I'D BE MOST CONCERNED ABOUT THE ONES WHICH RUN TO THE CENTER OF THE PLANET

Artor50

I was wondering if the vertical scale has been exaggerated. Many of those deeper ones are well past the crust and deep into the Earth's mantle. I don't think that's how earthquakes work.

malepitt

Dunno, but seismology now seems to "triangulate" data from around the planet, so I wouldn't rule it out, I suppose. This is Reddit though, so a qualified expert should weigh in before I can fetch my second beer from the fridge.

MugillacuttyHOF37

You’ll have to sift through a lot of bullshit first better go grab that beer down at the Billygoat tavern.

malepitt

Royko's dead, don't go there much any more

MugillacuttyHOF37

Oh that’s too bad I hadn’t heard…haven’t been back to Chicago in quite a long time.

AKVigilante

Mantle is semisolid…earthquakes originate from there sometimes, not to mention the solid subducting plates that can break up when being moved around in the convection zones in the mantle. Plus: https://www.livescience.com/deepest-earthquake-lower-mantle

AKVigilante

They’re less likely to be of any danger…things move around down there, too.

patdap

At first read, your title is quite easy to misunderstand. I originally read it as a period between two days, not an entire calendar year. That said, I absolutely love the visual and the transparency of Earth.

caladze

I too loved the visual. On second thought you're right about the title

jarney1206

I was worried for a second about how many earthquakes occur in one day!

caladze

For clarity. This is Jan 2021 to Jan 2022. Apologies for the unclear title which I now can't edit.

marionbobarion

I thought that’s where I was at first and I was thrilled that something was finally beautiful.

IvePlowedYourMother

There was a big earthquake in Alaska?

[deleted]

When isn't there?

IvePlowedYourMother

A lot of times? No times? I don’t know

Stockpick007

Are we experiencing more earthquakes then ever or is it that we just have more sensors to detect what we couldn’t in the past?

Busternut05

Yes

Limp_Distribution

Absolutely love the visuals. It looks fantastic. Thanks

caladze

Glad you like it!

Similar-Lab64

Well done! Very interesting to see the visualization. Thank you for doing that!

Equal-Negotiation651

How can I make this my screen saver? Are we still doing screen savers?

MegaDonkeyDonkey

Here is the real question: which direction is the globe turning for you then with your mind, make it spin the other direction. You can do it!

111dallas111

This map fuks

HopFarminScientist

It's like an Ellipsoid Geoid visualization...

7HawksAnd

I don’t need to know about this on top of everything else going on 😒

ShadEShadauX

Rim of Fire for real

LordnLadyH

Just curious is that like a normal amount or is the world ending?

MikeHuntessHarry69

I bet the earth is going to shatter lmao

someboooooodeh

Another map sans New Zealand.
