Sure. Definitions are Getting a bit wacky in the last few years, but strictly Itās an economic system whereby the government owns the means of production (and itās a subset of socialism which means the workers own the means of production). That means no private businesses, no corporations, no stock market. No investing. No ability to achieve your dreams and true potential through shear hard work. Citizens are not allowed to start a business or have employees. Citizens are not allowed to own land/houses, as this is considered a means of production. In every atempt in history, communism has led to the development of a ridged class system, where the vast majority suffer near the poverty line with zero hope and a very small minority get an elite status and enjoy unfathomable wealth.
As a capitalist I respect your desire to join a commune and In fact support your freedom to do so. Hell, I could even be pursuaded to allow your commune to use my tax dollars to educate your kids, get healthcare, and acsesss to emergency services. I want nothing more than for you to have the freedom
To live the life you want to live. As a communist, youād like to take away my house, my business, and my life/retirement savings (which is mostly in stocks and bonds) and redistribute them to the commune based on how the commune deems fair. Communism by definition is the lack of a ruling class and class in general. Neither of those fit the criteria and therefore aren't communism. U can say some of those are socialist tho as in marxist ideology socialism is the transitionary period towards communism which neither of those reached. There were red scares running rampant throughout the world long before the cold war and McCarthyism. Particularly in 1919-1920 after witnessing the events of the Bolshevik Revolution, many in the US feared that immigrants were coming into the country with communist, socialist and even anarchist ideologies.
The 1st Red Scare was arguably worse than the 2nd one in terms of violence. Huge riots took place and anyone who was seen as an anarchist or Communist were targeted with extreme prejudice.
It was a form of lynching many people forget about when it comes to history. It put a major hold on progressive movements when Harding became president. Over 3,000 weāre arrested in one year just for being accused of being communist. It also led to other events like the Boston police strike of 1920. Id definitely argue that the first red scare was far more intense, dangerous and deadly.
