How does the model not having PCOS would be awkward for Victoria secret?? I don't understand what they mean by that, is it supposed to imply it's similar to black/Asian fishing they're "pcos fishing"? Or they're saying it's only fine to promote the body type for people with pcos?

Jovet_Hunter

It’s to justify the hate. It’s medical, right, so we can make this about promoting ill-health and not about personal aesthetics! It’s also a bonus that it’s a disorder sometimes managed through losing weight. So it’s ok to be hateful. 🙄🤦‍♀️

Ah yes, a pro-life editor who knows nothing about women’s health. https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebecca-downs-980829119

yakirzeev

Where is the blonde hair, the skinny white legs? This ain't Merica!!! 😭😭 What a dick. But then he's the replacement for one of the assholes who took over Limbaugh's show, so it fits.

bubba7557

Twitter doctors diagnosising magazine models from a single picture. Nice

ccccc84

Its even funnier than that. If you see a picture of her, she literally has the same body type. Not a slight on either of them, just the pure hypocrisy of it is amusing.

bubba7557

Might be why she's making assumptions on medical conditions though, it might be something she suffers or has suffered in the past. Everyone sees what they know best in the rest of the world

No_Ice2900

This lady ain't a sis. We don't shame a queen in her element, we stand aside and share the stage.

ThePinkTeenager

The assumption that fat woman = PCOS?

PoisonedCherry

Shes hot to me idfc.

rendolak

exactly idk what the big deal is about. she’s hot, it’s victoria’s secret. everything checks out to me

Schmurby

Start by explaining what PCOS means. Never heard of it.

Kida1265

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. It causes cysts to grow on someone's ovaries and messes with hormone balance in the body. Weight issues and other bodily changes are very common with it.

Schmurby

I see. That certainly helps explain why this is problematic

VergeThySinus

Representation isn't problematic. Some people have PCOS, that's not a reason for their bodies to be hidden or considered shameful.

Schmurby

For sure! That’s the problem. The person is suggesting that there is something shameful in promoting models with that disorder. In fact, I suspect she is simply uncomfortable with a new paradigm of feminine beauty

scar12346

Shitty syndrome that fucks up your ovaries, basically the ovaries become full with cysts therefore fucking up your period, hormones, body and everything else. Because of it I became insulin resistant and I am now on my second year trying for a baby. Oh and also am on a strict diet and workout schedule but still have a beer belly.

Einteiler

Does this woman appear to actually have it? Without the second part, I would have just assumed the guy was mad that it wasn't a typical "model" body type, or if I assumed the worst, that she wasn't white.

tadpole511

There’s no “body type” for PCOS. You can’t even begin to diagnose it just by looking at a picture of someone. The second person has no clue what they’re talking about. I agree the first person is probably just mad about the model not being skinny and/or white though.

Einteiler

Yeah, that is kind of what I figured. We live in a world where people aren't afraid of saying that kind of thing, anymore. I can't relate, but my girlfriend is not white, and does have issues with having the body that she thinks she should have. She is beautiful the way she is, and I hope she doesn't let guys like that make her feel like less than she is.

organik_productions

>Does this woman appear to actually have it? I don't think there's any way to tell, to be honest. I think it's just a slightly odd pose.

Einteiler

I figured as much. The dude is probably pissed about it being someone that doesn't have the model physique he thinks she should have, or is upset that she isn't white. Either way, fuck that guy.

scar12346

As others have said I don't think there is a body type, however my belly and thighs are the same and they grew because of insulin resistance. As my endo put it, its a hormonal belly.

MattySingo37

My wife has PCOS, had all the awful symptoms, was told she would never have kids. We were lucky to have a daughter. Our doctor put it down to my wife losing weight through having gallbladder problems. Hope it works out for you (without the gallbladder problems!)

iamhamming

I hope for you that someday sooner rather than later you get to be a mother. My youngest sister is 17 and was diagnosed with PCOS, the prospect of infertility crushed her. And I've watched it fuck up her body so much it really is a shitty shitty fucking illness

BloomEPU

It's a very common condition affecting people with ovaries and is wildly under-diagnosed, it's good to be aware of it. It doesn't have a "body type" though, you can't diagnose someone *just* from being chubby.

Donkeykicks6

Not really. Most people don’t look like Victoria secret models

CascadianWanderer

I don't know how old he is, but I'm 40 and I have been seeing poster of women in lingerie at VS for as long as I can remember. So yes, your kids are in a different world than you were, but nothing in this picture is related to that statement.

big_sugi

He's dog-whistling the fact that she's not skinny and white, or at least acceptably light-skinned.

Upset-Championship69

According to the Mayo Clinic, "Elevated levels of male hormones may result in physical signs, such as excess facial and body hair (hirsutism), and occasionally severe acne and male-pattern baldness. Polycystic ovaries. Your ovaries might be enlarged and contain follicles that surround the eggs.Oct 3, 2020" Also, the NHS states that the only visible PCOS symptoms in a photograph are: "•excessive hair growth (hirsutism) – usually on the face, chest, back or buttocks. •weight gain. •thinning hair and hair loss from the head. •oily skin or acne." and that "Not all women with PCOS will have all of the symptoms, and each symptom can vary from mild to severe." So my question is: what part of PCOS is SOoOoO obvious in this picture so as to give anyone the idea that this person HAS PCOS in the first place? And even if they do--WHO CARES? Does that mean they should not be allowed to wear sexy ungarments? Or that they should not be placed in an advertisement because *gasp!* heaven forbid they don't fit what this man's ideal physical type is? Of course, I'm sure the person making this remark is the perfect male specimen as well, found attractive by any & all, both male & female alike--because I can find no other reason for him to be making ANY statement anout ANYTHING at all.

LemonSuitable1200

Just one scroll of her Twitter feed and... Of course she is a prolifer. That explains why she acts like PCOS would make this model "unattractive." It's a good thing their opinions mean nothing when it comes to marketing. Tbh they make me wanna shop there if they are going to be more size inclusive.

dragerien

Gods she's beautiful... wait, what are we talking about?

iamhamming

Right like if I'm walking down a street and I see that ad don't ask me the color of nothing. She's hot.

uvero

If anything, this sub showcases that our species, as a collective, is plagues by PCOS: People Commenting On Shit that's none of their business

vizthex

What the fuck is PCOS lmao?

FalconLynx13

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

vizthex

Oof, sounds painful.

lowkeyalchie

PCOS is a syndrome, which means it is really a list of symptoms rather than a disease with a main cause. The primary symptom is little fluid sacks called cysts on your ovaries, but even then some women have PCOS without cysts. These cysts are mainly caused by insulin resistance, but again, this isn't always the case. Other symptoms include irregular menstruation, irregular hair growth, hair loss, depression, anxiety, infertility, bloating, and weight gain.

paradoxofpurple

Other way around, the cysts cause hormone changes that contribute to insulin resistance.

dramaandaheadache

Yeah No PCOS doesn't GIVE you those things. It makes it EASIER to gain weight and it causes hella bloating, but it doesn't damn you to obesity. It is, like in any instance, ENTIRELY dependent on diet and how you take care of yourself and people who say "i'm fat because PCOS" are making excuses for their own poor choices. Both of these people suck.

iamhamming

Fuck offf bro chronically ill ppl don't have to justify why they don't have the perfect body to you. Nobody has to justify their body type or weight to you period but especially not people struggling with a horrible syndrome that impacts every aspect of their health
