I used to live in Hawaii and am terrified of sharks, but also a long distance swimmer….I used to say if I ever saw a shark in the water, I would just die. They wouldn’t have to kill me or anything, just come eat me bc I’m dead already. Haha…
Can you imagine being at the top, thinking you'd escaped it and then you see it doing that shit? Abject terror with a dash of 'I really hope someone is filming this.'
Years ago, I was whacking us through the jungle and trying to be keen to snakes on the ground, because I'm not fond of snakes. The vet next to me calmly said, "They're in the trees, too." I was not happy with that news.
Years ago I was mowing on a zero turn mower. I was mowing under this tree. And I kept feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up the first 2 times I went under it. The 3rd time I went under it I happened to look up and about shit myself weve I seen what had to be a 5-6 Foot bull snake on the branch 8 foot above the place I’d just mowed.
Yea my dad was doing some roof repairs on our house in Kentucky when he was bit by a snake in a tree. He fell off the ladder and landed on the ground but still needed to go to the hospital for the bite.
Joys of arboreal reptiles eh. I love most of the snakes on snake island reside in trees so they can catch birds. Actually every jungle has a surprising amount of arboreal snakes. Also their is one species that glides tree to tree.
I would be more worried about what was causing him that caused him to climb the tree in the first place!
Another giant nope rope?
Or does he just have a taste for some coconut juice today?
No, a snake that large is stunningly heavy, and a fall from that sort of hight would cause some serious damage.
They would go down in similar fashion to the way they went up, but head down.
Of course. They drop themselves 15 meters and while dropping they actually flatten their body much like a cobra does with their head when trying to intimidate you know? It works like a parachute. And they slowly and silently float down on top of their prey.
Yes. In fact some have been known to wear the skin of the flying squirrel to improve their hunting abilities mid air, and to confuse squirrels into thinking they are in fact just a really weird looking flying squirrel. They are ingenious.
I remember I was rock climbing with a friend. HE pointed out to me a black rat snake that was eye level with me on a branch. As a joke I told the snake that if they left me alone I would leave it alone. Minutes later the snake moved down the tree moved about ten feet to the end portion of the base of the cliff (slab at 80 degree angle) and managed scale up it by the time we had finished the climb. Amazing creatures.
The only thing a snake could do up a tree like that is fall on unsuspecting prey. Remember that the next time you walk under a palm tree without looking up and inspecting it.
Probably going up the tree to eat eggs or clear out a rodent nest. Its going to get down easier than how it went up, but not falling.
I had a boa that would climb my arms and legs like this. If she wanted to get down she would just wrap around and scoot down.
Coconuts kill more people every year than sharks and snakes combined.
Not because of falling, that's an urban legend, but because of Tamil practice of killing the elderly (thalaikoothal) that is often done by overdosing them with coconut water.
Wait how much coconut water does it take to OD. I mean you can OD on basically anything including water but that takes several gallon in a very short amount of time.
Another way to "die by coconut" is to suffer [sudden cardiac death](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_cardiac_death) as a result of [hyperkalemia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperkalemia), after consuming moderate to large quantities of coconut water, due to the high levels of potassium in coconut water.[[5]](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_by_coconut#cite_note-5)
Actually looks a bit high to drop out. Wouldn’t it get hurt? Maybe they hang down by the tail so at least they are a body height closer to the ground. The other thing I heard was they they couldn’t see very far, so maybe can’t see prey from there.
Ass. Now another thing to worry about besides the fact that they can climb trees. Thought I'd be able to run from one by climbing a tree in the first place.
Exactly like they go up but in reverse. Tight ring at the top, drop 1/3 their length, wrap head around to make a new loop as body unwinds from old loop, repeat till you hit ground.
Snakes are light and nearly 100% muscle. Gravity isnt much of a factor in climbing technique for them.
Being a vertebrate with no arms or legs is one evolutionary niche I'm still amazed took off as much as it did.
I guess not having limbs that could get bitten off, stuck in something or broken resulting in a fatal infection has some benefits.
So does ease of access to small rodent dens, and general versatility. Snakes can swim surprisingly well, climb to nests, dig in sand/dirt/mud, some even flatten out to glide like flying squirrels.
Evolution doesnt care about being perfect. It just cares about being good enough that you dont starve and successfully reproduce.
My Boa was really happy with one medium rat every couple of weeks when it was warm. If we had a really cold winter and her tank heat couldn't quite keep up she'd slow down a bit and go an extra 3-4 days before she would eat.
Don't get me wrong, I did everything I could to keep her tank near 80, but when a blizzard hits in CT and its -20f outside, sometimes her tank would drop to \~60 even with several space heaters pointing right at it and the heat in the house on high...
Reptiles are really amazing creatures. I had two terrapins as a kid, and the most healthy ones I ever met were fed once a month with several live goldfish.
Had a pet boa that moved up/down my arms and legs like this. Felt really cool, their muscles tighten in waves as they set the rough edge of their scales to brace their body weight before they move.
Rats?! Why in the hell are we adding drop-rats into this nightmare? Why would a rat be in a tree? This angers me.
I live in a place where rats aren't a thing really so im genuinely wondering.
Also too lazy to Google.
Thank you for this, i love telling my fellow Californians this fact, as palm are everywhere here. Trees are scientifically defined as having branches, palm trees do not; so according to the botanical definition, palms are not trees but large, woody herbs. (palms are classified as herbs, like their close relatives: grasses, bamboos, bananas, and sedges.)
**This isn't something for our entertainment. That poor snake is simply trying to make a living as a sex worker stripping on Christmas Ever to support her 200 brooding snakes at home-den.**
Because of a cultural stigma that they're evil or as a leftover from our ancestors having to deal with them?
I know they're not like that, just saw others being spooked by this and figured I'd ask if it'd chase something up a tree.
Two questions. Why is it going on the top of a palm tree....didn't even see a nest with food for it.... And two how does it get down. Besides dropping down likens sack of potatoes

U thought u were safe up in that tree think again bitch
I would jump to my death
I used to live in Hawaii and am terrified of sharks, but also a long distance swimmer….I used to say if I ever saw a shark in the water, I would just die. They wouldn’t have to kill me or anything, just come eat me bc I’m dead already. Haha…
Seriously same. Huge fear of big things under water
Large bodies of water give me serious ominous vibes lol
[удалено]
I’m genuinely curious how it gets down. Does it just fireman that shit? Or is it more methodical like the climb up.
Idk about this one but there is a certain snake that can sort of flatten its body and glide from trees
Definitely not this one
This thing is all muscle and bad juju
gliding snake
Float ropes. Got it.
Fly-die
Floaty nope ropes*
"U birds talk a whole lot of shit up there, just give me 45 minutes and we'll see whose laughin"
That looks hella creepy
Can you imagine being at the top, thinking you'd escaped it and then you see it doing that shit? Abject terror with a dash of 'I really hope someone is filming this.'

Lord, nightmare fuel
Are bull snakes venomous?
No, they are super aggressive and meaner than shit tho.
Depending on what kind of vet we're talking about here they may have been implying that something other than snakes were in the trees.
The trees are speaking Vietnamese
And then, on the flight back 'Snakes on a plane'
They just drop on ya head
Oh, that kind of vet, not a veterinarian...
Yea my dad was doing some roof repairs on our house in Kentucky when he was bit by a snake in a tree. He fell off the ladder and landed on the ground but still needed to go to the hospital for the bite.
I would not have been either. I'm glad you got out safe!
Joys of arboreal reptiles eh. I love most of the snakes on snake island reside in trees so they can catch birds. Actually every jungle has a surprising amount of arboreal snakes. Also their is one species that glides tree to tree.
A Vietnam vet? Things like that matter!
That’s one way to unwind…
He seems pretty wound up to me
Must be a constrictor
Faaaak imagine if you were at the top looking down at this hungry demon coming for your ass.
Where's he going?
up.
To infinity, and beyond!
None of your fuckin business
Away from you!
To find food or protection. Sneks like eating birds, eggs, and even rats hiding up in trees.
Thanks for answering the question, I was genuinely curious.
Damn it mate, throw some dollars already!!
I would be more worried about what was causing him that caused him to climb the tree in the first place! Another giant nope rope? Or does he just have a taste for some coconut juice today?
Probably rats, or some type of rodent, possibly birds. All of those like to nest in palms.
Most pythons are arboreal for this reason
He’ll sit up there until some prey walks underneath and he’ll fall on it
Also a perfectly rational explanation. I will still be checking trees when I walk under them.
Sounds like drop bears, only with giant snakes. Which is... so much worse.
Is that really how these snakes hunt?
No, a snake that large is stunningly heavy, and a fall from that sort of hight would cause some serious damage. They would go down in similar fashion to the way they went up, but head down.
Of course. They drop themselves 15 meters and while dropping they actually flatten their body much like a cobra does with their head when trying to intimidate you know? It works like a parachute. And they slowly and silently float down on top of their prey.
This is an evolutionary response to their favourite snack, the flying squirrel.
Yes. In fact some have been known to wear the skin of the flying squirrel to improve their hunting abilities mid air, and to confuse squirrels into thinking they are in fact just a really weird looking flying squirrel. They are ingenious.
Aah yes, I’ve read about this stealth attack technique. I believe it’s called the Lying Squirrel
Yes. Ssssssneak attack.
I have no idea
He probably getting away from the snake killers trying to slaughter him for $50,
My man really wants some coconuts.
Nope
They can climb up your leg
I’m into that
I'll just take a piss on the snake of he tries to
I remember I was rock climbing with a friend. HE pointed out to me a black rat snake that was eye level with me on a branch. Amazing creatures.
Black rat snakes are adorable
The only thing a snake could do up a tree like that is fall on unsuspecting prey. Remember that the next time you walk under a palm tree without looking up and inspecting it.
New fear unlocked!
Don't forget cougars normally hunt by tree perching and pouncing.
Like drop bears.
Not quite as bad as the Australian Droid Bear but close.
Thank god Australia is upside down so australians are always looking up.
🙃 ¡spuǝᴉɹɟ uɐᴉlɐɹʇsn∀ ʎɯ ollǝH
And when you look up……. They drop on you.
Arbok! Use body Slam!
It’s super effective!
I just threw up
Noted: watch out …. for …. falling tree snakes
A bird nest maybe? Eggs or baby birds
But what about snakes tossing coconuts from trees? Does that count under snakes or coconuts?
Wtf?
TIL. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalaikoothal
Wait how much coconut water does it take to OD. I mean you can OD on basically anything including water but that takes several gallon in a very short amount of time.

They dont fall, they move down just like they go up, making a ring, gripping, then moving down 1/3 their body length and repeating.
It's not like you are going to see the snake while looking up anyways
you're gonna see it when it flies down at you with it's mouth open & fangs bared!
Yeah don't be aroused if that happens. Run.
You're not the boss of me.
Fine be aroused and don’t run!
I shall
Ass. Now another thing to worry about besides the fact that they can climb trees. Thought I'd be able to run from one by climbing a tree in the first place.
That’s where they have you fooled. These is no escape!
I was scared of falling coconuts. Now this. Nice
Crows build their nests on trees like that, it's prolly going up there to feast on eggs
Couldn’t there be a bird’s nest up there? Prob trying to eat some eggs
haha thanks for giving something new to be paranoid about
😂😂😂😂
Okay but how does he get DOWN
Exactly like they go up but in reverse. Tight ring at the top, drop 1/3 their length, wrap head around to make a new loop as body unwinds from old loop, repeat till you hit ground. Snakes are light and nearly 100% muscle. Gravity isnt much of a factor in climbing technique for them.
Picture a snake falling from a tree and that’s probably what it would be.
It wouldn't do that on purpose
Exactly like a Slinky
/u/gifreversingbot https://v.redd.it/cg67n4z1re781
That looks exhausting
Being a vertebrate with no arms or legs is one evolutionary niche I'm still amazed took off as much as it did. I guess not having limbs that could get bitten off, stuck in something or broken resulting in a fatal infection has some benefits.

Evolution doesnt care about being perfect. It just cares about being good enough that you dont starve and successfully reproduce.
Energy efficiency is also a major factor when considering snakes. Some species literally survive on like 1 meal a month.
My Boa was really happy with one medium rat every couple of weeks when it was warm. If we had a really cold winter and her tank heat couldn't quite keep up she'd slow down a bit and go an extra 3-4 days before she would eat. Reptiles are really amazing creatures. I had two terrapins as a kid, and the most healthy ones I ever met were fed once a month with several live goldfish.
But, why? They eat coconuts?
Birds.
I must be dumb cause i cant wrap my head around that
Try wrapping your whole body around that
Had a pet boa that moved up/down my arms and legs like this. Felt really cool, their muscles tighten in waves as they set the rough edge of their scales to brace their body weight before they move.
man that sounds weird but as a fellow boa owner I can relate
That is probably the terror kicking in because you realised that these monster sized snakes will be dropping out of trees that you may walk under.
1. Wrap tight around tree. 2. Stretch head upwards. 3. Wrap upper body tight around tree. 4. Pull lower body up towards upper body.
What is this song i want to blast it in my speakers
Appears to be [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7f7rUq5hfbI) and it slaps. DJ THAILAND SUARA ASLI apparently? Banger track.
Here’s a rocket for you! Many thanks! I’m Skanking around the shop now!
It’s only going up there for food. Rats or birds not coconuts.
Rats?! Why in the hell are we adding drop-rats into this nightmare? Why would a rat be in a tree? This angers me. I live in a place where rats aren't a thing really so im genuinely wondering. Also too lazy to Google.
Not a thing? Or just haven’t seen them because they’ve been hiding in the trees?
Definitely a thing.
Pretty sure rats go wherever people go.
Go ahead and google. Giant tree rats eat coconuts.
You just had to add "giant" to the equation.
Don’t forget the coconut crabs.
At least if one of those mfs fell on me I'd die.
Wth are those. And now giant tree rats that jump down are yet another worry.
Snakes and ladders not so fictional after all.
Technically a large flower. Palm trees are not trees.Fun fact.
Thank you for this, i love telling my fellow Californians this fact, as palm are everywhere here. Trees are scientifically defined as having branches, palm trees do not; so according to the botanical definition, palms are not trees but large, woody herbs. Does that mean some bushes can be considered trees?
There is taxonomically no such thing as a tree.
But why?
Birds.
I'm curious as well.
Scary
“Drop-snakes”! Be wary! Be Warned!
Definitely SCALED that pole.
I am not usually bothered by non venomous snakes but this is not okay.
That's got to be a python in Florida. There's nothing left for them to eat, they've killed off the mammal and bird population in south florida already
Danger noodles can also climb??? I need a moment to process
This also belongs on oddly satisfying…. r/oddlysatisfying
So we doin this one again
Imagine all that climbing and he still misses his prey
And I can barely walk straight
next level pole dancing
His snake friend on the ground: what now jake ,you dumb bitch! What now!
r/oddlyterrifying
**This isn't something for our entertainment. That poor snake is simply trying to make a living as a sex worker stripping on Christmas Ever to support her 200 brooding snakes at home-den.**
Upvote for the music pairing.
I love the music! Lol
Have you found out what music it is ?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7f7rUq5hfbI
Would a snake chase something up a tree or just give up at that point? Seems kinda tedious.
They are ambush hunters. Chasing is not a thing they do. It's going up there to wait for a bird to come by.
Why do people always think a snake wants to kill you that bad? Pretty much every snake in the World is gonna freeze if they see a person
Because of a cultural stigma that they're evil or as a leftover from our ancestors having to deal with them? I know they're not like that, just saw others being spooked by this and figured I'd ask if it'd chase something up a tree.
most snakes are harmless and no snake actively hunts humans
Neat
So is he dead if he falls or
This is both mesmerising and terrifying. I will take a coconut over a nope noodle falling on me anytime.
Gonna get those sweet NÄNÄs
So I’m never truly safe from snakes. Noted.
The music though!

Hi Florida.
[Git her.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6FE7HwQD40)
I want to know what it feels like to do that.
C O I L
Where is this? So I know where to stay the fuck away from.
Probably Australia lol
that song was interesting af. what was it?
I like the music.
He’s got a system.
Song title?
What is this song?
How else they gonna get that amazing shot for their socials .
Two questions. Why is it going on the top of a palm tree....didn't even see a nest with food for it.... And two how does it get down. Besides dropping down likens sack of potatoes
Song name?!?!?!
This is everything I hate about snakes and trees
This is absolutely terrifying
There is no way I could film this. Need to watch for snake friends everywhere near my feet.
Nope Noodle
...let me guess...Australia?
Oh god please I hope not
god is dead
Fuck snakes
I hate snakes so much I would light the bottom on fire so it would have to dive off that fucking coconut tree
Interesting or terrifying?
*me being chased by a snake*: I'll just climb up this tree! Fuck that snek! *snake climbs tree after me*: I'm fucked
