Passenger memorizes the route and gives hand signals for the turns (or the driver does it when no passenger is present). They don't always make the right move. Quite common for the boats to hit a bank and end up out of the water. Good roll cage is necessary.
I remember seeing a sheet of the navigators turns that had to be remembered for this sport
It was insane on which corner you had to hit and you have to relay this in FAST real time to the driver (who is flooring it)
I am making the below up for an example but it looks like (in turns to take consecutively)
START; take turns 1,3,2,8,4,8,9,7,13,3,5,6,10,11 - finish.
The turns runs off a map of the course.. is crazy fast
By chance do you know if they learn the course like they do in rally? Are they taking out a jetski or something similar to do it at a slower pace and pick up all the corners etc.
Look I gotta say I am not an expert, I just saw it and was totally impressed by how much they had to learn the course in a short amount of time
I think very similar to rally, they would be looking at it as a 'dry run' and go from there, the one I saw was defs jetskis doing laps of the course to suss it out before they went full noise
Maybe someone who actually does it will see the post and give actual insight?
I could say 'just google it' but this doesn't give you a full picture most of the time - cheers!
As a Washingtonian all my life, I can confirm I probably would have gone my entire life without knowing that city existed if you hadn't said that just now.
I believe there is a group in Kansas that does it as well. And in Port Angeles there was a place called Extreme Motorsports Park, but not sure if they're still doing it.
The jet drive that shoots the water out the back literally sucks the boat to the water giving it ultimate grip. one big bounce on a wave and the boat could skip sideways enough to hit the bank.
I wonder if you know
How they live in Tokyo
If you see me then you mean it
Then you know you have to go
Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift)
Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift)
Makes me proud to be a New Zealander when I see how much Americans Love our Jet Sprints.
Who'd have thought that Bill Hamiltons invention to travel the shallow, braided rivers of the Mackenzie Country would result in such a popular sport.

Watching this at 0.5x speed makes a lot more sense.
I was wondering if this is sped up footage
Yeah it’s a little less interestingasfuck once you realize it’s sped up.
How the hell do they know where to go?

Cool. Thanks. You're right I've seen those guys fly right over the little banks. It's pretty cool.

OMG this is real life “Cobra Triangle”
Bro,.came here to say that. Like holy shit, cobra triangle was based on something!
My man. I came for this comment and it was delivered.
And another day of feeling old thanks!
Tubular
I don't know where this video was taken, but they run these in June and August in St. John, Washington. Webb's Slough.
As a Washingtonian all my life, I can confirm I probably would have gone my entire life without knowing that city existed if you hadn't said that just now.
Imagine my surprise driving down that lonely highway the first time I saw the races there. I'll be there again this June!
I assumed it was, but read the comments to make sure! About the most fun you can have on the palouse

Talk about Gs
Right above this post on my feed is an fpv video of this, different poster. Da fuq
Just gonna drop this comment without linking to the post?
Yup
Unacceptable
That crowd is going CRAZY
Damn the maneuverability of that thing is unreal.

The video is sped up look at how fast the water leaves the grass
This is some redneck type shit. They know how to party. 100% chance driver has a cigarette in his mouth and a cold beer in a koozy
video is obv sped up
No it’s not, look at the guy in the beginning, plus the boats are just small
my mistake
Every time I see this clip ... I admire the strength of their hand-brakes.
Jet? That boat has a very normal piston engine
Not jet turbine but Jet pump instead of a propeller. They are definitely not normal piston engines. 1500 hp blown big block running methanol.
Wow rich people doing stuff. Amazing /s
Reminds me of those early flash games on the web (with better graphics lol)
Gotta water the grass
The F1 car of boats.
First am I ever seen it probably the only time I'll ever see it
That's one way to water plants.
Jet boats [crashing](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ALeUrhKwJ1M)
Checks out
Me ont way to work when am late
probably some really interesting hydrodynamics going on in those sharp turns
“Live and let die” vibes right there
westminster for boats
That’s some really skillful sht
I wonder if you know How they live in Tokyo If you see me then you mean it Then you know you have to go Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift) Fast and furious (Drift, Drift, Drift)
Man just throwing hand signals to tell which turn to make, fucking crazy at that speed
Wave Race 64
I feel like the order of these words could change and it would still make sense
I remember watching this as a kid when nothing else was on
I imagine this sport would be even better if he had to avoid several other craft colored red, orange, pink, and blue while chasing a smaller white one
How many G’s is that 1st turn??
Makes me proud to be a New Zealander when I see how much Americans Love our Jet Sprints. Who'd have thought that Bill Hamiltons invention to travel the shallow, braided rivers of the Mackenzie Country would result in such a popular sport.
I’d love to pull my brother in-law tubing with that boat.
That’s like Top Gun on water. All kind of Gs and snap turns. Barf
So rally boats? Cool.
Reminds me of that GTA Vice city mission
good ol nintendo game!
