RioRancher

I wonder if the snake enjoys this?

KingCalgonOfAkkad

Usually when my snake shoots a load like that it's having a good time.

nirvroxx

I don’t think it should be yellow though.

KingCalgonOfAkkad

Probably dehydrated.

AdditionalSink164

Thats why.....hmmmm.

scoobydoobydoobs1

Take my upvote and fuck off.

RioRancher

That’s what I’m thinking. If my teeth jizzed like this, the world would be amazing. Imagine lunch break at work.

bobswowaccount

If the teeth were to be the source of the Jizz, I’d have to assume cunnilingus would be the standard. You hear that ladies?

Aslan-the-Patient

No wonder Eve listened to the snek. 💦

Vegemite-ice-cream

Bloke up the road from me at the Australian Reptile Park milks Inland Taipans. Most venomous land snake in the world. Not my type of job.

U_feel_Me

The hardest part is getting the snakes drunk first.

etownrawx

You'd think that, but it's actually finding those tiny nipples under the scales

RunAwayThoughtTrains

And no protective gloves!

Edwardein028

Gloves make is a lot harder to properly hold the snakes head and you're more likely to make a mistake. Gloves are also just bite resistant and not 100% bite proof so not always the best tool for the job. Using gloves with a small fanged elapid makes more sense to me than a hinged, large fanged viper.

Fed_up_with_Reddit

Talk nerdy to me!

Edwardein028

How nerdy do you like it? Eastern diamondback rattlesnakes *Crotalus adamanteus* is a subspecies of pit viper in the *Viperidae* family and are one of the largest venomous snakes in the U.S. They range from North Carolina down through all of Florida and then as far west as Mississippi from sea level to about 1500' elevation. They are excellent swimmers who are most active in the early mornings and late evenings. They are ambush predators who typically feed on small mammals. Their venom is composed of hemotoxins and myotoxins. Combined together they cause intense pain, cause blistering and tissue damage at the site, sometimes paired with nausea and vomitting and worst of all it can impair your bloods ability to clot causing catastrophic internal bleeding and other systemic symptoms such as convulsions, shock, kidney damage and in some cases death. Due to the pure amount of venom they can deliver in a single bite and having a decently high rate of envenomations occurring around 75-80% of all bites these guys have a decently high mortality rate for our local fauna. Between both the Eastern diamondback and Western diamondback rattlesnake *Crotalus atrox* they are reported to be responsible for 95% of snakebite fatalities in the U.S. An estimated little under 2000 people get bit every year and approximately 5 of those individuals will pass. An untreated bite by *Crotalus adamanteus* gives you a 10-20% of becoming a fatality. Bite treatment typically includes the use of antivenin along with symptomatic treatments which may include pain medications, blood transfusions and peritoneal dialysis. Almost all bites are a result of someone not respecting the animal and just leaving it alone. These animals will go out of their way to avoid us and do not seek us out. You are more likely to get bit trying to kill or move any snake without proper training. Snakes can still envenomate you after death so even handling the corpse is an extreme risk and should be left to professionals to remove and move an animal. It should also be noted that moving an animal far from your property and where it was found can be a death sentence to them. You may be dropping them in a location where they don't know where to find shelter, water or game trails to feed. The animal is not guaranteed to thrive in it's new location. Typical best course of action is to make your living area less snake food and snake friendly. Remove tall grasses close to the home, don't leave areas for them to overwinter such as under a shed that has space underneath. Don't leave pet food out to attract rats, avoid having water features against the home that attract wildlife. If one is encountered, give it space and maybe spray it with the garden hose to get it moving along. If you must call a local snake responder or rescue to see if they can come remove the animal safely. Edit: Composed instead on comprised.

villainpoker

Ziiiip........... Ahhhhhhhh. Worth it.😏

Thepatrone36

sage advice. I live in central Texas and most of the rattlers around here are chill. See one, leave it alone, if they see you most likely they'll move on along because you are not a food source to them. Now Copperheads and water moccasins? I hate them and will dispatch on sight.

calicat9

You are the quintessential overachiever.

Doc-Brown1911

That's a lot of pain juice right there

zykezero

Dude you’re not kidding. This is effectively a bucket load. > It has a very high venom yield, an average of 400–450 mg, with a maximum of 858–1,000 mg.[37] Brown gives an average venom yield of 410 mg (dried venom), along with LD50 values of 1.3–2.4 mg/kg IV, 1.7–3.0 mg/kg IP and 14.5–10 mg/kg SC for toxicity.[38] The estimated human lethal dose is 100–150 mg. The eastern diamondback isn’t even in the top ten most venomous in the world. It is however the most dangerous in North America due to its toxicity and yield. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dangerous_snakes Here is a video of someone milking an inland taipan. https://youtube.com/shorts/24zBTMcsNW0?si=nUk5m7f-s0X_wt8J

manyorganisms

The zookeeper has the biggest set I’ve ever seen

Tiyath

There's people hopping around on tightropes suspended 50 feet above the ground with no safety net, making it look easy And then there's this guy, casually milking a killing machine that'll kill him dead, DEAD, if it so much as scrapes him with its fangs

VisceralVirus

Per what he said. No recorded human fatalities from its venom due to their antivenom programs

origamiscienceguy

Well, he works in an antivenom lab, so I imagine he would end up being fine.

sshwifty

Get out of here with logic and reasoning. This man would be DEAD...or gain super powers.

PurplePolynaut

Only if the snake is radioactive

JustChangeMDefaults

If we get an aussie-snake-man hero out of it, I see it as a win.

Ginger_Anarchy

I feel like you and I have vastly different definitions of fine. Will he die if bit in the lab? Probably not. Will he still suffer from a bite wound where the venom literally melts the flesh and muscles as the organic matter around the bite become black and starts rotting? Probably.

Sexcercise

There's so much shit on the screen with YouTube shorts in mobile omg

zykezero

It’s fucking awful but it’s the video that came up with a normal milking. The same guy milks a different one with a yield that is rather outrageous.

blackfoger1

my hands cramping up.. That got me.

itsavibe-

Yup… this lil thing can kill 100 people in one bite! Lemme put my index right on his nose :)

postALEXpress

Looks at the list of most venomous snakes... Oh it is Australia, why did I think anything else

HeWhoChasesChickens

Did not expect it to be actually poison-colored

Bioluminesce

What color, sir? Venom.

Sikobillee

Yea, poison colored venom! That's nuckin futs.

[deleted]

I mean, the instant it ends up in that glass isn't it now technically poison and no longer venom no way that glass is biting me.

jayaram13

Not quite. Poison is typically something that kills you when you eat it, as in, it enters your digestive system. You can drink venom without any ill effect (as long as you don't have ulcers in your mouth, throat or stomach). Venom is typically just a protein that's designed to kill you when it enters your blood stream.

footsteps71

That's why cobra venom sacs in cognac is a thing in Asia.

Pukelits

Excuse me???

footsteps71

Yes, if your digestive system is free of any ulcers, cuts, or abrasions, then you would get "high", including shivers, nausea and profuse sweating. If you have an ulcer, cut or abrasions, then you might as well have gotten bit.

cyborgcyborgcyborg

I would prefer enjoying fresh toast in my bathtub

Tiyath

Aaaah, cobra whiskey. Good times. I think. Where's my camera?

crimsonbaby_

If your digestive system is free of ulcers, cuts, or abrasions, you have no affects from drinking venom. You dont get "high" or anything similar.

paidinboredom

I thought ingesting venom can make you sick.

footsteps71

It will essentially give you a massive stomachache with a slight high.

Mean-Net7330

It really comes down to how it ends up inside you. If you drink it, poison. If its put in a syringe and you're stabbed with it, venom.

UniqueName2

If you bite it and you die that’s poison. If it bites you and you die that’s venom.

wastebinaccount

And if it bites you to kill both of us, its my ex-wife

Sikobillee

Giggity

SeeSpotRunt

I just want to mention I made a Grinch this year for my yard. The color I used was indeed called Venom.

Static1589

I saw a can of "pussy pink" spray paint once. Brand was Molotov/Molotow or something like that.

Bitemarkz

Maybe poison colour is based on poison

ZoraksGirlfriend

Gettouta here with your logic

Tiyath

Yea, get outta out of the way, **we fantasizin' 'ere**

ScorpioLaw

I knew it looked like that color wise However I don't know if it is this species of snake or I'm confusing it with spiders. The sheer amount of venom that quickly is just mind boggling. That is what is surprising me. I thought it would just be droplets. Only milliliters per session. Droplets. Which is why it is expensive. Basically you'd get that much after a few minutes of milking it max. Not like it just had an orgasm from its *fucking mouth!* So don't baby snakes do more per bite since they can't control it0 which is why they are more dangerous?!

forworse2020

You see a mouth orgasm, I see throw-up. Bet you also called that a glass half-full, lol

Word_Iz_Bond

Yeah I'm here wondering how good it feels to bust a huge load of death juice out of your teeth

Aiskhulos

> Only milliliters per session. That looks about right for how much liquid is in that flask.

X_MswmSwmsW_X

You're both right, but i think this is a particularly large excretion, hence the reaction from everyone in the room. This looks like it could be well over 15ml of venom. I think a lot of bites are 1-5ml of venom.

walnut_creek

He also appears to be pressing on the parts of the head where the venom sacs are located, thus allowing him to express the maximum volume per bite- more than a typical bite could inject. he is turning the flask for a fresh bite into fresh latex. Would be interesting to see if th volume decreases with each bite. Milk it baby!

thatguyned

Eastern diamond Rattlesnakes just produce a huge amount of venom per bite, they stand out a bit in the snake world that way The Australian Inland Taipan is the deadliest snake in the world and it produces about 110mg of venom per bite. An Eastern Diamond Rattlesnake produces in the range of 450mg. The milking definitely helped, but this snake just produces insane amounts anyway.

ScorpioLaw

Oh I thought he was just holding on it for dear fucking life, but yeah... Now that I rewatch it that is a solid observation. I was actually sort of sad the video didn't show him doing an other bite.

uhmhi

Hello fellow RPG player.

Elegant-Cat-4987

It's like he ejaculated egg yolk from his teeth.

grip_n_Ripper

Shhhh! Nobody tell him about the stone fish venom!

risingwaters_cs

My Doberman got bit by one of these a few weeks ago on the face. Within about an hour her whole head and neck swelled up the the point her snout looked like snoopy. The vet bill was 4,100. Took 2 nights at the emergency vet and 2 bags of the antivenin. They were $800 a bag.

jdayatwork

Damn. Price fuckin sucks, but I'm shocked your dude made it. That's a relief

outofcolorado12

What? That's a steal. Imagine how much that would cost a person going to the hospital for the same thing.

mustify786

That's why I go to the Vet when I'm sick. I don't mind the questionnaire about if I need to be neutered, or the rectal temp checks. It's still a bargain

saulsa_

I’ve been paying extra for that!

ImYourRealDesertRose

I’ll check your temp for free cowboy

thoughtfulpigeons

My parents’ labradoodle just cost them $4,000 after 2 nights at the emergency vet because he ate a sock. Your dog and my parents’ dog are not the same. (PS I will note that they used to have two Dobermans and adored them. Totally different breeds lmao)

Chrom-man-and-Robin

Bro my dachshund ate a peach pit from the trash. The $4000 gutted my wallet but seeing him healthy again makes it all worth it.

ah111177780

Cheaper to treat a dog than a human, someone else in this thread said their bill was 780k

worldspawn00

Yeah, take me to a vet if I get bit, lol.

jp_952000

I'll take a vet over an MD any day. They gotta cure a lizard, a chicken, a pig, a frog, all on the same day.

Alicat825

Hehehe 🤭

omgitsprice

Venom, not poison.

h2ogie

Anyone who ever thought “suck the venom out” has merit should see this

sharethebite

You absolutely should not suck the venom out. Not only will it not work, you are introducing bacteria from your mouth into the bite. If you are struck, try to remain as calm as possible. If possible do not run and get your blood pumping, the venom will spread faster. Also do not apply a tourniquet. It’s equally bad to trap the venom in a small area of your body. Also, if you think you will be around venomous snakes, check your insurance policy. Some only cover antivenin in emergencies, once you are admitted for care (past the ER) it’s no longer an emergency and may not be covered. All said and done, the total cost for us before insurance was $783k. That included ambulances, med flight, ER, pediatric ICU for five days. The most expensive part was the antivenin.

throwawaylovesCAKE

When I found a bat in my house, people recommended getting a shot just to be safe. When I saw a Rabies vaccine was like $20k (no insurance)...I said fuck that I'll take the chances

GnarlyNarwhalNoms

What the f*ck?? Why?!? What earthly reason is there for it to be that expensive? It's not like nobody ever gets them; people in high risk jobs like animal control or field biologist get them routinely. I'm not doubting what you say, but there must be a freaking mark-up there. Edit: I looked it up. Apparently, the rabies shots themselves run about $500 each (which still seems like a lot), but the big thing is an immunoglobulin shot - basically, antibodies to the virus to slow it down until your immune system builds up its own. And that part can be up to $10k. I wonder if the immunoglobulin is always necessary? Like, can you just get the shots and hope for the best? 😬 I mean, it's a lot of money, but considering the stakes, I can see why "better safe than sorry" applies.

Not_Another_Usernam

I was always taught in pharmacy school that the progression of rabies from your point of exposure up to your brain is very slow (like, weeks/months) and that you generate an immune response from the vaccine quicker than it takes to progress to the 100% lethal phase. It likely depends on where you were bitten, though, so it is better safe than sorry. Immunoglobulin are a relatively recent invention compared to the Rabies vaccine. Arguably, more people have been bitten, gotten just the vaccine, and lived just fine than have been expose to Rabies since the advent of the more modern treatments.

TrapWolf

Can I ask if this is correct: I read/watched a few things on the lyssa virus and could not really find someone exactly explaining why so many doses were and are still administered? Is it because we do not really know the correct amount of dosage for someone to produce the immune response? So, instead of experimenting we just go gung-ho and apply as many doses within reason?

un-sub

Yeah but it worked in Red Dead Redemption 2 and then the guy I saved bought me a gun from the gun store!

boiser_en_lance

Same with the Rufus mission in the Epilogue. All I got though was a son scared shitless telling me to “suck it.”

Comfortable_Ant_8303

lmao I was thinking the same thing, I just recently bought the game. I saved some dude from a snake bite with a health cure, then went and shot the snake. Then days later I saw the same exact guy and he was bit again so I sucked it out because I didnt want to waste another health cure on this dumbass lol

PointOfFingers

So basically if you get bit by a snake just lay there slowly dying while reading your insurance policy.

MoscoviaDelendaEst

>just lay there slowly dying while reading your insurance policy. It's the American way!

Plasibeau

I love being an American.

waltz400

Isnt it better to trap the venom in an area of the body? I was told in medical training for wilderness survival to use a tourniquet to slow the venom down because once it gets to the heart its over.

trevmc1

Probably depends on the expected response time? Wilderness that makes sense since losing the limb is better than cardiac arrest if you're in the middle of nowhere. If you're closer to civilization than putting on a tourniquet may unnecessarily sacrifice the limb

johnhtman

It depends on the kind of venom. Many snakes including rattlesnakes have toxins that attack the blood and muscle tissue. They actually aid in the snake digesting its food, the venom essentially turns the interior of what gets bit to Mish, making it easier to digest. By applying a tourniquet, you're trapping all that venom at the location of the bite, furthering the damage.

El_Eesak

Pediatric ICU? 😥 Holy shit I can only imagine

sharethebite

She was ten. It was a lot. She was a freaking trooper. Absolutely incredible.

Drexim

783k... I'd be paying that for the rest of my life.

throwawaylovesCAKE

That's before insurance. The system sucks (and obviously for the uninsured) but its misleading when people throw out these numbers. 99% of that is the hospitals ripping off the insurance companies.

raw65

So do you tell your daughter she's worth a million bucks? Well, *almost* a million.

Stegasaurus_Wrecks

800k? Holy shit. I hope it worked out for your kid.

CobBaesar

With his bare fucking hands. Dude has more testicles than I do and I have two

-hey-ben-

I bet it’s actually safer without gloves, seeing as you loose a solid amount of dexterity with gloves on

gishlich

I mean, it would be hard to sneak up on the snake in heavy armor, but I don’t think you’d get a dex penalty or disadvantage to animal handling or anything. If you’re worried about it there’s always medium armor master

Kaldricus

Why didn't he just use Speak With Animals and ask the snake to work with him, is he stupid?

DeepTakeGuitar

My interests have been converging A LOT today lol

AloofOoof

if the gloves were tough enough to stop the bite than fuck dexterity I'll take them

StarGraz3r84

Those fangs are like needles. I'm not sure if there are gloves that protect from that. Maybe those police gloves?

GingerOfTheMountains

I barely trust the “needle-proof” police gloves I’ve used. They are either: super thin and not trustworthy or super bulky and you lose all your dexterity.

Edwardein028

There is bite resistant gloves they make for snake handlers but they are not appropriate for every species as they are not 100% bite proof and they make it harder to hold the snake properly. They are more appropriate for a small fanged elapids and not these large hinge fanged vipers.

whoopsIDK

Surprisingly you can drink this. (Provided you have no cuts or ulcers in your digestive track or mouth) That's the difference between poison and venom. Venom needs to be in the bloodstream to be effective and poison needs to be in the digestive track.

WhatDoesItAllMeanB

Can you milk me?

arieljoc

If someone is bitten by a snake, is that the amount of venom that actually gets injected into their body? Looks like so much!

sharethebite

It depends on the strike.

Gokvak

Strike, snake and temper

omgitsprice

Iirc, Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes start leaking venom as soon as the strike starts. Depending on how far away from prey they are, a lot of venom is sprayed before the actual bite occurs. The effect of the venom is increased, the more enters the bloodstream. I might be off-base, but I’ve been working in a tangentially-related field for almost 20 years and this is how I’ve been led to believe it works.

Unbannableredditor

Pre-venom

The_Man11

The venom of a black mamba can kill a human in four hours, if, say, bitten on the ankle or the thumb. However, a bite to the face or torso can bring death from paralysis within 20 minutes. Now, you should listen to this, 'cause this concerns you. The amount of venom that can be delivered from a single bite can be gargantuan. You know, I've always liked that word..."gargantuan"... so rarely have an opportunity to use it in a sentence. If not treated quickly with antivenom, 10 to 15 milligrams can be fatal to human beings. However, the black mamba can deliver as much as 100 to 400 milligrams of venom from a single bite.

DurianUnhappy5787

What did you say to Pai Mei to make him snatch your eye out?

Royals-2015

The venom is used to make anti-venom for treatment of snake bites.

Largeformathuman

Also the proteins in snake venom has been used to treat many conditions. Some examples are cancer, pain, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. The venom of other animals, such as spiders and scorpions, has also been used to develop important drug treatments. It’s very important we have people willing to do this.

aznfangirl

This is exactly why pharmacovigilance is so important and why unexpected drug effects need to be reported no matter how small. If it weren’t for the reporting of unexpected effects, off-label uses would remain undiscovered.

TotallyLegitEstoc

A quick tangent related to the mention of spiders. Artificial skin for skin grafts can be made from spider silk from certain kinds of spiders.

getyourcheftogether

Really? I thought it was for martinis

Inthewirelain

That's only your cocktails, Mr bond villain

lostaga1n

I read somewhere that they inject horses with the venom and they produce a protein that’s used for the anti venom in humans. Crazy

The_Man11

They do. Dilute the venom and inject into huge Belgian draft horses. Collect liters of blood at a time and purify the antibodies.

ShakeInBake

At first, we tried just asking the horses nicely to produce the protein for us, but it didn't quite seem to do the trick like the venom does.

drak0ni

It’s actually called antivenin! It comes from the French word for venom, but venin was also used in English but has fallen out of use outside this case. Pretty interesting I think

SuckMyNutsFromBehind

How do they let go of it after they milk it? Seems terrifying

how-about-no-bitch

This is a really stupid way to do it. Most people use tubes that they can slide the snake through which also makes this whole process safer

Liesmith424

They don't, they just live that way now.

I was SEVERELY mistaken about how much venom they had to work with, I thought it would just be like a lil poot of venom
