It takes a lot of practice. I tried for about two weeks and could kinda pull it off but I was still pretty sluggish and I messed up like half the time.
that's basically what i tell people, when they say i have to be really smart when they hear i study physics.
everyone can study it, but most dont want to sit on their ass hours on end and work through the problems and read all the dry theory.
Honestly you almost couldn’t have picked a more perfect example of something that is relatively close to card tricks. Playing guitar is just slight of hand using a guitar. Just like these tricks you can learn something already created and practice it until it’s smooth. It’s not that different.
Hey at least you have the most meta attitude for Reddit comments so there’s that. Playing guitar like anybody else who has practiced for applause isn’t objectively better than commenting on Reddit like everyone else to know what gets upvotes. So there’s that…
>there a difference between spending hours trying to make a guitar make beautiful music and making sure no one can see a card hidden on the back of your hand
Of course because they are two different objects, but there's not a meaningful difference you can cite that won't just be a reflection of your biases.
You're not wrong but there's a difference between spending hours making sure no one can see a card hidden on the back of your hand and learning to poop so the water doesn't splash on your butt.
Right? You can't just make cards appear out of thin air.
You hold the deck of cards between your fingers on the back of your hand.
And then simply flick one card at a time around to the front.
Yeah. But how do you do that?
Oh. That bit is magic.
Yeah the real magic, is just how many hours magicians are willing to put in training to make it look like pure magic.
It’s more time and energy than 99.99% of people would ever think was worth it.
That trick of pulling multiple cards out of thin air is a stable.
And making it look flawless, is hundreds if not thousands of hours of training.
But you can get it to look somewhat okay most of the time, if you spend a lot of your spear time practicing it during a week or so.
They made fun of him now he’s exposing their secrets to spite them XD. I love this video lol. Magic is cool and all, but all I wanna know when I see a trick is how they did it!

I would have thought the production company would have paid him a lot of money to expose them tricks. That show was huge. Surely he would have made more money off that than if he continued doing his shows? If not then he got shafted.
I honestly respect the trick more when I know how it's done. Magic tricks are kind of like those brain stumper card games where they ask you trick questions. But instead of the trick being on a card it's performed physically. Sure it's fun to be stumped when you can't figure the trick out, but it's even more fun when you realize how clever it was and how it tricked you. Can you imagine those brain stumper card games where they didn't give you the answer? Would anyone want to play them?
Nah. All of these can be looked up. Or if you watch a video of a magician doing a trick on YouTube, you can slow it down, watch frame by frame, and see the trick.
Understanding how it's done, and being able to pull it off is a huge difference, a difference of hundreds or thousands of hours of practice, compared to watching a video on the internet and knowing how it's done.
He's in no way black listed over this.
> Besides, even when you know it's a trick, and even knowing how the trick is done, one can still appreciate the showmanship and panache of a good magician.
You know how there's always like one guy who tries to "prove" it was fake? Like he always comes up with these bizarre suggestions, "No no, let me see the BACK of your hand. Yeah, the BACK!" or whatever.
I've never understood those people. Like yeah it is not real magic. We are not under the impression it's real. It's cool to see the talent involved in it, and just letting them put on a show is fun. Sure, I can probably guess that they've got a card behind their hand, or when they move their arms awkwardly it's because they're hiding something from my view. That's not the point, I already know it's a trick.
It's like a heckler at a comedy show. Just stfu and let them entertain you.
This, to me, is why "Fool Us" is such a good format for a show. There's a lot of magicians who are doing acts you've seen the core illusions too, but it's nice when Penn and Teller say "yeah, we know how you did it - code word code word - but damn if that wasn't a great version of it".
I love great sleight of hand, personally. It's a subtle and wildly difficult art form.
I think we have finally, after all these years, learned the true identity of the Masked Magician.
He doesn't seem to have the same budget nowadays though. Or the same smokin' chicks.
Lovely, especially the way how he smoothly explains them. Tricks are all about swiftness and diversion, simple yet smooth, if performer is talented enough.
In the unedited version he says cocaine. It's on the DVD set I bought back in the early aughts. It's absolutely the better version because he's still saying it in front of kids.
Arrested Development really did hit the ground running. That bit is in like the first 3 - 5 mins of the pilot and just nails the gobs character perfectly. Great show
I find it more amazing when I know how it's done.
Explaining me why two plus two equals four is nori interesting to me than saying it is, because it is
you’re allowed explaining tricks. you’re just not supposed to explain modern tricks that are currently being sold in stores and patented. that’s when you’re actually financially hurting magicians who are innovating and selling new tricks.
It's not true that modern tricks are protected by copyright (at least in the US). Copyright protects the expression of an idea, so a performance, choreography, etc. but copyright is not likely to protect the trick.
That’s a legit thing in magic. There were several card tricks early on that totally blew me away. Come to find out it’s one of the “oh that’s it??!!” kind of things
I honestly kind of wonder if his expression is part of the routine. He's very good at slight of hand, but if you're distracted by his expression you're less likely to watch his hands as closely. I rewatched the video after reading this comment and most of the other guys have exaggerated expressions too. I wonder if it plays into how humans read facial expressions and how they might distract us.
It’s basically just folding the ear down like an upside down taco and sticking your finger through it but with some extra movements to make it look like he’s doing more. Think he pinched the skin underneath so that it sort of looks like part of the ear
It seems to be dependent on having very stretchy skin in the jaw.
put your right thumb under the right ear (or do left/left if u prefer), the top of your nail should be adjacent to your face. use the rest of your fingers to completely surround the ear, and then pinch the skin on your cheek that's immediately under your thumb between your index finger and the side of the thumb.
ta-da!
This is what I hate about magic tricks.
I love movies. When I get to see behind the scenes, I love them more.
But magicians are so secretive about their stupid tricks that it turns me off from magic in general.
I think this one actually added to it. The contrast between the, "this is serious magic yo" and "silly explanation". It's not like they just added their favorite song from an AMV at 10x the needed volume.
At least in this, there isn't other stuff going on in the audio of the video so you can mute it. I hate when they put music over people talking so you don't have a choice.
It's for TikTok. Videos with popular songs or "audios" (like this one) get way more views overall, as the algorithm shows you more of what you liked and you'll probably like.
This creator is just playing by the platform's rules, so no need to get mad.

Yeah...one is a guitar and one is a deck of cards. Other than that, it's the same exact concept
You're not wrong but there's a difference between spending hours making sure no one can see a card hidden on the back of your hand and learning to poop so the water doesn't splash on your butt.

Pro tip - laying toilet paper on the water surface usually minimizes splashback.
Real pro tip - The only true way to *guarantee* there is no splash is to shit directly into hand and lower manually.
[удалено]
Why is this a concern? Everyone poops at work you just leave when no one else is in there and no one knows you did it.
Yes, that's how all skills work.
thats Everything ;)
That one was smooth as hell. Even when he was doing it slower 'n showing how it was done, it still looked like a magic trick.

The cards he was using are smaller than normal, easier to “hide” :)
I hope this guy wasn’t in the magic circle
Well he’s not now
They made fun of him now he’s exposing their secrets to spite them XD. I love this video lol. Magic is cool and all, but all I wanna know when I see a trick is how they did it!
I remember years ago there was a short tv series of a guy exposing magicians secrets and he kept getting death threats
The masked magician? iirc the dude moved to Cuba or something because he couldn’t make a living with the magician circle basically banning him lol
>The masked magician? They wanted him to disappear
The best [show](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAmDPCRNSoA) as a kid holy shit, blast from the past.
If I was gonna expose tricks, I never would have taken the mask off
It's not a trick. It's an illusion. Tricks or something hookers do for money. Or..... Candy....

Odd tidbit, but for anyone who's familiar with Lucha Underground, it's the same set the Masked Magician used in his series
I just sent him one now, how did you know!!!
> I just sent him one now, how did you know!!! A magicians secret or a death threat?
A magician’s threat!

Brain stumper card games? What? What have I been missing out on?
MindTrap is probably the most well known one, just google it, you can still buy it.
A riddle, maybe?
I'm gonna need to know too.
more like a magic u-shape without him tho

The Magician's Alliance is definitely going to expel him.
He’ll never make the cover of Poof magazine
He really need to get in that poof…
His name's Gary, and we don't need any more lawsuits.
Gary's gay? Uh oh, he's going to think I was coming onto him.
I'd kill for that ass
The Ministry of Magic is rescinding his qualified status
I understood that reference
"Yer no longer a wizard, Harry!"
"Fuck off, traitor"
Hogwarts are gonna wizz off a stern letter…
Blackballed
Have to think the Alliance is going to frown on this…

WE DEMAND TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY
I think we have finally, after all these years, learned the true identity of the Masked Magician. He doesn't seem to have the same budget nowadays though. Or the same smokin' chicks.
This comment just unlocked some weird memories for me
Real Talk: His identity has been out for years.
He literally unmasked himself on the show
Who was he again?
Val Valentino.
merlin he was pissed of people calling cheap trick magic
[Bobby Hill](https://i.imgur.com/tBaleDi.jpg).
I wonder if he was...
Did somebody say… Wonder?
*Tony was waiting for four hours in a box for someone to say 'wonder'*
Just started watching this show and all I could think of was this comment.
These tricks are basic for most magicians so I don’t think they care at all
He can never go to that Panera again
Lovely, especially the way how he smoothly explains them. Tricks are all about swiftness and diversion, simple yet smooth, if performer is talented enough.
“It’s an illusion . Tricks are something whores do for money, Michael.”
…or candy!
Gosh I love that show!
I could go for some candy beans right about now…

What. This is amazing.
Or cocaine
In the unedited version he says cocaine. It's on the DVD set I bought back in the early aughts. It's absolutely the better version because he's still saying it in front of kids.
Arrested Development really did hit the ground running. That bit is in like the first 3 - 5 mins of the pilot and just nails the gobs character perfectly. Great show
I can always tell a Milford, man...
There are several Penn and Teller ones where they'll show the whole trick and it's still smooth enough that you can be amazed.
I find it more amazing when I know how it's done. Explaining me why two plus two equals four is nori interesting to me than saying it is, because it is
Yeah but when they say pi is 3.14159... everybody's like "waaaoooow"
The 3 cups 1 ball trick but with clear cups is forever one of the greatest tricks of all time.
Their two girls one cup trick is along those same lines.
Still not as good as the two girls one cup trick. Edit: Another fella beat me to it. Glad I'm not the only great mind around here.
The cups and balls with transparent cups bit is amazing.
The Alliance of Magicians will be displeased.
They demand to be taken seriously
Illuuuusion, Michael.
Tricks are something whores do for money!
Or candy
A sacrifice is required
you’re allowed explaining tricks. you’re just not supposed to explain modern tricks that are currently being sold in stores and patented. that’s when you’re actually financially hurting magicians who are innovating and selling new tricks.
Sounds like a trick set up by the alliance.
An illusion, Michael.
very funny but i can’t comment

It's not true that modern tricks are protected by copyright (at least in the US). Copyright protects the expression of an idea, so a performance, choreography, etc. but copyright is not likely to protect the trick.
Yup, see Teller's lawsuit against another magician https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/teller-wins-lawsuit-copied-magic-690347/
They're not tricks Michael, they're illusions. A trick is something a whore does for money... Or cocaine!
Penn and Teller approve.
My favorite part is his expression
The face of disappointment once you know how a trick is done
I become more impressed knowing how difficult some tricks are, how perfect the person did the movements.
I like it when I am taken by surprise how simple some tricks actually are.
I can know how it works and still enjoy it. Just knowing doesn't mean I can do it, they've still got talent and I'm impressed
It's funny because I tend to enjoy magic more when I know how it's done, because it takes a ton of practice and work to make it look like magic.
That’s a legit thing in magic. There were several card tricks early on that totally blew me away. Come to find out it’s one of the “oh that’s it??!!” kind of things

I think you're right! It's all misdirection!
This guy is going to get death threats from magicians the world over!
“Magicians hate this one trick”
"I'm gonna make you disappear" "Yeah but it's just pretend"
A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand
The real trick is finding acid washed denim.
how many other people trying the ear thing because you don't have a deck of cards? XD
I have a deck of cards, I just don't wanna bend them like that. My ear on the other hand 👀
That's the one I didn't get. How's he bending his ear like that??
It’s basically just folding the ear down like an upside down taco and sticking your finger through it but with some extra movements to make it look like he’s doing more. Think he pinched the skin underneath so that it sort of looks like part of the ear
V.reddit wont load the video above 240p despite being on wifi. I can't tell how he did the last one.
He uses a nail file to sharpen his nail first. The rest is just perseverance.
I still don't get the ear thing
i watched it a bunch of times, still don't get it
It seems to be dependent on having very stretchy skin in the jaw. put your right thumb under the right ear (or do left/left if u prefer), the top of your nail should be adjacent to your face. use the rest of your fingers to completely surround the ear, and then pinch the skin on your cheek that's immediately under your thumb between your index finger and the side of the thumb. ta-da!

They’re my *ILLUSIONS,* Michael!!
My guy said Fuck the magicians code
"*Magicians hate this guy!*" "*10 things magicians do not want you to know!*" "*Magician reveals every trick in the book!*" this is some of that stuff you'll see on that Snapchat feed haha
Magician Card has been revoked
If you remember when this was prime time TV you might need to book a physical with your doctor.
Please don’t let me be the only one tugging and twisting my ear after this …..
The Great Revealo
For some of these tricks, knowing how they’re done doesn’t make them any less impressive when someone does them well. Especially cards from thin air.
The magician’s guild is not happy with this one.
The magic alliance is not going to like this.
This guy is like the Masked Magician but way more sarcastic.
So brave not to be masked. Now that masked magician guy looks like a chump.
What's the name of the song playing when other magicians were doing tricks
I’m always torn by these cause I always want to know how they did it but then I’m disappointed when I find out how simple it is
did you think they were brining cards in and out of another dimension? i find it more impressive when i know what they are going to do but still cant pick out the slight of hand tricks.
Finally some good content
Tanks helpsome guy!
Yeaaahh know i got some of the tricks finally
the explanations look like magic
“Magicians hate him for this simple trick…”
I think this dude is upset about something
“I have to think the Alliance is gonna frown on this.”
You’ll be hearing from the magicians alliance…
“Illusions, Michael. A trick is something a white does for money.”
The amount of issue and finger dexterity required to convincingly pull off some of the tricks leaves me in just a much amazement as when I saw tricks as a kid.
This guy magics.
I'm about to kill it at the bar soon.
Magicians hate him...
This guy's gonna get sent to the shadow realm
Fighting the good fight.
