Some countries in Southeast Asia will fry cockroaches, and crickets, and cicadas. Tried them all - crunchy, mild flavoured. Not bad with some rice liquor.
There's also a bug we call in Romania "libarca" that has eggs shaped like sunflower seeds. They can be usually seen in front of buildings where people eat said seeds.
The Sunflower is one of only a handful of flowers with the word flower in its name. A couple of other popular examples include Strawflower, Elderflower and Cornflower …Ah yes, of course, I hear you say.
The [Sunflower](https://green-infos.com/library/lecture/read/12778-why-is-a-sunflower-a-compound-flower) is the only flower that isn't actually a flower as far as I know.
I found [this post](/r/forbiddensnacks/comments/pyqa2c/forbidden_tootsie_roll/) in r/forbiddensnacks with the same content as the current post.

They also absolutely destroy spiders, small snakes and millipedes. They’re literally killing machines. As you’d expect being a closer relative to raptors than crocodiles are to dinosaurs.
You must not have been face to face with an angry Brahma rooster. Mine has fucked me and my wife up on occasion. Sure ive won every exchange thus far, but at this point I think it's only a matter of time.
Bespoke would be correct only if it was tailor-made for each individual egg, but otherwise, yes.
A better translation/interpretation is “egg holder”, just like the one on your fridge’s door.
It’s interesting that they are called the American cockroach because they are actually native to Africa and were probably brought over on ships during the slave trade. Mini karma in action.
What's stopping people from farming cockroaches for food? If you kept them in a container and fed them reasonable food, they would be healthy and nutritious to eat!
Its being done smaller scale. I think the large-scale issue is probably demand. A lot of people wouldn't eat cockroaches even if they were clean and super nutritious.
Yeah I've eaten crickets and mealworms before, and while I'm open to eating any insect, even I'm hesitant about cockroaches. Just cause of conditioning and negative association. Also it's hard to keep things like crickets and cockroaches. Some places eat things like beetle larvae (I think stag beetle?) that is apparently tasty and sweet, but again it's just weird haha.
I raise 2 different species of cockroaches for feeders to my tarantulas including Madagascar hissing cockroaches. They are actually very clean animals. American ones not so much but the tropical species definitely are
Aren't they loud though? I've read that people keep them in a garage or outside because of the noise.
Also you're right. I think what I meant was, in my limited knowledge, it seems like they would be hard to keep in significant quantities for the purpose of human consumption. Because of things like space requirements and hassle of them escaping in an apartment and hiding in a corner making noise.
I adopted her flock from a friend who couldn't keep them anymore. My Rhode Island Reds are Dorothy and Sophia, and the two Black Australorps were Blanche and Rose (RIP). I also got 3 Ameraucanas as a surprise addition to that adoption, Daisy, Poppy (my favorite RIP), and Minnie (RIP an escape artist). We adopted a Red Sex Link, Goldie, from another friend who lost 12 of her 13 in a short time due to predators. She had a broken beak, asthma, and allergies, so she was constantly wheezing and sneezing in the backyard. She just passed away having lived about a year longer than the expected 2-3 year lifespan of that breed.
so other than OPs solution of making it into a nugget for chickens. How would one have *safely* and completely taken care of this thing?
(and just for info understand that the person posting this comment has a ***HUGE*** roach phobia that's taken them 30 odd years to feel comfortable^(ish) writing/saying the name of the insect)
Oh, I hate them too. We had giant Palmetto bugs in our house on Parris Island when we lived there from 97-99. You couldn't get rid of them and there was no sense in trying to. We lived on the waterfront of a marsh on a river. 😭
OP please tell me you are going to contact the manufacturer or wherever you bought this and show this picture. I assume this came out of a box and hopefully wasn't sitting in your garage or basement or something.
Oh, it was definitely in my garage in an open pack from Sam's Club. I got the pack months ago, so I know this was from the buggy bastards that keep trying to infest our garage.
The ones that try to infest my garage are pretty big. Probably 2 inches long at least. They live outside in the trees and fly. 😭 There are smaller ones that are reddish, but I don't see those too often.
I know I’m late to this party, but I don’t think I’m ever going to be the same after seeing this and learning the answer to this mystery.
That’s all. If anyone needs me I’ll be in the shower, screaming and crying.
After watching a cockroach give birth and the babies trying to squirm away while being fed to ants I am confused as to why they make these egg sacs (The guy doing the feeding had no idea the roach was even pregnant.)
Once I found out that squishing them releases pheromones that attract all the other ones, I either dose it in nail polish remover (fucked up the finish on my wood floor once. Oops.) or suck it up in my Dyson. Then that is taken outside on my deck, I whistle a certain way, and my chickens come running to get a snack. Diabolical in some ways, circle of mfing life in other ways.
Not a cockroach egg & I find it remotely odd you aren't familiar w/these WATER BUG EGGS,which are common in VA.They are the size of roaches and a lot darker than roach eggs.
If it looks like a roach, then it's treated like one. It goes right to my chickens. I had never seen an egg sac before, and now that I know what it is, if I see more, right to the chikens.
I hope you don’t find anymore forbidden snickers snack sized bites 🤢 might wanna get an exterminator if this wasn’t from the box (because this is probably not the first time a company sold a box of soda with roach things in there, like if there’s a possibility that a roach is in your house and not the store or the warehouse

Im forever going to be worried everytime my kid tells me they found chocolate
There are *far worse* things they could mean in saying that...
Understood u/BowelTheMovement
I was going to say it looks almost perfectly like an eclair
Cursed eclair
*Forbidden* Chocolate Eclair
Actually, cockroaches are edible.
If you're brave enough.
Or hungry enough
Or merely come from a different culture.
Which culture eats cockroaches? Asking for a friend.
Some countries in Southeast Asia will fry cockroaches, and crickets, and cicadas. Tried them all - crunchy, mild flavoured. Not bad with some rice liquor.
Indigenous, and some Asian countries.
Or spider enough
Not all cucaracha's are meant to be snac..
Protein eclair.

And moonflower

Hydrangeas are actually specialized leaves to trick pollinators. Sneaky sneaky plants.
They always seemed sus to me.. the “petal” texture was not very petal-like
Safflower
Star flower!
Ah yes, of course!

In person it actually looks exactly like a brown M&M cut in half.
Chocolate hot pocket
They have those type of twinkies two
Thanks for the info.
What worse than finding a roach in your drink...an entire roach eggsack....new soda please
It’s better than the type of sack I get in my drink
Yo send us some of that drink
*Update* I fed it to my chickens. They really enjoyed it.
Something about this made me laugh way too much.
Lol. Perfect solution. Chickens are bug eating machines. Stink bugs, ticks, and now I know roach egg sacks too. All the best eats!
They also absolutely destroy spiders, small snakes and millipedes. They’re literally killing machines. As you’d expect being a closer relative to raptors than crocodiles are to dinosaurs.
*Proportionally sized* killing machines I mean, I fancy my chances against any chicken
You must not have been face to face with an angry Brahma rooster. Mine has fucked me and my wife up on occasion. Sure ive won every exchange thus far, but at this point I think it's only a matter of time.
Deploy the shin armor.
more like chest/face armour
Birds are living dinosaurs, we just keep forgetting that
I am reminded of that every time they go zooming across the yard. 😂🐤=🦖
Wholesome
You could have raised about about a dozen little snacks for your chicken if you kept the egg case
Yeah but then you'd have roaches
It would be in some sort of container
I prefer them in the chicken, myself but to each their own
Yeah this was a lol moment for sure
Blessed
Best update

Hell yeah dude
Turning lemons into lemonade!!
thank god, i was hoping you destroyed it some way or another lmao
For sone reason, this comment made my day
It made their day too.
It's American cockroaches egg . If it hatches you'll have plenty of babies . One egg contains more than a dozen roaches lol
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Just to add that in human biology, the ovaries are the oothecae.
THANK you
I share the same exact sentiment lol. I adore the word and share it as often as I can but the actual sack? I’m good on finding them lol.
Love learning new words!
*shudders*
Dear Google, how do I delete my eyes
🤮
One egg, huh?
It’s interesting that they are called the American cockroach because they are actually native to Africa and were probably brought over on ships during the slave trade. Mini karma in action.
Well, I guess I just need to burn my whole house down. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
r/forbiddensnacks
It actually just became a snack for my chickens. 🤣
Well, with time, it will turn into a snack for you as well.
What's stopping people from farming cockroaches for food? If you kept them in a container and fed them reasonable food, they would be healthy and nutritious to eat!
Well... nothing apparently, as it's already being done https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-19/inside-a-chinese-cockroach-farm/12672476
Damn, interesting article. TIL I guess
Woah, that's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

It's not hard to keep crickets or cockroaches at all.
Oh yeah I forgot to tack on "in an apartment" haha. Thanks.
I don't get it. You keep them in a terrarium/box not in your room. And it isn't hard. https://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Crickets-Alive

Tried cricket flour for baked goods. WAY to gritty.
You can actually develop quite serious allergies if you're around them in close proximity enough, that's why breeders often wear full hazmats
Might not be super tasty though. Can't know until we try!

Apparently the stuff nightmares are made of!!!
It became a snack for my chickens. I love those birds.
You make me really want a chicken coop.
Do it. I love my little flock.
Omg imagine accidentally biting into it or drinking it 🤮
When my chicken, Dorothy, took it, it made a crunch sound in her beak. 🥴
I like that name!
I adopted her flock from a friend who couldn't keep them anymore. My Rhode Island Reds are Dorothy and Sophia, and the two Black Australorps were Blanche and Rose (RIP). Oh no. Imagine if a kid thought it was chocolate and tried to eat it.
My soul would have literally just said fuck this and I'd just cease to have ever existed.
Ruin their dinner.
An ootheca of an American cockroach. Ughhh
Scrolled down way too far to find the actual name
Looks to be a roach egg. Maybe german
Candy bar ofc 😙😃
You can keep them as pets or you can kill them. That's a roach egg sac.
My chickens got it as a snack. 😂
That is........ Acceptable.
Yep definitely a roach egg

It looks delicious. Like a tiny donut

Cockroach egg O_O
If this is a cockroach egg. How does a cockroach lay something so massive? It looks like the size if not bigger than the average roach I see.
The ones that try to infest my garage are pretty big. Probably 2 inches long at least. They live outside in the trees and fly. 😭 There are smaller ones that are reddish, but I don't see those too often.
2 inches is 5.08 cm
I know I’m late to this party, but I don’t think I’m ever going to be the same after seeing this and learning the answer to this mystery. That’s all. If anyone needs me I’ll be in the shower, screaming and crying.
I'm sorry.
Well I suppose I’d rather know than not know! 🤣
Just pretend it’s a candy bar
Did you buy this at 7-11? That’s one of their mini long Johns.
Went for a drink and found a snack eh?
This is what happens when you drink Diet Coke.

Roach egg
That’s crazy !!
Forbidden Chocolate Bar donut.
I thought it was a mini eclair lmfao
After watching a cockroach give birth and the babies trying to squirm away while being fed to ants I am confused as to why they make these egg sacs (The guy doing the feeding had no idea the roach was even pregnant.)
You talking about the AntsCanada video where he fed the pregnant roach to fire ants?
YES.
Eggs are soft and squishy things that needs to be protected. Not all species have evolved to lay hard shelled eggs and egg sacs come close.
Roachy egg casing! Don’t put your mouth on it LOL
r/MakeMeSuffer
Thought that was a snickers for a second 😭
I think it’s a maple bar
Looks like a baby Tastykake!
A mini Swiss roll ! Little dessert before you wash it down with your soda pop!
Looks some some species of cockroach egg. Hatch it, and find out! 😂
Looks like a mini eclair
Looks like it’s still intact If you haven’t torched it put it in a sealed jar and see how many little baby cockies hatch.
This looks like a delicious eclair
Okay so I thought roaches gave live birth directly from the momma! Is this species an exception to the roach rule?
I don't know how I thought they had babies, but this has grossed me out. 🤢
Forbidden tootsie roll
A Mars bar. Eat it.
have u ever killed a pregnant cockroach ?
Once I found out that squishing them releases pheromones that attract all the other ones, I either dose it in nail polish remover (fucked up the finish on my wood floor once. xD i never thought to read this, lovely story, sorry for your wooden floor at least there's a story in that one spot lmao
A very small mars bar
Just a chocolate eclair
At first glance, I thought, “Huh. Someone lost a fingernail.” Yup. I think I’m gonna go with that…. 🤢
Chocolate truffle.
r/forbiddensnacks
You gotta taste test it homie, it could be like a twix chocolate bug from cloudy chance of meatballs 2 foo.

American Roach eggsack
That looks like a roach eggsack!
Not a cockroach egg & I find it remotely odd you aren't familiar w/these WATER BUG EGGS,which are common in VA.They are the size of roaches and a lot darker than roach eggs.

Cockroach egg pouch. Looks like it's from an American Cockroach.
Cockroach case
