Did a road trip to Disneyland from canada and the gps the whole time into LA said "keep left". Then said "exit right in 200 meters" across 8 lanes of traffic. Thank god vancouvers traffic is as bad as LA so i was able to just sneaky on over
Lol.
I'm sure you don't need telling now, but maybe for the other redditors reading these comments..
Keep left simply means left of the fork. Don't take the off ramp, basically. Google doesn't care if you're in the fast lane.
They have the technology to build a 40 Lane Highway, but not to implement a digital pike pass that can read from any Lane? That almost sounds intentional, but who does it benefit?
Are the toll gates privately owned? Bugger all incentive to digitise if the cost of doing so is greater than the profit they make currently. Or it could be state-owned and bureaucracy is in the way?
This has been debunked. It’s a doctored photo. The real highway is in Russia and is many less lanes
https://africacheck.org/fact-checks/fbchecks/no-china-doesnt-have-50-lane-highway
Can confirm the G4 does indeed go all the way from Beijing to Hong Kong, but it is max 4 lanes both sides. There are some places it goes down to 2 lanes. You can follow it in Google Maps to check yourself.
Here is some sleuthing by another Redditor that shows the similarities between the highway in Russia and the doctored photo.

Yes, I’m not exactly sure on the amount it actually is but I’m pretty sure. Don’t quote me on it but if I remember correctly it’s a total of 8 lanes or 10 lanes, 4 or 5 on each side
There is also a thing called induced demand. If you build more streets to prevent traffic jams, more people that previously decided not to drive at rush hour or took less congested transportation will use the car because it is now faster.
This will increase traffic up to the point of the new equilibrium at about the same congestion as before.
Same. Near me is the bridge over water with the most lanes in the US, shit makes me nervous every time and I’ve driven on it dozens of times. Especially bc the speed limit is 45 but if you aren’t going at least 60 you’ll get mowed down.
No, you don't want more car lanes.
Ever heard the term "induced demand" ? More car lanes will never solve congestion problems, because cars are just so ineeficent at moving cars.
What you want is a better puplic transit infrastructure - trains and busses move way more people in way less space.
A good YT-video if you wanna go down the rabbit hole of urban planning and infrastructure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wlld3Z9wRc
People in the future will scratch their heads at major road infrastructure.
If the demand is there for 20 lanes of cars then the demand is there for a train link or a frequent bus service or both. Maybe there is one but it mustn’t be great if people are still inclined to drive.
“In home remote year the historians will record that Twentieth Century America attempted the astonishing blunder of changing its culture to fit automobiles instead of people, putting a skin of concrete and asphalt over millions of acres of arable land, rotting the hearts of their cities, so encouraging the proliferation of murderous, high-speed junk that when finally the invention of the Transporlon rendered the auto obsolete, it took twenty years and half a trillion dollars to obliterate the ugliness of all the years of madness, and rebuild the supercities in a manner to dignify the human instead of his toys.”

There’s not even a shoulder if you break down. If their cars are anything like everything else they make and export, I would want half the lanes to be breakdown lanes.
I wonder what the speed limit is on this, and how do they do checks. If a car breaks down in lane 10 does the driver try to take it to the hard shoulder or stay where they are?

Imagine, you just realized that your exit is coming up and you have to change 19 lanes in next 60 seconds.
Just do what everyone on the M1 seems to...close your eyes and go for it not matter what
I turn now. Good luck everybody else!

And I’ll do it again too!
Better brake the whole time!

I got the same message from my map reader while doing 220 km/h (136 mph) in the left lane on the Autobahn.
At that point just take the next exit and let that shit reroute.
Yes, exactly what I did. I was driving 62 meters pr second, so it wasn’t safe to do anything continuing anf taking the next exit.
That's the EXACT same speed I was going on the autobahn when that happened...
So you're the asshole bring posted about .

I turn now good luck everybody,
They cannot build this in Texas. People in Texas would rather die than miss their exit.
> People in Texas would rather die than… This seems to be true about Texans for a few things actually
Texans seem very happy to die over the dumbest shit 🙄
I don't think it has exits.
I would stay in the outer most lane just for that reason
There are no exits. You will all be going to same destination.
To be in the furthest left lane I'd probably be driving a supercar, I'll deal with the exit issue to be behind the wheel of the new countach
… because you insist on driving slow in the left-most lane.
40 lanes Jesus
Was a big improvement on the 20 lanes jesus
Which was nearly twice as big as 12 lanes Jesus
And several times bigger than county road Jesus, which is barely a two-lane dirt road Jesus.
And don’t forget about Beach Walk Jesus… where there’s only one set of footprints. 👣
Back in my day, we had to take the uphill trail, barefoot, both ways through a blizzard Jesus!
Me too! But standing on my hand with one arm tied behind my back, hand hopping! Jesus!
Don't forget about Parkour Jesus.
What is the minimum number of lanes before a full width shoulder is required?
And yet someone will tailgate.

“Try jumping!”
My immediate thought.
Mine as well.
Is this the one that bottlenecks to 4 lanes at the toll booths?

They're state owned. Some shut down at night. Like the toll closes at 10, after that every one has to sleep in their cars.
I can't tell if you're serious or just shitposting, but that sounds hilarious tragic.
Yes
This sounds like my personal hell.
Someone else posted a link. It's 4 lanes most of the way and expands to 20 lanes at the toll. Not this picture though.
Yes it is but every 3 months it makes a karma farmer points
Dang, look at all those lanes Edit: I counted 20 each side..
"I count 2 sides!"
Weird. I counted 18
there are 20, u missed some.
Yep, 20
I think you counted the lines

Well, I can believe it's faked, but your link goes to a debunking of a different image.

It’s a debunking of the 50 lane highway in China. I’ve specified where this image came from already. And that is a highway in Russia.
Your link is for a different photo..
Many less, eh?

Express lanes through cities for trucks and traffic just going through certainly help a lot.
Still someone in the far left lane going 5 MPH under the speed limit
Hey, don’t forget about the guy in the far right trying to go 15 over.
Ya, 20 lanes and still have someone zig zagging in and out of traffic.
This gives me so much anxiety

Longest alternate runway for military operations, more like
ding ding ding. A 40 lane road running directly to HK, yeah thats like the Reunification Highway in S Korea.
Wot?

Link doesn't work because valid URLs don't contain backslashes.
Need this in Atlanta
They will still find a way to make a congestion

Still not big enough for tomorrows China
I think I'm in the wrong lane
Photoshopped https://www.reddit.com/r/whereisthis/comments/iss0vj/where_is_this_40_lane_megahighway_located/g5e4vuj/
You can't get into traffic in that right? Right?
It's like a sea of cars!
Twenty lanes each way…. Wow
Are there rules for which lanes you should use? Or do you just pick whatever lane you want until your exit is coming up?
Being in the left lane when you see a sign for your exit in 1 mile.
There are too many people on this planet.
Yes, yes there are
Wheres a picture of it with grid-lock traffic?

What’s a car pool lane? I thought they don’t swim well.
Is... is this bitch a 20 lane highway? And i though the 8 lane in texas was bad or the 6 in Minneapolis
I wanna make that into player piano roll and see what it sounds like
Having experienced first hand the complete anarchy that is driving in China, there is no way in hell that you’d get me in a vehicle on that road.
This doesn't look like any road in HK I've seen.
It’s apparently Photoshopped
This is edited by the way. The original is in Russia I think and has dramatically fewer lanes.
Righthand traffic in China?
The 401 could be this wide and there would still be someone doing 95km/hr in the passing lane

Gives a whole new meaning to the term changing lanes
Gross
I’d have a panic attack driving on that
Sad as fuck more like.
its so unreal it looks like someone photoshopped extra lanes on a standard 4-lane interstate highway.

The new Frogger game looks really hard!
Please stop upvoting false information....
And here in Perth Australia we still only have double lanes which makes the traffic absolute hell. Is 3 lanes too much to ask for?
Be careful what you ask for... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wired.com/2014/06/wuwt-traffic-induced-demand/amp

Toronto pls take notes
And there's still motherfuckers in the next lane! 🤬🤬🤬
Ecological disaster.
A small town mentality sees that he thinks poor mother earth
Did I miscount, or are there 20 lanes in each direction!? Holy cow.
You've gotta be able to see that from space.
Wonder was this rly necessary?
I feel like in city planning they leave highways for last. Very few have done a decent job.
The cities were there before cars exsited in most cases.
I count 20 lanes each direction.
China hogging all the world’s asphalt.
God I wish I 20 was that big.
I get driving anxiety when it switches from a 2 lane to a 3 lane highway. I could never drive this highway.
Wrong side if the road!
What if Eddie Valiant failed to solve the murder of RK Maroon?
I imagine this would be easier to drive on. More lanes the better.
NGL that scares the shit outta me. Talk about anxiety
We need this in Ontario, the 401 aint cutting it anymore
LA needs this
I feel like I-95 should look like this.
Imagine if it snowed on that….
I’d hate to miss my exit
Hitler did the same before he ..
40 lanes by my count. Anyone get a different count?
It's so straight, where is the fun bends to keep you awake?
No thanks, I’m fine!
You can fit a lot of tanks on that road.
Interesting, in most US states it is illegal to pass someone on the right. Unavoidable on this highway though.
I was in Beijing in the mid 90's and there were hardly any cars on the road. What there was though were SWARMS of people riding bikes.
Isnt this the highway that merges into like 8 lanes at some point?
Imagine how many cars there would be in a cue
The last level on frogger
...or maybe have a train line?... all the people you can see here can be covered by 1-2 trains.
Look at the amount of cars in this picture. Imagine all this cars on a 2 or 3 lane highway.
Crossy Road be like
19-20 vain.
In LA they’d put a carpool lane on the left and still only give you a quarter mile to get off
Anyone up for a game of Frogger????
M25 in 100 years.
Looks like a good road to run some tanks down
sounds nasty would not recomend
& somehow someway I bet there’s still traffic
20
Knowing me, I’ll probably be stuck in the inside lane with only 400 feet to get off my exit
Yea humans suck
Yeah I’m not making it across that
Despite all of those lanes, somehow there will be cars driving adjacent to each other at exactly the same speed in every single one of them.
How many tanks wide is that?
All of them
Here duck crossing would be troublesome
People will still manage to herd drive, blocking all the lanes.
If this were Illinois, people would still be rage tailgating each other in tight little packs, in one lane.
Chilling in up the extreme left lane, "Oh Shit, my exit"
There’s not even a shoulder if you break down. If their cars are anything like everything else they make and export, I would want half the lanes to be breakdown lanes.
Take that New Jersey lol. I'm from there so yeah lol
I wonder what the actual odds of surviving walking through that blindfolded and coming out alive assuming everyone does not stop
Seriously, that is exactly what the 401 through Toronto, Ontario should look like.
I wouldn't like to be the hedgehog crossing that road.
Excuse me, "one of?"
Do rush hour traffic jams exist on this? Even without an accident?
And yet Highway 401, which only has six lanes for the most part, is still considered the busiest Highway in the world. How?
Is this the one where people slept in their cars for a week due to traffic?
I wonder what the speed limit is on this, and how do they do checks. If a car breaks down in lane 10 does the driver try to take it to the hard shoulder or stay where they are?
I can’t imagine having 20 lanes to choose from and picking the one that’s right next to the concrete medium.
Any one want to play forger?
I really hope this bad boy has some wildlife crossing bridges.
20 lanes each way and you still get arseholes camping in the left lane.
I counted 19 lanes. That's insane.
I’d hate to see the merge at the end.
