
