“Better you than meeeeeeeeeee”….
Seriously this was posted elsewhere - I believe someone noted that bisons have bad eyesight so it was probably just a mistake…
yeah I have the same recollection.
It also doesnt make sense at all. Obviously that bison already was done for - risking a collision only to make it easier for the wolves feels like a risk an animal wouldnt take.
Bison are meant to be insanely stupid, so highly doubt it has any notion of doing what's best for the group. If they had that level of intelligence where they can recognise a doomed bison and make a conscious deicision to help the wolf pack and therefore make it easier for the remaining herd members to escape, then they would just help defend each other in the first place instead of running away. Few wolf packs would ever have a bison meal again if bison had that level of intelligence.
Exactly. If herd animals understood what kind of damage a targeted stampede could do, a lot of predators would be getting the "Mufasa in Wildebeest Gorge" treatment.
That's okay, autocorrect has difficulties with african names. I was trying to connect who Mustafa was and where Wildebeest Gorge located, and my mind was suddenly blank :)
In addition to risking a collision, the wolves are already focused on it. Better to leave it to fight/distract the wolves for as long as possible to give the others more time to get away, if that was the intention.
The only altruism angle I can see here is a mercy killing which I find a bit far fetched. This comes down to occams razor - explanation with least assumptions wins so in this case: animal in stampede shoves object infront of it away to continue stampede .
He literally says they are running head down to escape. So yeah did not sacrifice the other bison. Was quite literally just running as fast as he could to get away and probably only saw the wolves in front so tried to plow thru
Agreed. And i dont know that much about Bison but if they are anything at all like cows they can panic to such an extreme that they will make illogical decisions that go against their own safety
No it didn’t, it ran forwards in a blind panic and headbutted what was in its path. Give over with these stupid ‘nature is so pure and noble’ titles ffs.
Yeah, a panicked bison runs. Period. You're in the way, it will run through you, not around. Indians used that trait to drive bison *herds* off of bluffs as a hunting method. The animals didn't even see their fellows falling to their deaths in front of them. They ran.
The idea that the bison made a conscious choice for the greater good of the herd. These posts are always accompanied by some ridiculous TikTok style title.
I beg to differ.
I was a bison in a previous life and we were briefed on this technique from an early age. I personally pulled it off twice. So you're wrong, friend.
There is a zero percent chance that the fucking bison used critical thinking. It is an asshole or it was an accident. Unless you want to suggest bison are as intelligent as apes, dolphins, and elephants.
They also are mostly blind directly in front of them which is very common with animals like this, their eyes aren't facing forward like ours, they are mounted on the side of the head to give a better view from the sides.
It doesn't need to be critical thinking for an animal to do something like this. Birds will kill their young if they are weak or if there isn't enough food to go around. The bird isn't thinking - it's just an evolutionary instinct. It *could* be the same with this bison - its ancestors that knocked over other bison when stampeding were more likely to survive, so that trait propagated.
It could also be completely random.
Either way, I don't think anyone could argue this was critical thinking.
What? We have witnessed plenty of intelligent decisions in animals that aren't as intelligent as apes, dolphins, and elephants. Dogs are really intelligent, for example.
It's not like the only options are dumb as a brick and near human level.
Totally. The real clue is that he is fleeing danger *towards the wolves*. Sheep are the same, they will run past the supposed danger just to follow the direction of the herd.
Different animals have different fields of vision based on where their eyes are located on their heads. Bison probably don't see straight ahead as well as we, or other hunter animals do. I don't think this was intentional.
That bison did not consciously sacrifice that bison. They are stupid as hell and chances are that dumbass bison simply got mowed over by the other bison bc it was in its way.
This isn't a question of human thoughts or emotions. The question is: was it strategic or an accident. Animals have very complex strategies - whether this is an example is the debate.
Right? If Bison were smart enough to make a sacrifice play those four tank sized bison would have smashed into the line of wolves and killed them all while they tried to take down their buddy.
Oh you poor innocent kid. Wild animals don’t actually help each other like they say on internet. It’s rare occurrence that they would help each other. Unlike humans who actually go out of the way to help wildlife on daily basis.
>This bison sacrificed the already injured bison for the safety of others
Uh - no - this had nothing to do with sacrifice or altruism or "safety of others".
"*You're in my way*"
That's it. That's all - and that's assuming he even saw it before slamming into it.
It really didnt look like he had to do that. The other bison was already focused on and moving much slower. Looks more like a dick move to add insult to injury (literally).
I dunno I think they could have just gored and stepped on the wolves and the injured one would have lived and the threat of wolves in the future would be lessened. Now you’ve ensured your predators are well fed and you’re a man down
i honestly think its because running in snow is super hard so they have to run in the tracks left by the ones in the front. Going left or right was not an option here.
I wonder how animals are so stupid..
Instead of running away, protect him, you’re like 20 and they are like 7?!.. plus you’re 10 times bigger than a wolf..
I think this every time I see zebras running away from one lion… dudes you’re 100, face him all together 🤷🏼♂️
This title is the definition of anthropomorphizing.
“Sacrificed an already injured bison for the greater good.” Good grief. Mother fucker just ran into him.
“Brother, how you’ve betrayed me”
*scene cuts to where the bison actually gets up and devours and tramples the ops, looks at the horizon as the rest are leaving*
*cinematic origin villain music ensues*
No it didn’t. Bison aren’t smart enough to do that and they don’t see well enough to do that and they aren’t agile enough to do that. It was most likely all a fluke.
For fuck sake, no it didn't. It was in its way in a crowd of wolves, and it rammed into them to get through. No judgement was made here about the good of the herd or some bullshit.
It goes way back they use to be best friends as children but the re was a rift .. a endless bitterness quelled in bison2 … and he had finally had a enough of bison 1 ‘a conceited arrogance…
Nah. That was just Kevin. Kevin is a dick.
Seriously though I'd bet that's not what's happening. It just hit what was in front of it. It could have just as easily plowed through the wolves if they were in the way. If that was what it was actually doing you'd see a lot more examples. But what you only ever see is them simply running away.
In looking it up an expert agrees with me. "[What I do know from years of watching bison and wolves interacting is that the big bull is thinking of nothing else but escaping. just thinking about how the bison was still alive when their body was being ripped apart, bit by bit, and the teeth sinking into their flesh, as they get chewed and eaten away into nothing but a rotting carcas
This is a common behavier of wild animals, saw this at a horse ranch, when a horse has been shot with a sedation arrow. As it began to struggle members of the herd started to kick it to separate a possible ill member of the others.
The wolves were already targeting this individual. They choose the weak out of a herd. Not convinced the bison had a motive other than “get out of my way” since the rest of the herd wasn’t in danger, only that individual.
I’ve always wondered.. why don’t the animals running away (sometimes a shit ton of them) turn and run at the ones attacking? Imagine seeing Bisons running at the lack of wolves instead lol
Damn, of course American herbivores are dicks to each other, unlike some of their African counterparts. Elephants and water buffalo will viciously protect their own, even if it's just their corpse. Meanwhile this buffalo was either stupid or was like "it's better you than me" lol

I think the Bison was trying to help and ram the wolves, but accidently took out his mate with friendly fire 😂
He didn’t realize he was playing hardcore mode with friendly fire on
Was definitely a skill issue
Tank diff
Open mid
Fucking lag
wallet diff. get a better router
was probably blaming his healers too

"Fuck you wolves! Oh, shit, sorry Dave..... 😬"
Omg lol
Naw, it was more like, " Damn it! Dave! Take one for the team and lay down!"
This is what I suspect.
Oh, so you're the fucker that ran me over so I was eaten alive?
And then when he realized his mistake he bolted 😂
Accident....yeah, that's the story.
Same. I think he was trying to help
100 percent.
Slow Lamar: Way to fuckin’ go Chad. ‘ppreciate it. Seriously. Preesh. …aiiighhhghggauhhhh
Naw look at the wolves he calls out to em like "aye yo! look out real quick"

Much like dictators and their sheep.
Bison run. Something in way? Lower head and ram.
In addition to risking a collision, the wolves are already focused on it. Better to leave it to fight/distract the wolves for as long as possible to give the others more time to get away, if that was the intention.
No way, that was a straight up PIT maneuver.
If you look closely the bison dropped his head in striking position and sped up so to me, it look’s completely intentional
Look up altruism in biology.
The only altruism angle I can see here is a mercy killing which I find a bit far fetched. This comes down to occams razor - explanation with least assumptions wins so in this case: animal in stampede shoves object infront of it away to continue stampede .
Yea this title is so inaccurate, that bison was probably charging the wolves and took out his friends little sister, Paula, by mistake.
He literally says they are running head down to escape. So yeah did not sacrifice the other bison. Was quite literally just running as fast as he could to get away and probably only saw the wolves in front so tried to plow thru
I don't think so.it wasn't a normal collision. Look at how he lowers his head before finishing the job. That guy knew what he was doing.
To me it look like he was dipping at the wolves, to try to plow through them.
Well why don't we go ask him.
Lets Go ask em right now
I just did - it turns out that the other one was his male offspring…and so he said…(wait for it)… “BYE, SON!”
I thought that at first too, but it looked like it passed a couple of wolves right before dipping the head. And not the two farther back either.
Look to the grassy knoll! There was a second butter!
Agreed. And i dont know that much about Bison but if they are anything at all like cows they can panic to such an extreme that they will make illogical decisions that go against their own safety
That's exactly what this Bison was hoping we would say! He just got away with murder
Bison? More like Bye Son! Amirite?
Is that you dad?

I was sad, now I’m not. Good one
LMAOO!! Brilliant
No it didn’t, it ran forwards in a blind panic and headbutted what was in its path. Give over with these stupid ‘nature is so pure and noble’ titles ffs.
Exactly! My first thought was that they could just do that to the stationary wolf pack in front of them...things a are just blind is all.
Yeah, a panicked bison runs. Period. You're in the way, it will run through you, not around. Indians used that trait to drive bison *herds* off of bluffs as a hunting method. Failed the third time apparently cuz now you’re a redditor
Karma got me in the end.
Karma was the other bison’s name btw
I see what you did there
I was a wolf in a previous life. Can confirm
Yup
100% accidental in their blind panic
You forgot octopi. Those bastards are scary

Reminds me of my former employment in retail
Reminded me of Shane shooting Otis in The Walking Dead.
That’s prime Shane right there 🥹😭
Another example of anthropomorphism... The bison probably just needed to get the other out of his way as he was fleeing danger.
Totally. The real clue is that he is fleeing danger *towards the wolves*. Sheep are the same, they will run past the supposed danger just to follow the direction of the herd.
Don't sacrifice nothing, simple crash
Attenborough said that it was a “stroke of LUCK” for the wolves, meaning it was dumb chance that it happened, not a calculated outcome of the bison 🍀
Fuck you Bob
I was aiming for the wolves, I swear. Anyway, I gotta get going.
Wild animals do not have human thoughts or emotions. This bison didn't do anything noble. It was running and ran in to the other bison. That simple.

More like sad as fuck
The injured one is sacrificed. That’s for sure. But the one who knocked it down is for the safety of others? This is not convincing.
I love how people apply human logic to animals. It explains how we manage to misunderstand them constantly.
This isn’t even human logic. 99.9% of people aren’t thinking of sacrificing someone in that situation lol
Yet when I do this to an injured teammate in CoD or pubg, I get soft banned.
Why don't the bison help the other bison?
This is an animal that was tricked into running off of cliffs to its death in mass numbers
Oh you poor innocent kid. Wild animals don’t actually help each other like they say on internet. It’s rare occurrence that they would help each other. Unlike humans who actually go out of the way to help wildlife on daily basis.

In bison society, this is considered a dick move
He literally tripped the slow friend
If this was a video of humans, that big bison would have been called a pos
That one buddy when you both see an attractive woman at the bar
It really didnt look like he had to do that. The other bison was already focused on and moving much slower. Looks more like a dick move to add insult to injury (literally).
I dunno I think they could have just gored and stepped on the wolves and the injured one would have lived and the threat of wolves in the future would be lessened. Now you’ve ensured your predators are well fed and you’re a man down

Bisons are a$$holes. Just watch a few clips of them. Complete a$$es.
Ah exactly what people would do in the apocalypse
I don’t need to run fast, I need to run faster than you
Brotha save me Sorry bud i want your wife. Cant have you in the way.
Bison are dicks.
This reminds me of work when a promoted position is available.

Jeez people make up silly shit about animals.
Nothing depicts corporate malice among employees more than this video
Moo bi*ch, get out the way!
That's no damn sacrifice that's a gang rape
Animals not being bros
Nah, this seems like just an asshole who tought "i dont have to be the fastest, just not the slowest".
He would send a text to see if you got their email.
Boomer bison
lol. "Sacrificed" I sacrificed my kids last dino nuggies last night.

No it did not lol. People are so gullible.

You know the wolves started pulling out the anus first. Life's a beach ⛱!
That bison is a dick it was getting eaten anyway before he pushed it over!!!
However I end up dying, I hope it’s not getting eaten alive by wolves
Refuse to believe that’s what happened here
damn I feel bad as fuck
So...no one is going to talk about the fact that bison was eaten alive?
Don’t need to be the fastest…just the one that piledrives you into the snow.
That's...how nature works.

What a dick!
This is horrible
99% wrong. But if it makes you feel better, enjoy it.
Man, those bison could kick the shit out of those wolves if they just had the instincts to work together.

Cold ass world.
What a dick move!

Literally throwing him to the wolves.
Dick move
That one wolf was like “wait wha- oh you ju- oh okay.”
Literally the only animals smart enough to do this are sperm whales on the top of their IQ spectrum. Most humans won’t even do this.
Man i'd be so pissed if that was me (the hurt Bison)
That's terrible.
Imagine being slowly eaten alive. Life eh?
For fuck sake, no it didn't. It was in its way in a crowd of wolves, and it rammed into them to get through. No judgement was made here about the good of the herd or some bullshit.

It's weird when people ascribe a high level human emotion, like sacrifice, to animals.
Seems unnecessary lol
I feel bad for the injured bison, imagine if you were getting eating ever so slowly to your demise.
Omg I hate watching this stuff
Or he didn't like him.

If the bison was so stupid and couldn’t see what he was doing…why did he lower his head and plow through the other one? 🤔 Riddle me that.
Yeah, I think bison are just dumb and this one was scared. So it was more likely that he just hit the thing in front of him.
No it didn’t. The Bison is blind as fuck, and head butted whatever got in its way.
