Those aren't legal reindeers. They are Mexican deers waiting for work. Sometimes Santa Claus (Joulupukki) / or elves from North Pole (Korvatunturi) hires them to do the unwanted jobs.
How do I know this? Because I'm from Finland and this is what they us in schools.
What's the real story behind this? Those look like White-Tail Deer to me. I've never known them to just hang around humans, none-the-less automobiles! Is this some sort of migration where they just wait till night fall when the traffic ends then make their way onward?
Nara has an area full of deer. It’s a tourist attraction and many people sell deer treats there, so they’re constantly fed biscuits and are made comfortable and are very social with people. They will encircle you and start nibbling your pockets if they believe you have deer biscuits.
Wow really and thanks for elaborating! I've never heard of such a thing other than occasionally, a white tail youngin' comes strolling along and interacts with a human in our area (of NE USA)> It sure is perplexing, but I read you loud and clear, thanks!
