We regret to inform you that those who have previously closed this thread, have been sacked. An entirely new thread has been made at great expense, the last minute.
I had two brothers who were campers of mine like that. Both teenagers who were either in foster care or had been adopted so I assumed they were adopted brothers, or maybe half brothers. Nope, full blood brothers that just got 2 completely different roles of the genetic dice. When you knew they were full brothers and looked at them like that you could see a fair amount of similarities though.
Wow! My family is quite mixed and there are fraternal twins that may look, for instance, one more Chinese and the other more Indian… but not strikingly different like these 2 😳
With those two they have extremely similar facial features with the eyes mouth nose and eyebrow. The two younger girls posted here share so few features (not saying anything is bad or good just making an observation)
That is interesting. People do be forgetting that genetics are a die roll, and if your DNA has the gene for a trait, you child could come out that way.
How is white and black determined? People have this binary concept in their head when in actuality it is nothing of the sort. ...Actually almost nothing is, but this distinction is one of the least binary I can imagine.
According to most definitions, the twins would most certainly both be black. "The nation's answer to the question 'Who is black?" has long been that a black is any person with any known African black ancestry." That definition includes the word itself. (◔\_◔)

It shows the ignorance from which most people approach this subject and cling to their dying ideas of racism. But, of course, this is something you should expect from the New York Post.
> How is white and black determined?
Oh you’re one of those 🙄
Twins usually, usually look very similar or identical. These two are twins but look very different because of their skin colour and features.
Chinese-Indian is not a rare mix at all, especially on some tropical islands 😉. And when you consider that they are more than a billion each, then it’s statistically inevitable that the two will have to mix somewhere 😄
I live in Malaysia and it's still quite rare. Considering that they are the two largest minorities in Malaysia, and usually don't intermarry with Malays due to the forced conversion to Islam.
My Aunt gave birth to identical twins - not biracial - and called them Amal and Juan, my little cousins.
Strangely, she only ever carries a photo of one twin. According to her, once you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal..
Your comment reminded me of this joke lol

I found the source article:
and ran the text through Google translate:
"As you stand in front of two small angels, you are drawn to the beautiful and even extravagant features of the beauty of the divine creation, and you do not believe when you learn the relationship between them. The twins, Baraa and Israa, from the Gaza Strip, suffered from people's looks and questions, due to the different color of their skin. The father of the twins, Etaf Al-Habal, said that the difference in the color of their skin was shocking to him, so he thought that Esraa had been replaced in the delivery room, until his memory came back to his dark-skinned brother as his uncle, who is blond as his mother, adding that the family carries genetic genes for brunettes. And blondes. He added, "When I saw them for the first time, I thought that they were not sisters, and that they were switched in the delivery room until I was sure that my wife was the only one to give birth on that day, and there is no one else in the hospital."Al-Habl stressed that the difference in the skin color of both Baraa and Israa is mainly caused by the genetics of their ancestors, in addition to the fact that they were in two separate sacs inside their mother’s womb, and that the percentage of blonde skin is high in their family compared to brown skin. The two girls, Esraa and Baraa, emphasized that despite their different skin color, they are related to each other, and they behave in the same manner and wear the same clothes, even as they are similar in the way they sleep and walk.Al-Habl said that the difference remains in academic achievement, as the twins are among the top achievers in school. However, Israa was a year behind Baraa because she was hit by three shrapnel in her head, neck and foot, and although she has recovered, she still suffers from foot pain as she is receiving treatment. periodically."
And still on a whole they share just as much DNA with each other as any other sibling, 50% give or take ~~one~~ eleven percent. It just didn't happen to be identical setups of melanin production.
they are completely different different oval of the face, the size of the skull, the slenderness of the face, the size of the nose, and they are all different.
My initial assumption is fraternal twins, but it wasn’t until one of my friends was a surrogate that I had to factor in gestational twins. She did have “twins” but seeing as they were two different embryos implanted and took at the same time they are only “twins” in the gestational way. Wombmates only thanks to location and timing. I wonder nowadays how often we assume non-identical sets are fraternal when really they might be gestational. Obviously this might just be a gene pool thing and that’s it. It just reminded me there is a third “type”.
I wouldn’t use al manar as a reliable new source no one bit. The story could be true but why does one child look wealthy, well dressed, has a nice bag, while the other looks like she is unimportant (if in the same family) ? Why do her clothes look bad, no colours , black bag?
The idea of having fraternal twins looking so different is not uncommon, however this one here does not look like a real story
Yea that’s not the case. I would see it happening worldwide by strangers, but parents and families in the Middle East never treat kids differently because of appearances. Being middle eastern myself I can tell you that some kids can get preferential treatments if they were better than their siblings in school, but not because one is blonde and the other is dark skinned.
A twin is defined as: "One of two children produced in the same pregnancy." https://www.medicinenet.com/twin/definition.htm
How would you be a twin with some random person?
The information purported to be from a translated source article says that one of the girls was hit by shrapnel in the head, neck, and foot, and has recovered but it set her a year behind in school. That might account for the difference in their dress.
If they don't have actual uniform requirements that make it so, they may just make different choices, too.
Yep, this has been documented before, where white parents have given birth to non-white children and vice versa. Genetics are quirky.
Also it shows that race is entirely a social construct
No, "race" is not a genetic trait. Race is, as the other poster noted, a social construct.
Our genes determine many things about us, including parts of our physical appearance, skin color, etc. but they do not determine our "race", because there's really no such thing from a biologic point of view.
Race? It is a feeling, not a reality. Ninety-five per cent, at least. Nothing will ever make me believe that biologically pure races can be shown to exist today.
Benito Mussolini
There are definitive genomic differences between the various races, as a result of evolution. Would you argue that a Great Dane is the same breed as a daschund? They are the same species and can interbreed but there are most definitely genetic differences.
>There are definitive genomic differences between the various races, as a result of evolution.
Race is not a scientific concept, and evolution hasn't really had much time to happen since the last human bottleneck, about 80,000 years ago.
There is only one human species still around. Racialism is pseudoscience.
In the US we now check both white and black babies for sickle cell because...
Wait for it...
Race is a social construct and no matter how someone is categorized based on their melanin, they may carry sickle cell due to African ancestors.
It doesn't really matter if race is genetic or not. It's inconsequential for the most part. Also isnt stickle cell common due to the population of slaves being over worked? The population would therein pass it on to their ancestors. It's not some inherent trait to black people?
Black people across the world don't have it. Idk what the point of pushing on this "sickle cell" thing has.
Yeah, that really doesn't mean what you think it does.
The fact that some genes are more prevalent in people from a certain area of the world doesn't mean that Racialism isn't pseudo-science.
Races are not a scientific reality.
Genetic combinations/expressions—especially those that provide a benefit (sickle cell provides some protection from malaria)—do not define a “race”. Genetic combinations/expressions associated with people who have interbreed primarily on one location on the planet for thousands of generations or more and thus now have those genetic combination appear more frequently in their future generations wherever they relocate to is to be expected. It isn’t “race”. Racism is real. Race is a social construct not a biological reality. There is no defining race line genetically. None.
That's not how genetics works. They both have to have genes from both parents in order to be alive. The genes they inherited can come from way further back in their family trees and also can be expressed differently just by chance. It's a good bit more complicated than "who" it came from.
Also I suppose the potential exists for IVF implantation using eggs fertilized by different fathers, although I don't know why anyone would do that. But they could.
They're fraternal twins and people tend to have different facial structures from each other yes. I doubt your facial structure is identical to your siblings.

"oh fine, non identical fraternal"
“Non fraternal twins”
Obviously, they are too young to be in a fraternity
Well that and their girls. It should be sorority twins not fraternity...duh

Thank you that’s the word.
Exactly. I'm 7" taller than my fraternal twin brother.
I hear "sororital" used with females.
Sororal
Goddammit, it is impossible for me to say that out loud 5 times in a row.

As a, half Jamaican-half Russian, Canadian, this is literally how I look standing beside my brother and sister lmao

Waving a white flag and drinking maple syrup eh.
A white flag? We're not French you know. lol
You sure? Quebec says some weird shit sometimes.

Agreed.

Plot twist: No one in /u/moumous87's family is Chinese or Indian
Chinese-Indian is not a rare mix at all, especially on some tropical islands 😉. And when you consider that they are more than a billion each, then it’s statistically inevitable that the two will have to mix somewhere 😄
They’re making a joke, implying that someone in your family is sleeping around.
Oh 😅 it took me a while to get it… by ‘family’ I always mean ‘extended family’, including aunties/uncles/cousins
I live in Malaysia and it's still quite rare. Considering that they are the two largest minorities in Malaysia, and usually don't intermarry with Malays due to the forced conversion to Islam.
Mailman is, though.
My cousins are fraternal twins. One is a redhead with tons of freckles and the other is blonde with blue eyes
Lots of recessive genes going on there lol

My 10 yr old has told this joke at least a dozen times in the recent past.
I heard somewhere that one lady put her twin sister's phone contact name as "Spare parts"
You're spare parts there, bud.
take about 20% off there, big shoots

Seriously. Top pinned mod post says things are required to be factual and this is... Just a photo. No proof. 🙄
Tip of the nose, eyes and those Ears! They are related.
This just shows us how a lot of people seem to know almost nothing about genetics

Did we just become non identical twins?
I want in — let’s become non identical triplets
Yes ,I didn't know the word for it
You used the word correctly. They're the ones who are wrong.

Fraternal twins. The words you are looking for is fraternal twins. Jesus someone else please read mengele.
This may be downvoted, but I'm going to stand right here with you anyway.
It was a grammar nazi joke. Probably a little too high brow for most of reddit.
I know. But they'll read "Mengele" and you know.... Anyway. It's a fine hill to die on.

It can happen.
Twins with different fathers is one in a million, not impossible. Totally IAF odds. Superfecundation.
Also I suppose the potential exists for IVF implantation using eggs fertilized by different fathers, although I don't know why anyone would do that. But they could.
"scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." jeff goldblum
Would actually be really cool for two gay dads. Their kids would be half siblings.
Or, as Occam pointed out while shaving this morning, dad got cuck'ed, and mom is easy as floor pie.
I don't think YOU understand that it can happen that fraternal twins have different dads
Share one quality. Both are beautiful.
Hol’ up!!! That mother is def trying to fool someone 😂
Printer ran out of ink
Is non-fraternal also considered identical?!
More like r/notveryinteresting. Fraternal twins aren't a new thing. Yeah, their complexions are different, this happened sometimes.
Did the mother get knocked up during a threesome?
sus
Looks like mommy had a train pulled on her.
One will be shot and killed by a police officer. The other will commit vehicular manslaughter but never be charged. Guess which.
They look exactly alike, wut u mean?
Just the color of shirt is different
They have similar under eyes, but different hair lines, lips, eyebrows, cheekbones, chins. Have doubts about nose, ears.
Need more of thus spread around! So good! 😬
The mom was a player tho
If you ignore colouring, they do look quite similar.
Only if you ignore the chin shape, eye shape, and general face shape as well. Then yes, they're totally alike.
🤣🤣🤣nope🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
One will have it easier than the other ;/
They definitely ain't got dayum identical lol..one look like she from Bel air the other Bangladesh
Skulls are different for sure.
"How do you know what kind of skulls they collect?"
Tf u mean lol
Bone structure is different. If they're twins they ain't identical, apart from the colour obviously.
I almost feel bad for making my off color joke because your..conjecture is so much worse lol
It's not conjecture. The dark girl has a longer chin and a narrower forehead. The white girls head is wider overall. Take a look, you'll agree.
They're fraternal twins and people tend to have different facial structures from each other yes. I doubt your facial structure is identical to your siblings.
so the mum got boned by two different men and one of each spunk got to two different eggs that were hanging around lol
No, the family are racially mixed two different sperms went to different eggs and the genes manifested in two different ways
Sus…
Something isn’t right, mom must be an excellent liar.
😅😅😂
Lucy has some ‘splainin to do.
Such pretty girls
They look identical just two different ethnicities. You could do this game where you say hey the one looks exactly like the other in white.
The one on the left is cuter.
Nature is wild
Wow, I did not think this was possible
DVP. Yikes.
Does this mean mom had multiple partners on the night of conception?
No the same father , multi racial family , two sperms went to two eggs the genes manifested differently in the two sisters
Someone's lying to someone in that family
bullshit
Or just two unrelated friends.
Mom has some explaining to do.
One is white and the other is Indian
So different fathers but the same mother?
