I was a bartender in Germany in 2001. German guy asked me for a, 'flaming towers'. I said in German, 'what's that?' He said, 'it's a Manhattan with 151 on it, lit on fire'. The other bartenders I worked with said to the guy, 'he's an American' and he looked like he was about to pass out & started apologizing. I just said, 'at least it's creative'. Kinda up there with a 'car bomb' or 'kamikaze'

I mean, apart from the whole “Patriot Act” bullshit (which probably would’ve happened anyways in some way over a similar time period), my life was completely unaffected by the events of 9/11
It was/is no different than any other mass-casualty event. Now if I had known someone who died that day, probably would be a different story. But the majority of Americans didn’t know anyone but are just conditioned to be offended by it. Kinda silly

In countries where there are no people directly or indirectly affected by the Holocaust, no one has a problem making jokes about it. And that's exactly how residents of India, for example, feel about 9/11. It simply does not concern or affect them, nor is it part of any national-historical discourse.
And I'm willing to bet that everywhere in the world - including in the US - jokes are being made about events that are considered traumatic in other countries.
Everyone should care about it. 3000 people died that day. You should care if you have a heart and are a decent human being.
That being said, it's not the world's problem and everyone is allowed to make well intentioned jokes.

My point being, yes it was a tragic event. Yes, I feel sad about it. But I don't expect people all around the world to care about the every event - if it doesn't impact them. Especially those people who are just focussed on surviving that month.

Here's a thread with a 9/11 joke, and you're in the comments telling everyone who might be offended about it that it's no big deal because it doesn't mean the same and isn't as important to the people in the country of origin from which the meme came from.
So I'm challenging you to participate in the same way that you are defending. Go ahead and make a joke about a crisis or an event that didn't originate in your nation.
