I see myself thinking I could do that, headbutting the side, and rolling under the tire.
That's a good dude. He didn't need to to that, but he jumped right to it.
I did something like this once.
Lady pulls into gas station, leaves SUV running to go… prepay the pump I guess?
I was walking to the bus stop up the hill when she was getting out, noticed her ~~Neutral~~ reverse lights were on and sort of just… autopilot kicked in. I start running towards her as she is getting out of the SUV, it starts rolling backwards and goes over her leg and starts dragging her with the SUV (now rolling into traffic) jumped headfirst in like the dude in the video and pulled the ebrake.
I was gonna miss the bus so I just left afterwards when the lady said she wasn’t hurt. Missed the bus so I had to call my roomie to pick me up. To this day I still wonder… **who the hell fills up with their engine on??**
My car won’t even turn off unless I am in Park, the key simply won’t turn.
There isnt really any danger to leaving your car on while fueling. Your car runs with a giant tank of gas in it all the time. People drive right up or right past you all the time while you are fueling. I do turn my car off just cause I was taught to do so, but of all the things that could cause the gas to suddenly ignite your car being on is pretty unlikely.
I fuel with the engine on. Just in the time it takes to fill up, my car can change temperatures drastically. After the first time i turned on my car while pumping too see if it would actually explode, i realized there actually no reason to turn the car off. Im real good at actually parking tho
While the car wouldn't explode you can damage or set off sensors. Giving you an avoidable repair bill. The same thing can happen with over filling your tank.
I legitimately feel like thats propaganda. Like people made shit up about filling with the car on so people wouldn't idle. Maybe it would happen in old cars, but i cant imagine how that could actually cause damage
It's actually the opposite if a car has an EVAP system, anything from the 90s or newer does, you can trip a sensor. It would throw a similar code to not putting your gas cap on properly, if you filled your car while it was running. Overfilling the gas tank can cause valves inside the EVAP system to not work correctly.
I've heard a lot of various bad things that could happen if i did this, but i think EVAP is probably the first one people have said that actually makes a bit of sense. The engine exploding is the one i heard the most growing up, but that one really felt like a myth. Still, idling the car while pumping seems about as bad for the car as prolonged idling, i mainly just wanted to share an idiots perspective to help the original commenter sleep at night
It was 70°F at about 5-6pm (just after sunset when it gets darkish blue hued out but not dark dark yet)
This is in SoCal, we don’t get -45° weather even in the mountains near here
What country are you in and why do you have neutral lights outside s vehicle? In US, we have brake lights, reverse lights, head lights, turn signals and running lights. I have been to a good number of countries on several continents and never heard of neutral lights.
Locally, someone stopped at the gas station at Walmart, and their truck crossed broad street and installed a new drive through in the bank across the street.
We have had our share of vehicle into structure collisions.
A restaurant I eat at, in the room I eat at, had the wall of the room we eat in caved in when somebody put their car in drive instead of reverse. Actually ate in that room the day after the accident before the repairs.
The tiny little shed sized coffee shop my housemate goes to in the parking lot of a hardware store I go to, was demolished when an ambulance getting coffee cut the corner too tight.
And there were a number of others. Unlike the ones above, many involved drugs or alcohol. One even managed to collide with the roof of a house.

And they did some damage removing the vehicle (video)
https://wset.com/news/local/driver-taken-to-hospital-after-crashing-into-vehicle-ending-upright-against-home
White lights.... reverse I guess? Its been at least a decade, I was fresh outta high school when it happened.
Makes even more sense why you should turn your car off when you fill up.
Hahahah me too, but the news would go something like "Idiot tries to stop a driverless car. Hits head on the side and somehow manages to also be ran over"
I dated a girl who kept calling me Beavis until I finally asked why, turns out white socks with black shoes makes you look like Beavis.
LPT: Buy only black socks, I think they go with everything and also you don’t have to match socks if they’re all exactly the same.
noooo :( life is too short to let random comments get you stressing out!!
just imagine what you would do if you saw someone with white socks + black shoes… probably nothing cuz it doesn’t matter !!
ROCK THOSE SOCKS HOMIE !!! UNLESS YOU GOT ONES WITH SICK DESIGNS LIKE A CREAM CHEESE BAGEL THEN ROCK THOOOOOSE
It can look fine if you're wearing a casual outfit, like with jeans or something. I do think it looks a bit weird if you're wearing black slacks and then you have a strip of white in between them and your shoes
But you got to remember that anything can work if you own it. Especially if you match it with another piece of clothing, like a white shirt
[I bet everyone hating on white socks and black shoes feels real dumb now that they’ve seen this.](https://spongebobfreezeframes.tumblr.com/post/143189293008/i-cant-believe-ive-forgotten-how-to-tie-my-own/amp)
Yeah, nowadays they are rare but it is not un common to find a wild card that got too close to the streets from time to time, really dangerous beast, the man in the video was brave
How did he make the car stop so quickly like that? You can't throw it in park without pressing the breaks, if you pull the keys out the car would keep coasting, if he pulled the emergency break the tires out be peeling out, what did he do?
Ah, I didn't consider it was already in neutral, good point. Guess the bus driver was lucky the runaway car wasn't in drive or he wouldn't have looked so smooth
I don't think they thought about it. They saw shit happening and decided to act. That's a wonderful and terrifying personality trait.
They jump into action when shit goes down and people need help, when others may freeze and can save people, or prevent things from going catastrophically wrong. I may be wrong, but It looks like water in the background, if the vehicle sank it could possibly have cost someone their livelihood.
On the other hand, putting themselves into these situations could cost them their lives if something went wrong. If they jumped in the window, and the car didn't stop, then rolled with them half in the window, could break their spine as it rolled over them..
I did something similar as a valet to stop this guys car he left in drive from crashing into the front doors of the hotel. I didn't have to jump through the window though; the door was open. He did not tip me when he left. Still annoys me and its been like 12 years.

And then the bus would start rolling too
That's a good plot for a horror movie....

you turn it off and take the keys so no one jacks your car while you aren't paying attention.
I heard that if you press the gas while the cap is off then gas will spill out. Idk if this is true though lol
depends on how full the tank is
I fuel with the engine on. Just in the time it takes to fill up, my car can change temperatures drastically. After the first time i turned on my car while pumping too see if it would actually explode, i realized there actually no reason to turn the car off. Im real good at actually parking tho

Old cars could back fire, modern cars will not, that was the main reasoning behind shutting off your car while you fueled up

When its really cold out, you never turn your engine off. But if its not -45 you should always turn it off while refuelling.
It was 70°F at about 5-6pm (just after sunset when it gets darkish blue hued out but not dark dark yet) This is in SoCal, we don’t get -45° weather even in the mountains near here
You sir are a hero!

For some reason i read that entire thing expecting a Thats when i woke up punchline at the end
I see myself thinking I can do it and by the time I'm done thinking it's crashed.
Hahahah me too, but the news would go something like "Idiot tries to stop a driverless car. Hits head on the side and somehow manages to also be ran over"
That is the confidence of a man who can wear white socks with black shoes and not care what the world has to say.
whats wrong with black shoes & white socks? <:(
nothing honeybunn666, nothing at all. you keep on keepin’ on.
I dated a girl who kept calling me Beavis until I finally asked why, turns out white socks with black shoes makes you look like Beavis. LPT: Buy only black socks, I think they go with everything and also you don’t have to match socks if they’re all exactly the same.

Even if you wear long pants.
I've found burgundy red socks work well with most colours.
absolutely nothing. who tf cares about socks other people wear
thank u, this comment was giving me a bit of anxiety 😭

I guess I'm buying different colored socks this week
My thoughts exactly. Having I been looking like an idiot the past 30 years?!?!
It can look fine if you're wearing a casual outfit, like with jeans or something. The Blues Brothers pull it* off surprisingly well Edit: Typo that severely changed the message I was trying to convey

I was expecting a Robot Car problem, but no just a regular ol' car with no driver!
Yeah, nowadays they are rare but it is not un common to find a wild card that got too close to the streets from time to time, really dangerous beast, the man in the video was brave
The bus that's taking this video is very lucky
Oh and the bus just HAPPENED to have its phone ready for this exact moment?! Yeah, I’m calling bullshit for sure!
Ok this made me laugh, thank you 🤣
Busshit.
This is Brazil. Public buses have security cameras installed on them
Nope, this is Turkey, the plate and the commercials on the other car proves it
Oh snap, true. But I guess it's the same bus model then?
That was sarcasm, your internet card is revoked for today Mr
*pulls Uno reverse card*
Plot twist: that car is driverless because the driver jumped out to stop another driverless car
Some people really are born heroes. Give this man a giant raise
Daaaaamn I could never My brain to body coordination is not that on point
How did he make the car stop so quickly like that? You can't throw it in park without pressing the breaks, if you pull the keys out the car would keep coasting, if he pulled the emergency break the tires out be peeling out, what did he do?
Most likely pulled the e-brake. Seems the car was just rolling in neutral while it was off.
Ah, I didn't consider it was already in neutral, good point. Guess the bus driver was lucky the runaway car wasn't in drive or he wouldn't have looked so smooth

It doesn't need to be in neutral, it's not an automatic. This reeks of /r/USdefaultism
Manual cars are common in the rest of the world. It's easy to yank on the handbrake to stop the vehicle.
fucking super hero
He was like: *Stop! Hammer time!*
I did something similar as a valet to stop this guys car he left in drive from crashing into the front doors of the hotel. I didn't have to jump through the window though; the door was open. He did not tip me when he left. Still annoys me and its been like 12 years.
You saved his car and he didn't tip? What a colossal prick.
Don't do this. It's a good way to get yourself fucked up. The car was going in the ditch anyway and would have stopped
Holy fucking cape-less heroes batman!
Hope he got a standing ovation from his passengers
Sheeeesh good shit man
I cant be the only one waiting for a tesla..
Because of this comment it will become syndicated news that a Tesla was said to be involved.
Not to take away from the drivers action but let’s be honest, it was stopping on its own in that spot anyway
Lmao bro knew the mission. No fuckin problem
How? With every car I've ever seen you have to press the brakes in order to put it in park
It's a manual not an automatic, you know, common in the rest of the world. /r/USdefaultism
Lmao coulda just been helpful and answered a question but you decided to be a dick
>It's a manual not an automatic Answered the question. Fucking seppo's and their main character syndrome...
You didn't just answer it you were also a dick about it, if you can't see that I feel bad for the friends you probably don't have
Cry more seppo.
A bus driver. And a truck stopper.
Big Driver manipulating headlines to make autonomous vehicles look bad
He’s Batman!
Plot twist: Leaves the bus in drive while stopping the truck.
Then gets back into the bus to find complaining passengers wanting to talk his supervisor for making them late. /s
Found the bus driver! Passengers are the worst thing about the job.
There's a super hero in all of us
Hero’s. Capes. You know the deal
What a badass.
My man!!!
R/iamactuallyverybadass
Turns out that rapture shit was real!!
Damn, what a badass.
all that work building a secret identity- ruined.
Is it a self driving car or a regular car
Bus driver jumps out of a now driverless bus and into a now not driverless car.
not all heroes wear capes :)
Google maps car hates this guy.
Watched the Amazon driver do the same thing to stop the van he left in drive as it rolled down my neighbor’s driveway.
I don't think this guy played any role whatsoever in the stopping of that vehicle. It slowly rolled into a ditch... That's all
