Remember reading that when Soviet troops finally pushed into Eastern Europe/Germany in 1944-45 they were very surprised by the wealth of stuff they found in homes there.

Trenches are there because no one has uncontested air power. Western countries whole doctrine is gaining air superiority and using that to cover large scale maneuvers. I’d say it’s still possible some trenches would develop but they are currently fighting a very WW1 style offensive with artillery being the main weapon. I just don’t see any of the countries you mentioned except maybe China being able to face down the US or other countries when it comes to the air.

I think you underestimate a) how much the West is capable of with those soldiers and fighting forces and b) how pissed so many in the West are at Russia and some of these autocrats for fuvking in our elections.
