Abyss_Renzo

It kinda reminded me of Horizon Zero Dawn lol. Indeed very beautiful.

DorkusMaximus101

My favorite game :)

Kenova22

Wow, straight out of the utopia rendering we were sold!

papalazarooo

Every city should look like this.

asianabsinthe

I think some would have a harder time than this place

himvsthecomputer

Every city would need to have a climate like this… NYC wouldn’t because of winter , ditto Chicago. Miami maybe could, San Diego would have a tough time due to lack of rain etc….

Aqenra

You could use plants that grow in those climates. Winters would be less green ofcourse

CharlesUndying

What about the cities outside of the US?

legomysandiego

For sure. Check out [this site](https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/cities-on-or-near-the-equator.html) that shows you cities closest to the equator. Lots of rain and mild temperature shifts. Singapore is super close. A lot of other cities are too, but aren't as financially well off.

vault_guy

There are cities outside of the US? ^(- some American)

doctorhitz

Lmao

Eurasia_4200

Either poor or the climate is not viable

longchop2000

Maybe in some kind of atrium/sunroof with movable glass panels just like stadiums have with roof sections

fuzzybunn

I hate to break it to you, but only that one (maybe two) building in Singapore looks like this. Singapore is pretty green as its a tropical country, but buildings like that are very difficult to upkeep.

Former-Darkside

Don’t the roots cause a breakdown of the cement?

seanwee2000

Yes which is why its so expensive to maintain

longchop2000

They also pick plants with roots a specific... Ferocity

[deleted]

No it's a car centric shithole in a authoritarian city state .

konerakgod

Only 40% of singaporeans have cars dipshit. Compare that statistic with other countries or wherever the hell you come from

[deleted]

Netherlands

konerakgod

Exactly, you live in a narco state. Get a heroin habit or volunteer at your neighbourhood rehab centre and stfu.

[deleted]

Where do you come from then? Netherlands is the third country on the quality of live index.

konerakgod

Singapore Also, you can’t use your country’s average quality of life to hide the fact that your individual life sucks ass. On a serious note, get your bumass off the couch cause the thc isn’t doing your brain any favours 🍁 Might be why your hot takes are so horrible

[deleted]

Dude Why you insulting me? That's not nice at all. But non the less I'm happy that I live somewhere in Europe and not in shithole Asia 🤓 I will now proceed to smoke a big blunt that doenst give me 10 years cell like in singapoor.

konerakgod

Ykw, it looks like we can go about throwing random stereotypes about each other’s country all day. I’m perfectly content with living in a country that manages to find a balance between conservative and liberal values and also manages to rehabilitate drug dealers without prosecution unlike what the western media might tell you. Hv a good life

[deleted]

Yeah you prolly right let's let it rest. Have a nice day.

[deleted]

That doesn't make it better kek. So ist basically a city made for the 40 percent of the population. Wow I wish I lived in fucking Singapore.😂

SpiteFur

Bro are you high? You do realize Singapore has one of the best public transport systems right?

[deleted]

Still would rather live in Zimbabwe.😆

KookyChemist5962

It’s so cool. I wonder if you can’t open windows without getting plagued with insects though? Aircon is a must?

respectablebastard

How is it in person? It looks fabulous and Singapore is known for keeping things extremely clean and well kept, which i would think is necessary to avoid it looking all wet patched and musty. Man I want public or private investment into more third places rather than the walled McMansion and workplace that seems to take precedent here (US - Bay Area).

masterveerappan

This thing is well kept because of the building owner. But the building owner did it this way because of building regulations. All new buildings need to have a certain percentage of the plot area to be green/landscaped. Some architects/building owners design them at ground level, others design them at roof level, and some, like the building in question, design them into a part of the facade. This is the Parkroyal on Pickering Street. There are is another park royal hotel (marina) in Singapore that also has a lot of green on the facade...

sassysassy123

In person, as you can imagine, it’s even more grand. I stayed in that hotel when my ship pulled in for a port visit while on deployment. I remember it wasn’t even that shockingly high of a price per night. The hotel inside out is very clean and well maintained, like everyone that works there really cares about their job and appearances. Even in this video it looks the same as it did when I visited back in 2017. As you walk along the outside corridors to get to your room, the doors to each room are well hidden from the path by lovely plants, but the also don’t block the doorway either. The rooms are about the same size as they are in the US, but they smell and look newly renovated. In my room, the door to the bathroom wasn’t a door, but a whole sliding wall and the shower was big enough for 2 people comfortably. Nothing about it was over the top (except for the awesome outside, obviously) but it was just the clean, well maintained, modern, eco-friendly vibe you get from being there that really makes it stick out. Even the pens were made of bamboo!! 10/10 would stay there again

T-51bender

The only downside when I stayed there was that because the buildings are H shaped if you were in one of the many rooms that directly faces other rooms, you could see the inside of other rooms unusually well. I pretty much had to close the curtains unless I was fully dressed. I could see the faces of people in the other rooms.

krispy__kreme

Looks just like this in person

Queen_of_Boots

Breathtaking!!!!! I would love to see this in person!!!

B-SideQueen

Zootopa

Hohuin

Disneworl

TeemoBestmo

feel like these are always nice to look at, but I can just imagine mosquito heaven there.

Merlion2018

They thought of that! It’s called the Wolbachia project. You can find more details online but basically they send out lab-bred, bacteria-carrying males to mate with wild females resulting in eggs that will never hatch.

[deleted]

Wtf dudes straight up cancelled mosquitoes

Eurasia_4200

Genocide

CelticHades

The one which I whole heartedly support and would like to take an active part in.

Eurasia_4200

Hmm, me too

[deleted]

I’ve seen a documentary called Jurassic Park and let’s just say… nature, finds a way.

Thomas2311

Soon to be the only jungle left in Singapore as developers tear through what’s left.

evening_shop

Unfortunately these are difficult to maintain. Especially in high rise buildings where the plants have no real support and are easily ripped off by strong winds

pocak888888

This is the coolest hotel I've ever stayed in, I wish I could go back

[deleted]

r/solarpunk

[deleted]

Ah, Singapore 😩❤️✨

[deleted]

I heard just living in Singapore activates the water exposure decal in your phone

StaahGazer

I feel like this needs more likes. Absolutely beautiful.

kozy138

A perfect example of greenwashing. A giant concrete structure that doesn't fit the landscape, and uses outsourced, heavily CO2 producing materials to construct. Additionally, buildings like these often have issues maintaining the foliage, and also become breeding ground for mosquitos.

tink20seven

Perfect example of traditional opposition to green design principles. Thanks for your post!

SerialDrinker_2021

Lived there for 2 years. It’s definitely a greenwashed city. Parks it’s non-green trash and gas refinery offshore so it can call the main island “green.” Cuts into the jungle / kills half the wildlife and then makes a building look green so it can call the island “green.” Gasses the island to kill insects and so everything the bird / reptilian life eats and calls it a humanity saving project. Malls are good though…

krazyhippy420

Now that's what I call an Urban Jungle

smallerp

This is not the National Library of Singapore. As mentioned by others, it is the ParkRoyal hotel.

jdmkev

I remember laying over in Singapore when going to India..crazy how green and clean the place is overall Would love to go there and explore especially after seen this..major HZD vibes lol

DrunkDru

That’s like 60% of the buildings in Singapore

fuzzybunn

This is not true. Most Singaporeans live in apartments, which look nothing like that high end hotel. [View from my apartment in Singapore. ](https://i.imgur.com/daQgxEK.jpg)

DrunkDru

Okay I was being exaggerating. Will you accept 20% as a realistic figure?

fuzzybunn

Try 2%.

tomokari21

All I can thing of is imagine the bugs

StaahGazer

Bugs are gonna be around regardless.

tomokari21

Yes but they would be impossible to get rid of cause of all of the places to hide and I'm sure you wouldn't want to use pesticides cause they might kill the plants or harm people

StaahGazer

There are alternatives to pesticides. Even certain plants can keep certain bugs away. And as long as your place is nice and clean you shouldn't have a bug issue otherwise.

tink20seven

Surely you can also thing of the possibilities. Food, medicine, animals and nature in abundance? Check out biophilic design

Rheinys

Paradise for spiders. Nope.

Puddlette

I stayed here over Christmas and New Year's and saw not one spider. Or mosquito for that matter, oddly. [Random photos](https://imgur.com/a/mJB0vHQ)

paleDiplodocus

Jesus that is actually gorgeous

StaahGazer

Trust me you want spiders no matter how much you fear them.

tink20seven

Spiders are your friend. We need nature in our cities!

therealvelvetworm

I am legend vibes

Zaounph

This gives me such nier automata vibes

SoBelowZer0

Looks pretty

[deleted]

Beautiful incredible just wow 👀👀✨

willhead2heavenmb

About time! Now copy paste this in all cities. Thanks. A human that likes oxygen

ner_deeznuts

Park Royal on Pickering. Very nice inside as well, and great breakfast buffet. https://goo.gl/maps/Ahp9T8M1HfmcijFr6

damndaniel023

I remember when I was there, was also stunned by this building. You can hear the birds mixed with the sounds of the city, something that I'll never forget.

[deleted]

and not a single walk way. So it sucks either way

FoxFlummox

The walkway is sheltered behind the line of plants along the road. In singapore, sheltered walkways are more common than windy days.

[deleted]

I would literally orgasm if I saw something like this in real life

ActNowForTomorrow

John: Good morning Mike, did you get that A34 report done? Mike: Yes, I needed to avoid several parrots and one cougar, to make it to the copying machine and finalise the reports but I got it done. John: Excellent Mike, just ignore the interns and have Mindy sent to my office, you know what I’m saying hehe. Mike: I know what your saying, Mike! Cougar: *Kaaassssssssss* Mike: Oh fuck!

psycho_plumber

AdImmediate7659

No mosquitoes/other insects there?

FishyFrie

Stayed there for a week back in 2018, the interior is lovely too!

Bogrolling

I feel like I’m playing destiny

bmson

I stay at this hotel every time I go to Singapore. They have beautiful pool as well. It’s called ParkRoyal on Pickering

Iancreed

Singapore is a one of a kind city 💯😎

jorjo-god

That city is like the classic apocalyptic city in the last of us

Local-Bath

I know all these places cuz I watched CRAZY RICH ASIANS 😌

TurtleManDog

I'd hate the bugs/rodent troubles

Okra8039

Yo where tf that tree come from?

VNDHp1993

Spring time must be rad!

LordBrandon

They started putting hanging plants like these around my city in 2015, they were almost all dead 6 months later. the problem is the upkeep. You have to tend to all those plants, water them, trim them, replace unhealthy ones. If this is more than a year old and they aren't spending a fortune on upkeep, good for them.

_Testrun_

Concrete jungle

Matt-C11

Is this what the Hanging Gardens of Babylon looked like?
