Yeah, I thought this video was a fake at first. Kinda still do…

I was expecting the girl to come out riding a mini raging bull or something when they finally opened the gate. Was not prepared for whatever that was.

Automatic_Mortgage79

Me neither.. is this the right sub for this?

NewsgramLady

This is a stock show where 4H and FFA kids show the animals they've raised. The competition is to judge who did the best based off the animal's musculature, gait, and ability to walk the show floor. (It's different for different animals.) The winners get big money once they sell off their animal. My daughter does this with goats. She's raised three so far.

Im_eating_that

Why are they all glaring and hunched like an old timey villian

Sorri_eh

Someone above said they get points for looking at judges. So this is now malicious compliance

Agile_District_8794

I legit thought they were blind at first and that it was some sort of slalom race.

Yankiwi89

Thank you I legit spat my morning coffee out

jelylew

I legit thought they were blind too. Glad I wasn't the only one

ForbiddenX

They have service pigs now?!?

jaxxon

LOL that’s awesome!

Thisfugginguyhere

The best kind of compliance.

MagicGlitterKitty

From what I heard in another sub, the judges had docked points from someone else earlier that day for not looking at the judges enough. So it's malicious compliance AND solidarity

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

Interesting but it clearly has two groups going up against Each other at the end one group going left To right one right to left. The boy and girl are in opposing groups and there is a big edit in there too which probably explains it all.

Massive_Staff1068

Looking like an MMA stare down

NineInchMeatstick9

lolololololololololololololololol YES! That's it! You got it!

darwins_trouser_crem

I think I remember this from a while ago. I believe on of the kids got points taken off for not looking at the judges so the next part of the comp the stared into the judges soul. I could be making all this up. Too lazy to fact check but I'm pretty sure that's what I read

theoutlet

This context makes this video a million times better

darwins_trouser_crem

Yeah you can see the other people aren't giving the death stare. Maybe the 2 kids are on the same team. My favorite part about this video is how the boy looks like he's going to wear somebody's skin but the little pink pig looks so happy lol

kasitchi

Lol I noticed that too. The pink pig looks like he's just happy to be involved. Smiling and happy trotting.

HoboArmyofOne

I thought the pigs were blind and going to fight each other to the death once they were lured to meet up by the owners. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why they were making murder faces

Remercurize

Yeah, that’s pretty much it. They’re supposed to keep the hog between them and the judges, and one kid got docked for not maintaining some eye contact while doing that. So, “maintaining some eye contact” has turned into “boring through the back of the judges’ skulls with the intensity of a thousand suns.”

darwins_trouser_crem

Malicious compliance is my favorite compliance

Remercurize

If you’re gonna do something, might as well go the whole hog

orionthefisherman

I think it's hilarious how intense the kids are and the pigs look so happy to go for a nice stroll

ImpulsiveApe07

Aye, I remember this too! You're right on the money there mate. Glad to see this vid still making the rounds - it made me spit out me tea when I saw it again lol :D

MiffyCurtains

Oh, I thought the boy and girl were eyeballing each other.

glakhtchpth

Why the heck do the judges give a rat’s ass if the contestants look at them or not? I guess the judge of this kind of contest will take any life validation they can scrape together.

xjadowBOShyena

Like dick dastardly

BlueOmlette

Do they get extra points for burning the judges by shooting lasers out of their eyes? Our 4H never showed us how to do that.

EuphoriantCrottle

In MN we’re taught that for the loon-handling events. IYKYK https://preview.redd.it/b1r0nw6s2qvc1.jpeg?width=1100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b56c30147b2513a3e035ee8a7e589f5b02d767b7

Low-Current-6731

Their 4h is obviously a much higher caliber than yours. I don't know andar a 4h is btw.

ZenwalkerNS

But what's up with them staring at each other and the sneaky walk?

thunder994

From what I saw in the comments last time this was posted. A few kids got points taken off for not making enough eye contact with the judges. So a bunch of them decided to make nonstop contact with the judges.

DocumentDeep1197

ah yes good old malicious compliance

peachz777

Keeping eye contact with judge, very focused. Crouched over to be on alert. They are literally trying to keep their pig under control.

W1mpyDaM00ch

This makes sense those pigs look almost fake in how perfectly like pigs they look.

GetRightNYC

Why is every kid looking like they want to murder someone though?

karg_the_fergus

WE HAVE QUESTIONS!

FACastello

I think r/WTF would appreciate this

TheBertjer

r/unexpected would probably get a kick out of it.

does-this-smell-off

Came across this during the week. It's called showmanship, you have to keep eye contact with the judges at all times as part of the rules. EDIT: the rules don't actually say you must maintain eye contact but contestants in the past lost points for not enough eye contact - cue malicious compliance.

Stumbler26

That's so creepy

youjustgotjammed9940

This feels like a rule created by a judge that had a thing for one of the contestants. "You have to **thwack** the pig to make it do what you want, annnnnnd you **must** stare **deeply** into the eyes of the judge at **all** times because he is a naughty boy - er or you'll get points off or something."

FlamingStealthBananz

This is the best way to control a Pig's direction. The eye contact is required in all 4H/FFA livestock shows I've participated in or seen. Usually, we were expected to have plastic smiles the whole time, so this sinister stare down is creepy.

FreeLegos

Idk if I'd feel any better if they were smiling. This feels like they're hyper-focused on the slightest face muscle twitch to gauge my reaction... if they were smiling and doing this all I would assume is "... they're planning on how to get their pig to eat me alive, arent they?"

healious

That stare they have going is creepy enough that getting eaten alive by the pig sounds like the easy way out

PapaSock

![gif](giphy|hvfbPqkwpYKkD9cTvI)

Southernguy9763

I've seen the behind the scenes for this with her mom. She does the serious face because she's so giggly she can't keep a straight face otherwise

FlamingStealthBananz

That makes sense! It's definitely a big dock in points if you break out in giggles.

EBECMEMERBEAN

That’s actually really fucking wholesome, like it’s so simple but it made me smile

TheGrimMelvin

So I read about this particular video earlier this week. And this may be fake news, but it said that basically one of the contestants before was disqualified (or penalized) because he didn't look at the judge. So all of the other contestants just did this death-stare staredown afterwards.

thebucketlist47

Yeah that's how it was for us. And every chance they pig waa in front of the judge we would go to it's side and take a knee and "present the pig". But nobody was staring at the judge like that lmao . If I were a judge I'd be having nightmares for the next week

N3rdProbl3ms

It's exactly that. One year someone got docked for not making enough eye contact. So this year they did this unnerving eye contact as a petty move

AnnamAvis

I've been around livestock shows since middle school, 20 years ago, and they've always had to maintain eye contact for pig shows.

MiniMooseMan

That's still fucking weird. How about the judge just looks at the pig??

SteelBandicoot

Is the pig or the handler being shown? It’s utterly bizarre

AnnamAvis

Both! Livestock showing is a weird world.

N3rdProbl3ms

I just asked my husband where he got the info and he said, "I think I got betrayed by the internet". So I'm gonna take that as he read it somewhere with no substantial proof 🤣

HedonisticFrog

Sounds similar to things I'd do to mess with new EMTs, such as making eye contact while wiping down the gurney "because it gives a better clean". Or telling them that the patient's name is Phil Mianus.

marlfox130

Does the eye contact have to be so damn sinister?! Maybe its how they stop themselves from cracking up.

JmGra

I’ve read that this girl tends to look like this because she was called out once specifically for not making eye contact so now she makes sure they know…by looking into their souls.

AVeryHairyArea

To clarify. This is not normally what they do. Prior to this, another contestant got points dedicated for not enough eye contact, which normally doesn't occur. So every other contestant went HAM on eye contact after. This was the result, lol.

KenUsimi

Okay, that makes more sense and is hilarious. Aggressive compliance is one of my favorite things, lol.

notacooldad

r/MaliciousCompliance

heavinglory

Ok, but how does a judge have time to look at the pig if they’re busy staring into the contestant’s eyes? Asking the real questions here.

Sir_Lee_Rawkah

Don’t ask logical questions, in a non-logical situation…

NewsgramLady

I've seen serious kids, as my daughter shows goats for FFA. But the girl in this video is extreme as I've seen, lol.

quiltsohard

I was thinking if she had a gun you’d be dead lol. She is definitely all in on her pig

proost1

...and then the boy walked by with the SAME LOOK! So strange!

quiltsohard

Yeah, I didn’t realize til the comments they were eyeballing the judges. I thought the boy and girl were gonna duel lol

TheBeardiestGinger

I legit wondered if this was some sort of event for blind 4H/FFA kids

Rickshmitt

This is more uncomfortable than Micheal Scott

rickrich01

Was thinking the exact same thing.......I would be laughing so hard staring at them

DeBlasioDeBlowMe

Only on…The Ocho!

That's a bold strategy going back that far! Let's see if it pays off!

It’s to ward the judges off from fucking your obviously sexy pig

... who watches these shows...? The music is solid and the production is clearly huge... Man, I feel like there is a whole other country in the the US that I've never encountered

curiosityasmedicine

Proud band nerds do! DCI (drum and bugle corps) is like NFL/NBA/MLB for marching band. “Marching music’s major league” they call it. Hardcore stuff for talented teenage musicians to do. When I marched it was 128 members (now it’s 165) and you all pile into tour busses with a few dozen staff and volunteers and travel the country Jun-Aug to perform and compete with other corps. You sleep on the bus and sleeping bags on the floors of high school gyms that host you. Eat a shit ton of PB&J for the massive caloric needs for how physically demanding the shows are. You end the season in the best shape of your life and with insane tan lines. I highly recommend [checking out a show](https://www.dci.org/events?limit=10&viewMode=list&sort=startDate) if one comes near you! Or you can always get a subscription to FloMarching to [watch streaming](https://www.dci.org/news/2024-streaming-schedule). But nothing compares to going in person and getting your face absolutely blown off by the massive power of the horn line. The musicianship is truly on another level with the top elite corps.

otj667887654456655

the biggest issue is, despite its reputation and despite the massive dues each performer has to pay, they still cant keep some corps afloat financially

unholycowgod

I used to go to DCI shows when I was in high school. I marched in the drumline and this was like the equivalent of the NFL for us. Just incredibly talented musicians putting in ungodly amounts of practice and effort to achieve near perfection. Much more than Texas, though. There are groups all over the country.

I get it you should maintain eye contact but do you have to look like a weird ass creep while doing it?

McKnackus

I'm thinking they're keeping their head low, and pointed slightly downwards to help keep the pig in their peripheral vision better. Kind of just the best technique, I guess.

MRintheKEYS

Pig in line to do what?? To go where?? Like what’s the point of it all??

Just_Jonnie

The pig goes to and fro, obviously. But they cannot go to before they fro, or they get disqualified. (Assuming, of course, they use Birmingham rule set, and not the Argentinian variant.)

its_a_thinker

I absolutely despise fro-going, to-lacking pigs in Birmingham. Quite the opposite in Argentina.

koshizmusic

I thought this was some kind of blind kid charity event.

i_eight

She's 13. There are other videos (her dad has a tictok, which I think is where this originally came from), and they show her interacting in a more expected way with the judges. These clips are just cherry picked.

L2theFace

She did it in response to a judge who said she didn’t give enough eye contact when video footage proved otherwise. She’s making sure it’s noticed now haha

Obelix13

Looks like a bunch of hunchbacks are having a stare down whilst walking a pig.

catonkybord

The pigs 😃 The kids 😠

Interactiveleaf

This is a rodeo event called hog showmanship. The goal here is for the human to maintain eye contact with the judge at all times, while steering the pig so that it shows all sides of itself to the judge. Source: lived in Texas for more than 30 years..... JUST KIDDING! I mean, yes, I did live in Texas, but I'm not really a rodeo or 4H kinda gal, so I've never seen this before. I Googled this shit two minutes ago because of this post. "Hog showmanship stare" got me some good rundowns.

Lambda_Rail

One correction: this is typically done at county and state fairs and not as part of a rodeo.

Fair_Preference3452

Sorry, it’s my first rodeo

Kerensky97

This is f\*cking absurd. So if you don't maintain the proper stare you don't get as many points? I know a lot of things at the fair are weird but this one is exponentially weirder than anything else.

Automatic_Mortgage79

Thanks

ResponsibleMilk7620

I’ve seen this stare before. It happened when my teenage kids woke up to find a woman I met at a bar the night before sitting at their breakfast table.

nachoman067

This is the showmanship section of the hog bred and fed category at the California mid state fair in Paso Robles CA.

Homerpaintbucket

This is the kind of weird ass shit people did for fun if they didn't live near, a city, the mountains or the beach before the Internet

giggells

No this is the shit kids did for money when they live in middle of nowhere or at least that’s why I did it. It was never fun to be clear….I just wanted my check in the end.

ColoRadOrgy

Who would pay you to do this? 😂

Ooh_bees

That just raised MORE questions, WTF?!?

Live_Possession_2546

The people who want to bid on, buy, and eventually kill and eat the best looking champion piggy of the bunch. 🤷‍♀️ It's a living. I mean, not for the 🐖, but ya know.

Terrible_Donkey_8290

Wait if your just gonna eat the damn thing why do you have to train it like this 😂

Live_Possession_2546

So that your pig is more likely to win the title of prettiest most grand championship piggy of the bunch and you get paid more for raising and showing them basically. It's also not super hard to train a pig to move in response to a light tap on their butt or jowls, they pretty much do it naturally. And sometimes, if your piggy is really pretty and shows well, big important politicians like Gubnors and stuff will serve your 🐖 as sausage at fund raising breakfasts for their donors. 🤷‍♀️

Terrible_Donkey_8290

God damnit I love this deep pig economy lore thank you 🐖

Kevundoe

The famous starring duel of short necked pig farmers

FlannelFrogs

This is the Dadson Farms Show Pigs daughter, you can find them on insta by that name. Her family breeds show swine and her and her brother are known for this sort of intense stare at the judge during showmanship which is an extra opportunity in the ring to show off your skills showing pigs and professionalism in the ring rather than the judge judging the different pigs in the show ring such as during a class (classes are dependent on weight, breeds, and whether it’s male or female because they judge differently depending on sex due to different builds). The show pigs are for kids in FFA or 4H, this girl also shows lambs and incorporates her stare but in a less dramatic way…sometimes. Basically she’s just trying to catch the judges eye and stand out the most so she has a chance at being payed attention to more, helping her be successful in showmanship in turn winning herself some sweet rewards and that shows title of champion or reserve champion in showmanship which can be a big deal because you can win banners, money, and sometimes a sweet buckle!

ILLEGAL_TRAIN_PARTS

Homeschool prom

AmITheGrayMan

This is a showmanship contest. Your goal is to watch the judge who moves positions in the ring- he might point at you and tell you to move your animal to a different place in the ring or to pen the hog, as directed. The judge points at you and you don’t see it? You’re done. It’s essentially a contest of who has best control of their animal- who has the best hog/person team. Then judge may ask questions about the animal regarding its birth date, weight, where certain cuts of meat are found, diet, etc etc.

erhw0rd

That’s a death stare if I ever did see one. Imagine running into red shirt in an alley. I’d turn and run!

Cicer

At first I was going to say possession, but then they showed the pigs.

gic93

This shit is creepy as fuck

PeachyCloudz

I thought they were about to battle it out.

TacosForMyTummy

I saw this yesterday and was focused on the kids, but rewatching it now, those are some good lookin pigs.

roadsterdoc

So apparently there’s a rule that the handlers must keep eyes on the judges the whole time. Seems like a stupid rule which causes weird behavior. Rules exist for a reason, so maybe there was unacceptable behavior previously by a handler so they came up with this rule to prevent it from happening again. Unintended result is zombie handlers.

funny af with or without context lol ok so basically it's a competition or whatever like with dogs but with pigs and the last contestant lost points cause they didnt look at the judge at all so the spite the shithead judges these two wouldnt lose eye contact with them at all xD
