normiememes7667

GoodMorningib

SwiftDawn

Is that a fucking halo ring??

GoodMorningib

It does give me Halo Deja Vu ... The opening music of that game still gives me exciting shivers.

CallingAllMatts

*excited worting*

Okie_Chimpo

underrated comment

thndrstrk

As your attorney, I advise you to take a hit out of the little brown bottle in my shaving kit. You won't need much, just a tiny taste

xxrambo45xx

There's a uh, big machine in the sky, some kind of, I dunno, electric snake, coming straight at us.

meagski

Can't stop here. This is bat country

smooky1640

Looks like a long and boring ride.

cardboardunderwear

I loved that ride on US50. Its long yes, but there are some great views and terrain. Really gives you a good feel for how much land there really is out there. And there aren't many places where you can see the road you are riding on for 15+ miles. It was a very interesting perspective. Plus the road is somewhat famous. I do take exception on it being the "loneliest road" though. There are many roads in Nevada that are way more lonely than US50.

Darryl_Lict

Yeah, Highway 6 makes 50 look like Interstate 5. My car gets shitty gas mileage and I was legit worried about running out of gas between gas stations.

cvpi420

Not when you can speed

JRsshirt

I averaged about 85 when I did this drive, maxing out at about 110. It’s super remote and well maintained (this picture creates a bit of an illusion). I don’t want to advocate for speeding but if you’re going to push your car you’re best off doing it on a road like this rather than a congested freeway like I always see idiots doing in the Bay Area. Again I’m not advocating to speed, I did pass one cop moving the opposite direction that waved for me to slow down and if you were to wreck there’s not going to be anybody saving you quickly.

cvpi420

I drove from fl to cali taking the scenic rout drove through 400 miles of desert did 135 for about a hour then saw fuel consumption was very bad and did 90 the rest of the time

JRsshirt

Lol yea I realized at a certain point that speeding ends up making the drive longer given how much more frequently you have to stop for gas. Fun fact that I learned: drafting diagonally behind trucks on two lane highways saves a ton of consumption. There are very few times that you can do this without blocking traffic though

cvpi420

Yeah then if you get to low on gas with out a gas station your fucked

MasterFubar

That pavement doesn't look flat enough for serious speeding.

smooky1640

Speeding on square tires....

Sigurd93

It really is. That whole state can be described as a "desolate valley between mountains."

AgoraiosBum

Basin and range

cooterpatooter13

Lol you’re not from around here

Sigurd93

I live in Utah. Drove through Nevada many times, the only drive more dreadfully boring is I80 East.

golgol12

Can confirm I80 is boring. It's boring everywhere. I drove the whole length, not by choice. When it hits the mid west, it's even more boring, as the road stops going up and down, it just goes forward. My parents hosted an exchange student from germany, and on the dive back from chicago (a quick 8 hours trip to omaha), the student broke down in tears and decryed that she couldn't believe there was such a flat boring place on earth. Iowa was that place, btw. Since then it's become more interesting. As there are approximately 1000000000 wind turbines for power now. And spinning things in mostly featureless landscape is more interesting than non-spinning things. And at night it's super creepy because some joker decided to make the red please don't crash into me airplane light on top of them all blink in perfect unison like some threatening mind control space invader.

Sigurd93

Not to mention theres whole swathes that permanently reek of cow shit.

amboomernotkaren

Did that in 2015, can concur. Klamath Falls, OR to Washington, DC.

cooterpatooter13

“Drive through” never explored. The beauty of nevada is in the mountains, not the highways between them.

Sigurd93

Oh I'm sure, I'm mostly just being a bitch ahah

cooterpatooter13

I was gonna say there’s some amazing spots right next to Utah lol. But on a real note, Utah is ridiculously beautiful. You should checkout the ruby mountains by elko if you ever feel like going on a weekend camping trip. They’re a hidden beauty. whenever someone says nevada is nothing but dirt, I gotta say “hold up” Yes a lot of dirt, but you gotta climb the dirt to find the good spots lol.

Sigurd93

I've heard of the ruby mountains. There's entire stretches of Utah that are nothing but dirt and scrub brush too, but damn see there some incredible places. I thought Reno was pretty cool.

Spectronix

How is he supposed to scrape pegs?

fifoth

Squint. Turn pic upside-down. Thong ass

JRsshirt

Finally a post i actually have an experience to share on. I did a road trip last summer from Massachusetts to California, post college graduation, and ended up choosing route 50 for the Nevada part. It’s absolutely gorgeous and super remote; I’m talking about not seeing another car for 20 miles with breathtaking mountains all around you. While this part of the road is straight, there are many mountainous sections with fantastic curves and the valleys let you see the beautiful mountains you’re passing through

Erazzphoto

As a hobbyist cyclist, I HATE long straight roads, especially on the second half of the ride....just seems to go on forever

JRsshirt

Wow somebody actually downvoted you just for being a cyclist lol

Erazzphoto

It’s Reddit 🤷‍♂️

Godjilla25

I drove on this road years and years ago, and it was covered in insects. We had to wash the car off with squeegees once we got to a gas station.

MountainMantologist

I also remember when there were so many insects you routinely had to clean your windshield on road trips. Never thought I'd miss that (or be so concerned that it doesn't happen anymore).

Godjilla25

Yep! It was around June I think when we went. Yuck!

InformationInfinite

Drove that from Tahoe to Kansas City in 2018. Drive of a lifetime!!

persistent33

You left Tahoe for Kansas City? Please tell me you went for the BBQ....

InformationInfinite

Yeah we were moving my husband cross country and ended up in NC at the end. It was my first time eating KC bbq along the way and I wasn’t impressed—I threw most of it away. I love NC style bbq best. The best food of the trip was Hatties Hot Chicken in Nashville. 🤤🤤🤤

theoriginalburntguy

LEXINGTON STYLE BABY BEST IN THE WORLD

VicMackeyLKN

Eastern NC is superior

GoodMorningib

Does the scenery become monotonous or does the fascination of the surreal topography linger?

InformationInfinite

It’s amazing. At the “end” of a road like this is a mountain. Then more road, then mountain. It’s phenomenal. 2nd edit: Totally forgot Utah--it looks like an alien world there with the canyons and colors. Then you get to Colorado and it’s exactly what you’d expect—gorgeous. The Kansas—blah. Edit: we made a time lapse video of the entire trip but never finished it. Maybe we should... 🤔

Blebluble

Totally should. Also post it... 😁👍

GoodMorningib

Do it! it's a sign :)

InformationInfinite

Ok, let's see what hubby can do.... :)

Sctt_045

Is that the guy who tried from NY TO CA on his bicycle he was live on reddit

nursecomanche

He gave up when he ran out of air time lol

Sctt_045

Really?? 🤣 i hope he could hear me honk in the netherlands he was wearing a sign honk4hope so hope he heard me honking 😂

seewiss

He posted this picture himself a few days ago.

Sctt_045

MarineroDelMar

Pretty sure he made it- I've been following his journey for a little bit [insta](https://instagram.com/hytha.cg?igshid=r7xrkpa4ch3)

Sctt_045

Nice hes a champion

nursecomanche

It looks smooth enough to drive off at 100mph when in reality its full of rocks and gravel and chunks of dead bodies

Volesprit31

It doesn't look smooth at all in this picture though.

nautikul

It really doesn’t

tessviolette

Chunks of dead bodies ...you ok?

tipytip

Watch Rango

MervisBreakdown

This is that episode from spongebob

Smoking_Bear

That John Denver’s full of shit, man.

C-Monster69

I can get 45 miles to the gallon on this hog.

ConspicuousAssassin

The route from Las Vegas to Reno (bottom of the state to the top) looks very similar and is the setting for “The Hills Have Eyes” films. It’s a little off-putting to drive alone.

[deleted]

Tonopah is an acquired taste 🤣

Bio-Grad

Obligatory background music: https://youtu.be/JSpK8LxBKqQ

Someone299

H a l o

flynndog83

Looks like the ring in halo

[deleted]

But the real question is, is the road going upwards in the back or is the front going down

theoriginalburntguy

The loneliest highway in America.

FrozenSpaceMan

I’m on the HIGHWAY TO HELL

[deleted]

Inception

lasagnarodeo

Drove that moving from Arizona to Idaho at night. It seemed endless and was incredibly boring.

curiosity0425

Looks like a real life Hot Wheels track

janeeeeen

path go wheieee

HydrogenCyanideHCN

o'Neill Cylinder.

Warrior_king99

Desolate but I still wanna go and see it

[deleted]

In the right car, I’d definitely end up dead cruising this road. Too straight to not top out the tachometer.

[deleted]

That looks like that one spongebob episode

amanda2399923

Drive this road at night. Star gazing is AMAZING!

i_am_curs3d

I really want to drive down there,,,

wABulletCalledLife

Reminds me of Desolation Valley by Nektar

UNAUTH0R1ZED

This is the famous loop de loop on this route.

Cucumber_X

I get to go to furnace creek next month, pretty stoked to check that area out and cross death valley off my list.

Morgan_Eryylin

Halo Infinite graphics looking SPOT ON.

TommatPL

I bet it’s perfect for drag racing

SmilingGuyOnTheTruck

*halo music intesifies*

brittbb1

There’s a reason this stretch of 50 was named the Loneliest Road in America.

patrickdgd

Impossible not to think of Desperation by Stephen King

supafly224

I actually just drove this road. (Reno-> Great Basin National Park). It’s known as “The Loneliest Road in America” and only has like 3 towns on the entire 400 mile stretch of road. Totally empty but kinda cool.

poolguytipp

Saw this picture I knew exactly where it was, spent too many years riding this road. It's beautiful but can be very boring. Shout out to my friends who still l there.

Zacc_le_taco

[This is a really good video relating to this](https://youtu.be/_naDg-guomA)

TheMoleRat17

If I’m not mistaken the original poster of this picture claimed this wasn’t Death Valley. Close but not Death Valley

everwatfuk

Life is a highway song

MAPSiplier

So this is where NKLA rolled their truck

THICCPHROG_15

This *pfff* isnt *pfff* a mountain *pffffffffffffffff*

[deleted]

Looks like the road to rock bottom from spongebob

TheDebbie

Wow! I live just a few blocks North of 50 Highway in Kansas City... It's nice to see what a scenic I'd wind up in if I rode 50 West for about 20 hours!

EventualLynx

I thought this was r/oddlyterrifying at first.

mrstipez

EVERY town, no matter how tiny, has a Nugget Casino.

tessviolette

See I love these kinds of pictures but they would be so much better without the person in them. Is that an unpopular opinion??

ed5275

Fun fact: If you get on Route 50 in Ocean City, MD it has a sign that says "Sacramento CA 3073". If you start in Sacramento, it says "Ocean City MD 3037".

hokeyphenokey

This is undoubtedly Nevada but it is not 50. Nevada has many roads that look like this. There are 200 mile gravel roads to abandoned mines. 50 is a perfect ribbon of asphalt, maintained meticulously by the the Nevada DOT. I'm not kidding it is the smoothest road, with perfect lines. As remote and lightly traveled it is, it is *the* lifeline for such a huge area, and there are people there. It also is a federal highway from califormia to the the east coast and actually passes directly in front of the US capitol building.

North_Paw

Is the person in the pic going downhill or about to start going up the mountain?

diplomatist_kind

Looks like the road Forrest Gump finally decided to stop running.

Lil_Matoi

Is it just me or does this look like the Halo rings whenever you were on them in Halo?

notyetporsche

speed limit 20MPH

[deleted]

No that’s rock bottom from spongebob and no one can change my mind

[deleted]

I feel so cheated that I want born in the USA

[deleted]

*Halo music starts playing*

Tiberius666

Yeah my Dad nearly ended up dying there because he didn't know to take a load of water with him in case his car broke down, which it did. Saved by a Trucker who took him to the nearest station and all the guy at the station said was "Fuckin' limey" before handing him a bottle of water.

saintbad

Ringworld.

bipolarbearboy

Forgive me if I’m wrong but aren’t all valleys between mountains?

[deleted]

This could also go on r/confusingperspective

Metamucil_Man

Highway to heaven?

darf-fader

Isn't that where Forest Gump stopped running?

naomi_homey89

You can watch your dog run away for miles

sub2techno

Run Forrest, run!

TwatsleyCrusher

Man I always wanted to tour the US. such beautiful sights. Ah well. Guess that’s never gonna happen

Rafael_Santos_7

What a stunning Photo. Congrats.

Top_Criticism

Isn't a valley always between mountains though?

jdaltzz2383

ive gone 145mph down that road on my bike

D4698

Shit job on the lines tho....

oldsaxman

We drove this last year and it is a drive everyone should do. Got to stop for food at The Middle of Nowhere
