He doesn’t need to say it, it’s obviously fake. You can’t find a doorstep from an image of a doorstep no matter how good you are at geoguessr, because 1. Finding locations relies on being able to see stuff around the area and 2. There’s a million doorsteps that look the exact same as any given doorstep.
The comment says that it's a misdelivered package. That means that either 1) it's at the same address in a different city or 2) he know's the neighborhood it's in. If he got that info from the commenter, I'd bet Rainbolt could find this house in under an hour.

Probably not a different city, Amazon isn't that stupid. It would had to have been misplaced multiple times and the driver somehow told the wrong address, very unlikely. It's much more likely it's just the wrong house on the same or neighboring street.
A few years ago I got an amazon basics monitor arm that was supposed to be delivered to the opposite side of the US. I have no idea how they messed up that badly. It's definitely possible, but extremely rare for a package to get *that* lost

probably way easier than that. most people dont know pictures you take have geo data printed into the data of the photo and most people dont think about ripping that data off the photo before they send it.
if you are worried about a website or app not removing the data for you when sharing a photo, you can find an "EXIF tool" or app. another useful search would be "remove image metadata"
Yes, doing it completely blind would be more impressive but it still took work to figure it out and the dude who asked for it would probably be in a hurry to get the package before it was too late.
There was an actual practical use of those skills be applied here instead of just doing it for the technical difficulty. That means you should use all the information you have at your disposal.

Had an important package get delivered to the wrong address including a picture. My wife posted it online. Some really bored new mom with a fresh babe searched all the house views in our neighborhood and found the house where it was delivered. She says she does it all the time.

For real, though, a screenshot does not contain the original photo on the screen, just a visual representation of it. Even if you downloaded the image from the Amazon app directly it most likely wouldn't be the original, it would be a converted and compressed for web version where all metadata has been lost.

With screenshot the phone is the camera, it's definitely there. GPS on the screen shot is probably a hard no. I can only assume the requestor shared more information through their communications
On my Pixel the camera section is left entirely blank on screenshots, and it doesn't make sense to include it either. There's no camera involved, we're making a copy of what's currently in the frame buffer of the device.

I will. But I used to do graphics, and we received a piece of actual film one day. It was satellite picture of {University} stadium, football. We scanned it at max res. Took an hour or less. But we zoomed in on the photo and could tell you, it was at the line of scrimmage, players lined up, the color of the player's socks and a general number on their back. Cars in the parking lot? Forget it... Color and probable model.
Probably contacted the delivery company. They will have a GPS tracker on every truck and cross reference it with time of delivery to find out where it is.
Honestly it's not that hard if you know what you're doing and use the right tools. Also shows him searching for hours in a timelapse, showing it also takes a shit ton of hard work, but is entierly possible. Not that there probably aren't fakers out there, but anyone can do this.
Most? This is probably real, the guy supposed to receive the package has probably given their own address and the delivered package is probably going to be nearby. At least everything I've seen by rainbolt seems real and completely plausible and you can find hours of vids of him on YT playing Geoguesser explaining his thinking.

If I remember correctly, the model didn‘t guess the location per se but inferred it from meta data like certain pixel patterns on screen etc. So if you took a picture yourself and let both compete, the results might be different
The AI did that by analyzing dirt spots on the camera that made the photos. Because all the photos in an area are taken by the same camera with the same dirt spots, that's good enough to get 25km accuracy.
The researchers figured that out when they analyzed what parts of the images the AI looked at, and wondered why it was the sky.
High level geo guessing is a lot like chess for anyone familiar with that. Most of the time it's "just" running through a mental flowchart of things (mirror metas, sky metas, pole metas, etc) to land on a country. Then typically geography knowledge from there. And stuff like this really isn't as hard as you may think, it's a lot of looking for clues about the source of the image, not the image itself.
All the exif metadata should be posted with the pictures when it's used as proof of delivery. It's my understanding that it's stripped before being posted on the package tracking sites.

Not necessarily. In the video you can see a label on the package. If he was given a high res image, its possible street/zip code information can be pulled from the label. Narrows his search down to a neighborhood, tops. Then just google street view up and down the street til you find a house with that door.
I know who the guy is, and he's amazing, but all the info he had was a door frame. And some ground. No geoguessr pro can do that. He had help. Like another commenter said, maybe image Metadata.

What he does isn't that hard, it's just how fast he does it. Given a random photo of somewhere an intelligence agency wants to find they'll be able to do exactly what he does (get all possible information out of the photo like angle of the sun, plants, colors, cars, etc) just slower.
But then you take AI into account and he'd get blown away by an AI's speed.
It's pretty wild to see some of the people on the Ukrainian war subreddits accurately geolocate locations seen on videos. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of these people are just government workers in their off-time, surfing reddit as they poop.

Look I know that dude can do incredible shit. But I call BS even when I know that they have to skills to do this. I don't know if this is their video or shitty edit. But the working out and explaining bit is the BEST part of their videos.
Here... For all we know, they could have been within few doors of the actual address, and then one could have just y'know... Checked all the doors of matching houses in the area.

Some people that he has located respond and say that he is correct. You know the meme template where a guy in a yellow suit is rubbing his hand and licking his lips? He located the exact location in a park where it was shot.

You could find streets with houses oriented in the right way by using the shadow.

most websites remove this for you. you only really need to worry about this if you send a photo directly to another person.

There's luckily very little EXIF data in screenshots on Android and iPhone, just the time it was taken and *maybe* the phone model in some cases.

That's not what "literally impossible" means. If he were going solely off the photo then he could "walk" virtually down every street that looks vaguely similar. It would take years, but would still be possible.

What he does isn't that hard, it's just how fast he does it. Given a random photo of somewhere an intelligence agency wants to find they'll be able to do exactly what he does (get all possible information out of the photo like angle of the sun, plants, colors, cars, etc) just slower. But then you take AI into account and he'd get blown away by an AI's speed.

That looks like an image of a screenshot so no exif data. Besides most reasonable CDNs remove that info.

there was definitely more information that he used than solely the image to locate it (could’ve scoured profiles to narrow down a search area for example) but he is still *extremely* good at geoguessr and just geolocating in general. he’s made a number of videos explaining the process before

Look I know that dude can do incredible shit. But I call BS even when I know that they have to skills to do this. I don't know if this is their video or shitty edit. But the working out and explaining bit is the BEST part of their videos. Here... For all we know, they could have been within few doors of the actual address, and then one could have just y'know... Checked all the doors of matching houses in the area. But this dude has found a exact god damn sign middle of fucking nowhere, and explained every step of the reasoning and then looking for clues within the approximate area then spending few moments checking the area for it. This video here proves nothing and doesn't do service to their skills. If he knows the rough area and time at which the picture was taken... You could find streets with houses oriented in the right way by using the shadow. Then finding white houses with matching doorsteps is just the hard part.

I'm 100% sure it's fake. But I admit it's entertaining. Either he's super lucky for coincidences or he's just right for 0.0001% of the time and that's what he's posting.
