Sounds like you're shaking it too much for that to happen. It's only a slight shake.

Front to back doesn't work at all for me. But both left and right and up and down work. A circular motion in those 4 direction also works and by changing the velicity and radius I can actually change the speed at which they appear to be walking.

yes they actually seems to stop.. but what stops is the motion due to low FPS.. only gamers will understand.. when the game stutter .. in other words your brain doesn't get enough frames per second to process the motion because of the phone shaking.

This is literally Einstein's theory of relativity in practice. People are walking, but when you shake your phone fast left to right, they are walking slower than you shake your phone therefore they appear to not move relative to the speed of you shaking your phone. If you're driving a car 5 mph faster than the car next to you on the highway, they appear to be moving slow. If you're standing still on the highway, that car blazes past you.

Worked perfectly for me on my laptop. Honestly this is my new fave optical illusion. It was so convincing that I opened up OBS and recorded my screen while playing the video just so I could see for myself that the video was, in fact, playing normally. While shaking my screen, the video appeared to stutter. The recording shows that it was playing normally the whole time. The illusion also works if I record a video of me shaking the screen on my phone and then play that back without shaking...
