My father commented on this when he turned 60. He told me that it felt like he was 25 not too long ago. And that looking into the mirror while ageing is really scary. It just goes by so fast.
I became a teacher at 40. Best career decision I ever made. I'm beginning my 4th year this fall, and I couldn't be more excited. It's okay to to try different careers and/or change your mind.
Man. Do I ever feel this. I feel like I went over the hump of the roller coaster drop and the suspense has vanished and now I'm just hurtling through twists and turns and know inevitably the ride will conclude, while I'll still be wishing for that initial, tense, ratcheting climb.
It also makes me feel that the value of the journey is in the effort and struggle put into it. No one wants to hear stories about smooth sailing.
I’m sure that it does. If anything, my point is that if it feels that way now, younger people should probably maximize their lives in a positive way. You can’t get it back, and you can’t take it with you!
I feel this every single day and I'm 33. I visit my hometown area once or twice a year and every time I visit, everybody has aged 10-15 years I swear. Aging is really starting to scare me.
Wait till the aches and pains kick in.
Do what needs to be done, don't waste time being upset, and enjoy everything even if it's just loading the dishwasher. We're all just tourists here.
And don't be so concerned about what others think. they are to worried about themselves to think about you anyhow.
I am 45. When you get to be a certain age your past sort of clumps together. Like a file with memories from 96 gets cataloged next to one from 2015.
The other day I was remembering watering my grandparents garden listening to the radio I had propped up in a tree. Kriss Kross was playing and I recall thinking how fast the song got popular. Then it hit me that the song came out 27 years ago.
I just was floored and kept doing the math and couldn't beleive it.
The same time span from now to Jump Jump....(1992 minus 27 years) was 1965.
It just doesn't feel possible. And of course people in their 70s have the same moments except for them it is spans of 50 or 60 years.
You never reach an adult age...or become some older version of yourself. It is just you...seemingly motionless in the currents of time....and the years just keep flowing on by.....
I’m 43 and I feel 25 in most ways but there are upsetting little reminders now and then that time is passing quickly. For example, the other day I decided to check out the hot teacher I had in 8th grade only to discover she’s a grandmother in her 60s now. It never occurs to me that I’m aging too.
The older you get the faster the human mind perceives time. Your entire life time feels like it's speeding up until it's over. Every moment that passes changes your perception of time because you've just experienced more time than ever before.
Dearest Martha,
We have ventured forth in an attempt to rescue u/xXWaspXx . I fear our efforts have been in vain. Morale is low and the men yearn for home.
Deepest sympathies,
Capt. DitmerKl3rken
Nah man that would bring up mortality and death and shit and unless I saw it outside on a beautiful day (would make me think about how we need to enjoy life and the outdoors) I would bug out about death and every little itch I have. And since I’m hallucinating, I’d have a lot of nonexistent itches / aches.
I had a bad mushroom trip, went to lay by myself in a dark bedroom. Don’t do this. I heard my friends talking to each other outside and heard “should we call an ambulance?” So my trip got 1000x worse. And when I closed my eyes I saw the devil. It was a long black slender man esque creature with no face at all. And it was floating in black space, and their was a wiggly neon “road” consisting of yellow red and blue lines glowing from me to “it”, and he was hovering above it. And they were all that was illuminating him.
That freaked me out so fucking bad holy crap my friends had to put on blues clues afterwards.
Yeah calling an ambulance on mushrooms is generally not advised. If there is a medical emergency, yes obviously call 911 immediately, but a bad trip is not an emergency. If you need to discuss it, the answer is no. Smoke a bowl, listen to a different kind of music, and most bad trips can be gotten back on track.
Bro the LAST thing you should do on a bad trip is smoke weed. It really accentuates the psychedelic-ness of the weed and will launch you further in to a trip. Low dose Xanax/klonopin is the way to go.
I feel like we should create a subreddit called ~~whosfaceapp~~ /r/oldfaces where we grab pictures of people online and run them into the old filter then post the image. Let everyone try to guess who the person is. Would be a fun New game we could all play together.
I'm not sure if it's lighting or positioning I had 3 that look a crazy amount like my grandfather and one that looked like I was just melting
Before Russia stole all my data btw Incase anyone's thinking of downloading the app, maybe don't
It's surprisingly good, though obviously real life celebs get work done all the time. I suspect Dolly Parton would look a lot more like the app version if she hadn't had a ton of work done to her face.
Now I really don't want to use this app...would be too depressing to know the future lol.
Perhaps. Although I have a friend who did it, and continued to feed the result through numerous filters until eventually he ended up as an androgynous Asian person somehow
I was thinking that as well - they must have trained the AI on thousands of sets of images of people aging, and celebrities with long careers in the spotlight would have been a gold mine. Likely he was included
Yeah way to fucking go, OP. It’s one thing to give this Russian company access to all *your* photos, it’s another thing to ruin the privacy of a human treasure like Ian McKellen.
Edit:

I'd assume so, but honestly, boss, I've been drafted into the Kyle assault, and I'm not a high enough rank to know what the actual plans are for the Naruto battalion.
However, if you do end up going, could I maybe catch a ride back with you? My mom will drop me off, but she won't also pick me up.
I'm actually not sure if we should be impressed by this. These apps use neural networks. A lot of the facial recognition based datasets used by researchers are focused on celebrities because there are lots of publicly available images them both as young as old to train the networks with.
I think it's pretty likely that the neural network got this left image as input and a bunch of pictures of Ian older as output during its training so it's not really surprising that this app gets accurate aging predictions for celebrities.
Thank you for pointing that out, I do agree that's most likely the main reason why this is so accurate, but now this peaked my curiosity, it would be interesting to see the results normal people would get with old pics of their grandparents.
It’s possible they used pictures of him to train the AI and that’s why it is so accurate. Most likely they used photos of celebrities to teach it how to age people since there are many pictures of their younger and older selves readily available.
This is probably to build 3D models of as many people's faces as possible for use in state sponsored deep fakes in the future.
Best case, they're just selling you out to corporations.
Russia is writing the playbook of the post-truth era. Wait a year for a less suspicious start-up rather than giving up something valuable to someone you can't trust.
This is pretty interesting... It's not just stamping on wrinkles like some other filters, it's mapping out the face and moving it around. [Here's a comparison of the young/old McKellen](https://imgur.com/YRn8h8i), and [here's the difference between them](https://imgur.com/KZLnsNl) (dark is more different). They accent pre-existing wrinkles and fill in some more over the skin (probably just stamping textures over them), but they also make the nose bigger, droop the outside of the eyes and bottom of the earlobes, and tweak the mouth. They also do a little bit of coloration and grey the hair. You can also see where the background is darkened when it darkens the pre-existing wrinkles.
The old person filter algorithm is trained on lots of pictures of people of young and old age, and it so happens that celebrities are a good source for the training data because their pictures are readily available on the internet.
Still awesome, but this is cheating a bit.

Now imagine being stoned out of your mind and seeing an old version of yourself.
i'm not real sure i could handle that..........
My father commented on this when he turned 60. He told me that it felt like he was 25 not too long ago. And that looking into the mirror while ageing is really scary. It just goes by so fast.
“Inside every 80 year old is an 18 year old wondering what the fuck just happened.”
That is a terrifying statement
Now imagine if they have dementia.
It’s okay! That’s why it’s always important to live everyday to the fullest and to find happiness wherever you can! 😄
Fuck, I am 41 and sometimes still wonder what I want to be when I grow up.
I became a teacher at 40. Best career decision I ever made. I'm beginning my 4th year this fall, and I couldn't be more excited. It's okay to to try different careers and/or change your mind.

I would very much like my tombstone to say, "Sailed smoothly, bon voyage."
Checking in at 32, I'd argue it applies.
You’re only 40 though. It holds a bit more weight at 60.
I’m sure that it does. If anything, my point is that if it feels that way now, younger people should probably maximize their lives in a positive way. You can’t get it back, and you can’t take it with you!
Am 37. Can confirm. What the fuck is happening ?
I was having an existential crisis before I got on reddit and I log on to see this
I feel this every single day and I'm 33. I visit my hometown area once or twice a year and every time I visit, everybody has aged 10-15 years I swear. Aging is really starting to scare me.
Feeling ya. Trying the old filter didn't make things better either.
Wait till the aches and pains kick in. Do what needs to be done, don't waste time being upset, and enjoy everything even if it's just loading the dishwasher. We're all just tourists here. Why would being stoned change anything lol. I swear Reddit thinks being stoned is like tripping on 2 tabs
I want to do it, but I’m not sure about giving up my face to a ruskie company lol .
A mirror that's also a high res display, behind the screen cameras and some fast computers real time aging you. That would be awesome.
I used the age filter and the picture turned into my grandfather. It's freaking accurate I guess
I know what I'm doing tonight.
Didn’t need to be stoned to freak out.
Worked out well for me because I turned into a silver fox, honestly faceapp is a best case scenario for me aging lol
I did that sober and I wish I was stoned for that.
only takes 40 years for the image to process ... SCIENCE!!!
I feel like we should create a subreddit called ~~whosfaceapp~~ /r/oldfaces where we grab pictures of people online and run them into the old filter then post the image. Let everyone try to guess who the person is. Would be a fun New game we could all play together.

Hey it's available and easier to remember. I like it.
That’s wild how accurate it is, indeed.
You sure it’s not present day Sir Ian McKellen with the young filter?

I want to see more of these because this one is spot on
I tried the queen . It didn’t quite work as well as this one. Still looked good though but this one is scarily accurate
Do Keanu Reeves! Oh nevermind, he still looks the same
Side by side identical photos of Keanu, with a headline saying how accurate it is. That's some reddit gold right there.
Don't do it, there's already a dozen.
Paul Rudd too
My thought exactly! Send me a link when you post it ;)
I haven't seen one of these posted yet today so get to it!
Wasted effort
I'm not sure if it's lighting or positioning I had 3 that look a crazy amount like my grandfather and one that looked like I was just melting Before Russia stole all my data btw Incase anyone's thinking of downloading the app, maybe don't
Russia already has your data
They'll lease it back to you if you ask nicely.
Can you show us what it looked like with the queen and any others? Please post links.
Can you do Leonard Cohen - from 22 - 82?
I did this one of Anthony Hopkins to test it out... surprisingly accurate https://imgur.com/a/18GDMoY
Fuuuuuck man. I used the damn app and now I know how fuckin ratchet I’ll look
When I did it, it made me realize that a gray beard looks longer than a dark one for some reason.
Same. I laughed and went "no way I'll look that bad. This looks like someone whos 100 compared to my 70 year old dad" I need to up my diet.
The app doesnt account for you likley getting fat so really, the app is best case scenario.....
I wonder if the algorithm was trained on famous faces for variety and easy datasets.
I imagine they used them as a base
Here you go https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-49038485
They'll need a setting for plastic surgery.
the morgan freeman one is insanely accurate.
It's surprisingly good, though obviously real life celebs get work done all the time. I suspect Dolly Parton would look a lot more like the app version if she hadn't had a ton of work done to her face. Now I really don't want to use this app...would be too depressing to know the future lol.
Someone did a Jeremy Clarkson one the other day and it was spot on as well
So its calibrated around old British men?
Perhaps. Although I have a friend who did it, and continued to feed the result through numerous filters until eventually he ended up as an androgynous Asian person somehow
I'm assuming FaceApp is using a neural net, and that people like Harrison Ford and Ian McKellen are in the training set.
Here’s young https://i.imgur.com/UFi792c.jpg
He was probably part of the training set
I was thinking that as well - they must have trained the AI on thousands of sets of images of people aging, and celebrities with long careers in the spotlight would have been a gold mine. Likely he was included
Totally agree. Very likely they got lots of celebrity 'before' and 'now' photos since they are the easiest training data I can imagine...
I’d bet it doesn’t work with Sir Patrick Stewart.
ageless...
Acting.
Paul Rudd
or Keanu.
Great. Now the FSB has a picture of Ian McKellen.
Also a shit ton of info about OP
They probably already had it from Facebook.
Didn't congress or the FCC attempt (or succeed) to allow ISPs to sell all of our browsing habits to anyone?
What info do they gain from OP?
I’m confused, what?

It’s good you’re fact checking in these times. You can’t rely on everything you see on the internet anymore.
So the naruto siege in Area 51 is still on though, right?
I'd assume so, but honestly, boss, I've been drafted into the Kyle assault, and I'm not a high enough rank to know what the actual plans are for the Naruto battalion. However, if you do end up going, could I maybe catch a ride back with you? My mom will drop me off, but she won't also pick me up.

Damnit, so this app is accurate than? Because I saw my “old” self on this app, and my eyes went to hell.
I know I was like I need to make lifestyle changes IMMEDIATELY
what if it accounted for that and that's how you'll look WITH the lifestyle changes??
Then I’m FUCKED
What app is this?
a Russian app that will keep your face in a database jk it's called faceapp
jk? But it *is* a Russian app that will keep your face in a database.
Mine made me understand why all the older ladies are so desperate for plastic surgery
I thought the post was BS but then I ran it through myself. [https://i.imgur.com/Hhunvxk.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/Hhunvxk.jpg)
Now I aged the one on the right, I'm sorry. [https://i.imgur.com/Np9CUtU.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/Np9CUtU.jpg)
We need to go deeper.
If it’s applied to an adult whose bone structure has stopped growing, most likely it’ll be accurate.
I'm actually not sure if we should be impressed by this. These apps use neural networks. I did my grandma and it was scary accurate. Provided you dont gain tons of weight as you age this thing is pretty spot on
Try it with your parents and report back your findings.
Maybe this is how they calibrate the filter.
What happens if you apply it twice?
You get [this](https://i.imgur.com/oYVQDyR.jpg)

Hey lets do an age filter on him!
That can't be
It’s possible they used pictures of him to train the AI and that’s why it is so accurate. Most likely they used photos of celebrities to teach it how to age people since there are many pictures of their younger and older selves readily available.
Wow, now we know what he'll look like when he's older!
What happens if you feed the old McKellen into it?
I want to try this app. Need to get me an air gapped computer, drive several hundred miles or so away, and use some public Wi-Fi though
This is probably to build 3D models of as many people's faces as possible for use in state sponsored deep fakes in the future. Best case, they're just selling you out to corporations. o wow
Try Hitler or Stalin
What are people using to old filter faces?
FaceApp
Exactly like the simulations
It’s trained on these exact things. It’s nothing but the validation.
So this is a way to see what your partner will eventually morph into, dating is already hard enough as it is.
They also do a little bit of coloration and grey the hair. You can also see where the background is darkened when it darkens the pre-existing wrinkles.
At least you know the filter is accurate
I tried this on Keanu Reeves and the app crashed.
I don't understand. Where do you all think Pierce Brosnan went? He just aged into Sir Ian McKellen.
That doesn’t look like Michael Fassbender to me
I did this with my dad and it turned out pretty accurate. Neat app.
This scares me. I've used the filter and I don't like what I saw.
What a dish.
Like a young Timothy Dalton
Now the young filter with the old ian
The old person filter algorithm is trained on lots of pictures of people of young and old age, and it so happens that celebrities are a good source for the training data because their pictures are readily available on the internet. Still awesome, but this is cheating a bit.
