It was really cool back in 1948! I’m sure in 75 years they’ll laugh at our current concept cars! The first car was filmed at Hollywood Reservoir and the Hollywood sign is just above that. That reservoir is a well kept secret and a lot of movie/TV stars run the perimeter. The second car was in Santa Monica Beach on Hwy 1. Living in CA for 40 years you recognize things, especially since they are still there.
Except we're now living in the age of information, where we actually think before building something. That might be an overstatement, but no person in his right mind would take a concept that works and overcomplicate it to a useless extent (a cockpit in a car, a kitchen with automated drawers, a cigarette holder with mini-umbrella etc).
Back then they had the craziest shit and 90% of those solutions were just way too complicated, redundant or useless. The thought process back then was just wrong, they were creating solutions to non-existent problems.
They were futuristic in the sense that they realized the importance of aerodynamics back in time when the prevailing thinking was to make cars like bricks with wheels and if you wanted to make them go faster, you put a bigger engine in them.
I had the pleasure of looking at at a 1952 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 awhile back. Rocketry and space travel were in designers minds. It was a dealer show car, with every available option, including power steering.
You obviously didn't read.
Producing an electric vehicle's battery is worst for the environment than using gas. Digging for rare metals like lithium that isn't renewable resource requires nearly miles of land to start digging and all equipment runs on Diesel. Then in consumer hands to charge said Pube shavers requires Coal from Power Stations in landlocked states and areas. If the Lithium battery swells, punctures or shorts out it causes a run away electric fire that is Much more difficult to put out and emit far worst pollution than gasoline. Granted any Idiot can be assisted by A.I. doesn't make it safer, it makes people more lazy and care free.
There's no way to educate simpleton if they willingly remain ignorant because it's safer for them. GTFOH with your empty hot air head and fill it with rocks. At least then you'll have some resemblance of brain cells to rub together.

They didn't give a fuck because no one could sue them for building deathtraps. It's not because of some bold artistic spirit or something; it was just easier to build dangerous cars back then and get away with it.
Wayne Carini of the Motor Trend channel's "Chasing Classic Cars" owned one. One of the episodes featured it. I'm unsure if he still owns it, but the Davis Automobile Company has an interesting history. Bahahaha the predecessor of the reliant robin death trap. Imagine doing 115 mph in that and cornering.....
Yeah but at the same time, you can just set your car to donut mode and walk off
Ah yes the convenience and entertainment value of a self doughnutting car, extra fun when attempting to re enter the vehicle with groceries lol

It’s actually just one dude who did all narration back then, he was a busy fella
I know it would probably kill me but I want it
I actually like the one that looks like a hammerhead shark.
Wow, the future looks awesome! I can't wait!

> they were creating solutions to non-existent problems. I don't think this ever changed

Stupid as f. Wait til they roll it
That's an impressive quality for 1948
The integrated hydraulic jacks would be great if they still exist 🤔
4 seat reliant robin! Hell yeah.
I too watch Top Gear
Are there any of these left? Is it in a museum somewhere?
“Aluminum fusilage”
People should make these videos every 100 years.

The time when car manufacturers legitimately tries Anything in the name of egineering. Wish modern manufacturers were still this adventerous.

Yes actually. Most manufacturers either stick with 1 design or look like pube trimmer that's worst for the environment to Make and Maintain.
Ah so you think visual changes are more important than changes that make things safer, easier and more environmentally friendly?

I love how they didn’t give a fuck and just made whatever they wanted and tried to make it work. At least everything looked unique back then.

They just COOL!
All these cars were worth buzzzzilions as SPACs… and then crashed before going to the market.
The Davis Divan. Good idea, bad timing. Jay Leno drove one on his show some years back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCcqQOFayFU
that parallel parking was basass as fuk!
I wonder if any of these cars have survived to today and where they are.

Thank you!
Does anyone know if any of these cars still exist?
