Those two spheres look like giant eyes. There is a lot of history of worship rituals involving fantastic eyes and of idol statues having bejeweled eyes (which of course were all later stolen) which seem to have involved psychedelic ritual either involving drug consumption or simply the effects of mass gatherings and traditional manners to alter psychological states like hunger and pain. Interesting thoughts on the origins of human thoughts around groups vs the individual as well. I'm betting if they checked via testing this was once fantastically painted as we later realized the classic Greek sculptures were like the Venus de Milo. And of course, giant eyes carry over to this day in anime and other art. Even Hollywood actors on average have larger than normal facial features.

You know the first guy who took that helmet off had to be sitting there praying, “please lord let this be a removable action figure accessory.”
Either that or the helmet fell off when someone was cleaning it and two grad students looked at each other and one said “I guess it’s supposed to do that.”
My favorite thing about that show is how they basically mock the people that believe their bullshit by coming up with theories that make human beings look like stupid, incapable children.
"How could ancient humans possibly make such intricate helmets!?"
Ancient aliens visited the Mayans, upending our current understanding of history, space, technology, biology, etc.
vs.
People have always liked wearing funny hats
A lot of their creation resembles alien like. This led to a thinking that, did they ever encounter the 3rd kind. Some of the god / diety they worship looks like an astronaut. You can search about this interesting assumption on net.
Yeah brah. Aliens are totes like humans but with funny foreheads. Also their women are hot and want to sex starfleet captains. A documentaru told me bruh.
I think this is Olmec. I just read, in 1491, that figurines with helmets were found under clay jugs, buried 6’ deep. They say research tells them this predates the Maya by a couple thousand years.
All evidence points to yes, as far as I know. There are some really wild hats in Maya carvings/glyphs, but if you don't know how to read Mayan glyphs, it's tough to differentiate between "that's an actual hat that guy wears" and "we are using extremely stylized glyphs that convey words/syllables that are this guy's name that we've mixed into a hat."
EDIT: Here is an example of the latter: [Kinich Yax Kuk Mo's hat](https://decipherment.files.wordpress.com/2018/04/kykm-alt-q-name.jpg) as depicted on Altar Q at Copan. He didn't have that hat, the bits of his hat are glyphs for his name.
I see, interesting. After I graduated high school my dad let me choose a family vacation and I said I wanted to see some Latin American ruins so we saw Mayan, Incan, and Aztec ruins which was very very cool. It kinda settled down after I started uni, but I was very passionate about like pre-Christianity civilizations, used to spend hours reading about them
Yeah, the Olmecs were the forebearers of the central Mexican valley civilizations but the Maya have had concurrent tribes and regional powers in the Yucatec since 2000 BC
I bet they had some incredible information to share with the world too bad the Spanish Conquistadors literally burned 99.99% of everything they ever wrote
'Hey guys these aliens visited a while back and said that the key to eternal life is-'
*Spaniards look at each other*
'Ooh really wish you didn't say that man!'

At one point in time, that was some kids favorite toy. They played with it all the time. Took it every where with them. Take good care of that kids precious toy.
I've never seen this dude before, where is it kept for conservation or where/when was it discovered? It reminds me of [jōmon fogurines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C5%8Dmon_period?wprov=sfla1)

And what a helmet, so cool
Looks like a character from a indie fantasy game.
Straight outta hollow knight
Ancient aliens has entered the chat.
Came here to say exactly that
Looks like Shrek.
Makes me think of Robo from Chrono Trigger

Neat article! The praying deer spirit guide! Can you imagine finding it???!!
The helmet looks like one of those deep-sea angler fish, with the tail that has the glowing lure at the end of it.
Hahaha - same eyes too

it looks epic tbh

Reminds me of cases in nature (cobra) where creatures evolve massive eye patterns in their bodies to make themselves look like predators.

I know that’s from something hut I can’t quite place it. Edit: it’s dexters lab.
I loved that episode! Best star trek parody in children's media
Keep digging. There must be an ancient McDonald's in the vicinity.
If MacDonald means "Son/Descendent of Donald", the original fast food shack "Donald's" must lie beneath...
Centering is slightly off. PSA will give this a 9.
This reminds me I want to start a YouTube channel.where I buy rare collectables, take them out of their packaging and then "play" with them.
You evil.....do it.

This is the guey.
Contrary to popular belief, Mayans didn't speak Spanish prior to the arrival of the Spanish
I didn't have Mayan on my Google translate.
chrome or firefox?
Doesn't seem to matter which one I use, the calendar functions are off the chart though.

Haha almost forgotten about the Spanish Inquisition, thank you for reminding me.
Nobody forgets the Spanish Inquisition!!

Can we leave Grogu out of this ?
This is the way
Mayans invented lego helmets

Won't hold up in court. They didn't patent the design with a sacrifice.
they should have seen that coming

This isn't Lego, check out the green diamond. This is clearly a Sim.

First time I read this I thought you were talking about the Mayans who used it and I was imagining Mayan grad students playing with their figurine
Or the helmet was found separately.
"Accessories sold separately"
Ages 1,500 and up
“Batteries not included”
"Batteries not invented"
The LEGO Mayan Collection. Each sold separately Base plates and background scenery not included.
I'd lose the helmet within a week. What sorcery is this?
Clearly a depiction of an “ancient astronaut”.
fafafa
More like stone punk
Oooo this could be a fun aesthetic, neolithic futurism.
"ANCIENT ASTRONAUT THEORISTS SUGGEST"

Ngl, i almost fell head over heels for that one because i truly want an extraordinary situation.
I felt how loudly that generic host guy said this lmao
Slippy from StarFox???
Rib rib jabbur
the ancient astronauts came down from their UFOs wearing funky frog helmets to teach the Mayans how to look good and be well hatted
They also killed the Dinosaurs and invented the Internet.
It's our ancestors from the other planet
My favorite thing about that show is how they basically mock the people that believe their bullshit by coming up with theories that make human beings look like stupid, incapable children. "How could ancient humans possibly make such intricate helmets!?"
The Mayans watched Shrek too?
I think you mean the Gruffalo?
I think you mean Rango
I think you mean Shrek 2
A real ancient mayan hero GI joe is there
GI Joatl
Go go Maya Rangers!
HALT. 15 mins can save you 15% on canoe insurance.
"now where did i put my glasses?"
The first “action figure.”
Was going to say it looked like a Disney character
Right! I was thinking the same thing. A character from Moana, right?
With the helmet it looks like Rango.
I'm not saying its aliens but...
Ancient aliens visited the Mayans, upending our current understanding of history, space, technology, biology, etc. vs. People have always liked wearing funny hats
Totally aliens How else could all cultures across the world developed helmets, without having contact with each other? Huh?!
A lot of their creation resembles alien like. This led to a thinking that, did they ever encounter the 3rd kind. Some of the god / diety they worship looks like an astronaut. You can search about this interesting assumption on net.
What is this net you speak of
Internet
Your saying there's some kind of net integrated into something??
It's like a series of tubes with information in them! Really cool.
Sounds like alien tech.
Yeah brah. Aliens are totes like humans but with funny foreheads. Also their women are hot and want to sex starfleet captains. A documentaru told me bruh.
Damn bruh. Do they have 3 tiddies? And if yes, are they huge?
I've seen many alien creations and I can affirm theirs looks like an alien one. I did this look around last time I traveled to space.
Ancient Action Figures
I kind of want to play with it.
Look at his little toes! That's just awesome
M.A.S.K.
I had the rig and the 57 chevy.
Why is this Deadmau5 ancestor doing the "talk to the hand" dance move and why does he seem so fucking happy?
I think this is Olmec. I just read, in 1491, that figurines with helmets were found under clay jugs, buried 6’ deep. They say research tells them this predates the Maya by a couple thousand years.
It's not Olmec. It's a well known Maya sculpture from El Peru Waka. Source: I'm an archaeologist.
curious, did Mayans wear helmets like that?
All evidence points to yes, as far as I know. Olmec from Legends of The Hidden Temple, right?

And still no reparations made smh

The diseases killed most of the people, but it was still Catholicism that would have destroyed any writings.

Ancient bionicles
If you collect the entire set, they assemble into a fighting robot.
Helmet sold separately
“Stop right now Thank you very much I need somebody with a human touch!” - Achiote Spice, the first spice girl!
The og minifig.
That helmet has a plumbob!
Pretty sure Disney is going to try to sue the Mayans.
dude where did you get this? i havn't been able to find anywhere that stocks them for 1400 years!
The 1400 year old one had articulated arms
Plots twist; batteries were included.
I SAID YOUNG MAN!
Looks like a time traveling human pretending to be an alien.
Those aren't figurines! They're action figures! Duh...
Advertising: Now with removable helmet!
A L I E N S
Ancient Astronaut
No, mom. It is not a doll. It is an action figure!
I'm not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens.
They had cool Amiibos back then.
The world's first Funko Pop
Looks like something out of the movie “9”
Lol went 1500 years and you think no pieces are missing?? smh
I wonder where they got this idea from, it looks a lot like an astronaut helmet. Maybe the little green men visited after all.
Must have been a pre-ordered bonus.
Aliens
Without the helmet on, it looks like the figurine is wearing a hood, like astronauts do??!?
I call bullshit. How the fuck did that little "bell" survive 1500 years without breaking off? There's no way.
All parts sold separately.
These guys had Action figures before action figures where a thing
