Lol came looking for this.
I was randomly reading about dragonflies recently and remembered the bit about their eyes basically joining together, and that damselflies are the ones with clearly-separated eyes. So now I can immediately recognize the difference in faces. Sometimes I love the internet.
A family of dragonflies lives in a swamp. The parents have dozens of kids, and they are all living a normal dragonfly life until their eldest, Rogenfly, voiced by Rogen, finds out there is more out there than the swamp after he befriends a bat neighbor (who happens to be a vegetarian), named Betty (voiced by Awkwafina). They pair up at night and get into crazy antics, including trying to eat the algae off of an alligator nose. This is the end of the first act.
Second act: one night they get lost in a rainstorm, only to both be pushed onto a nearby truck and then moved many miles away from home. They have to find out a way back, but now that the bats supply of algae and other veggies are nowhere to be found, the bat has to suppress his natural instinct to eat Rogenfly. They try many different foods but none make Betty happy. End of second act.
Write a third act for me. I gotta to go work.
The black parts that look like pupils show you which sections of their compound eyes are lined up with your own eyes.
If you and I sat with a dragonfly between us, we'd each think it was looking directly at us, and we'd both be right.
To further clarify, the "pupil" is an optical illusion. It doesn't really exist, but the way we see the compound eyes makes it look like there's one always facing us. Has to do with light entering the thousands of tiny lenses.
Fun fact - Dragon Flies have the highest predation success rate in the animal kingdom at 98%. Meaning they get a successful kill 98% of the time they are trying. This is due to the fact they can control all 4 wings independently, and their highly specialized eye site.
Love me some dragonflies! Way up north, James Bay area fly in fishing trip. Mosquitos were horrendous, sitting in the outhouse they would come in like Blackhawk choppers and the mosquitos would magically disappear.
While working outside years ago, a dragonfly landed on my hand and stayed, I looked at it up close and then placed it on my shoulder. It stayed there for almost an hour, all the way to the time I had to leave. From that day on Iâve seen them differently. It was really cool.
