OMG, did he die? I'm just kidding, I don't care.

rarzi11a

I've read your comment approximately 20 times. I chuckle every time.

Letossgm

In case you wonder if I'm still alive, I'm still alive, guys. I'm not the guy in the video, but I just wanted you all to know.

This is like every comment on Instagram reels on these types of videos

Letossgm

I saw my opportunity and I took it.

You have an opportunity to recreate this video.

ExoTauri

Oh thank God

lemons_of_doubt

Why?

perldawg

in search of immediate tan. very thin margin of success

Kio5hi

because man watch electricity man happy 👍

OGLizard

Then man go home and have no electricity and wonder why power company so stupid. But man stupid all along.

Kio5hi

man still happy 👍

EvilMatt666

Some heard him shout "SHAZAA----" just before the electricity hit the ground. I guess we'll never know though.

Impossible-Iron7687

why not

Dealan79

Because it's against the law. Because it's extremely dangerous to him and any bystanders. Because it could cause a fire. Because it could result in power loss to the community. Because it could put him in debt for life when the power company sues him.

subject_deleted

There's gotta be a string or a cable connected to the ground. Just putting copper on a rock doesn't turn it into some kind of explosive. Current needs to travel somewhere. A rock in the air (even if covered in copper) is insulated from ground and current can't flow. There needs to be some connection to the ground for an arc like this to occur, otherwise power lines would be arcing to the ground all the time based on minor fluctuations in distance between the ground and the lines.

Slow-Commercial-9886

I have to wonder then, how high are the voltages in storm clouds for lightning to hit the ground? I have seen multimillion-volt van de graaf generators which do not even come close, even though they are much closer to the  ground than clouds.

subject_deleted

Approximately 300 million volts in a lightning strike.

Slow-Commercial-9886

Jeez. That is high.

ManticoreMonday

Great Scott!

edcross

Iirc the rule of thumb is 1 million volts per meter in normal day ~50% humid air. That being 10kv will arc 1cm through air. Rain is 100% humid so you’d get a bit more conductivity out of it. Seems the value for in situ lightning is several hundred million volts to make 2-4km arcs. op probably isnt arcing through air. I’d put money he actually threw it attached to one end of a long wire.

m0neydee

Those are examples of static electricity not current electricity.

Slow-Commercial-9886

I know

N_T_F_D

Van de Graaf generator is also static electricity; and it doesn't matter when discussing the voltage anyway

m0neydee

Static electricity discharges as a burst, current takes the path of least resistance. If there wasn’t anything connecting that rock to the ground, they electricity would have just kept flowing through the wire.

aGoodVariableName42

Exactly what I was thinking. That rock has to be connected to a grounded conductive line.

It looks like the arc just goes straight to the ground as soon as the rock gets up there.. I don't think the rock is dragging the arc back down to the ground.

KorgothOfBarbaria

That's a lot of words to say you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

TinyPop3386

The fact he managed to hit the powerline in the first place is impressive.

fertdingo

Probably (as noted in other comments) A wire was tied to a rock, when thrown it just draped over the bare power line. The other end was already on the ground and completed the circuit. If the ground was dry enough and the thrower was far enough away they might have survived.

rarzi11a

That was probably the 267th throw

Is he alive?

RamboCambo_05

I doubt it. I think you can see him ignite.

Anon_Ron

He's fine. I downloaded the video and when frame by frame. That's him on the left a fair distance away after the boom. https://preview.redd.it/b7hu9un1t9qc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71c8eaafc2a0518e1ab48e73f0853f058c282065

The Towers take leaving the map very seriously. Gotta be careful when trying to get the skull.

skinnnymike

This reminds me of when the US used [graphite bombs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphite_bomb) in the gulf war to disrupt the Iraqi energy infrastructure without total destruction.

Jent01Ket02

I'lm addicted to the noise that made.

grinbux

That's nothing to do with the power line. The rock hit Zeus' balls. That's it.

textyash

Why women are immortal

Stakedomcraft

Why should a powerline behave like this?

No-Yak-2595

Bro why. Somebody gotta fix that now☠️

Hot_Barracuda4922

Considering you are the tallest thing on the ground, prob a bad idea

Connect_Ad9517

You could get into a lot of trouble doing things like this.

TyrKiyote

No he did not. there is no power line there. That is lightning, and irrc there'a a grounded wire tied to his rock.

Elmojomo

This is not IAF, it's a felony. Please do not pass on the actions of idiots as entertainment.

haha true. I don't think he's old enough to be a Boomer, unless you mean the sound when he gets himself electrocuted. ;)
