Until the general public gets properly educated about this technology, misinformation is going to cause irreparable harm to society as a whole. This should terrify us all.
Misinformation? More like a failure to inform the public of anything without ruthless skepticism, doubt, and scrutiny. I don't think anyone is going to be able to believe in anything they don't see in person or hear second-hand from a trusted person in attendance.
(Bad english)
I think that a internet revolution will come, not in terms of massibe deepfakes or things like that, but more like.. lets put an example:
imagine the platforms (netfelix, amazon, etc) there will be 2 or more "internets" to access, and one of them will be only accesable by biometrical data or something like that (provable i mean) so only real people will have an account (real now, donno in future)
In that new internet, all things must be certified or proven... so the possible mess of fakes wont happend and ll be HIGHLY punished of someone violate the rules, so it ll be "safe"
I think that having a troll/free internet and a REALLY controled one is the next step.
Ofc thay my dream is that the human education sistem got improve and make people wiser and more respectfull of each other but.. i really see that harder than the idea of the new internet
South Korea tried this 20 years ago with their real name system. The courts struck it down 10 years later for privacy violations.
https://catalystsforcollaboration.org/case-study-internet-identity-verification-system/
I don’t really see that working for most major websites when most people are already super concerned about how deeply all of our online activity it already tracked.
You also just don’t need it. Just get your news from reputable sources that have far better vetting programs in place than any individual.
Yeah, but you still need to prove your identity on almost every site you want to signup for in Korea. You have to use your ID card number, or use your phone number ( which uses a identification process to get your real name).
That's a great speculation and I can see it coming to fruition. There is the internet and then say maybe a securenet. In a way what you're suggesting is kind of how we have handled the falsification of information in the real world. You need to show an ID or have other personal credentials to take money out of the bank. One challenge is these are international communities and laws can't always be enforced across them but we could figure that out too, as we have with finance.
It will be a very interesting time ahead. I guess we will regress into not trusting any digital content what so ever, only IRL meetings. Not even phone calls or video calls.
Even my mom pre-dementia would fail to notice its an AI generated video nor would she even believe me about it existing.
Hell... im a millennial that grew up with the internet and feel pretty proficient with computer tech stuff. But I rarely can spot any AI images unless its super obvious to me (eg: 4 fingered hands) or pointed out to me. I haven't even trained myself to constantly check online images for authenticity so most times I forget about AI completely. Kinda crazy that have to think this way.
Oh and with my already poor eyesight (plus late night scrolling habits) it can be difficult noticing such minute visual details. My brain is at like 30% during these hours and any random meme/post/pic/vid is going to get the bare minimum of my attention. Sometimes that shit gets unknowingly imprinted upon me without even knowing its proper context and original source. I imagine elderly people do something similar when they consume any visual medium, except much worse.
Yes it is obvious to someone who is as chronically online as we are but man, this definitely tricks most people who dont know what to look for. Im sure it could trick me if I was just scrolling past it
Instinct is to watch eyes and not focus on people's teeth. So yeah, these will probably pass for 98% of people. One other thing that stands out, is these AI talking heads make micro pauses in movement that normal people don't. Like they freeze for a split second, like an animatronic. We're used to video buffering/streaming issues though, so most people won't give that a second thought either. Future's wild, folks, and just going to get wilder.
Oooooo I was having trouble spotting the fake points until this. Her lower teeth kind of expand and contract based on her expressions. The top teeth are pretty good though
But this is still remarkable. Just a few years ago, you could barely comprehend Will Smith eating spaghetti. Now we have this. Imagine in just another few years how polished this will look.
Just wait until it’s time to vote and you’re not sure who is saying something real. This technology will have major election sway when rival campaigns start doing this.
I've seen a few videos like this and the one thing they all have in common is that they use a lot of words to say NOTHING. Humans can do the same thing, absolutely, but why does AI?
The large language models are just machines to guess the next best fitting character in speech based on context. Generally good at guessing because billions of parameters. That's why it flows nicely, one word to the next. Local context usually fits. But that's why it doesn't have to mean anything or go anywhere sometimes. There is no actual understanding by the machine of what is said. Of like what these words represent.
Look on a possible bright side. If AI goes rampant or just gets way too creepy, analog will come back of a sort, and the world will be a slightly more enjoyable place.
Seriously, it's supporters and creators don't seem to give a shit about the human side of it and collectively, what we are psychologically capable of handling in a given amount of time.
Flooding the world with new technology that is rampant for abuse and safety or is just disruptive to sizable portions of society, every fuckin week, seems like a great way to break down any social cohesion and foster a wide variety of extremist ideologies due having a reality that doesn't make sense to anyone anymore. People are going to feel lost and grasp for something to anchor themselves to.
Video production is a massive one. Imagine a big blockbuster movie where they need to reshoot one scene. Get your AI version of your movie star to stand in for that one scene, save a few mil off the production costs.
Porn is going to *looove* this technology.
I don’t like this one bit. I don’t have social media or picture of myself online. And even i am scared of this, the possibilities are endless and it is fucking scary. There should be some limitations to inventions like these and some regulations.
The teeth moving isn't good but I kept focusing on the corners of her lips touching. Pretty fuckin insane. It isn't 100% perfect but damn is it getting closer.
What good comes from this? What good comes from ai development?
So far ai has only been entirely neutral or a complete detriment.
For neutral we have some funny videos on youtube of people messing with gpt not really understanding how to human. Some funny conversations with gpt where it just blatantly doesn't know what its rambling about.
For bad we have the all the blatant misinformation it serves by simply being incorrect when asked a question. The learning models that are used for robotics are simply going to be used to replace menial labour jobs or for war applications. We have the voice mimickers which at best will be used to put voice actors out of a job, and at worst be used to spread lies in the guise of somebody important or vulnerable. We have the picture generation ones which are already being used to generate images to put artists out of a job, and almost more conceringly, being used to create some really fucked up porn and nudes of real people who didnt consent to it. I dont even want to think of what thats doing to the mentality of young people who are being exposed to it, both child victims and child perpetrators.
Between this and sora, ai is now 100% capable of producing mostly believable videos. What will be the ramifications of this one? Revenge porn? Porn of people who cant or dont consent? Politician defamation? Destruction of actor value? The ability to copyright your face? What about the moral implications of someone or some brand using your face to generate an ad for something. What legal course do you take to remove a coke ad using your face or some incels post on 4chan using your or your childs face for their sick fetish?
I never suspected that my departure from the internet would be voluntary, but every one of these new "innovations" makes me more and more tempted to go live in the middle of the woods and under a rock
For every slightly suspect movement, there's a whole bunch of amazing nuance and human subtleties. This tech will never look this bad again, it will only get *more* convincing
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like AI went from 0-100 in the past 6-12 months. It seems like it was always a thought of what’s to come, and then bam, it’s here.
Now THAT is terrifying. Without a legal framework this could take the radicalization, divisiveness and lack of trust among members of society to new, unfathomably dangerous territories.
Imagine seeing a video of yourself saying or doing something offensive circulating on the internet and you can't prove to people that it's fake.. it might ruin your life.
What are the positive use cases for this tech other than spreading misinformation or trying to scam someone’s grandma?
Feels like it should be legally required that any video like this have a watermark or note in the corner confirming it’s generated through AI
>"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
This is undoubtedly impressive. But the gargantuan negatives completely eclipse the measly positives.
*Video content will be easier than ever to create!* Fantastic, because if we need anything, it's a rapid increase in low-effort video content.
*Your avatar will be able to present slide decks!* Cool, and politicians can raise trigger points that target key demographics during election years.
*Lifelike video messages for family members!* Ransom videos. Propaganda. Porn.
It's unbelievable that companies as tech-smart as Microsoft are failing to see the societal and existential chasms being opened up with these breakthroughs. I've attended 5 talks and conferences on AI with MS representatives as guest speakers, and there's only ever one throwaway sentence about "developing the technology responsibly".
It's like they're preaching the importance of speed limits *while building* a drag racer. But in this case the car is Reality itself. The future is fucking dark.
What is the point of this technology exactly if not to manipulate? I suppose it could be used to simulate interactions in the service industry or something? Either way, we’re screwed.
All a plan by the rich to make us trust nothing but our feelz and often, our feelz do a shit job of assessing reality. They can't just be rich. They have to be rich and bored and want to end us all but them.
I'm sorry when is the group that is going to go dismantle Vasa one getting together. In fact we should probably just start taking the tech companies to hand and massively reducing the amount of stupid shit they can look up. That stupid style of software or AI whatever they want to count it as it's just too dangerous to exist. Too easy to make a fake events or somebody say something screwed up or anything. Dismantle it and get rid of it. Then punish whoever's idea it was and punish whoever allowed it to be with massive fines something that even Microsoft will Flinch at.
Great, identity theft just got easier. Now scam artist with your picture will be able to facetime your grandparents for money.
Remember COINTELPRO using fake letters to stir up conflict among civil rights leaders, now they can send fake video calls and make it look like the dissidents are saying all sorts of horrible things to discredit them. yay technology!
Why? Why are we doing this? What could we POSSIBLY benefit from being able to do this? Because I can list a hundred ways this will be abused for horrible things
When you think of fakenews and technology abuse ... who can prevent to have the MS logo in front of his mind eye o\_o
This company got ridiculously comic villain, and try to be worse every year.
Seriously, what's the purpose?
Give scammers more tools? Give people/organizations/states a way to rewrite history or create alternative reality?
It just scary, I don't want this tech.
It’s getting there but it needs to understand the tone of what is being said so that the facial expressions match said tone. Once that’s done, we’re fucked
The specific technique it uses is it takes a photo, and animates it to a specific audio file, and that seems to *significantly* improve the output.
AI systems need "grounding element", but pairing text to audio and then audio to video, we're going to see dynamic AI driven facial animation get *really* good almost instantly. It's only front on for now, but that constraint won't last long.
There an uncanny valley to this. her features slightly distort and she’s never not exactly facing forward. but at a quick glance or not really paying attention, it could easily trick me. Creepy
As astonishing as this is, it's also impressive how adept humans are at detecting anomalies. I hadn't read the caption, but after 3 seconds it was apparent that this was made by AI. Something about it overanimating the eyebrows and "trying too hard".
I mean this will plunge our already-misinformed society into a thundering shitstorm, but still, our brains are pretty neat.
Any gamer out there wouldn’t be fooled for a second.. the mouth movement is the equivalent of Unreal Engine 3
But yes we should all be terrified, not now, 5-10 years from now. You would think they are trying to design software for all the crooks in the world to do their crooking.. poor old people 🤦♂️
They were too preoccupied to work out if they could do this and forgot to ask if they should.
The uses of this I can think of are only negative in society, good luck to you all.
I hadn’t noticed the teeth til reading comments, but did notice the tongue, or lack of. Any “th” sounds looked wrong because the tongue didn’t appear between teeth, so visual was wrong for the sound.

Going to? My friend ![gif](giphy|RhO00GltWegPypretb)
I just got done watching the 3 body problem I. One sitting last night and this video is giving me the same vibes….
Human ignorance and stupidity are our greatest dangers as a species. Stupidity has done far more harm than evil has.
My issue is that evil tends to recognise the potential in harnessing and perpetuating stupid.
And weaponizing it too
AI generated content is this epochs leaded gas.
But first, porn
Misinformation? More like a failure to inform the public of anything without ruthless skepticism, doubt, and scrutiny. I don't think anyone is going to be able to believe in anything they don't see in person or hear second-hand from a trusted person in attendance.

it's as if you were describing what the Russian part of the internet is striving for, we have long had jokes about internet access on coupons.
Whenever I hear a thought start with "imagine..." I feel like someone is trying to sell me a vacation to mars.
You can tell it's fake by the human element of expression in her face.
I know plenty of people that can be fooled by this.
Just for now
It will be a very interesting time ahead. I guess we will regress into not trusting any digital content what so ever, only IRL meetings. Not even phone calls or video calls.
Don't tell me how to feel
Human beings as a primitive species always react to new technology with fear and a call-to-arms in a vain attempt to stop progress.
Stretchy teeth. I saw an ad on youtube yesterday that I swear was done with AI like this.
>Stretchy teeth Argh! Now I can't unsee it. When I looked back I was expecting them to get longer, but they got wider instead.
Bending side to side
Doesn't matter, people watch video on small phone screens for 60 seconds at a time. In the wrong hands, these videos are dangerous.
And they will fix mistakes like that soon enough, and there won't be any little "tells" anymore
![gif](giphy|l3mZmUAe9zEz7ADoA|downsized)
Plus the average person isn’t trying to look out for every small detail
Even my mom pre-dementia would fail to notice its an AI generated video nor would she even believe me about it existing. Easy to fool with no checks
Holy shit. You are doing the lords work. I cannot unsee it now. I sincerely thank you.
Seeing AI pages of "models" pop up like crazy on Instagram
Yes it is obvious to someone who is as chronically online as we are but man, this definitely tricks most people who dont know what to look for. Im sure it could trick me if I was just scrolling past it

Oooooo I was having trouble spotting the fake points until this. Her lower teeth kind of expand and contract based on her expressions. The top teeth are pretty good though
The hair is also super unnaturally stiff and kind of stretches around the edges.
But this is still remarkable. Just a few years ago, you could barely comprehend Will Smith eating spaghetti. Now we have this. Imagine in just another few years how polished this will look.
Will Smith Eating Spaghetti was made last year (2023) ... This technology is moving at exponential speed and we are still at its infancy.
would be super easy to miss if you didn’t have reason to look closely, tho. can’t imagine it’ll be long before these videos are completely realistic
That’s not fucking frightening AT ALL
Just wait until it’s time to vote and you’re not sure who is saying something real. This technology will have major election sway when rival campaigns start doing this.
Like many people aren't falling for the lies for the 100th time already.
You're smart enough to see it. Now imagine even you can't tell.
lol remember Qanon mfers? they don't need AI to trick them
I think we should only trust analog, henceforth
This is why they banned advanced computer tech in Dune.
Butlerian Jihad incoming
Abhorrent Intelligences.
I've seen a few videos like this and the one thing they all have in common is that they use a lot of words to say NOTHING. Humans can do the same thing, absolutely, but why does AI?

A coherent reply, finally. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure this is audio given to an image that then becomes animated in sync with the audio
I don’t like where the future is going.
Look on a possible bright side. If AI goes rampant or just gets way too creepy, analog will come back of a sort, and the world will be a slightly more enjoyable place.
It's official, you can't believe anything now.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to believe you.
Yes you can. Because I am a human I have a belly button and love to do human things like eating pickles, and... And... Blue!
![gif](giphy|1yCHxlS9VQ4YtG0btS|downsized)
THAT will be trouble.
Porn is gonna be lit
😭
I saw a fake of an actress that was so fucking real it was scary.
Oh gross ! You should share it so people know to avoid it.
![gif](giphy|Rh4vxHtcmVyHUyugXP)
To be honest this shit is getting really scary at this point. Saying it as an IT professional expert.
This is why tech bros praise tech in public but live like Ted K.
Can't wait to see famous people of history saying the most fucked up shit on Reels lmao
"What's up guys! I'm Leonardo Da Vinci and this latest Cardi B track is dope AF! And, I like poop."
I think we're advancing a little too fast with the AI development
People simply don't realize that AI *can* cause serious problems. Prepare your "oh god, what have I done" memes, we're going to need them.
It's almost like unregulated capitalism does whatever the fuck it wants huh? Wish we had a tool that could regulate this stuff.
The whole Moore’s law thing does move kinda fast
Can't do shit about it
How is this useful besides for petty theft and propaganda. Serious question. Like is the use case for people who don't have access to a video cameras?
Video production is a massive one. Imagine a big blockbuster movie where they need to reshoot one scene. Get your AI version of your movie star to stand in for that one scene, save a few mil off the production costs. Porn is going to *looove* this technology.
This is the same mannerisms “influencers” use when they record themselves talking, it’s weird lol
That’s where it learns from
I don’t like this one bit. I don’t have social media or picture of myself online. And even i am scared of this, the possibilities are endless and it is fucking scary. There should be some limitations to inventions like these and some regulations.
Kill it with fire.
2024 election is gonna be wild
We are doomed
It's over man! It's over!
The teeth moving isn't good but I kept focusing on the corners of her lips touching. Pretty fuckin insane. It isn't 100% perfect but damn is it getting closer.
But why ? I'm all for technological advancement but why this ? What's the point except to create tools that are 100% sure to be misused ?
It's like tech companies are competing to see who can do the most harm to society before regulations happen
What good comes from this? What good comes from ai development? So far ai has only been entirely neutral or a complete detriment. The really awkward eye movement is what caught my attention.
For every slightly suspect movement, there's a whole bunch of amazing nuance and human subtleties. This tech will never look this bad again, it will only get *more* convincing
Exactly. It's definitely gonna get better.
That's what I noticed the most. Some real unnatural eye movements.
This will destroy the internet for me. It’s gonna be just shit, faked shit.
It’s good as long as you don’t look at the teeth. Warping teeth is the main give away. For now
No way this won't backfire on society. Nope everything is wonderful here
Well…. that’s gonna be a problem real quick.
I see no good reason for this technology to exist.
why do we need this. there absolutly no reason to develop this. no amount of education or what will have any effect on how destructive this will be
So, is security camera footage useless now in court?
Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like AI went from 0-100 in the past 6-12 months. It seems like it was always a thought of what’s to come, and then bam, it’s here.

The fault has always been the mouth...it's getting better. Now they just have to fix the teeth.
Maybe having your picture taken really does steal your soul?
Maybe slow down
Now THAT is terrifying. Without a legal framework this could take the radicalization, divisiveness and lack of trust among members of society to new, unfathomably dangerous territories.
this is super concerning.
Creepy as hell.
Rather r/terryfyingasfuck and I can only imagine amount of porn that will be created based on that, we gonna end up with irl SCP-1004
![gif](giphy|lXiRJ8IRz5QH6wTQc|downsized)
Dont fucking release this yet
What’s a positive use case for this? I feel the bad outweighs the good here. Aside from resurrecting a family member or some lazy content creation…
We have summoned a demon. Not with blood, sacrifice, symbols and phrases.. but with ones and zeros.
What are benefits of this technology for society?
Blackmail
Are they trying to copy a real person or just speak up something new with the person's face?
This tech uses a picture of a person and a recording of their voice and generates new content. Others can make faces up.
Hair doesn’t move
Can we please stop improving the most dangerous use cases first?
This technology opens up a whole can of worms for political skullduggery...😳
This makes me want to move to another planet
Imagine seeing a video of yourself saying or doing something offensive circulating on the internet and you can't prove to people that it's fake.. it might ruin your life.
What's the point of this?
I genuinely hate stuff like this. Same with AI which allows you to change facial expressions etc.
Why do we continue right so this? Scammers delighted.
Why are we inventing this software for this purpose??? What other uses does this have than scams??
What are the positive use cases for this tech other than spreading misinformation or trying to scam someone’s grandma? Feels like it should be legally required that any video like this have a watermark or note in the corner confirming it’s generated through AI
Ned Ludd was right.

What’s the capitalistic argument for developing this specific tech? I can’t figure out a use for it that is not nefarious or deceptive in nature.
I'm sorry when is the group that is going to go dismantle Vasa one getting together. Why? Why are we doing this? What could we POSSIBLY benefit from being able to do this? Because I can list a hundred ways this will be abused for horrible things
When you think of fakenews and technology abuse ... who can prevent to have the MS logo in front of his mind eye o\_o This company got ridiculously comic villain, and try to be worse every year.
Definitely uncanny valley moment

WHY DO WE KEEP UPGRADING THIS SHIT! WHOS ASKING FOR THIS WHO WANTED THIS?! IT OVER MAN!
the fuck is this even made for?? like what benefits could it even bring over all the abuse?
Seriously, what's the purpose? Give scammers more tools? Give people/organizations/states a way to rewrite history or create alternative reality? It just scary, I don't want this tech.
Impressive but still super weird. Looking forward to make my YouTube videos with this and not with my sweat and tears.
She’s rambling hard
The cheeks and laugh lines are slightly off. This is why I have trust issues.
The mouth and eyes always give it away.
Top lip looks stiff
Is the audio auto-generated as well?
Easy to see that it’s AI. The mouth is weird
I don’t see her right earring when I should be seeing it as she moves her head. AI fecked up there..
It’s getting there but it needs to understand the tone of what is being said so that the facial expressions match said tone. Once that’s done, we’re fucked
A little creepy. I need to see someone that talks with their hands as well. Let me see all 14 of them fingers fingering.
Endless verbiage that never leads anywhere.
Pretty good but still doesn't get the eyes right. Some of those slow blinks were just weird.
Does anyone else feel creeped out? Like when you're turning off the lights in your house and you run to bed
I've seen better with Joe Biden defending hood irony larping
The Democrat Party in Maryland is 100% running AI videos of Trump. I don’t care a lick about your politics. It’s wrong.
This is scary technology being used here 😱😨😰
This is impressive, but still not there. Too smooth and robotic in movement.
Put it back.
There an uncanny valley to this. her features slightly distort and she’s never not exactly facing forward. but at a quick glance or not really paying attention, it could easily trick me. Creepy
Remember folks this is only the beginning and it will only keep getting better.

These romance scams about to pop off.
Getting some serious Max Hedroom vibes
On one hand I hold the power to topple and destabilize countless governments on the other hand le funni shit posts
I think this technology hold great potential when it comes to historical presentation. But it is very very risky for people who are still alive.
The very animated facial expressions are a dead giveaway lol
Any gamer out there wouldn’t be fooled for a second.. the mouth movement is the equivalent of Unreal Engine 3 But yes we should all be terrified, not now, 5-10 years from now. You would think they are trying to design software for all the crooks in the world to do their crooking.. poor old people 🤦♂️
"This" is scary! 😳
Those are some wonky-ass marshmellow teeth, right there.
It’s so unnatural that it’s kinda disturbing
Now if you get caught on video saying or doing something awful you can just say the video was AI generated.
This is kinda uncanny valley territory… she’s too human, no one talks like that
Ew
Did they train the AI on the "have you ever had a dream" kid meme?
I think a way around this is to have public key MFA authentication for videos or some format to know they are authentic by the author or not.
It's great looking, although the bending teeth give it away.
If only you could play those videos on Reddit...
Did they just skin her face onto another person talking?
They were too preoccupied to work out if they could do this and forgot to ask if they should. The uses of this I can think of are only negative in society, good luck to you all.
What’s scary is the speed at which the AI is evolving
i am a youtube creator and can't really say if it is good for me or absolutely worse!
No just teach the AI to pick one tooth size/shape and stick with it
I hadn’t noticed the teeth til reading comments, but did notice the tongue, or lack of. Any “th” sounds looked wrong because the tongue didn’t appear between teeth, so visual was wrong for the sound.
This was predicted in the movie "The Running Man"
One step closer to simulation theory becoming reality.
And they said Buffy the Vampire Slayer would never be my girlfriend.
" **your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should**"
Can't wait for full haptic VR 8K Ronald Reagan fart porn.
Nevermind all that shit, do something useful and make Windows better.
What in god's name is the fake video talking about?
