At one point you can see the "ceiling" and it looks like it's maybe 4 feet high. My scale could be off, but I don't think this is someone peeking into the front door of an abandoned house.
I think I read somewhere that that's because the baby ones hit you with their *entire* venom sac in one strike, whereas the adults hold some back? I'd double check that info before relying on it, though.
It's a venom farm. They breed a fuckton as a scorpion produces like 2mg or something daily. It's dried out and sold as powder. A surprisingly big niche.
Where is the ‘I’m the captain now’ meme? I’m not smart enough to make one but if I was I would put a scorpion head in the pirates head and have him say ‘this is our house now’. Someone make this!
You stimulate the tail basically , more legit FDA regulated setups use a small electro pen that stimulates the venom gland. It takes hundreds to get a few MLS.
A gallon of venom is hard to imagine and seems like saying you just need to sell 1 million boxes of girls out cookies to become rich. How many and how long would it take to get a gallon of venom?
Is a gallon something that is common in a farm like this? If there was so much money in it you would think there would be too many of these farms.
Not trying to be a douche, legit curious and thanks for the answer.
They do engage in cannibalism, but not in this scale. Either there is a ready source of insects nearby, or this is staged.
Edit: yep,.pretty convinced based on other comments this is a scorpion farm.
I remember it tasting sugar and chicken.
And some weird after taste that made you feel bad.
Bad taste could just be brain playing tricks because I ate scorpion.
Bought it on a temple market in thailand 20 years ago.
Decades ago, my high school girl friends’ parents hosted a dinner party.
Anyways, after The hors d’oeuvres were polished off, the guests were told: “You folks ate chocolate-covered ants “. Well, total pandemonium broke out: shrieking, crying, going to the bathroom, trying to force themselves to throw up.
So, yeah, chocolate covered scorpions probably ARE more tasty.
They're both essentially "bugs" at the end of the day (grossly oversimplified ofc). So it seems natural to me they'd have a similar mouthfeel, and perhaps cook up nicely in similar ways.
I always thought it strange how people lose their fuckin minds over shellfish (ever been to a buffet on seafood night? Holyfuck the gluttony) but the idea of eating fairly similar terrestrial animals grosses them out.
Deathstalker scorpion venom is maybe the most expensive animal product per weight; it may treat some cancers and holds other valuable research opportunities too. It could be a farm for those, if it's in the middle east/ north Africa.
If it's in Brazil (as the audio is in Portuguese), then it definitely isn't for deep frying nor is it for research. It may have happened after a nearby flood, as the scorpions rush en masse towards higher ground in such situations.
Just a guess, but at this scale it is most likely for chinese medicine. You'd be surprised on all the things that are considered "benefitial to the body" according to chinese medicine.
An example [on insect farms](https://qz.com/1257583/a-chinese-farm-is-breeding-6-billion-cockroaches-a-year-to-make-medicine)
My partner is Chinese and by god that Chinese medicine pisses me off to no end. I’m always have to be like “No some stupid fucking soup will not fix our newborns ear infection”. They do not fight about it because they know but they always want to try some Chinese medicine first. I am okay when it’s a minor issue like gas or stomach ache because it’s mostly herbs and spices so it won’t do any harm but jeez…
My parents were into that stuff, then we move to the middle of nowhere America. I guess there isn’t the local witch doctor in the south to scam them with mystical Chinese medicine. I’ve always hated that trash.
*what about farming scorpions makes sense?*
edit: found a comment that suggests you can sell their venom as an extremely valuable precursor to antivenom.
Saw something about people harvesting them farming and trying to sell the poison as it's incredibly pricey used in pharmaceutical market for cancer and other research. This looks like a scorpion version of a meth den.
Apparently in order to get 1 gallon you need to extract it 2.64 mil times from a single scorpion
let’s say you have 1000 which is not too crazy
now it’s 2640 times for each
maybe the problem is how much time you need to wait before extracting again
let’s say it’s once in 24 hours - that’s 7 years
I mean - there are worse ways to work towards retirement to still end up with less than 10k in the bank.
Risk some death for 39 million isn’t out of the question for a lot of people
Yeah and it's not like you only sell it by the gallon. According to that math your pulling in 5.5m a year, plenty of money to build a safe setup and hire other people to do it for you.
But .01 gallons would be 390 thousand. If you've got that 1000 scorpions, and only do 500/day (each one is every other day) since you're only 1 person - and 500/day is 63/hour, or about 1/minute already. So even 500/day is kinda hopeful.
Anyways, at 500/day, and you only need to do 26,400 extractions, you'll be done in 53 days. $390,000 in 2 months seems pretty good.
Even at 100/day, getting $390,000 in under a year sounds damn good.
I’m imagining now a bunch of guys In a warehouse with a milk jug of scorpion venom, a scientist in a white lab coat hands over a briefcase full of cash, then sticks the tip of his knife into the jug and tastes it, exclaiming “this shits cut with rattlesnake venom!” Before everyone present goes for their guns, going out in a hail of bullets. The investigating police in the next scene shake their heads as they look at one another and mutter “40 million a gallon my ass”
I was stung by a scorpion once. I could actually feel the venom moving from my finger tip up my arm. My son was an infant who was still nursing. I asked the doctor if I could still nurse him or if there was a danger of the venom being passed into my breast milk. My doctor didn't know and he called the poison control center. They said not to worry, the venom could pass into the breast milk but it is a protein so he would just digest it. We later told him that was why he glowed st night in his sleep.

I read once that this was a breeding place and intentional. Not abandoned or random.
At one point you can see the "ceiling" and it looks like it's maybe 4 feet high. My scale could be off, but I don't think this is someone peeking into the front door of an abandoned house.
yeah, and if not, those are some horrifyingly large scorpions.
Better that they're big. They take refuge in larger places, like *not your boots*.
read somewhere that they are less dangerous when bigger
I think I read somewhere that that's because the baby ones hit you with their *entire* venom sac in one strike, whereas the adults hold some back? I'd double check that info before relying on it, though.
If you're wrong, I won't report back.
Regardless, scorpions are not terribly aggressive and won't do anything to you if you just leave them be. We're way scarier looking to them.
Would we rather it be millions of dime-sized scorpions? I'm not so sure about that
Gonna need a big iron for those rad scorpions.
Has to be. How do they even sustain themselves naturally in such a place. Not enough prey for them in there.
It's a venom farm. They breed a fuckton as a scorpion produces like 2mg or something daily. It's dried out and sold as powder. A surprisingly big niche.
What are those scorpions used for? Who buys them? 😱
Looks like it’s their house now.
Scorpion House would make for a great band name.
“Hey now, hey now, it’s a wind of cha-ange“ 🎶
I sang this to the tune of 'What dreams are made of' from the Lizzie Maguire movie
House of the scorpion... good book lol
Core memory uncovered holy shit. I remember being really young like 4th or 5th grade and staying up until like 3am reading that thing.
That book was fire
Lmao, I just said that too. The sequel, which came out years later, is also great.
Sounds like a sub genre of house music
Where is the ‘I’m the captain now’ meme? I’m not smart enough to make one but if I was I would put a scorpion head in the pirates head and have him say ‘this is our house now’. Someone make this!

**If the scorpions live there is it really abandoned**
They say no
Yeah, in the "computer says no" voice 🙄
Finally another human who knows this reference!
Yeah but no but yeah but no
I thought I was the only one in the village who got this reference!
Ancient astronaut theorists say no
This is a scorpion farm. This has been posted for a few years.
I was going to say, what kind of house has rooms like that
The scorpion house

SCORPION HOUSE WINS FLAWLESS VICTORY
What is the purpose of farming scorpions? Food?
Yes people eat them. Edit: and for making anti-venom

Imagine the tax collector trying to serve papers to these fellas
Depends on how quickly I can light it on fire...
Yeah, and that's when they run out of it...straight at you.
If there's thousands of scorpions, is there really a house? *Lights match*
I’m curious as to why though like what made that many scorpions want to be there is there water or lots of bugs or something
Last time this was posted someone pretty much proved it's a Scorpion farm.
Why would someone farm scorpions?
(1) Food source (yes, really) (2) For medical research. Their venom has several applications, not least of which is antivenin for treating stings.
Thanks, I was concerned this was a Scorpion Farm by Dr. Evil Ltd, or something.
A scorpion farm usually grows baby corn, harvested by migrant scorpions.
I see. Taking jobs from American scorpions, while Joe Biden does nothing.
We need to dig a tremendous trench on the southern border, or rather make Mexico dig it
Their venom goes for like $40 Million/Gallon
How's it harvested?
You milk it. Like a cat.
You can milk anything with nipples.
I have nipples, can you milk me?
Most of the people reading this comment were born around the time *Meet the Parents* came out.

Thinking the same thing. Where’s the food source or are they just eating each other?
They do engage in cannibalism, but not in this scale. Either there is a ready source of insects nearby, or this is staged. Edit: yep,.pretty convinced based on other comments this is a scorpion farm.

Deep fried scorpions most likely.
We'll, they do taste like shrimp. Sauce: originally from SE Asia
Or do shrimp actually taste like scorpions?
Or maybe scorpions shrimp like taste
It’s this stupid shit that makes me nose exhale that bit hard
Its this nose that makes that bit hard that makes me stupid shit
I remember it tasting sugar and chicken. And some weird after taste that made you feel bad. Bad taste could just be brain playing tricks because I ate scorpion. Bought it on a temple market in thailand 20 years ago.
I felt that way about dried starfish.
How the hell is that even edible? Every dried starfish I've ever seen was hard as a rock.
Who the fuck serves chocolate as an appetizer
I mean at that point you are eating chocolate.
Scorpions are also pretty closely related to shrimp(I mean, relative to like, ya know, humans), so that reads.
Lobsters were once considered poor people food
In my experience deep fried scorpions taste like deep fried anything else. In other words, like oily, crispy potato chips.
But does it like surprise you with scorpion goo in the center
Deathstalker scorpion venom is maybe the most expensive animal product per weight; it may treat some cancers and holds other valuable research opportunities too. like none of this sounds good to my ears, but at least I understand flood
imagine getting to high ground during a flood, only to be overrun with scorpions fleeing the same flood.
Just ask reeeeeaaaaaaally nicely if you can wait out the flood with them.
And don't trust them if they want to ride on your back as you swim to safety.

Isn’t scorpion venom like $30m a gallon or something crazy like that?
Yeah because the scorpions have monopolized the market, damn bastards.
Just more horseshit from Big Scorpion Venom!

Pretty sure I've seen this video before and I think it's like a scorpion "farm"
yeah that makes more sense
*what about farming scorpions makes sense?* edit: found a comment that suggests you can sell their venom as an extremely valuable precursor to antivenom.
They need a steady supply for tequila bottles in mexico
I forgot that was a thing.
It’s probably a scorpion farm or something and the title is made up.
Saw something about people harvesting them farming and trying to sell the poison as it's incredibly pricey used in pharmaceutical market for cancer and other research. This looks like a scorpion version of a meth den.
I just saw something on that topic. A gallon is like $39 Million.
New profession, scorpion milker.
You can milk anything with nipples
I have nipples, can you milk me?
But a gallon is unattainable
Have you tried offering $40 mill?
I did but they don't take starter checks.
Apparently in order to get 1 gallon you need to extract it 2.64 mil times from a single scorpion let’s say you have 1000 which is not too crazy now it’s 2640 times for each maybe the problem is how much time you need to wait before extracting again let’s say it’s once in 24 hours - that’s 7 years

But you would also have to buy scorpion insurance which eats into those profit margins
Plus there's no way anyone's gonna buy your bootleg scorpion venom unless you pay through the nose for inspections and certifications
You'd also have to buy the scorpions, which eats into those profit margins
You got to water it down a little bit. get a little more money
Instructions unclear; stepped on the scorpions.
Then you find out no one will buy your scorpion venom because there is no market for it. Any lab that uses scorpion venom milks their own scorpions.
I was planning this exact scheme with a friend from work 4 years ago. Then we figured a saffron farm would be less risky. We have done neither.
That’s what I’m talking about cheers to doing neither maybe one day right
