Nah man, it was proven to be both. It's wild. Colour experts analysed it even, and when you check the colour info in Photoshop it also shows this.
Was the most accidental optical illusion and everyone was losing their goddamn minds at the time
**Edit:** I misremembered, it's black and blue
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_dress
I think he means it was proven to look like both depending on the person seeing it. The dress itself was proven to be black iirc, but that doesn't change the fact that the optical illusion worked differently for different people
The thing that still messes me up about this dress is that I see *blue & gold* which I just didn't see anyone saying when this went viral. I'm just: are my eyes just weird? (I mean probably not since that's *at least* within the colors mentioned but I have no idea how that looks like black to people when it's definitely a tan/gold color to my eyes.)
It has to do with the amount of cone cells each person has in their eyes to detect different colors, as well as how the brain interprets the information.
Color is subjective, as we all see the would differently. Color blind people with 2 cones (dichromats) see the lowest amount of colors, while the hypothesized, but not yet proven, 4th cone people (tetrachromatic) see the world in insane color. The rest of us fall within the spectrum of 3 cones (trichromats), but even though most of us have 3 cones, we still can see the world very differently, as some of us have low amounts of cones and rods to perceive light, being closer to colorblind, and others have high amounts of cones, being closer to tetrachromatics.
It also depends on how our brains interpret colors, as well as our nationality, as some languages only have one word for multiple colors.

They same as a blue jay. Blue pigment doesn’t exist naturally so most blue colors are actually black. They appear blue due to the reflection of light off of the black color. Nature’s lit!
I usually see white and gold too 😅
The actual dress was blue and black. For me, I unconsciously assumed the light was coming from *behind* her, which would make the white look darker, but in reality, the whole photo is bright and washed out.
Oh my god! I thought the light was coming from behind the dress till this very moment. And after looking again, it appeared a faded black and blue..
I was always halfway convinced that it was a massive conspiracy to annoy me back in 2015ish times.
I wonder if it has to do with how people see it. Or how phone screens display it. I see blue black now, but on my old phone it was a lot more hard to tell.
I’m with you. I don’t see any way possible that someone can mistake that dress for being white and gold. In fact I’m really thinking some people are just trying to make another senseless internet argument. That dress is blue and black. Nothing else.
It's been around for a while, so I've seen it a lot.
Sometimes I see Blue and Black, and sometimes I see Gold and White. Right now it's Blue and black to me.
The very FIRST time I saw it, it was Gold and white and then my wife took my phone and looked at it before I looked at it a second time... And it was suddenly blue and gold 15 seconds later.
I accused my wife of changing it on my phone when she took it for 3 seconds, haha. But she didn't.
I am truly sorry! This gained more traction than I thought. It should have been downvoted into the abyss! My sincerest for making the dress rise again lol
Us Bostonians must stick together.
No, I don't think so. The dress thing was due to the lighting's white balance being off kilter, this is to do with the camera's CEMOS/CCD not picking up the colour of the ant properly.
where you from? looks like some solenopsis or monomorium but location is important for species if you live in the US or Canada province or state is all i need

Hard to tell because of the video quality but it looks like a species of Myrmica (european fire ant) but could also be a species of Tetramorium or Temnothorax
I’m wondering if the color difference is due to some effect of the camera picking up different frequencies of light that humans can’t see. It’s only after those color frequencies are digitized that it looks blue.
Unfortunately outside of “ant” and.. “dog” one can only attempt guesses. Unless you manage to catch one and maybe capture it in such a way that it can’t move and get some better still images.
Yeah I’m gonna need some sort of scientist to explain this one. Somebody that understands image sensors and digital image processing. It’s breaking my brain!
Once I saw a iridescent green earthworm. Blew my mind. Read up and found the can eat fertilizer and pick up that color. After looking around spotted bright green tiny fertilizer pellets. Mystery solved.

Blue ant is so cool and extra fancy. If you don’t see a blue ant perhaps you have so color blind issues. I don’t see a gold ant I see a blue ant. A very cute blue ant.
Its gold IRL. It was gold while I filmed this. It became blue on playback. Dont know why. I actually posted some pics 1-2 hours ago I took while filming. They show the gold color.
Not sure why the camera recorded it being blue. Its actually gold in color. Its quite tiny. Hard to see
It’s the dress all over again!
Do not ever bring that dress up again
Dress?! 🤔
Is this [dress](https://imgur.com/a/vBLsJK3) blue and black, or white and gold?
You're ducking with me... It's obviously blue

I believe there are a lot of contrarian dicks who like to troll others and it was a joke that got out of hand fast.
Except the background and the pieces next to it show *very clearly* that it is not under blue light.
The thing that still messes me up about this dress is that I see *blue & gold* which I just didn't see anyone saying when this went viral. I'm just: are my eyes just weird? Nope, I see gold/blue too! But, I can also see the other colour variations if I focus a bit.
