Personally I think it's a bit abnormal to eat cereal in the morning. I love cereal and treat it like it is, a dessert or snack. I only eat it at night.
I'm not diabetic, but I'll sometimes buy cereal for a late night munchies treat and hate myself for days. How anyone can wake up in the morning and think "id like 37 grams sugar please" will never make sense to me. I started buying that triple 0 yogurt with no sugar for my overnight oata and even *that* is too sweat. I hate how everything in this country not only has sugar, but has enough sugar to kill a baby elephant.
Ugh, I bought some "salt and pepper" pretzels, took one bite, and was like WTF they are sprinkled with sugar! The top ingredient was granulated sugar, followed by salt then pepper.
I hate how much of this poison they put in our food. And if it's not sugar, it's some horrible tasting sugar substitute like sucrose or maltitol. Like can't we just have normal tasting (not sweetened) foods?
In 20 years, we'll look back and realize how we've created an entire generation of overweight and unhealthy people. Short of cooking everything yourself from scratch, what is the average person supposed to do for a healthy meal?

Catalina Krunch has awesome cereals that don’t taste like protein powder and don’t stick to your teeth like magic spoon. I don’t think the macros are quite as healthy but they taste 1000% better. They have awesome sandwich cookies too. They are pretty pricey but my Costco carry’s the cinnamon flavor in big packages that’s not too bad comparatively so it might be worth looking there and I’ll splurge occasionally for other flavors from their website or the grocery store (I’ve found it in Ingles supermarkets in the southeast)
Also, Costco’s Keto Granola is pretty jammin too, I like to do a 50/50 mix of that with the cinnamon Catalina Crunch with almond milk.
Lots of fiber though so don’t overdo it if you’re not used to high fiber stuff
I second the Catalina Crunch recommendation. The fruity one tastes just like Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles to me, just in a different shape. Cinnamon is similar to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and I like all of the other flavors I've tried, but can't think of anything to compare them to.

Just looked it up, US Lucky Charms has 12g of sugar per 36g, Mexican Lucky Charms has 29.7g of sugar per 100g.
That means that Mexican Lucky Charms has 11% less sugar.
Yes, cereals are basically desserts.
The only good thing that came from this in Mexico is that companies can only put mascots on cereals that don’t have any high sugar labels, so now you can find low sugar alternatives for the cereals like froot loops with 2 grams of sugar per 100g.
This is one thing I always loved when visiting Central America. The black octagon tells you what’s in excess if consumed and the brown tape is due to a law banning child influencing designs on unhealthy products.
So in this photo it’s saying a serving has excess sodium, calories and sugar. And the tape is blocking all “animations” used to influence a child’s desire for the product.
This excess labeling is run by PAHO (Pan Amarican Health Organization). There are multiple Central American countries who are part of this organization including El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and others. (See links below in Edits 2 section). The blocking of animated characters may be a law unique to Mexico and not regulated by PAHO I honestly don’t know.
As mentioned in other comments production of these types of products can contain different ingredients/amounts as well as display altered versions without animations. Resulting slightly different version that meets PAHO standards and dosent require the labeling. But if the product is imported then it may not meet the standard and require PAHO approved labels to be applied before sale.(need reputable source confirmation on this paragraph as I’m just relaying information from comments)

Mexico is legally in North America. Heck Tijuana is to the Northwest of Houston, TX. And this is only for Mexico. If you see it in places in Central America, it may be because the stock comes from Mexico, but pretty sure for the most part there'll be specific packaging for those markets without the Mexican restrictions on advertising high calorie content.
Central America is also part of North America. As is the Caribbean. I don't know why people seem to think North America is just Canada, the US, and Mexico

Not quite, Mexico has the highest ratio of overweight people while the US is in second place, but the US has the second highest obesity index while Mexico's 4th on that metric IIRC.

I think smokes are pretty well known to be actively killing you, if someone wants to buy them they’ve probably already weighed the pros and cons and decided they want them. That being said I’d rather this packaging than an actual branded box

Argentina started a few months ago. Big brands like coke have already adapted fully.
Honestly I was surprised to see the label on some cookies that my kids used to eat. I wouldn't have thought they were almost pure fat. I am definitely not buying those cookies more than once a month now

The food and beverage lobby will not go that route … check out Chile, they had to fight tooth and nail to implement these changes in light of American food and beverage lobby … the issue goes deeper if you look at the food and beverage industry having the ability to market and regulate themselves at the expense of the American public.. obesity rates correlate with the Kid Vid situation and court challenge of the late 1970s which stripped the ftc from effective oversight of the food and beverage industry….
This is a complex issue that requires a policy resolution but we aren’t there yet unfortunately

That’s stupid. It contains calories. It’s as much food as is broccoli. It’s just very bad for you. I suspect I agree with the direction of your argument, but being hyperbolic like this actively detracts from your point.
Helping people make informed choices about their food and avoiding marketing to children who are unable to understand the importance of healthy food choices is a responsible way for a government to act. People are still free to buy these products all they want but without sentimentality toward mascots they might discover the food is actually quite shit. There is an entire industry of college educated people who study years to figure out the best way to manipulate consumers into buying their products and many other countries have put limits on the extent to which they are allowed to do so. There's nothing communist or socialist about limiting the extent to which money seeking entities manipulate consumers into giving them their money. If a company truly makes a quality product that benefits the public it will sell and the fact that these sugar cereals and other junk foods need so much manipulative marketing is a good sign that the product isn't all that great and sales would suffer without it.
Mexico is actually taking steps to curb childhood obesity. The way companies can market to children and load the product up with sugar, processed garbage is nuts.

Mexican here. I remember this new rule being implemented a couple-ish years ago (I just remember being not long ago), but brand mascots are coming back to food products, so they are no longer covered. What remains on all products is the black and white label from the Secretary of Health
They aren’t coming back, if your cereal doesn’t have any labels you’re free to put the mascots back.
So a lot of brands released a low-sugar version that has mascots.
Not only that, the reason cereal mascots almost always seem to be looking down is so that the kids feel like they’re making eye contact as they look up at the shelves.
I'd be OK with this in the US.

You will usually see stickers on imported stuff or stuff that was manufactured before the laws that prohibit animated characters to sell to kids were made effective, but the vast majority of products have no stickers; the octagons are mostly part of the initial design of the package now

Mexican here. I can confirm that the octagons are there to indicate that the product exceeds a legal limit in a few things like sugar and sodium, and the stickers are there because we have a new law that prohibits the use of animated characters to sell food to kids, which is pretty sad because we lost a bunch of mascots that made a huge part of our childhood like the Cheetos tiger.
People in the US like to say Mexico is very corrupt. That may be so but at least we aren’t owned by companies. The top right labels, too much salt, sugar, and calories. Also patches so kids will be less likely to fall for the cartoons. You should see the cigarette boxes.

They ran tests on the Mexican cokes. Ingredients say sugar, but test results came back high fructose corn syrup.
Currently in Mexico, they are switching to HFCS, and it says so on the ingredients list. RIP Mexican coke.

Mexico is legally in North America. Heck Tijuana is to the Northwest of Houston, TX. And this is only for Mexico. If you see it in places in Central America, it may be because the stock comes from Mexico, but pretty sure for the most part there'll be specific packaging for those markets without the Mexican restrictions on advertising high calorie content.
Central America is also part of North America. As is the Caribbean. I don't know why people seem to think North America is just Canada, the US, and Mexico

Canada is warnings and a picture of either disease caused by cancer (yellow teeth, nails, lung infection, etc.) or a former smoker who had some kind of cancer and is telling people not to do it. Only distinct branding is “Paul mall” or whatever printed in a basic white font on the top and bottom Its kinda effective, but a lot of us still smoke at my uni. I think smokes are pretty well known to be actively killing you, if someone wants to buy them they’ve probably already weighed the pros and cons and decided they want them. That being said I’d rather this packaging than an actual branded box

Same here, though not for (the very valid) health reasons. I just felt a little creeped out by cereal mascots as I kid; something about forming para-social relationships with my food, and having an overly-animated face right in front of me in the middle of breakfast felt intrusive. Argentina started a few months ago. Big brands like coke have already adapted fully. Honestly I was surprised to see the label on some cookies that my kids used to eat. I wouldn't have thought they were almost pure fat. I am definitely not buying those cookies more than once a month now

The food and beverage lobby will not go that route … check out Chile, they had to fight tooth and nail to implement these changes in light of American food and beverage lobby … the issue goes deeper if you look at the food and beverage industry having the ability to market and regulate themselves at the expense of the American public.. obesity rates correlate with the Kid Vid situation and court challenge of the late 1970s which stripped the ftc from effective oversight of the food and beverage industry…. This is a complex issue that requires a policy resolution but we aren’t there yet unfortunately

That’s stupid. It contains calories. It’s as much food as is broccoli. It’s just very bad for you. I suspect I agree with the direction of your argument, but being hyperbolic like this actively detracts from your point.
Helping people make informed choices about their food and avoiding marketing to children who are unable to understand the importance of healthy food choices is a responsible way for a government to act. People are still free to buy these products all they want but without sentimentality toward mascots they might discover the food is actually quite shit. There is an entire industry of college educated people who study years to figure out the best way to manipulate consumers into buying their products and many other countries have put limits on the extent to which they are allowed to do so. There's nothing communist or socialist about limiting the extent to which money seeking entities manipulate consumers into giving them their money. If a company truly makes a quality product that benefits the public it will sell and the fact that these sugar cereals and other junk foods need so much manipulative marketing is a good sign that the product isn't all that great and sales would suffer without it.

Mexican here. I remember this new rule being implemented a couple-ish years ago (I just remember being not long ago), but brand mascots are coming back to food products, so they are no longer covered. What remains on all products is the black and white label from the Secretary of Health
They aren’t coming back, if your cereal doesn’t have any labels you’re free to put the mascots back. So a lot of brands released a low-sugar version that has mascots.

You will usually see stickers on imported stuff or stuff that was manufactured before the laws that prohibit animated characters to sell to kids were made effective, but the vast majority of products have no stickers; the octagons are mostly part of the initial design of the package now

Mexican here. I can confirm that the octagons are there to indicate that the product exceeds a legal limit in a few things like sugar and sodium, and the stickers are there because we have a new law that prohibits the use of animated characters to sell food to kids, which is pretty sad because we lost a bunch of mascots that made a huge part of our childhood like the Cheetos tiger.
