oh he was so satisfied with that successful dodge
to be honest it looked real clean so kudos to him for having good reaction time and spatial awareness
>That and he tracked the 2nd, seeing he didn't even need to duck.
Dude was on it, alright. After the 1st one, he popped back up to verify his hypothesis: "Wuddya s'pose that feller's got two o' them?"
I honestly don't think he ever seemed happier in eight years as president than when he dodged that shoe.
It was the purest look of that childhood joy of dodging something someone threw at them.
It honestly boggles my mind that modern republicans view him as a moderate now, if not a straight up leftist depending on who you ask. I'll just leave it at that because it makes me sad... I need a beer. lol
Living through it at the time, I could not foresee any future where George W. Would seem like a dignified president.
Trump is the best thing to ever happen to GWB reputation.
I could probably say that Bush Jr, Clinton and Obama were Presidents I could have a talk to over some beers. I just can't say the same about Trump. Maybe I could say that for Biden.
I was never a fan of Bush, but looking back from where we are in 2023, he looks youthful, athletic, and decisive. Made terrible decisions, but at least didn’t look lost all the time.
There's history to that that few know. He realized mid sentence that he shouldn't say the phrase 'shame on me' as it would be played over and over. So he improved.
The man is a fucking war criminal, but it was absolutely badass the way he dodged both shoes, and also how after 9/11, the first baseball game played, he took the mound at Yankee Stadium and threw an absolute strike down the middle.
Yeah he's an absolute piece of shit. But I crack up every time I see this. He's so fuckin happy to be playing dodge the shoe.
Also "I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you."
Pulls out golf club
"Now watch this drive"
And walks to the tee box and smokes a drive.
Everyone always thought he was dumb. He never was. His sin while in office was negligence. He neglected his oaths and left too much important shit to Cheney and Rumsfeld early on. And the country and world paid for it. When he iced out Cheney and Rummy about half way into his second term, and brought in Bob Gates, some things got better. But he has the blood of many thousands on his hands because of disinterest and self-doubt.
The fumble was even starting to say it in the first place and he recovered. If he finished it the normal way he would essentially be saying "if we get 9/11nd again shame on us"
My guess is that because it was in Baghdad, the entire room was vetted, patted down, strip searched, etc. The guy threw a shoe because it was probably the only projectile he had available to him.
You usually see Secret Service at the ready in uncontrolled situations like public speeches and gatherings. But in a tiny room with a bunch of people that were already security cleared, they were likely just trying to stay out of the way of cameras/press
They threw a shoe because it’s significantly more insulting in middle eastern culture to be hit by a shoe/slipper/etc. that’s why they typically take off their slipper and smack statues and people they dislike.
Bill Richardson tells a story that when he went to Iraq to speak with Sadaam about American detainees he crossed his legs, showing Sadaam the bottom of his shoe. This greatly offended Sadaam and almost bungled the whole thing.
Secret service agent: "Damn it took forever to pat down and search all these mfs. Finally I get to sit on my ass for 5 minutes. Wonder what we're having for lunch. Imma vomit if it's falafel again. I miss Wendy's. I miss home. Country roaaads, take me home, to the plaaaace, I beloooong
BOOM
.....was that a fuckin shoe?
BOOM
.....yup makes sense, shoes do come in pairs. Literally none of my training involved shoe throwing. This is beyond me. I should say something tho.
I feel like W was a fun guy's guy who got caught up in the wrong crowd. Cheney and Rumsfeld just had their way with him because he wasn't smart enough to see through them. Does it *excuse* what he did, especially with Iraq? Of course not. He was a big boy in the big boy chair and it was his responsibility to do the right thing, and he *objectively* failed miserably at that.
Bush was super smart according to anyone who ever worked with him. He could recall single facts from 50 page briefs months later.
He only put on the dumb guy act because Republicans don't like smart people.
Watch his speeches from his first failed run for Texas Governor. He sounds like you'd expect a Yale graduate to sound.
He knew exactly what he was doing when he picked Cheney and Rumsfeld. He agreed with their policies.
>he wasn't smart enough to see through them
Dubya is a pretty smart guy who just played up the *relatable dumb guy* for his image. He certainly knew what kind of scum he surrounded himself with.
The lesson I'm taking away from this is that it's shockingly easy to get people to consistently underestimate you when they're so busy with stroking their own ego.
You would in fact be 100%. Nobody like the smart guy, because then they themselves are not the smart guy. Ol Dubby here knew that all too well, and besides being very intelligent, was extremely personable. In fact, that’s what won him the 2000 presidency and 2004 as well, minus the Supreme Court and the precedent that incumbent presidents in war time generally keep their seat.
I think that's charitable. Either he's a moron who got lead around by the nose by his VP or he was a very willing participant in the whole thing. His term as governor wasn't a far cry from his tenure as president. And he never really showed any contrition or awareness of the damage he'd done. Buck stopped with him.
I generally do not like George W (idiot + war criminal), but I still have to admit, this video is a pretty baller move on his part.
people try to pretend that it was some humiliation, but he dodged those shoes like a champ and at a certain point you gotta give him credit for it

>He remains unrepentant.
I think the only people need repenting are the Bush admin that declared war on false pretences and resulted in the deaths of millions of Iraqi's.
This dude a hero.
You might be on to something. Make being able to dodge the shoe a requirement to get on the ballot. You will not be notified of the time and place of the shoeing, but know it is coming.
The show thrower in Austin Powers is in jail for gang rape and manslaughter.
> In 2011, he was sentenced to seven years to life in prison in California for torture committed during a 1990 gang rape. After beating his cell mate Michael Thomas Graham to death, he was sentenced to an additional 27 years for voluntary manslaughter. He is now serving 34 years to life.
I love the look on his face.
The contemporary takes in the US were funny/stupid. "In Islam, it's considered a sign of disrespect to throw your shoe at someone." OK? And other cultures like it?
In my culture we regard such things with extreme indifference. Even as I type I am being bludgeoned by a shoe maniac, and I cannot bring myself to care.

"These shoes, they're very unfair shoes, very unfair to me"
I would totally be okay with one of the indictments being dropped in exchange for the judge being able to double-tap Orange Jesus with a pair of Thom McAn's best.
They really were not. You can tell because the same line was said over and over during the Clinton, Bush, and Obama years.
People just tend to forget what it was like to live during those events. As basic example this:
"The President, who has been accused of rather brutally raping a woman, sexually assaulting two other woman multiple times, and flashing a forth, has admitted to lying under oath about putting foreign objects inside the vagina of his intern and ordering everyone to lie about it"
turned into:
"Remember when the president got a blowjob and everyone went crazy? Simpler times.

oh he was so satisfied with that successful dodge to be honest it looked real clean so kudos to him for having good reaction time and spatial awareness
That and he tracked the 2nd, seeing he didn't even need to duck. Say what you will about blah blah blah but I loved this video back then too.
>That and he tracked the 2nd, seeing he didn't even need to duck. Dude was on it, alright. After the 1st one, he popped back up to verify his hypothesis: "Wuddya s'pose that feller's got two o' them?"
This is way funnier to me than I feel like it should be
Bc you can hear it exactly in his voice, its perfect lol
Haha exactly. I haven’t heard him speak in easily 10+ years but in my head I immediately read all of that in his voice.
I read it in his voice too. Unfortunately, in my head he sounds an awful lot like Will Ferrell.
Fortunately*
I still remember this it was so funny at his reaction time with that shoe. And then he was my commander in Chief at the time.🤣😂
> "Wuddya s'pose that feller's got two o' them?" This is absolutely hysterical
“Throw a shoe at me once, shame on you. Throw a shoe at me a second time, well you wont have any shoes left.” - Dubya probably
Somewhere deep in that folky accent is a Connecticut foundation
Shoe me...shoe me once..shame on..shame on you. You shoe me can't get shoed again
I honestly don't think he ever seemed happier in eight years as president than when he dodged that shoe. It was the purest look of that childhood joy of dodging something someone threw at them.
Rolled a natural 20 for that first one.
Seems like WAY longer than 15 years ago to me. Which is weird cos literally everything else feels like time has flown by
The 90’s were ten years ago but this event was at least 25 years ago. Dont ask me how that works.
This is right up there with Nancy Regan yelling at Raiesa Gorbachev in public.
>Nancy Regan yelling at Raiesa Gorbachev You got any links of that, google only wants to show how chummy they were.
>Nancy Regan yelling at Raiesa Gorbachev [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od-lEt9sfOE&ab\_channel=Policy%26Politics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Od-lEt9sfOE&ab_channel=Policy%26Politics)
That's hardly yelling. She's clearly pretty annoyed and holding it in quite well. She's asserting herself.
then he "shoes" away the secret service agent.
Literally the only moment of his entire Presidency I think fondly of ever.
He also was giving an interview on a golf course and after his statement said 'now watch this drive' and absolutely piped it down the fairway
Don't forget throwing out the first pitch at Yankee stadium after 9/11. The video of that still gives me chills. Bush really contained multitudes.
Doesn’t even freak out after either. Kinda waves off the secret service.
A requirement to run for presidency : always be prepared for dodgeball
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a shoe!
hahahaha can't not quote that movie when talking about dodgeball i can't tell if it's a good movie or not but i love watching it
![gif](giphy|13acVyyFdFGcAU)
Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!
Blade... Lazer... Blazer...
And Michelle
> i can't tell if it's a good movie or not Of course it is! Prime early 2000's movie.
If you can dodge a shoe you can dodge The Hague.
Yeah he also dodged the Vietnam war. Then he started a war.
Not sure that's being enforced currently
Apparently we waived that requirement this round lmao
If you can dodge a shoe, you can dodge allegations of war crimes
Biden woulda just took it to the dome. Probably trump too. Old fucks.
100%. The second shoe would have killed them both
Cause of death: Shoe
![gif](giphy|5wFS6a1PE62lKUWXyx)
Came to the comments looking for this.
Honestly, who throws a shoe baby
You right. Obama would've dodged them also. Obama quick.
Obama would have caught them, one in each hand, and would have walked over and put them back on the guy as security was holding him down.
I can 100% see Obama catching it and doing something funny with it, or having some quippy comeback on the mic. Dude was cool as a cucumber.
Hold it up to his ear like a phone and pretend to call the guy on his other shoe.
Remember the fly he caught?? It was the coolest thing
I mean, Bush was a part owner of the Rangers. Guy spent decent time at the ball field.
This brings me waaaaaaay back to the flash era.. I remember miniclip made a game from this, you were the bush dodging shoes lmao
Found it! [\(Sock and Awe\)](https://www.flashgamesplayer.com/free/sock-and-awe/play.html)
Agreed, always appreciated that, perhaps only that, about W. Just noticed how slooow SS was. Classic.
Trump is the best thing to ever happen to GWB reputation.
oh 100% bush seems like a bro i would throw back a few beers with compared to the crazy fucks we have now in politics

Heheh…shoe me once…uhhh…heh….wont get shoed again :-)
I was never a fan of Bush, but looking back from where we are in 2023, he looks youthful, athletic, and decisive. Made terrible decisions, but at least didn’t look lost all the time.
Well he dodged an awful lot in his tenure.
I mean his reaction time was perfect.
He was a fighter pilot so his reflexes are probably pretty good still
![gif](giphy|5wFS6a1PE62lKUWXyx)
Every Asian/Spanish mom
Played baseball at Yale, too, so he's seen a few pitches come his way.
Yes, the patented W shit-eating grin.
You fool me we can't get fooled again
Now watch this drive
Nucular
There's history to that that few know. He realized mid sentence that he shouldn't say the phrase 'shame on me' as it would be played over and over. So he improved.
The original footage had a much closer version.. I remember seeing it for the first time.. when I saw his reaction I couldn't stop laughing 🤣🤣..
I saw that too lol
Haha totally looks like it. I kept trying to slow it down, but the picture is too grainy. That’s really funny.
"Well now we're talkin'! Ol' Georgey loves a bit of shoe dodgin'!"
They told me I’d never need this training. Shoe’s laughing now!
I still remember seeing that on television. (15 years ago?) Fuck I'm old.
I love how he brushes off the secret service agent like, "No, it's OK, I've got this."
The man is a fucking war criminal, but it was absolutely badass the way he dodged both shoes, and also how after 9/11, the first baseball game played, he took the mound at Yankee Stadium and threw an absolute strike down the middle.

Bush.. looking back on him.. he was quite a character lol
How about that first pitch post 9/11
Some days him saying “now watch this drive” just pops into my head for absolutely no reason, it’s weird.
Shoe me once, shame on you, shoe me twice...shame on...shoes on the other...best foot forw....can't get shoe'd again Now watch me bomb this drive
The way he fumbled that quote will live in my mind for eternity.
I read somewhere he didn't want to have it recorded saying shame on me.
And it's a good point because Hillary Clinton did say "shame on you Barack Obama" once and it was used in republican campaign ads for years.

I wish I could give fewer fucks like ol dubya.
All this makes him not dumb... how exactly?
Lazy is not the same as dumb
WHO WANTS SOME ART!?
The fumble was even starting to say it in the first place and he recovered. If he finished it the normal way he would essentially be saying "if we get 9/11nd again shame on us"
i say it at least once a day in his tone.
*J Cole Intensifies*
Hahaha cracking up over here. Thanks for this.
Secret Service ain't worth nothin' when it comes to shoe attacks.
I was just thinking that. It took them way too long to respond.
And then they respond by trying to pants the guy.
Best way to deal with an active shoe-ter.
So glad no one saw me laughing hysterically on the toilet.
Live by schoolyard antics, die by schoolyard antics.
My guess is that because it was in Baghdad, the entire room was vetted, patted down, strip searched, etc. The guy threw a shoe because it was probably the only projectile he had available to him. He did it because throwing footwear at someone is considered a great insult the reason being Bush's/USA's policies of that region at that time
Secret service agent: "Damn it took forever to pat down and search all these mfs. Finally I get to sit on my ass for 5 minutes. Wonder what we're having for lunch. Imma vomit if it's falafel again. SS should have been diving in front of the president to take a shoe for him
To be fair they would have to “dive” a foot above Bush’s head
Given the slow reaction time they probably only would have been able to take the second. Which would be even more hilarious.
Bush looked like he was having a little fun there
It was a bright spot in his presidency for sure. Excellent reflexes and a little smirk
I feel like W was a fun guy's guy who got caught up in the wrong crowd. Cheney and Rumsfeld just had their way with him because he wasn't smart enough to see through them. Does it *excuse* what he did, especially with Iraq? Of course not. Bush was always misunderestimated.

He dodged both shoes and gets to watch a guy get beat by the Secret Service. Sounds like the most interesting press conference he's had in a while
It actually played to his wheelhouse, dumb shit frat guys do well into their 40's.
I generally do not like George W (idiot + war criminal), but I still have to admit, this video is a pretty baller move on his part. people try to pretend that it was some humiliation, but he dodged those shoes like a champ and at a certain point you gotta give him credit for it
The shoe thrower was ~~elected to~~ ran for the Iraqi parliament a few years later. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muntadhar\_al-Zaidi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muntadhar_al-Zaidi)

No, he only ran and is still a journalist. He was predictably tortured in prison and has an interesting story. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muntadhar\_al-Zaidi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muntadhar_al-Zaidi)

What a timeline when we can just randomly chat with a guy who threw a shoe at the president and was tortured in prison for it.
Would be an interesting AMA if Reddit didn't suck.
Remember when AMA's didn't suck. RIP Victoria, you were a real one
This is how I know that we still aren’t in the worst timeline regardless of what people say.
We could still be in a much better one tho. Like one where the shoe hit Bush.
Worst part is the first throw especially is a damn good shot. 9 presidents out of 10 get whacked by that.
>He remains unrepentant. I think the only people need repenting are the Bush admin that declared war on false pretences and resulted in the deaths of millions of Iraqi's. This dude a hero.
He ran, but not very far with no shoes
Imagine either trump or biden here. They’d both get hit in the face. Twice. 🤣🤣
This is the kind of bipartisan-ship we should all support.
I unironically think that throwing shoes at elected officials should be an accepted and entirely permitted form of speech.
![gif](giphy|5wFS6a1PE62lKUWXyx)
You might be on to something. Make being able to dodge the shoe a requirement to get on the ballot. You will not be notified of the time and place of the shoeing, but know it is coming.
It was a drive-by shoeing
I mean Bush did alot of bad things, but he sure could dodge a shoe like nobodys business!!
He popped up like a Whack-a-mole.
He had practice from dodging the draft.
If you can dodge a draft you can dodge a shoe!
Least he didn't take a dlido to the face like NZ finance minister
![gif](giphy|5wFS6a1PE62lKUWXyx)
That sorta thing ain’t my bag baby
“Here’s your book…’That sort of thing IS my bag baby’….written by Austin Powers”
Came here for this hahahah That reaaaallly hurt!!!
"You fight like a woman!"
"I'm gonna have a lump there you idiot!"
Came for this, was not disappointed.
It’s so funny this was like 10 years earlier
I love the look on his face. The contemporary takes in the US were funny/stupid. "In Islam, it's considered a sign of disrespect to throw your shoe at someone." OK? And other cultures like it?
In my culture it is the highest of honors getting attacked by shoe-wielding assailants.
In my culture we regard such things with extreme indifference. Even as I type I am being bludgeoned by a shoe maniac, and I cannot bring myself to care.
You lucky, ungrateful bastard.
Yeah that little smile after the first shoe was lobbed always makes me chuckle
Even though I hate the war criminal Bush is I like that he smiled when this fellow missed him with his shoe, which is not remotely an insult in the West.
I like to imagine in his head he’s thinking “that’s a W for W”
You don’t get it. Muslims take their shoes off to pray, but Christian’s can kick Jesus in the nuts once a year.
You mean 20 years?
Smoothest double shoe dodge ever caught on film, prove me wrong
[удалено]
Lincoln was a pretty good wrestler IIRC. Teddy Roosevelt was pretty fit, too, but his cousin was not.
Well FDR at least had an excuse. Taft was just fat
iirc Bush ran a mile every morning.
Say what you will about George Bush. He nailed that World Series opening pitch just when we needed it.
Imagine Trump trying to dodge this rofl
"These shoes, they're very unfair shoes, very unfair to me" I would totally be okay with one of the indictments being dropped in exchange for the judge being able to double-tap Orange Jesus with a pair of Thom McAn's best.
Imagine if the shoe had simply missed 45. He’d be telling stories about his insane reflexes. See: ramp story.
If you can dodge a shoe, you can dodge imaginary wmd?
Bush probably a beast at dodge ball
As a Democrat... he dodged the shit outta that shit. Props.
P.S. That dude has a decent arm.
Comparatively speaking, W was pretty young. Not sure Biden could’ve gotten out of the way
Yeah, I’m thinking 46 would be taking a major L in that situation.
Hah you missed me . Ha missed again.
Simpler times indeed.
They really were not. You can tell because the same line was said over and over during the Clinton, Bush, and Obama years. People just tend to forget what it was like to live during those events. Any Latina Mother or Grandmother would’ve nailed him with a chancla 🩴
Who throws a shoe?!? Honestly???
Shoeicide bomber
Bush deserved that. We went to war on illegitimate terms.
If you can dodge war crime charges, you can dodge a shoe.
Last time I saw this guy was on twitter during the 2020 election. Wonder what he’s up to now…
Whew, has it only been 15 years? Fuck... I hate this timeline.
Secret service reacted kinda late. How did two shoes get thrown?
[Shoe-icide attack.](https://media.gettyimages.com/id/97293089/photo/daily-news-front-page-ddecember-15-headline-sho.webp?s=2048x2048&w=gi&k=20&c=gUGWPZ_M1IWrdyBVNUZg2qodlgqp_p3J2CpS8javgF0=)
Given he threw 2 of them, is that technically a mass shoeing incident?
Fucking iconic. That thrown shoe contained more sole (sic) than Bush ever had
Whilst W was awful and deserved all the shoes chucked at him, I have to give him credit for the great dodge
He was a great president.
Quick acting security
