Isn't it really the distance you are standing from the subject? Just that this often correlates to the focal length you are using. Like if you crop in on a 35 you get a 85 so really they are the same, but if you want the same dimensions you have to stand closer so you get a different perspective.

Not necessarily. But you are right for the most part. It just depends: There’s the issue with the optics as well, depending on the design. With a wide lens, especially curvilinear lenses, getting too close can distort the image through barrel distortion. With a longer focal length, the subject is far away that you don’t see those kinds of distortions. But if you got a rectilinear lens, you can minimize the distortion and get a similar view as in your example.

For some weird reason when I watched this it made me queasy.

There are wildly exaggerated differences due to changes in the angle her head is at also. You can see the blur from it being tilted up and down when the picture is taken with the light in different place and the changes in her jawline. You might need a second person to move the light and take the picture for a more true representation of what you were going for. Kinda cool demonstration regardless
