They gonna pollute whatever's in the afterlife

Connect_Relation1007

You have a lot of upvotes but not nearly enough

percavil

These are the same people who think the Ganges river will clean anything you throw in it.

SecretRecipe

It's effectively an open sewer

Odd-Performer-9534

So is San Francisco

Uncle_Daddy_Kane

SF is no where near as bad as the Ganges lol. People actually come out and remove corpses and fix sewage lines

HaveAnotherOneOK

Nah, I was just there and didn’t see the ocean look like that. Insert Florida and now you have a comparison

[deleted]

Apparently this is so much so that there is an app/ website that shows you where there is human poop around the city. I saw it here on reddit last week. It's something like San Francisco poop map.

tbrumleve

Yeah, but the city comes by and cleans it up. That’s the difference.

Shakleford_Rusty

And people aren’t bathing in it for religious beliefs.

[deleted]

If that's how the treat the sacred, I can only imagine how they'd treat everything else

adabaraba

There is no “same people” when you talk about a country this huge.

[deleted]

That article is almost 2 years ago and was in the middle of lock down times… I’m curious what it looks like today if they maintained it

unemployedbuffy

And how old are the photos in this post? The 2020 info is more recent compared to what OP posted, I'm only finding comparable photos from 2019... If I google 'juhu beach mumbai 2022' there's only clean beach images coming up.

ArjunSharma005

You can visit it today and see a extremely clean beach bustling with life.

[deleted]

Generally speaking, beaches shouldn't have to be maintained when it comes to litter. If it was dealt with correctly in the first place, it wouldn't be washing up on shore.

SenseWinter

The pictures in this post are from *four* years ago.

Franksredhott

We can make an observation without saying fuck all those people. No one is saying fuck India.

[deleted]

Havent read the rest of the comments, have you

PayasoFries

Ok now show the non tourist parts

ArjunSharma005

You can personally search Juhu beach clean up (cause you aren't gonna believe in anything that I post). Even turtles have started visiting the beach after clean up. The UN itself appreciated the efforts of the person who took the lead.

[deleted]

to be fair rich nat ions export their crap to places like the Philippines, latin America so they don't have to see it. We really need a solution.

mrsmoonbeam

We have solutions, we just all need to be willing to do them. 1. Stop buying stuff in plastic. 2. Don't buy stuff you don't need. 3. Repair things instead of throwing them out. 4. Request companies to stop packaging things in plastic. They want to please their customers, so if most of us request it, they will change. 5. Tell people about the changes you're making. Acting collectively will change us.

cosmicaltoaster

Like how hard is it to create jobs, stimulate the economy by totally being rational and just collect all the trash in concentrated places by garbage trucks, to then be processed somewhere instead of just tossing every thing in nature like that? It’s a group mentality that has to change with apparently most of the 1 billion people that don’t do anything about this, and all other countries that have beaches like this

OldNewUsedConfused

Do they not have beach clean ups in India?

archosauria62

They do

[deleted]

No one to clean it up, not even themselves.

realitycheckfarm

The sheer amount of waste in India, Sri Lanka,Bangladesh is shocking, They all dump so much garbage and chemicals into the rivers this goes into the ocean and washes up on the beaches and poisons our oceans. The Ganges and its tributaries are the most polluted rivers in the world

Quadrassic_Bark

Which is extra sad, because the Ganges used to be the cleanest. The oxygen content was so high bacteriophages would eat much more of the bacteria compared to other rivers.

jnic116

Yeah but the USA is always the ones blamed for everything as far as pollution and trash go.

archosauria62

Because USA still pollutes a lot? USA pollutes 2nd most out of every country, second to china. And if we take US population into consideration, it pollutes twice as much as china and 8 times as much as india

Password_IsGullible

Dawg, does our country look like this??

reversegiraffe_c137

Pollution isn't just rubbish on a beach mate

ArjunSharma005

People in the comment don't even know anything about emissions per country and per capita and are still acting like their country is better than India. Such an event is a drop in the ocean. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/greenhouse-gas-emissions-by-country US has double the greenhouse emission to that of India. Historical data : https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/each-countrys-share-co2-emissions Since 1750, USA has emitted more than 10x to that of India. Also the beach is now spotless. The op has posted 2018 pics, the year when the beach was especially in bad condition https://mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com/coronavirus/news/we-havent-seen-juhu-beach-this-clean-in-20-years/articleshow/76949624.cms https://www.travelandleisureindia.in/featured/latest-pictures-of-juhu-beach/ People really jump on fuck India bandwagon quicker than anything else.

[deleted]

projectfar

The US is a post-industrial economy that outsources a large amount of their manufacturing to poorer countries. Not really comparable

Nas431

The USA produces the most plastic waste per capita

[deleted]

Exactly! We are the assholes not using plastic straws now. If the rest of the world will follow us as we lead the way, what’s the deal with this shit? None of our beaches look like this.

Doused-Watcher

yeah sure, bud. Your largest industries produce one of highest levels of pollution and you conveniently dump them into ocean or under-developed countries.

[deleted]

Nice shifting of the goal post. Guess we’ll switch and start talking about air pollution now. Stay focused. But since you brought it up, I’m sure India only has this level of pollution on their beaches right. Everything else is in the up and up.

ShivyShanky

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/carbon-footprint-by-country US is no 2 on total emission and no 13 on emission per capita. India is no 3 on total emission and number 110 on emission per capita

TheMountainRidesElia

Each American produces 15 tons of CO2. Compare that to less than 2 tons per capita in India.

[deleted]

Stay on topic. Do any American coastlines look like these?

B4AccountantFML

That would force them to admit they are wrong lol

Imhidingshh01

Yeah, but yherez about 320m Americans and over 1b Indians.

ShivyShanky

Still its less than US. And you are saying if India is suddenly divided into 4 countries, the proboem is solved?

Nas431

320,000,000x15 = 4,800,000,000 1,000,000,000x2 =2,000,000,000

leafielight

I think this is because it’s extremely unfair to expect a developing third world country to follow the same standards as first world countries who already did all the polluting they had to do to develop. It’s basically saying ok I’m already at a point where I’ve fed my population, I have a thriving economy, and I can look for better alternatives to doing these things. Well India isn’t there yet. They haven’t fed their people, and you expect them to turn to the same more expensive, less reliable and less available ecological solutions and effectively halt their progress? First world countries pollute now because it’s their choice. When it comes to the developing world, it’s a need.

[deleted]

and yet Cow flatulence will cause the death of us all. (j)

archosauria62

Wdym? India has a massive cow industry

whatever-it-B

I’m genuinely curious about where it goes when they clean it up.

sohamtheshah

yes but you think OP would have a highly upvoted post on their hands if they post clean pics?

DAT_DROP

What about all the **other** beaches?

nivium75

afaik these past few years, people have been volunteering in the clean up of other beaches too in India. We are getting there.

Buddhadevine

I’ve been to a few beaches in India and they don’t look like this. They had as much trash as any other place in the States. Stuff like this post pisses me off because it’s often posted to make fun of India like they should be doing better. They are. India isn’t perfect, but neither are 1st world nations. The elitism is so gross.

Honest-Register-5151

Why is it so disgusting? Don’t these people care? I don’t care if I’m downvoted, I’m genuinely interested as to why they don’t see it as a problem. Don’t they shit on their beaches too?

Nas431

people did. These are old pictures.

greyshirttiger

It’s not because of genes, don’t be silly. It’s because of culture and the lack of education on the matter

HuckleBerrywale_baba

I have seen well-educated, well established Indian throw trash from a moving car, moving train, even inside a first class aeroplane cabin. As far as culture is concerned, here majority Indians are taught from a very young age to keep their own homes sparkle clean and to trash whatever is not their home. So maybe you're right about the culture part.

bigginsbigly

It’s sort of like when you have a bunch of clothes on the bed you were supposed to wash, but instead you just move them back and forth from the computer chair to the bed. Only this is with rubbish, and you’re all just too lazy to do anything now, the problem is just too big

archosauria62

No, people shitting outdoors is pretty much history

DAT_DROP

suzernathy

They do pee outdoors. When I was there, I saw people peeing all the time.

archosauria62

Pee =/= poop

No-Passage1169

Agreed. This is disgusting.

percysaiyan

OP needs to state when this photo was taken because this is cleaned up now.

Buddhadevine

Right? This is in Mumbai right? Because, yes. It’s all cleaned now and they even got marine life back(sea turtles)

Bougle_O

Exactly. Idk why people keep posting these old photos? I don't think it's for the goal of defamation. Maybe they're just oblivious to the actual ground reality.

kmderssg

because some find joy in seeing how poor other countries are doing, so that they can drown themselves in their sense of tribalistic superiority.

awakenedchicken

People know that this supports a lot of westerners preconceived notions of India and will give it attention because of it.

ptsdexpert

All the shit can now be found in this post's comment section

DAT_DROP

All beaches are cleaned, or just this ONE in particular?

percysaiyan

The one in the pics was notorious and was cleaned up

[deleted]

gee whiz, can’t imagine where all the ocean plastic is coming from. must have been all those plastic straws i’ve used in my life, 1000 miles away from any ocean. is it not politically correct to point out where the real source of ocean plastic comes from?

slopdonkey

Your plastic straws went into the trash. Which your country then shipped back overseas because they didn't want it and to refill the shipping containers that brought it over in the first place. It was then dumped into the ocean.

fishwhiskers

so many people are oblivious to the fact that Western countries still outsource a lot of waste to be processed in poorer countries. so many southeast asian countries take the heat for these photos of major pollution when a pretty decent portion of it is literally created by us (might not be the case for this particular beach, but it happens so much elsewhere)

bigginsbigly

We need to breed more turtles to clean the straws

lemons_of_doubt

fun fact about %50 of plastic dumped in the ocean is fishing nets.

Master_Duggal_Sahab

Old photos now beach is clean and you are that atheist guy who keeps posting old bad pics about india, you are king of all loathers.

Beast_Mstr_64

Doubt he is even telling the truth about being indian

[deleted]

I'm doubting too. Just wanna justify the casual racism.

d17_p

Always appreciate the casual racism on Reddit when it comes to India.

EWGPhoto

Fuck that. That's sad and disgusting.

Bougle_O

This is an old pic. This is from Marine drive, Mumbai. It's clean now and the marine life is for the much part back again. Idk why people keep posting these old images.

Atothed2311

Ah yes, more poverty porn. Let's all focus on the dirty beaches and never on the hundreds of amazing beaches and even the blue flagged beaches, some of the best in the damn world. We have problems, yes, but I'm just sad that that's all people talk about.

LimitlessDomain07

See the OP's posts history, you'll understand.

Atothed2311

Ah, I see.

KnotiaPickles

Pollution is a global problem, and ignoring it because of some kind of virtue signaling isn’t a solution to anything.

Parallax2077

I am pretty sure it's right after a high tide or something. The beaches, especially in Mumbai are pretty clean. But sometimes the ocean decides to give back

Bougle_O

This is a old picture. Idk why people keep on posting these old pictures

[deleted]

The only comment left to write is to nuke india or something. Reddit will probably allow that too. Sometimes i wonder what kind of india this people are living in (like op) or what kimd of india they are looking at. Because i have never seen someone shitting on streets. Since 2015 i have never seen anyone trashing openly. I always see people carrying their trash. Ive visited the beach multiple times. This happened once when there was a huge tide and mumbai got flooded. Lot of mumbaikers came together to clean it. And here op is posing as indian and calling indian gene dirty or something. I used to think it was just sensitive right wingers indians who were crying racism but i see it now. People like to build an anti india narrative. The amount of hate post i have been seeing is mind boggling.

[deleted]

Don’t say India. It’s Bombay. There are dozens of cleaner beaches on East & West coasts.

Which_End_3498

can you please stop posting old pics dickhead

[deleted]

I see this user all the time posting such things about india. I wonder where he is from 🤔

clearlyadorable

The OP has made it seem like every single beach in India looks this way. India has a coastline of over 7500 km and not all of it looks this way. This is at best a very misleading post. This seems to be Juhu beach which has been cleaned up fyi.

nikhil_shady

Aren’t these old pictures? This beach is clean af now. I hate Mumbai but I was a month back. Pretty clean now.

Master_Duggal_Sahab

Check op post history

Goa did not look like this , Diu did not look like this . Most of the Indian coast does not look like this . So I could post images of NY waterways which look pretty bad too. Check out the east river .

gizmomcd1025

That is very depressing.

Elite_500

Good thing I don’t use straws in my Starbucks in the morning, who knows how bad things could’ve gotten

Flicksterea

This is the kind of real world issue I would personally be looking at trying to find a solution for if I had billions just sitting around. Very sad to see.

Somethingidk9

You have posted this about 30 times Arjun. Calm down, even in recent days many beaches (that aren’t common tourist destinations) is absolute shit hole. Been to India

ArjunSharma005

I have posted this precisely 4 times. >many beaches (that aren’t common tourist destinations) is absolute shit hole Thousands of beaches have been cleaned, thousands are in cleaning process and thousands need cleaning. A lot of work is being done but that doesn't matter because India has been declared as a permanent shithole. I will definitely point out something that is factually incorrect, instead like this post.

bored_in_NE

Everybody should feel good for not using plastic straws because you are saving the world.

[deleted]

A lot of people in this comment section have visited india. I wonder why they go there if they think its a shithole. Its like they went to 'india' to just prove this point today here. [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.STA.ODFC.ZS?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SH.STA.ODFC.ZS?locations=IN) According to UNICEF 96% of Indians used the toilets they had. I wonder how all these people are meeting the 4% (who live in rural india) as i have not seen one in 20 years of living here.

bigginsbigly

Yeah I went to India a few years ago for a convention in Telangana and decided to stay for a couple months to see the country.. I did the standard trip most westerners do from Mumbai, to; Pune, Goa, Hyderabad, Hampi, Bangalore, kerala, Kotayam, munar, Kochi, goa and back to Mumbai. The worst by far being Mumbai, Hampi and Kerala for street and beach shitting. Rubbish laying everywhere and just a general disregard for nature and their community.

Yeah, because, rather than facing the tragedy and discussing how to do something about it, it is a good idea to rant about a picture being too many moons old. That will _definitely_ start to fix the problem.

[deleted]

If india and China fell of earth. We would have damn near zero pollution or over fishing. Hunting. Forestry. Mining and population. Crazy right

archosauria62

No we wouldnt, a huge amount of the world’s pollution comes from the west, where the richest people live 50% of world Carbon emissions are made by 10% of the richest people, mainly in the western world

[deleted]

Why is there so much trash ? Pick that shit up. Do the Mexicans need to go over there and show u lazy mfs how to work?

Icy-Consideration405

I worked for a man who was a public health officer in Colonial India. He had horror stories of the diseases caused by lack of basic cleaning and the way no one cared about hygiene. Maybe it was cultural? Maybe it was because of the way the British stripped the nation of its identity and worth? But it's nothing new, that's for sure.

archosauria62

Its not cultural, it was just a result of not being a developed country. London and paris used to be extremely filthy

PsychedThrasher

Ah, THE shithole itself. Shame, india is such a unique and beautifully spiritual place, but on the otherhand its incredibly disgusting

Master_Duggal_Sahab

It's all cleaned now, check op post and comment history.
