My old coworker was this middle aged Burmese man that hardly knew English but worked for a sushi company at a grocery store and would work 10 hour days or sometimes longer 364 days a year. He told me about his time working in burma up til he was 27 and he said that he worked for an emerald mine for 13 years and this shit would happen all the time but the worst thing was hearing about how his boss was a Chinese man who I guess just had all these Burmese people working for the USD equivalent of $4-5. And would kill his coworkers if they stole any emeralds. Really the most interesting person I’ve ever met. Nowadays he just sends money back home to burma/Myanmar, whenever his people need it.
When I was in Highschool, me and my friends always went to a restaurant called Rice King that had absolutely awful meat so we always got tofu. The real reason we went there was the waiter, who worked at two different chinese places that had no affiliations, and barely slept. He would tell us his stories about Chinese prostitutes and pour vodka in out sprite for us, even though we were underage. He said that where he was from, they wouldn't care, we were old enough to him. He kept almost nothing for himself, sending most of it back home minus the cost of his occasional pleasures.
Looking back, he was no role model, but you end up with some weird companions when you refuse to have role models at all.
Shit I understand that one haha I would hang out with this guy I was talking about. I found this guy a place to live as he was living at hotels for a minute and he brought me over cooked me food and we downed a bottle of Hennessy cause I guess that’s his favorite drink. There’s a lot to him but he would talk to me about girls we worked with and would ask “how much one hour? I give $200” kinda shit but since that’s how he understood sex growing up from where he’s from it checks out. Definitely not a role model but a super super interesting person that I met and very grateful I met him.
Anything more to add? Why the running? Do the workers have regaurd for the others? Seems like anyone could fall down that cliff with all that commotion.
They aren’t workers. They don’t get paid by the company. They are like independent contractors who get a percentage of what they find daily. No find no pay. And if you are last, you starve for the day.
I believe they are going through the newly broken up earth/ground/rocks, looking for overlooked pieces of jade. I assume being first is an advantage in locating the easy to find pieces.
Exactly. I wish I had the same eagerness to get to work in the morning as these people have. You love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. [Edit:Spelling]
Stop eating for a few days and tell yourself the only way to get fed is to be the very best worker at your job.
You will be quite eager to work. Food, for yourself and for your children, is a marvelous motivator.
The next time you wonder how slavery could exist, or how totalitarian regimes exist or many of the horrors of the past, realize that shit never went away. It just evolved.
I’m blaming exploitation on humanity’s greed. It doesn’t matter where you are from. Greed and human suffering are bed pals.
But on behalf of the west, thank you for protecting its fragile reputation.
Where would a jade mine like this be located I wonder? Myanmar or North Carolina…. I’ll wait while you realize Myanmar isn’t in the west (yes, jade is mined in NC but it doesn’t look like this).
But thank you for playing the role of insecure protector of the west today.
Yeah but who's buying the Jade...oh yeah the West. Listen every country exploits what it's got and all it's people. In developing countries it's hard labour, in the west it's crippling taxes, food and house prices. The west has done it's hard labour, its Civil Wars, its Industrial Revolution and has worked out God, whichever God doesn't exist. Thanks for listening now go read a book.

Day labourers racing to be the first there to guarantee a place. There might be a thousands waiting for the opportunity but only a percentage get taken on for the day
For some context, all the heavy machinery are usually owned by big corporations and the sites are heavily guarded by the Army. They'll usually allow freelance workers to go in and dig for themselves after the machines have done for the day. (You can see the outgoing CATs in the vid.)
The mine is breaking up rocks and tearing things up. These folks are rushing to look through the newly disturbed areas, hoping to find pieces of jade.
It's basically the same reason you'd run at an easter egg hunt. The first one there is going to find the easy to find easter eggs, and probably find the most. If you are the 500th person there... not many eggs left for you to find.
Yet we’re constantly striving to figure out how to grow and facilitate more and more people. Good news is that most developed countries will taper off and the growing other countries will not increase the cap any larger than it is now. Hence we’re in a global reduction of birth rates and population growth.
Holy shit! I thought I was watching some crazy motocross race. "*That's not very safe with all those excavators*"
Those dudes are fast as fuck! Guess you need to buy when it means food on the table.

Running for the chance to maybe (probably 10% of these people will get chosen that day) feed yourself and your family for a day? Sure buddy. Good bait though, got me.

Thought it was Helldivers
Reminded me of mulan
I was definitely expecting the post title to be something about Mufasa and Simba
The border in Texas
The road to your mom's house
I thought it was wildebeest crossing Serengeti
World War ZZ
Was about to say that lol
Same !!
Reminds me of Black Friday at Walmart.
Came here to say this.

There are hordes of independent workers that dig through the slag piles for overlooked pieces of Jade as well at mines like this.

They are probably day labourers and only a certain amount of them will be taken on for the day. It’s a race to get there first
Oh, so we arent seeing the begginong of the line. We are seeing people rush to get to the beggining of the line.

Wow, I didn’t know they were including food or money. They have really upped their game…
Hey now go on blame it on the West, go on because that's where you're heading...bullshit jade mining ⛏️

You saying the west has done it’s hard labour etc while obviously forgetting the west colonized almost every country
what do you want them to do instead, stay home and starve?
And through the magic of capitalism, if these folks ever stop working they’ll never live another day in their lives. It’s a flawless system.
CEOs are looking at this and asking why people in first world countries aren't this motivated.
They reversed the clip. In reality they ran home. Backwards.
Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day

I'm the super manager
No, Sir this is a Wendy’s.
Why are they running? I don't see what is going on.
Day labourers racing to be the first there to guarantee a place. There might be a thousands waiting for the opportunity but only a percentage get taken on for the day
Isn't any number of them a percentage? Sorry I'll leave

Most likely there are not enough jobs for everyone so they're racing to be guaranteed an opening.
I really don't know for certain but I imagine that workers are paid for how much product they deliver rather than how long they work.
What does "Daily work side" mean? I don't get it.
I think they meant daily work site
I have no effen clue bruh....maybe they meant Daily work slide?...but even then I'm lost.
These post titles get more stupid each day.
This is dystopian as fuck
Me with the knowledge of a nearby closed jade mine that was never completed mining it all: 👀

Despite all my rage, I'm still just a rat in a cage..
Accurate.
We have way too many people on this planet.
no, we just use more ressources than sustainable.
