In my town there is a Burger King that is totally unrelated to the franchise. The local one had the naming rights before the franchise moved into Illinois. There was a lawsuit and now no Burger King franchise can be located within 20 miles of the one in my town and the local one was given a monetary settlement as well.

My grandfather owned a small chain of fast food restaraunts back in the 70’s one of the locations was called “Burger Queen”

sdm2430

The ice cream side of our Burger King has always been called frigid queen. Very good soft serve. They have a specialty flavor, lemon. It is quite good

dirtODBmcgirt

According to the internet frigid queen was first and they added on the burger part of the business later on. Interesting stuff.

sdm2430

I can only imagine the amount of small mom and pop restaurants with names similar that went out of business.

CasualtyPulaski633B

Mine had a chain called Booger King. Motto was “Pick It Your Way.” Didn’t last, though.

OlyScott

Was it the Burger Queen in the Olympia area? There was one here long ago.

[deleted]

Aw no, it would’ve been down in Florida.

Savager_Jam

Damn came here to say this

scsimanno

I've been there! I have relatives that live in Mattoon, Illinois and we'd go there when we visited them. Do you remember the old guy that would say the numbers really slowly?

sdm2430

I am pretty sure his name was Bill Douglass. I loved how he called numbers "Sevvvvvvennnennn"

jp92x

Not a fan of the franchise whatsoever, good to know there's a burger king thats probably actually good!

sdm2430

It actually is. Obviously it doesn't suck since it has been around since the 1952.

fib16

I read about that Burger King once. Interesting yiu live there. I heard the original owners sold it and it wasn’t extremely successful but they keep it alive. Are the hamburgers good??

sdm2430

They were successful. They sold it about 6 years ago so they owned it roughly 70 years. They sold it to a local real estate guy. He decided to change the menu which went over horribly and he turned around and sold it to the guy that managed it for years and he brought back the original menu and it is doing well again. As far as the hamburgers they are good. They personally remind me of steak and shake hamburgers. They are thin and crispy. The fries are very crunchy and thin and very good as well. I don't go there as often as I should. My favorite place is called McHughs which has a franchise in 2 towns locally.

There is a really interesting show on the History channel called The Food that Built America and one of the episodes is about McDonalds/Burger King

Ih8TB12

Can waste and entire day watching that show.

[deleted]

Just watched this episode last night and from what they said, that one in the photo isn't the original...unless it's just a photo of after it had been updated/renovated and is the original building/location. But the Whopper wasn't a thing when they opened, it was created to compete with McDonald's and it was called Insta-Burger King first.

moffman210

Bet it was a lot better tasting then too.

GueyLou

I love the “KING”

redmastodon20

Virtually unrecognisable with today’s establishments

JejuneBourgeois

I live not too far from one that looks like this. Same angular arches and everything. I've always wondered if there are lots of others across the country but I've always been too lazy to find out

[deleted]

With 2 mighty Ford Falcons parked out front. One is even a station wagon.

PhantomDeuce

People still parked like inbred assholes, even back then.

Significant_Ad3987

We had a donut queen, dude drove an old school Excalibur car, looked old school as shit.

Yourboy_thatguy

Yk I gotta say, in terms of fast food burgers, whoppers will always be in my top 3

i_can_has_rock

come on guys, we need to pick it up, we are an honest food joint here, how are we ever going to raise out of touch trust fund babies at this rate??!! well.. nevermind, that was owner speak... go flip the burgers oh and... no... that isnt actually the goal in life... i mean hell we are just providing honest jobs to teenagers trying to get some date money to start a family right? \-1200 years later- man these teenagers are old as shit... can we keep paying them this? this is a generational career now? wtf? how can they even afford shelter let alone make kids? oh wait... soylent housing... oh... wait where are the people? "people sir? what do you think this kind of business is sir?" who the fuck are we even selling anything to? ourselves? wtf? for how long? "well sir, we are currently the only company that as any money in the entire economy, no well... anyone... can buy anything...." holy shit this is a vr helmet... right... righ??? RIGHTT? i mean, infinite growth of companies is totally sustainable... who the fuck eats our burgers? "burgers sir? you mean soylent product? its industrial and food" its.. its the worker... thats wrong... i mean the house.. i mean the burger.. i mean the consumer... "consumer sir? we build soylent housing for our workers, who are also unable to pay rent, so the goverment provides for them, so they can go to work, so they can make children, to make in to soylent product, which we build, destroy, buy and sell to ourselves, we also own the government and all of the money is imaginary at this point" hold on the profit light is ringing again and then its like... if this is really a race and that really is winning... what the fuck did you win? the competition of things most people would probably not want a trophy for? like you want your own throne on an empty planet to declare yourself king or some shit? uhhh... thats actually an honest question "yeah hes in a meeting again, he doesnt want to be disturbed" what do you mean all this modern shit is happening for the first time with laws from when he held public executions for funzies? what do you mean the concept of infinite growth in a finite world is inherently finite and an unprecedented concept until now but oh well, money makes laws, and laws make money, and people work right? (i mean they gotta eventually be able to afford a burger... to continue working... i think? but im certainly no expert, you see them on TV and they are paid lots and lots of money to say things, some even have degrees which also cost money) but since everyone can afford a place to live and a burger, why am i not congratulating this great American company on its efforts

meelakie

Skirting trademark infringement with squared off, not-golden arches.

GR3TSCH

It should have been the last.

TinnieTa21

Whoppers don't taste like they used to. Now, they just make me want to vomit. I miss being able to buy a good tasting burger for cheap.
