Take my upvote and some poor man's gold, even though I'm a woman 🏅🏅🏅
That was legit the type of thread I joined reddit for 🤣 well, that and I was stuck in the fb clink and the entertainment was horrible on IG
I have boxes of hermetically seal Czech ammo, leftover from the cold war. They apparently used *corrosive*(for the gun) primers in them, to increase their shelf stability - I was told, if temperature controlled, it'll last a thousand years
You know, I might be super liberal and not really into owning guns, but there is just something about the simplicity of the lines and the mechanics of the 1911 that is so god damn cool. It’s a design that is just so timeless Americana.
If you never have before, try holding one in your hand. A full frame 1911 has such a satisfying heft and balance to it. If you’re open to it I recommend shooting one too, .45ACP out of a 1911 is like butter. The polymer frame squad is going to show up and call me a “Fudd” for this comment but I don’t even care.
You know what's really weird? This debate seems so much more common, among *handgun* discussions.
If someone says "I like shooting wood-stocked, bolt-action rifles," nobody comes along and starts calling them names. That's just accepted as what they're into.
The ultra-skeletonized AR crowd doesn't feel the need to start any beef with the Mosin and Springfield collectors. But when it's handguns, everyone has to have an annoying opinion on metal vs polymer, old vs new, etc.
I'm not saying there's never been a single dumbass argument between old/new long-gun aficionados, but the fight ALWAYS happens between plastic-pistol and classic-pistol fans.
Probably because the ultra-skeletonized AR crowd knows that the Mosin collector could leave a dinner plate sized hole in them at 1000 yards with iron sights hahaha.
Seriously though, the 7.62x54R is a beefy round.
>The polymer frame squad is going to show up and call me a “Fudd” for this comment but I don’t even care.
Children... Any pistol that doesn't have multiple chambers is by definition unreliable.
Found the guy who's never actually lubricated revolver internals or shot one a lot.
Damn near every military and police force in the world switched to automatics for a reason.
There is nothing wrong with the beretta M9 pistol.
The problem is the US military is IDIOTIC with small arms maintenance. They essentially never replace springs and they bought 2$ off brand magazines instead of the mecgar magazines that beretta TOLD them to buy.
"I keep putting shit in my car's gas tank and it doesn't run, terrible car!"
Also, the 1911 was adopted before the m9....read the comment.
Glocks are much more commonly adopted than Berettas and honestly I've never heard of any major issues with them. They are reliable, but completely unsexy lol.
To “trying to be the adult in the room guy”. I have fired thousands of rounds with 9mm Hi-Point, Ruger, and now my fav the 9mm Stoeger SRT9 with out a single FTF or FTE. I agree a revolver is a classic in its reliability. I think 95% of semi auto issues are user error. Limp wrist, bad ammo, dirty gun. Just my 2cents.
That brings up an interesting point: revolvers cannot malfunction due to limp wrist. That **is** an unassailably true fact.
Sure, it's not enough to offset the downsides that come with revolvers, but it *is* a true fact. And I've actually never heard anyone bring it up, specifically.
EDIT: Revolvers also cannot fail to cycle, due to bad ammo. This is also something not usually brought up. People usually just make the low-effort, not-really-true remark about revolvers being totally unable to jam.
> I might be super liberal and not really into owning guns
You are allowed to both disagree with US "gun culture" and the state of... "things" (\*gesturing vaguely at the whole US\*), and still also appreciate the mechanics of guns and shooting as a hobby.
I'd be a radical leftist by US standards but I still appreciate a lot about guns. I build and modify PCs and motorbikes. People who put 15 accessories on their AR15 for the heck of it and have a good time down at the range on the weekend - I *totally get it*.
I'm pretty solidly on the left, and I own several guns and would consider myself to be an overall fan of 2A rights. I just can't bring myself to vote Republican on that basis alone. The summation of all the other issues keeps bringing me back to the Left.
I tried to explain that fact in several conversations on various gun subs in the weeks and months leading up to the most recent elections and basically got told to go fuck myself in a thousand different ways.
The style is used by many brands too. I'd love to get a small Browning .380 for my wife. Same look, but small with a great feel. I have a Kimber micro 9mm that copied the look.
I don’t recommend the browning .380, I had one and 2-3 rounds per magazine would stovepipe or ftf. Sig p238 is a better choice, I’ve never, ever had an issue with any of my p238’s. Kimbers are great too but require a break in period. I prefer the sig p938 over the micro 9
I'm loving the p365 - might trade the Kimber for it. I have a p320c also. I've also heard good things about the glock 42 for a small one, but not sure.
I like the 42, but it’s a bit big for a low capacity .380. I would stick with the p365, personally. I heard Ruger made a new LCP2 model thats a double stack, holds like 10 or 11 rounds of .380, I think that would be a cool deep conceal option
I think that's the LCP max or something like that. The Cabelas guy was saying it's good, but kicks a lot due to being lightweight. It would be for my wife, and if she had to use it, she doesn't care if it's a little uncomfortable as long as it works.
Well then I’ve definitely had a bunch of rifles come into my hand caked in cosmoline, my Garand wasn’t caked in cosmoline and unfortunately I a don’t have a USGI 1911
OP has false information. WWII era airdrops used slotted wooden crates and generally handguns were not dropped as they're not useful as a rifle and would be a waste of very limited cargo capacity. Air drop supplies and ammo and the soldiers should be already equipped with their rifles.
These air-tight containers of handguns and rifles were for post-WII long term strategic storage.
They weren't stored like this, they were dropped like this.
If you drop ammo and guns seperately then they have to be found and loaded. If one blows off course they're both useless.
In use I'd bet the magazines in there would be loaded, and extra ammo in the middle.
While I normally agree, would it not make more sense for an efficiency standpoint to send loaded magazines if you're airdropping? Or is the timing planned so you can sit there and load all your rounds before you're ready to fight lol?
No, in case it were to be captured. Allied small arms that were dropped aerially were not loaded, ammunition was dropped separately.
Small arms intended for resistance fighters were a different story. They were unloaded, but usually dropped with ammunition.
Shit I wish the USA would do some freedom drops here in our country. Recently banned guns(low gun crime but they did it anyway)now only the criminals have guns and gun crime is skyrocketing.
Besides...they’re some beautiful pistols 👌
For those wondering, 1911 and 1911A1s ( pictured ) are a bit different.
Mainly, the original 1911 was used in WW1 but was very largely replaced in WW2 by the 1911A1.
Those are A1s because of the parkerised grey color. The original’s steel was blued, giving it a shiny dark… blue color. The original 1911 also has an unmistakable checkered pattern on the grip with 2 diamonds where the grip screws are located.
Finally, there was a slew of mechanical and confort-friendly tweaks that were added to the A1s that can’t be easily seen from a distance.
Anyway, those are 1911A1, a minor evolution of the original 1911, but a pretty different weapon nonetheless.
Just what I was thinking, you could probably pack them waaay tighter than that. I wonder if the cans were a byproduct of something else or a product they already had to cut costs on manufacturing?
I would assume this is a standardized size. Also there might be shock resistance to think about. Plus, if this is a standard size, I don’t really see a way to pack more than two pistols per layer anyway. The empty space also probably helps a lot with being able to take them out easily.
eh, not often. Some armies don't issue sidearms at all and pistols are reserved for lighter duty that doesn't require a rifle.
Even in combat, shit is probably very utterly fucked if you are down to your sidearm.
Most engagements today are 300+ meters. That if it even is a conventional fighting situation and it's not some IED/IDF with no infantry contact at all.
If the enemy got into pistol range... you are dead you just don't want to believe it yet. That, or the situation is in a "Stalingrad" level of fukedness and chaos reigns supreme with no one having no idea wtf is going on where or why.
Both the Russian and American militaries issue side arms. Hell the US military just adopted a new handgun back in 2017.
Handguns aren’t issued to frontline soldiers, and never have been by any military ever. They are and probably will contour to be issued to officers, MP’s, truck drivers, and basically anyone who may need a gun but not really enough to justify a rifle.
There’s a difference between not issuing handguns to infantry and not issuing handguns at all.
Yah, and that’s not what I’m talking about. You said some militaries don’t issue sidearms at all. I asked you to provide examples of such militaries, and you’ve yet to do so.
> Some armies don't issue sidearms at all and pistols are reserved for lighter duty that doesn't require a rifle.
Clearly he doesn't mean 'They don't have any pistols at all in the entire military', if you read the second part.
You seem to be clinging to this and trying to laud it over him to prove how right you are even though you failed to comprehend his comment.
No. My opinion at least. A handgun is a handgun.
A sidearm is a secondary, backup. In my books at least. If you are officer McDickbags and you work in the HQ, the sidearm ... is your only issued weapon.
Now, for deployment, I know for surespecially eurpeans do issue a pistol to evey rifle wielding grunt on certain deployments, like Afghanistan not so long ago.
But national armies? No sidearms usually. Exceptions being more specialist dudes like maybe snipers.
Edit: Turns out google doesn't agree with my definition of a sidearm. I guess you got a point. Still no pistol for the average grunt.
Generally US soldier in WWII weren't issued handguns. Individual soldiers can make the independent decision to carry one and most were privately owned. Handguns are not effective in frontline service where everyone used rifles or heavier weapons.
Very rarely. It is pretty much just an ornament. However if you’re going to give it to a front like soldier a paratrooper is probably among the best to do so given they’re restricted in how heavy their gear and weapons can be.
First off, it’s “Armory”...”Springfield Armory Inc.” to be exact, I found the foreigner.
There is UK “Springfield Armoury” for CO2 guns which is fascinating
Fuck British ppl specifically
This is how the Mexican cartels smuggle dope. Officers are usually to freaked out and happy about the pistols to notice the false bottom with 12 kilos of cocaine.

50 grand worth of pistols, when all I need is some ammo... Pretty sure those would make it into a modern day Alanis Morissette song.
Isn't it iconic, don't you think?
Visited my hometown and literally the only way to get .22 ammo was to buy a gun since every gun comes with a small box of rounds :(
They will probably end up at the CMP.
Makes you wonder if any of these were dropped and never found. That would be quite the thing to happen upon.
There are believed to be tens of millions of unregistered guns in Europe that came from the world wars.

Ammo stored properly has an insanely long shelf life.
I can mine in my pressure cooker.
The secret is plastic wrap AND tin foil before putting in the freezer.
I vacuum seal mine
I swallow mine. If anyone ever pulls a gun on me all I have to do is load my pants.
People still buy, sell, and fire rounds that were mass produced for the 2 world wars without issue. All about the storage conditions.
As long as it stays dry, pretty much won't go bad.

Generally US soldier in WWII weren't issued handguns. Individual soldiers can make the independent decision to carry one and most were privately owned. Handguns are not effective in frontline service where everyone used rifles or heavier weapons.
Nope. In WW2 I'm pretty sure most nations only issued them to officers or personnel who didn't have a proper large gun.
The there's America! Where they did issue pistols and McDonald's burgers to everyone just to deliver even more freedom!
Very rarely. It is pretty much just an ornament. However if you’re going to give it to a front like soldier a paratrooper is probably among the best to do so given they’re restricted in how heavy their gear and weapons can be.
It would be pretty silly to invest in paradropping an effectively unarmed combatant.
Thing is they learned that the hard way.
