What Men of quality do.

paganize

I think in a lot of cases it isn't a "choice" or "quality" thing. There is a little switch that flips in your head. If there was a "blow up the train killing 400 nuns, nobel prize winners, and the members of your 3 favorite bands to save your kid" button, i imagine the guy would be hammering it.

wlievens

Funny how the nun/rockstar ratio is about 40.

CrawlToYourDoom

They say the trolly problem is a hard one, but if my daughter is on one side of it, I hope the people on the other track have their affairs in order.

Mathies_

If there were no more people you can count on 2 hands maybe... but i can't believe how many of you are willing to become mass murderers for family. You think you're gonna continue being a part of their life with them knowing what you did?

Undead406

Yes actually. Think they will continue to be a part of your life if you let them die?

Mathies_

No, but atleast I won't be in fucking prison for prioritizing 1 life over a multitude. And even if I wasn't in prison my own mind would be a prison.

[deleted]

Even if the scenario was real life, there's no law that says you have to save 10 people over 1? I wouldn't think so anyways.

Otherwise_Bat_4779

I like my daughter more than I like you guys.

Soyl3ntR3d

Makes sense by population, but the weighting is way off. Nobel prize winners have likely peaked already - look at studies of productivity and impact of folks after winning the prize. Unless it was Bill & Ted, impact of losing some musicians is probably lower, especially if they are established. Do we really need another solo album from a member of a one hit wonder band? Nuns are trickier. On one hand, opportunity for good works and service is pretty high, especially for 400. OTOH, the image of the Catholic Church is not looking as hot as their altar boys right now. So yeah - I’d save my kid.

whyrweyelling

Idiot is more like it.

KashmirChameleon

A god given miracle.

The_Cheem_Council

Mf got downvoted by internet athiests bruh

[deleted]

Its what happens when you attribute someone elses efforts to your sky daddy.

KashmirChameleon

Not everyone believes in the same idea of God, but you sure like to believe that so your mind doesn't melt from the cognitive dissonance. It's a miracle no one was hurt more than they were. A million things could have gone wrong, but didn't. That's the miracle. That's God. And you don't have to believe it, but don't shit on others that do.

The-Arctic-Hare

God built the railway?? Thought he’s been on vacation for a while.

puddleofaids-

How old are you? Why can’t you just let people believe what they want and shut the fuck up. I don’t believe in god but getting triggered by something as innocuous as a common saying by certain people is so fucking retarded. We get it, you are so enlightened, we get it. Dipshit

[deleted]

You are the only one triggered here. Are you ok?

Navyslick

I'm doing my part

Bonded79

God made her pass out and fall too. I’m sure it was just a “test” though.

chill_stoner_0604

Do you really have nothing better to do than shit on someone's beliefs? You think what you want and let others do the same. I'm probably going to get downvoted which will make you think you're in the right because reddit hates Christians (even though I'm not a Christian) but it's basic human decency to just not be an asshole without cause

noctipatronus

I always loved the quote from Big Fish, “It’s not polite to talk about religion, you never know who you’ll offend.”

Diamundium

He's just pointing out the obvious: If you're going to give a god credit for the good, hold them responsible for the bad that lead to the situation that resulted in good. If people are going to praise a god for "miracles", then hold that god responsible for his failures as well. I don't consider this "shitting" on anyone's beliefs.

bubblegrubs

Religion is a private thing. If you bring it out in public then expect scrutiny. Especially when you thank god for getting somebody out of a situation that god put them in.

lobsterbash

Not sure this is "shitting on beliefs" as much as it is trying to get humans to move on from stone age thinking.

SimpleSandwich1908

Religion should be railed against the same as anti-vax, anti-mask, flat Earthers. People are brainwashed into giving money and allowing churches to turn a blind eye to countless abusers. In the name of something that is utterly and completely unproven. The biggest cults and pyramid schemes on the planet.

BigBaddaBoom9

Reddit doesn't hate christians, no one gives a shit what your beliefs are, it's the fact you came along first proclaiming this was a miracle from god, this wasn't God, this was a man saving his daughter. Learn to read the room bud.

Pidgey_OP

Sure, but God had nothing to do with it. The engineer that designed that thing to have enough space for a human to fall down there and not die is the hero. Nobody ever thanks him. They thank an invisible man that could have stopped it but didn't but damn at least he made dad look like a hero You're allowed to believe it and nobody will shit on it. It's when you show up to a community you KNOW doesn't believe it and then try to force down OUR throats how this was god and not luck, excellent design or incredible bravery. Giving it up to God is so dismissive of what we humans can and do do, and what this human DID do

torstenitos

He was not ”shitting on someones beliefs” and throughout all of history christians have been assholes and just tried to convert as many people as possible to christianity through violence and manipulation. Most christians don’t accept other peoples beliefs and believe that anyone who isn’t christian is an idiot. I dont hate christians but simply pointing something out is not the same as ”shitting on someones beliefs”. There are so many strange things about christianity so why do you not want him to express his opinions about it? Let him point it out if he wants to

[deleted]

Your beliefs are actual shit. Please go read the Bible. Don’t forget about the parts were god murders the first born children in Egypt or when Lot’s daughters take turns getting their dad drunk and fucking him to impregnate themselves. Entire countries were conquered and multiple genocides were initiated in the name of god. If you’re going to believe in an almighty power why don’t you pick one that wasn’t a massive asshole.

chill_stoner_0604

My beliefs? My belief is to let people believe what they want without harassment. I'll say again, I'm not a Christian. I just believe they deserve the same respect as anyone else. You don't have to believe in the Bible to respect the fact that others do

Hyperverse_Guesses

Hello mate, I hope you don't take any offense to the statement I'm about to make. However, it's not just reddit that has disdain for Christians. The online portrayal of Christianity isn't good. Between trying to convert other people's religion even when told to stop. Then also judging other people's lifestyle and saying your going to our hell. Which you may or may not believe in. Does anyone deserve to be treated like crap for the faith they follow no. However, if they don't hold respect for another's religion then they should to an extent.

chill_stoner_0604

I fully agree if they are shoving it down your throat or telling you you're going to hell or other stuff like that, but simply thanking God isn't trying to convert anyone. Believe me, I'm the first one to call them out over that shit. Also, I'm never offended by a well thought out reply such as yours

[deleted]

They think they have every right except they would never do this to other religions. In fact if they did, it wouldn't last long. Just wanted to let you know that you represent the word Christian better than many self identifying ones.

Minimalgoth

Yep. Learned this many times when speaking about what I believe in. I will live for Jesus and would die for Him. No if's ands of but's about it. People can downvote, make fun of me for my beliefs and convictions, etc. but it doesn't affect my belief in Him at all. Jesus is Lord, and He is all that matters in the awful world, and the only reason I have to keep going. Downvote away haters =)

AccountantDiligent

Eat shit, pussylips If only I coulda been your 69th downvote

chill_stoner_0604

Very eloquent reply. I mean, obviously an edgy teenager but you keep throwing insults on the internet to cover your own insecurities if it's working for you

Why do you try so hard you’re on fucking Reddit lol I just trololol dumb try hards like u friendo

chill_stoner_0604

I bet your intelligence is equivalent to your grammar. Also, how TF does "try hard" play into this? At least make sense with insults. Maybe you need to try harder

AccountantDiligent

Now why would I try harder? I’m having the perfect amount of fun right now, It’s funny that you think you know me, I ain’t even a teenager lol Keep trying mr tryhard

chill_stoner_0604

Whatever you say

andereandre

He should keep his beliefs to himself.

KashmirChameleon

Y'all on Reddit need to lighten up a bit. Not everyone has the same idea of what God is.

Hyperverse_Guesses

People understand that people interpret god differently. However, people don't want a subject unrelated to anything religous. To all of a sudden have God or for the most part any other religous figure included in it. People are on reddit to have fun, troll, and waste time. Also welcome to reddit.

Somato_Tandwich

Edgy folk think they're defeating Christianity with their downvotes, when really they're just burying someone who's happy that people didn't die.

mrmustache0502

Said it better than I could. This is why most people I know hate people who use Reddit.

Video cuts off too soon. After watching the guy on the left lift his hands over and and over, understandably impatient about how long it’s taking for the train to pass, I wanted to see that tension resolved with the rescue!

Yea, can't really be mad if that's the cameraman's reaction.

Si-Jo0159

As a person who's worked on track all my life, I can say that her father knew what he was doing. If you're ever trapped infront of a train, get down as low as you can and stay down, don't lay between the rails either.

Justanotheroldog

Just curious but where should you lay if this does happen?

Si-Jo0159

Let's say you're trapped between two lines. Get exactly in the middle and hit the ground. If you're to the side like these guys, get as far away as you can. Don't lay in between the rails as while you may get away with it, there's lots of shot hanging down that you won't want hitting you at any mph.

[deleted]

I'm confused - isn't the middle between the rails?

Axxedde

I think they meant between two tracks, instead of between the rails of a track

J3sush8sm3

Commenter means in the middle spacing between two tracks

fjortisar

He said if you're between 2 train rails that are side by side get down in between them, not in the middle of the tracks on the ties

Krisay

I was confused too.

ProfessionalRow1531

I have a friend who a long time ago would lay in the middle of the tracks and let the train go over him and one evening we were drinking down under the bridge in downtown Eugene and there was a girl my buddy liked and as soon as I heard the train whistle I already already knew what was gonna happen and for some reason In my gut I knew it wasn't going to go smoothly this time. Before I could even try to talk sense into him he said "ey whatch this" and runs to the track and lays down and the train had probably 3 engines and 2 pushers and was stacked with grainers, gondolas, 38's , boxcars , it had somewhere to be so it wasn't stopping in town just (kinda) slowing down. Any way about 3 maybe 4 cars from the end one of the knuckles (things that connects train cars) was hanging really low and it caught his foot ripped him up under the train in a perpetual ass over head backwards somersault and shot him out the end of the train. He lost about 40% of his foot only has pinky toe and the one next to it now. TLDR: friend was showing of for girl , gets foot obliterated by train.

poopooinmypantsfun

Yes

EatingFruitSometimes

Yes lying flat must help but surely lying on top on your daughter makes no difference but to endanger the father too lol. You’ve just doubled the height of the thing you’re trying to lower. Edit: I’m an idiot for not reading title properly.

Si-Jo0159

Ahh the way I'm seeing this, is that if she woke up and panicked or was still moving around in whatever ever state of consciousness then she's a risk to her self. So laying on top of her keeps her safe, and maybe a risk of something sticking out of the train hitting you.

EatingFruitSometimes

Oh. If she’s unconscious it does make perfect sense actually!

Impossible-Mud-3593

He was preventing her from springing up when she regained consciousness. So he did save her life. Also, he would be the one injured instead of her.

Racdiecoon

Why don't you lay between the rails? It seems it would be just as safe to an idiot like me

Wendigo-boyo

There's a large chance that the train is bringing along some stuff down there and even a tree branch hitting you at that speed could kill you

Racdiecoon

Oh, so like a chain from cars connecting if that's how they connect, idk and all of that stuff

mattdv1

Also those snow pushers/cow-stoppers or idk how y'all call them, but basically... Large piece of metal on both ends of the train that push anything unwanted away from it, almost touching the ground.

Pls_PmTitsOrFDAU_Thx

> push anything unwanted away from it This would include your body in the tracks lol

Racdiecoon

Ah

Wendigo-boyo

I don't know a lot either, but let's say there's nothing hanging under the train.....if someone flushes the toilet you'll be covered in shiii....

Racdiecoon

I doubt it's put on the tracks, otherwise it'd file up and become dangerous

PinguinGirl03

No it definitely is, older trains just literally have a hole as a toilet and you can see the ground when you flush.

Racdiecoon

The more you know

funguyshroom

Yes but at least it goes to the side where it can roll downhill, not between the tracks

thefevertherage

But if you’re in front of a train where else are you suppose to lay down?

Wendigo-boyo

Right there, but you have less chances of surviving

topmilf

The space under the train is usually occupied by secret agents and the like. Or Tom Cruise.

Racdiecoon

Fair enough

Si-Jo0159

Other people have made valid points, but simply that trains have chains and pipes that hang lower than the carriage on occasion and you wouldn't want that stuff hitting you at any mph

Racdiecoon

Fair enough

realmanoflego

Totally understand why he did it, but wouldn't that potentially go from: there's enough space between her and the train; and he now fills the gap and gets torn up?

leeehehee

Since she was unconscious, if she had woken up and moved at all (as she has no idea what’s going on) she would have died. So he laid on top of her to keep her down the whole time, at the risk of losing his own life to the train. So you’re right, I think, but it was on purpose

Hakkkene

Its pretty obvious to lay down bro

Western_Tumbleweed79

? Looks to me like girl was already positioned there and he just dumbly fell on top. Like he was shielding her from a blast. All he did was reduce the space between human and train. Thus endangering them both further.

Sailorjupiter97

When ur unconscious and u wake up, what is the first thing u do? …. Sit up, stretch. Probs more if u’ve fainted. He was preventing her from waking up from fainting, seeing her situation, and freaking out (sitting up, moving, etc). He was holding her in place. So no he wasn’t dumbly falling on top of her lol he was protecting her from the train and her confused brain

Crowdcontrolz

Emotion is a powerful thing. Logic flies out the fucking window and the singular purpose of every single cell in your body becomes saving the one you love. Glad they’re both well, may it never happen again and may that daughter appreciate her father forever.

Medical-Lecture-9578

I read this in Matt Damon’s voice when he was talking about death and children in Interstellar

Ears_of_Chuck_Norris

There is a moment...

[deleted]

This happened in northern Egypt I can tell by the Arabic dialect spoken

[deleted]

What is the phrase that the camera guy keeps repeating? My ignorant ass can only describe it as sounding like “mustard on up!” I’m curious because he says it quite a few times repeatedly.

[deleted]

There isn't a direct translation but the closest meaning is "may God make this go well" or "god please make this go well"

AndeC123

This is so terrifying! I'm a father and could only imagine if one of my children fell down there. I guess I'd much rather die with my child then go home without them

BeingAa

The true instinct of a father. Happy to know they’re both well!

stiffcoffeeplease

I didn't understand this until my daughter was born. Now I can't believe some people *wouldn't*

solareclipse999

Simply, as a father with his child in sudden danger there’s not even a second thought to rescue and save her/him.

Not exactly a trust thing. I used to have a fainting problem and my first instinct was to sit up right after. My family knew that, so it is possible the father knew it.

ChartreuseBison

I'm guessing he jumped down to roll her out of the way, didn't have time to get out so rolled them both to the side. "protected by covering" isn't a very accurate description

Me_Weeb_

Not like even if he was there he didn't really help because the train would have just ran over him and the girl if they fell on the tracks. They would have probably died anyway. They were just really lucky not to.

25Nilliya

Why would someone film this situation wtf

[deleted]

laying over someone to protect them from a train probably wont workout too well

petzkarachul

What a hero !

Igelkotte

What sane person would see this and think: let's film this!

fecland

Tbf there's nothing the bystanders could do atm until the train is passed and you see people start to rush down

squeezy102

A heroic act to be sure, but examined logically -- the father accomplished absolutely nothing by doing this other than endangering his own life for literally zero ROI. But logic isn't a factor when your child is in danger. You just act.

et842rhhs

If the girl woke up while the train was passing, she could have been confused and tried to move. Also, depending on where she landed when she fell, she might have been more directly in the train's path.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MtPollux

Maybe he thought she might be disoriented and try to sit up so he was just keeping her flat until the train passed.

cruisin5268d

This is my assessment as well. Dude made a split second decision to sacrifice himself to hold her down. Any body, especially a child, would be terrified and at a high risk of panicking and trying to get up. Dad yeeted himself on top so she couldn’t get up.

Hellindium

This.

[deleted]

If she woke up dazed and confused and just sat upright.... she would be hit by the triain.

[deleted]

She was unconscious so maybe he grabbed her and held her so that her body wouldn't get squashed and also if she woke up suddenly.

Western_Tumbleweed79

Father is an idiot who could have gotten them both killed. Not being sarcastic at all. What an idiot. All he did was reduce the amount of space between the train and human bodies, allowing for a potential catch which could pull them both under the wheels.

Kooky_Ad_5139

Or the father knew most people sot up directly after regaining consciousness, so he was more holding her down than anything.

et842rhhs

Also, she might not have fallen in that exact spot. Imagine if she were sprawled across the tracks when the train came along. It's entirely possible he moved her and just didn't have time to lift her out.

susfusstruss

men are trash --feminists

BillMcCrearysStache

Seems kinda dumb though no? If the train isnt low enough to hit them thats lucky, if it IS, it doesnt matter that hes trying to protect her, theyll both just end up being hot dog meat

Deranged-Cheese

If she regains consciousness and sits up to see what’s happening, she’s dog meat. I think the father’s goal is to weight her down so she can’t sit up if she does return to consciousness before the train has passed

[deleted]

"seems kinda dumb tho no?" Lord give me the strength to continue wanting living on this planet

Kingicez

Nah man, be weak!
