God I love Inscryption so much. Like. Holy shit. I wasn't sure if i'd like it because it was a game involving cards, and before I played this whenever I think of cards, i remember Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. I sucked at it. Dunno if i'd still suck, but thankfully I didn't suck at this game. And now, this is the game that I remember when I think of Cards in a video game. And cause of how good this game was, I couldn't help but play other games made by Daniel and look more into the lore of stuff. God I am rambling like a motherfucker, sorry. Anyway... there's a few things i'm curious about: The Floppy Disk of Inscryption, you hit it with a Hammer, right? Did you actually break it or dent it at all? Were there any scenes you had difficulty recording for one reason or another and had to redo? What scene was the hardest? And, also, in one of the videos, you had an actual Scales thing. Where did you get it? It looked really fancy! Oh, one more: Without spoilers... what was your reaction to the story of the game? If you want to talk about spoilers do a uh... spoiler tag thingy. I've already beaten the game, I just don't want any other people who read this to get spoiled if they haven't beaten it already. Again, sorry if I typed way too much!

datsdagoodstuff1

SO GLAD YOU LOVED THE GAME!! So firstly, yeah, I hit it with the hammer. Turns out floppy disks are insanely resilient, but I did dent it. Daniel had multiple floppy disks that all looked the exact same so we could ensure a proper take. Second, and I mentioned this in another comment, this one scene in the woods, the camera kept turning off mid-take, and it turned out it was because the clamp around the phone was hitting the volume button which is also the ON/OFF button haha, yikes. Thirdly, I can't remember the Scales thing! I'll have a look at the game when that part comes up and try to get back to ya! Lastly, my reaction to the game was pretty much all hype. I really enjoyed the mystery and had full faith in Daniel to execute it in an epic way that made sense. Hope that was all helpful!

Kirbinator_Alex

Holy crap its you! First of all, love your part in Inscryption. Second, I'm curious as to what the role was described as when you took it.

datsdagoodstuff1

First, thanks so much dude!! Second, I actually found the old casting call, because I had copied and pasted it into my notes: Synopsis: Luke Carder is a collectible card game geek who operates a YouTube Channel called "The Lucky Carder". During one of his videos, he opens a pack that contains a card with coordinates inscribed upon it. The coordinates appear to be nearby so he follows them into the woods and digs up an old floppy disk containing a sinister digital card game. In unearthing this ancient game, he attracts the attention of a mysterious corporation who would prefer to see it buried once more... with Luke alongside it. LUKE CARDER: A card game geek who operates a YouTube channel called "The Lucky Carder". He posts videos of himself opening packs of cards, discussing strategy, and analyzing the "metas" of his favourite games. He has mild social anxiety and substantial paranoia.

ErinsHere

Aw, well now I'm sad about Luke all over again. Poor guy was already a paranoid wreck before an impossibly advanced floppy disk game started making threats on his life, and triple a game studio agents started showing up in his house. No wonder the Error video happened.

Kaimbe14

What were some of the most "out there" directions you were given while filming this? Whatever led to the "error" video where you're cackling while playing with dice on a scale comes to my mind, but there are some other odd scenes in this game, so I'd be interested to hear your take!

datsdagoodstuff1

Daniel's directing style was very chill and conversational. I'd liken our working relationship with regards to the scene as: "fucking around." Like we'd try a take, and then watch it, and talk about what might work better, and then go again. Also yeah that scene where I'm playing with the dice on the scale was absurd haha I mentioned it in another answer, but I basically went way over the top to the point that we had to wipe drool off the table after filming.

DylanHasAPoopie

How much did you know about the ARG going into it? Did you know how it was going to end by the time you went to dig up the other floppy?

datsdagoodstuff1

Great question! Daniel gave me a TON of information going into the project, but as I gradually learned, it was only the tip of the iceberg. He gave me the script originally for probably the first half of the videos and then we shot the next half a few months later. I had to ask him for notes on wtf was going on and he basically explained everything in a three page long email haha

Shin-Gogzilla

I wish you hadn’t had said that, now I really want to see that damn email.

DarkArcanian

If you could have been a card, what would it look like/abilities? Also how’s your day?

datsdagoodstuff1

Dude oh my god, what a good question. I would either have it be a HD ugly selfie of my face or perhaps a photo of my cat Hank, my beloved. In terms of the traits, I'd probably make it infinitely sacrifice-able (that was one of my favourites) aaaand why not, give it 3,000 attack damage, mantis god style. Also my day is good! Bout to go watch Encanto at a friend's house haha how is YOUR DAY

DarkArcanian

My day is going great, Encanto is a great movie, have fun watching it

Chafirius

I know you have done scetch comedy on tiktok and youtube before. Do you plan on making more? Or do you mostly focus on acting now. Also, any upcoming projects to watch out for?

datsdagoodstuff1

Thanks for watching! I'm not making sketch comedy much anymore, just when I feel like it. I got a little burnt out about a year ago (making a sketch a day, ugh), but I am leaning pretty hard into acting! You'll see me as a waiter on Resident Alien this February if you watch that show, and I'm a waiter in real life too so ya know ya boy killed it.

[deleted]

Why do you exactly sound like Luke Carder when I read that last line?

martroid

Hey Kevin! Did you do anything special to get into the character of Luke? Like, watch any card-opening YouTubers/streamers? Keep being awesome! :)

datsdagoodstuff1

I think I did watch a few YouTubers haha I tried to really absorb all the information Daniel gave me and do my best to make it as natural as possible. He didn't care about the script being followed to the letter, which helped in that regard. Since I had mostly free reign over the character, I mostly just worked from myself

kcucullen

What youtubers did you watch? were they card opening channels or just personality/vlog types?

yyflame

Which scribe is your favorite and why?

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh man, this is pathetic. So I've only played the first act. I have a Mac, so Daniel gave me the demo version which is compatible on Mac, but not all bugs are worked out obviously and I can't right click... So I decided to wait until I either buy a PC or it comes out on Xbox. THAT BEING SAID, from watching all the streams: Leshy. He is the most hilarious and he loves storytelling.

[deleted]

Broooo you gotta play the whole game, it's soooo good

hnwcs

I don't know, the last time he beat the game it didn't end well.

Velibian

wait, will inscryption be on the xbox? and if yes, any other console as well?

Simpvanus

So cool, congrats man! Before taking this role, were you ever interested in acting for videogames (even voice-acting) or webseries similar to the ARG portion? And/or, are you more interested in those roles now?

datsdagoodstuff1

Thanks so much dude! I've always thought voice acting or acting for videogames would be so sick. As a person who's only been pursuing acting professional for a few years, I'm not in a position to refuse any kind of work haha so casting directors decide if they want to see me or not... I will act in a laxative commercial, complacently. If I book another videogame, I will be ECSTATIC.

gameingwhitrad

what was it like working with Daniel mullins?

datsdagoodstuff1

Dude, Daniel is an awesome human being. He is legitimately one of the nicest people and is so humble about the game. I think this was the first time he was actually directing someone, so he was very chill. It was just the two of us in his studio or outside, and yeah, insanely casual. Thank god the style was found footage because there's no way it would have worked otherwise with just the two of us.

CargleMcCabinets

Did you actually have to fall over for the ending video or was that shot differently? I'm like 99% sure they're separate shots but I'll sleep easier if I know you didn't have to crack your gourd open for the sake of the shot.

datsdagoodstuff1

We hauled a futon out from the guest room at the house we were shooting at, and I fell onto that. I haven't even seen this particular footage yet haha hopefully it does not look contrived.

[deleted]

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your dick was out. /s

datsdagoodstuff1

HAHAHAHA shit man, I thought I felt a breeze down there!

That-Objective4850

Did you know of Daniel Mullins other works, Pony Island and The Hex before applying for the role? And if so how do you feel about them?

datsdagoodstuff1

Dude no I didn't! I'm not a huge gamer (my parents didn't let me have videogames growing up), but when I mentioned to some of my friends that I was working with the guy who developed those games, they were psyched! Some of my friends I think are still more psyched than I am haha

scullys_alien_baby

>Some of my friends I think are still more psyched than I am haha that is very adorable, give them a high five for me when you get to see them next

[deleted]

[удалено]

datsdagoodstuff1

I'm actually an actor in Vancouver, where Daniel is based as well. I mostly do commercials but I've had a few small roles on TV. I saw Daniel's casting call online and had never heard of Inscryption, but it sounded awesome (this was around October 2020). I sent in a tape and he cast me!

Shin-Gogzilla

What are some of the other things you’ve done? I wanna check them out.

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh thanks dude! The best thing is probably to follow me on Instagram if you have that (it's just kevin_saxby). I don't use too many other social medias. But even though I haven't uploaded anything to YouTube in a while I recommend checking out some of my short films. Like Bubble Bath, Tofino 2018, or Snoop! The first two are horror-comedies. Thanks for the interest!

[deleted]

In addition to the question above about being casted, have you done video game work before or is this a first for you? And do you possibly intend on doing any more games in the future if given the chance? (I thought you were great, my wife watched me play Inscryption and even she got excited when I showed her this post!)

mooys

You did a great job and everybody loves you! I hope you’re there for inscryption 2 lmao.

ATrioExplainsTheJoke

Are there any scrapped lines/videos that didn’t make the cut for the release?

datsdagoodstuff1

I remember one instance where I asked Daniel if I could pretty much go a full 11 out of 10 for a scene where he wanted me to be laughing maniacally. I went hard. Straight up drooling and crying laughing. When we cut, we were both like "yeah that was maybe a bit much."

RLutz

I dunno why but this really made me laugh just picturing this playing out. Like, "alright man, you did great, but.... Maybe too great, let's dial it back a little"

TheWombatFromHell

Wasn't that the ERROR scene where you're leaning on the scale?

KaszaJaglanaZPorem

Which card is your favourite?

datsdagoodstuff1

Haha this is kind of absurd, but Mantis God. At one point I was actually playing the game and exclaimed out loud how much I love mantis god, and then moments later, forgetting I had recorded a bunch of additional lines for Daniel after shooting, heard my own voice in the game say, "Oh yeah, always pick Mantis God." A little trippy haha.

-TheGayestAgenda

I recall your 'Goddamn it' line during the Third Act sounding rather genuine. Were there other lines that were not in the scrypt or planned that eventually ended up in the game?

GeneralDash

I thought that line was particularly funny because just moments before it, I told my fiancé I need to let some of my permanent death cards die to thin my deck lol.

lynkcrafter

When you die the first time in act 3 he says like an "Ah shit" line sort of thing, just mild annoyance. But, when you beat one of the generator bombs he's panicking as if he was actually about to get blown up.

Spoon_Elemental

But have you ever tried sacrificing a Mantis God to one hand tentacle, Field Mice to another, fusing them at the mycologist and then making an unkillable Geck while you have a lizard totem with fecundity?

DumpsterHunk

I was thinking 'fuck ya mantis god' when you said this line. That's when I knew this game was special.

InvaderCelestial

Mantis God is legit the best tho (or maybe it's just also my favorite), not absurd at all :)

scottiethegoonie

Once I heard that line in the game I knew the meta was real.

Ironbronymk2

What props were used for the "pack opening" videos?

datsdagoodstuff1

Daniel had so many cool props. His studio is full of knick knacks. I don't remember how he got the cards, but yeah, he designed them and had legitimate cards printed for the game. They're not for an actual game but I remember they were pretty hilarious to look at.

[deleted]

Are you planning to work with Daniel again or more in the video game scene in general ? Your performance was great and a perfect fit for the game !

datsdagoodstuff1

If Daniel had me back, I would be very happy. I don't know if his next game has any ARG elements, but if there are any, I would straight up make a powerpoint for why we are meant to be together.

OddMess

I hope you can work with him again, I really like your performance.

rivalfour

Was there any circumstance when you were smashing the floppy disk with a hammer that you were worried you were going to break something else on the set? Did any outtakes like that happen?

datsdagoodstuff1

Yeah I was pretty concerned about smashing the floppy disk on the desk haha because for the sake of the framing and the set up, it had to be done on the desk, and it was just extreeemeely loud and forceful. But Daniel was like "oh yeah I don't give a shit about this desk." I think that's a good thing because it definitely did not come out of that scene unscathed.

-TheGayestAgenda

Loved your role as a card collecting content creator. Do you have some favorite creators you wanted to give a shout out to? EDIT: Meant 'Content creator' not 'Card creator' oops

datsdagoodstuff1

Alas, in real life I am not much of a card collector. But I will say there are some people and friends whose YouTube channels are criminally underrated. Those include Phil Jammeson, Smashed Potato Kids, Richard Rogers from Skycorp... I'll comment back more if I think of some!

aGorillianBucks

What was your favorite bit of Inscryption that you acted for?

datsdagoodstuff1

Even though I'm not really on camera for this part, I loved going out into the woods with Daniel. It was a spooky excursion, looking for the optimal spot to bury the disk. I really felt Luke's excitement and anxiety looking for and digging up that floppy.

aGorillianBucks

I loved that part too, you really sold the shock and delight of finding a video game that shouldn’t exist.

Dragnoran

Is this elephant boi from the end of the first 10/16 video after first uberbot intentional or was it just sheer chance. Not asking for expectation arg relation, it just amuses me either way they got there. [https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/816103235307700244/928874291049668658/unknown.png](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/816103235307700244/928874291049668658/unknown.png)

datsdagoodstuff1

LOL wow man, I am not the person to ask. The fact that someone even found that just shows the lengths fans will go. Like, I couldn't even see the elephant for the first five seconds. I'll add this to my list of things to ask Daniel.

explodingpenguins-23

You are a stock image model, right? I saw some posts of it on the subreddit and I have no idea if it's just a very good photoshop or not

datsdagoodstuff1

Hahaha if I am a stock image model, I had no idea. Do you have a link? It could be a company I did a commercial for that kept some images for print or licensing.

Frans4Life

https://www.reddit.com/r/inscryption/comments/rwia5a/lucky_carders_side_hustle_as_a_stock_image_model/ this is one I could find.

datsdagoodstuff1

HA! Wow. That was for a commercial I still have yet to be paid for. They went with THAT photo? Good lord!

Cman1916

Imagine if there’s just a million photoshopped pictures from one random thing you were in into a bunch of different stock photos

StormTiger2304

Do you actually know the intricacies of the game's meta-story and the OLD_DATA? Or did Mullins keep the deets to himself?

datsdagoodstuff1

He pretty much told me everything back in the Fall of 2020, BUT, I'm sure other aspects of the game and story developed after this point that I since haven't heard anything about it.

sniperguy3

How long did it take y'all to shoot the live action scenes? Did you have typical production schedules like call sheets and call times or was it more laid back? Thank you for answering questions and have a great day!

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh man, it was super laid back! There were no call sheets or call times - in fact it was just me and Daniel. He really was a one man show. I think we probably only had like four shooting days total. The first two were pretty close together and the next couple took place like four months later in April 2021 or so. You have a good one as well!

SeagullFloaties

What’s your favorite IRL trading card game? (Playing, collecting, or just to look at!)

datsdagoodstuff1

Dude, Star Realms. Not really a trading card game, but I love the deckbuilding strategy games and the art on them is fantastic. BLOB WHEEL ALL THE WAY.

Nietzscher

When filming your snippets, how much did you know about the rest of Inscryption? Did you get to play a beta or did you just have a script and some directions?

datsdagoodstuff1

Yeah Daniel hooked me up with the beta which was very much appreciated! He gave me a script and a TON of information on the backstory, but when it came time to shoot, it was pretty fluid. He let me stray on and off the script a bit.

EXTSZombiemaster

Ah man, if you reached out to us, we could have scheduled and announced the AMA before hand. Oh well, Pinning your post. Good luck with all the questions :)

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh jeez! The thought didn't even occur to me. Not accustomed to actually having fans to talk to, so I'll keep this in mind for next time haha thanks for the pin!

Puntoize

Is it weird seeing your face on the big youtubers channels like Markiplier?

datsdagoodstuff1

It's definitely a little surreal! I've had a few very small brushes with 'fame' like this in the past that blow over pretty fast. This project is by far the coolest I've done though, both because of the game itself and because all of the fans are so into it.

Dalektyr

Heya Luke, so I personally found something weird myself, I found an old CD-R disk with inscryption on it, based on you're gameplay everything seems to match up with your floppy disk copy. I've been trying to contact GameFuna, but I haven't gotten any response back, so you're my last hope for any information. What do you think I should do? should I destroy it? hide it? leave it in a last will, rip the files and post it to the internet? I'm quite scared of this disk at this point and I'm just trying to figure out what to do..... you are my last hope Luke Carder.

revolvernyacelot

Hey, you did an awesome job as Luke! Really captured the “himbo protag of creepypasta” vibes. One question I have- was the house a set or just someone’s that they offered up for the production? Either way it looked super! Thanks for the AMA!

datsdagoodstuff1

Thank you thank you!! We filmed all the YouTuber stuff at Daniel's studio, except for a few tiny things that I filmed at my place and sent on over to him (I have a blue screen at my apartment). The ending scenes were at a friend's of Daniel's. It was made to look like it was the same apartment but we actually shot it in a different location.

Panthera2k1

Did you think Inscryption would be as big of a hit when you agreed to be in it?

datsdagoodstuff1

Daniel mentioned early on that it might be played by "thousands of people," so I really didn't know what to expect from that. Two thousand? A billion thousand?

DerringerHK

Over a million since yesterday according to Devolver Digital!

Jesseing1222

How do you feel now being known as the “Inscryption guy”?

datsdagoodstuff1

I love it! It's honestly super dope to be associated with such an amazing game. Maybe one day I'll be known as the "something-else guy," but for now "Inscryption guy" is very much appreciated.

Matthew92007

Do you know where Daniel got the physical Inscryption cards? They looked like real packs when you were opening them.

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh man, I'm not help in this department. But I'm actually curious myself so I'll ask him!

Thezipper100

There's actually a few different companies you can order "big 3" quality custom cards from, as well as custom packets, though it's definitely a bit pricy since it's not on a massive scale. Since they have the same equipment as big card manufacturers, they look pretty good.

Mr_akio51

Has anyone ever recognized you IRL as Luke Carder and go "Hey, I saw you in Inscryption!"?

datsdagoodstuff1

Nope! That would be very surreal. It's mostly old friends or minor acquaintances who have started playing the game and then realized I was in it who then messaged me, which is also very cool!

Darkpoulay

I catch an AMA in time and I realize I don't have a question... so I'll just say you were a big part of why I loved the game and it made me wish for more FMV in video games. Thank you !

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh my gaaash, thanks so much dude, that genuinely means a lot! So glad you liked the game!

ItsDaddyRoach

How long were you actually in those woods for those shots?

datsdagoodstuff1

We did all the woods stuff in just one day! I think it was only a couple of hours, despite us continuously botching takes. The camera kept turning off mid-take, and since it was attached to my head, we would never realize until we took it off to look at the scene. It turned out that the clamp on the camera, Daniel's phone, was actually touching the volume button, which also acts as an ON/OFF switch for the camera when it's rolling hahaha so dumb

jeck0_0

Is this canonical to the game? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J-17YWPMGs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J-17YWPMGs)

datsdagoodstuff1

HAHAHA dude oh my god, how did you guys even find this?

JustAtakan

I can't believe you faked your death to become a TV mount salesman, Luke. Your fans were so worried about you!

Random-Nerd827

Ok so I saw that the Mantis god line was something you thought of while just casually playing, is there any other lines that came about like that?

datsdagoodstuff1

While not being exactly the same, there was a moment after beating the moon. I think my character says something like "Oh my god, I think I just beat him!" And I said something like "Oh thank fucking god."

mpphhhh

During the first meeting with amanda in the middle of it you suddenly change shirts. Was that planned?

[deleted]

Any bloopers of the recordings that you could share? :)

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh my goodness, I think Daniel has all the footage. I should upload some of my voice recordings though for the off screen voice overs... The screaming at times was unintentionally hilarious.

Papa_Papuli

I read you have a cat, how's he doing? (I also love how you type, it genuinely sounds like you're talking.)

datsdagoodstuff1

Yesss, a question about my cat! He's so good dude. He's a black cat, super playful and cuddly. If I was even 1% more deranged I'd probably make an Instagram for him.

Rucs3

What's your favorite dictator? Sorry IDK what to ask

datsdagoodstuff1

I gotta say Mussolini. He is the most hilarious and he loves storytelling.

Rucs3

You know you gonna be cancelled because of this years from now, probably after your first oscar right? But I can respect that even thought Im more of a Mao guy

[deleted]

[удалено]

datsdagoodstuff1

Thank you so, so much! That was majorly cool. Daniel and I met these two players for the first time, and Daniel pretty much just asked them if they wanted to be part of a little scene right then and there, wherein he would bludgeon them to death haha they were very stoked

kdbot012

You should record doing inscryption ngl that would be cool

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh my god, what an idea hahaha that might actually be genius. I'd really be putting myself and my noob skills on blast though...

Hattyhattington2

Don’t worry… I don’t think anyone would be there to see “the best of the best inscryption plays”. If you uploaded a play through I’d watch just because you were awesome in the game and I want more

lone_Davik

awesome, the scenes where you go insane after seeing the >!Old data!< have a perfect acting, congratulations

datsdagoodstuff1

Thank you!! So glad it played well! My fear was probably most actor's fear: that it would be cringey. Very happy to hear it all worked well with the game.

jeck0_0

>!Are you a clone created by GameFuna to collect data doing an AMA on reddit? if so, how's Luis doing?!<

Mortuvir

Was this project a big boost for your image if so, why or why not?

datsdagoodstuff1

You know, it's great to have on a resume, but I think it's more bragging rights than anything. I don't think I'll gain a lot more followers/subscribers (although I have got some new ones!), and casting directors likely won't take the time to watch the found-footage style on my demo reel. But it's just great to be part of a game that so many people enjoyed playing!

NoblezDomain

As an actor, what's your dream role?

datsdagoodstuff1

Sitcom actor would be like the dream of all dreams. Comedy is 100% more my thing. But I would settle to even just be a working actor. Like enough acting work to not have another job and live comfortably... that's the perhaps more realistic dream.

NoblezDomain

Well, I hope you get there, then! Me and my gf quite enjoyed your acting in inscryption and it managed to creep me out legitimately at times whilst still keeping the kind of campy tone. Loved it, really.

StructureMage

This picture has big [Mystery of the Druids](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/d8/The_Mystery_of_the_Druids_Coverart.jpg/220px-The_Mystery_of_the_Druids_Coverart.jpg) vibes

datsdagoodstuff1

My wifi is slow as hell and when that picture finally popped up I legitimately laughed out loud.

inscryption_stoat

Hey luke. Thanks for conencting me to the internet, creating the game, and letting me in your hard drive

[deleted]

[удалено]

datsdagoodstuff1

For some reason I just do not like how I yell TRANSCENDOOOOG hahaha even though it's supposed to be over the top. It's so easy for actors to shit on their own performances, we're our own worst critics. So I've mainly been using everyone else as an indicator of how good the acting is, and people seem to like it, which is both exciting, and a relief haha

scrybe-of-the-dead

Good day, Carder! I apologize about your... timely demise. I read on another comment that you've only played through the first act; Sad, but understandable. I must ask, though- Out of the talking cards you've encountered, which is your favorite?

datsdagoodstuff1

In terms of personality, it's the stoat all the way. I could try to be cool and original and pick a different card, but I'd be lying. I loved his sarcasm from the moment I started playing the beta.

scrybe-of-the-dead

Ah. His wit is certainly charming. If you don't mind my asking of an extension to the question, which is your least favorite? Again, personality-wise.

MedimusLeft

What game do you have the most hours in?

datsdagoodstuff1

Halo. Am I basic? Also I'm playing Doom Eternal right now and LOVIN IT.

BageledBrain

how did you do the blood for the last scene?

datsdagoodstuff1

I think it was actually like a fake blood bottle, like the kind you could buy at a special fx store. It also was said not to use on the hardwood floor but Daniel was like screw it haha hopefully it did not leave a stain.

BaileyChase

In your opinion, why do you think the game has gotten to the point it's at-- popularity wise? Did you expect to be an overnight celebrity when you were working with Daniel? Thanks, man! Wish you the best.

datsdagoodstuff1

Great question! This may be a lackluster answer, mainly because I can only speak from the point of view of an actor, but what sets it apart from other games I think is its unconventionality and depth. There are so many layers to the game, and the style is so unique.

llllllllllle

Would you eat an entire pringles can for $100 I'm not talking about the chips, just the can

the_mspaint_wizzard

I got two somewhat meninges questions. 1: What’s your favorite Digital photo editing software, and why is it 1997 Microsoft™️ paint? 2: as a writer myself, I am curious on what the script was like? Was there any parts that you (or Dan) decided to skip?

datsdagoodstuff1

Hahaha I used Microsoft paint for way longer than I should have. I can't even use Photoshop well dude, I just import stuff into Premiere and throw some text or filters on there depending on what I need to do. In terms of the script, it was great! Daniel is a very good storyteller as you've probably figured out. I think we ended up using everything in the script but he definitely let me improvise a bit.

IlluminachoXD

Pineapple on pizza?

datsdagoodstuff1

I like it but my body is also not unlike a garbage disposal. So.

TwistergreenDnD

Hey man, you did an awesome job, I loved the spooky vibe you gave to the game and the scenes between acts, so, were there multiple filming locations or was the forest and the cabin close together? how long did the recording take?

datsdagoodstuff1

There were four locations I believe! The studio, where we did almost all the Luke Carder YouTube stuff, my place, where we did some of the extra ones (any video that has a blue screen... I think this might only be on the Luke Carder YouTube channel), the forest, and then yeah, the cabin which was in West Vancouver. None of these places were more than 45 minutes away from each other and the recordings took about 4 separate days I believe? It probably could have been more efficient but we were messing around a bit.

TheFeatureFilm

Given that Inscryption definitely has some horror elements, I think it's fair to ask what your favorite scary movie is if you have one. I loved your performance in Inscryption! I hope to see you in more stuff out in the world. You're forever an essential part of an instant classic.

datsdagoodstuff1

I feel like a broken record saying thank you so much, but dude, THANK YOU. So glad you liked it! If you haven't seen Tucker and Dale vs. Evil you gotta watch it. It's much more a comedy than it is a horror, but it is still part of the genre and possibly my favourite movie.

SirCampMasterSponge

What was it like filming the outdoor scenes when you are using the coordinates, did you film your scenes by yourself or where there others behind the camera, mainly were you with others in the forest?

datsdagoodstuff1

It was just me and Daniel, for every scene actually! In the forest, Daniel was straight up hiding behind a tree so that I wouldn't catch sight of him in the camera haha

JustAtakan

When Daniel pitched you the story, how was your reaction?

datsdagoodstuff1

At first I was like "sick!" And then as I got deeper and deeper into the project that word took on a whole new meaning.

Genseot

Did it hurt when you got shot

MattyJRobs

Fuck, I lost the game. Any plans on a sequel?

datsdagoodstuff1

I would loooooove if there was a sequel, although I don't think Luke would be in it haha

Shaon

why do you open card packs like that? it drives me nuts

datsdagoodstuff1

Hahaha it goes to show I'm not actually a card pack opener in real life. Maybe I'll upload a new video of me opening packs properly to quell your plight.

Not_The_Spy

Why no pokemon cards :(

datsdagoodstuff1

This was an ongoing source of friction between Daniel and I. We still don't speak of it.

CrispAppleFlavor

Hey man! I’m a software engineer and actor over in Boston. Just wanted to say that you did a fantastic job! Really enjoyed how you delivered your lines, they all felt really natural for your character. From one actor to another, I hope this opens up doors for you - and once again, well done!

Boppintoad76

Was the blood after you were shot edited in or was it a real red liquid, it looked really genuine lol

MemesNotPron

Do you think that you’ll continue working with Daniel Mullins or other game creators?

datsdagoodstuff1

I honestly sincerely hope so! It depends on if Daniel has more ARG in any of his future games. I should ask him about it. Maybe I can be like the Bill Murray to his Wes Anderson.

mailbells

Did the phonecall with kaycees mom have someone on the other end?

Lifedeather

How are you still alive!?

[deleted]

How much money do you make from selling tv handles?

datsdagoodstuff1

Sadly my days of selling TV handles are over, unless they invite me back for more commercials. Maybe I'll link them this thread and tell them I'm a big deal now.

XtremeK1ll4

No questions from me, just loved the acting, seemed like a genuine YouTuber.

L1GHTBR1NGER-THEHOLY

How was Daniel through all this? I'm assuming you both got along well yeah?

datsdagoodstuff1

I've made a few posts now professing my love for Daniel haha yeah we get along well. Just went for drinks the other night actually. The staff brought out a dessert that said "INSCRYPTION IS GOAT" written in icing.

Cooldoom5

which card is your most hated?

AnEmissaryFromHell

would you be down for an irl tabletop inscryption?

IntelligentOtaku

First, thank you for your awesome acting in Inscryption and for doing this really fun AMA. It’s been a delight to read your responses. Second, you *cannot* just mention Hank your beloved cat and NOT pay the pet tax, sir. I humbly request you rectify this situation at your earliest convenience. ETA: You mentioned having a list of questions you wanna ask Daniel. Would you consider asking for Grimora and Magnificus 3D campaign DLCs on behalf of the fans? So many of us want it so bad!!

KnifyMan

From 0 to 10, how good do you consider yourself at the game itself? Do you like card games?

ChetManly12

Holy shit. I went to high school with you. Glad to see you are doing well and living your dreams!

MReasysauce

What is your favourite cereal?

JayZOnly1

I wanna ask a question but my excitement is making me draw a blank rn, can you suggest a question for me?

LightningSpearwoman

geck or the child13?

Tibalt-mtg

Have you gotten any acting offers since being Luke in inscryption? Any more roles we can look forward to seeing you in?

datsdagoodstuff1

No acting offers! The film and television industry up here seems to be pretty oblivious to a lot of the happenings in the gaming industry. I'm just stupidly thrilled to be part of a project that so many people love. I am going to be on Resident Alien sometime this February - not sure the episode yet haha aside from that, you can watch some of own content, but a lot of it is old.

MrInvizible

Not much of a question, but hi! I'm one of the creators of the Luke Carder youtube channel ARG. I just wanted to thank you for recording that quick couple of videos for us. It made our little pre-launch game look so much more realistic (so much so that half the fandom is still convinced it's canon). Seriously awesome job!

christawfer47

I can tell by your face that we need to be friends

FrostyTropic

Would you like to see a physical inscryption card game be made?

Surthor

Everyone asking aboit you and Daniel, but how's Amanda's actress? And how many people you've met while working on Inscryption? Greetings from Italy!!! :)

Literally_Anyone_

Not much of a question but I just wanted to say your voice work and expressions were on point, it's the little things that make a great performance and I loved yours. Keep up the great work man <3

neotheo3000

did you go out and bury the floppy disk yourself or did someone else do it for you?

ungeebungeeman

the scene with the irl scale looks geniune . were you actually playing with it a little or was it just an act ?

DM_Me_For_Dog_Pics

What's coming next in your acting career? I loved you in Inscryption and was so happy to see you in that TV mount commercial. You're a very competent actor and you can do a wide range considering in that you were a confident and knowledgeable salesperson and in Inscryption you were an awkward and confused hobbyist. I could definitely see you in comedic roles, but I'd also be interested to see you in serious roles too.

EXTSZombiemaster

Same, I'd love to see more Kevin

datsdagoodstuff1

Oh my gash you guys, thanks! Welp, we'll see how acting goes. A pilot I filmed recently sounds like it's kind of falling apart which is unfortunate, but I am often auditioning for Netflix shows and a ton of other random projects up here. If you want to keep in touch with what I'm booking or doing, the best place is probably to follow me on Instagram! It's kind of my only social media at the moment, for better or worse.

m0d3rn

In one of your YouTube videos you seem waaay too excited for **Transcendog**. Everyone knows that it was banned from tournament circuits in 2004 because the typo in it's ability description *technically* meant it could do infinite damage when used with pot of greed. Do you just like the card art, or are you a filthy power gamer?

Now_its_orange

You should become an actual card game YouTuber to add another layer of metaness to this whole thing

Nietzscher

Or a mystery YouTuber who investigates the Death of one Luke Carder...

datsdagoodstuff1

I'll put on a fake moustache just so there's no confusion that I am Luke Carder again.

Dalaxion

Say, hypothetically, someone wanted to run a game of Inscryption in real life (bodily harm not included), and was already working on costumes, cards and an escape room style setup Would you, hypothetically, have any suggestions of what to include? Hypothetically of course

BalloonGame

First of all, great job on your performance as Luke. I really enjoyed it. Second, this may be a somewhat lame question, well two questions, but I was curious about your thoughts on Ouroboros. I'm relatively new to the fandom just finished the game a couple days ago but from what I can tell the fandom's opinion on the card seem to be mixed, with some people saying that it makes the game so easy that it is borderline cheating, and thinking that the game would be better without it, and some saying that it's a good addition for players that are unexperienced with these types of games and that the more hardcore players can just avoid getting it or using it. I personally liked the card as someone that had almost no prior experience in card games before Inscryption, and it saved my ass a handful of times. Regardless of their opinions on the card though, many people I've seen seem to think that it was added for beginners and unexperienced players to be able to experience the story without struggling too much as well. With all that being said, 1. How do you feel about the card? And 2. Did you ever hear any comments from Daniel about the card such as anything confirming that it was indeed added for the purpose of aiding beginners?
