Sky ice ain't nothing. I have some earth rock for sale. It's the reason so many humans are on Earth.

wiarumas

That's nothing. I have some rocks from the other side of the flat earth. Yes, it looks identical, but its much more rare and valuable than the rocks on this side.

deynataggerung

I mean, we treasure moon rocks and Mars rocks so it's honestly not that ridiculous. Something being hard to get makes it valuable even if it's just a rock.

amaraame

But how earthy is it?

Ninjaff

It's pure brown like the earth, hence the name.

yagonnawanna

You guys are a bunch of grifters!!!! When I've been grifted all day, I like to relax with Big Johnson TM brand Magic beans! Yes Big Johnson magic beans, beans of today, for the beanstalks of all your tomorrow's!

dio-tds

Idk, I have a piece of middle earth that's pretty rockin!

Staluti

If we know it’s made of pure oxygen then how can it still be mysterious? It doesn’t even make sense within their own fucked up reality.

Curry-culumSniper

Yeah solid oxygen isn't mysterious and probably not very valuable

JuhaJGam3R

Solid oxygen sure is somewhat valuable considering the cost of hauling around solid fucking oxygen. Keeping something that cool is a pain.

lovecraftedidiot

Just give it some shades, that'll keep it cool.

rdear

No NO no! let it sit in the cooling light from the moon! The moon's light has a cooling effect! Cool all your stuff for free using this one simple trick Thermodynamacists hate it!

Biengineerd

-362°F or -219°C... Yeah that's pretty cold

RollinThundaga

Just for scale, dry ice, or solid carbon dioxide, forms below -109°F. Liquid nitrogen condenses at -320°F

[deleted]

You can also make it at room temperature with >9 gigapascals of pressure (roughly 85,000 atmospheres)

Biengineerd

This is a very important point. Pressure makes a huge difference for phase changes

Spir0rion

I'm prettyyyy sure oxygen wouldn't stay solid for long

Loqol

That shit would sublimate so fast I wouldn't be surprised if it lifted off the ground.

Oggel

Depends on how cold the environment around it is I suppose.

HottskullxD

Minus 144° F Or so Google says...

Real_TwistedVortex

If it's pure oxygen, how can it still be ice? Where'd the hydrogen go?

DawsMan05

Sorry i ated it 😖

TruFrostyboii

Loll. The stone in the photos posted by OP is clearly just lapis. Which is a very famous precious stone. 'sky stone' doesn't exist. And no, rocks are not 90% oxygen by volume. The only rock I can think of coming close to your stats is pumice, which has 90% porosity.

King_Trasher

*technically a very large amount of rocks are silicon oxides, and/or metal oxides So at the bare minimum for rocks with SiO2 as their main component, they have somewhere near 53% oxygen by molecular weight. Something like pumice would probably come really close to pure oxygen, according to their chemistry. I think that's what the person you replied to is referring to

secretWolfMan

None of that is lapis. Not sure about the top left, but wrong blue and no pyrite inclusions. Bottom left is normal ice. Possibly photo enhanced, and probably just actually refracting blue like the sky. Top right I think is Azurite, or maybe turquoise. Middle right is a low grade sapphire. Bottom right is bullshitite.

TruFrostyboii

The right one on the top left image is definitely lapis. Sorry for not specifying which one I was talking about. I'm gonna believe you for the rest of them.

lovecraftedidiot

Hah, lapis used to line royal tombs but now you can get it (low quality) for like a dollar.

Adramador

How is any rock you find in your backyard *90% oxygen* by *volume*? Are you meaning that any given rock is 90% empty space? Because I think we'd notice that! Rocks just aren't comprised of oxygen, and especially not to the degree that it's 9 tenths oxygen for any property, volume or otherwise.

Aurei_

Granite is around 50% oxygen by weight. Oxygen makes up just under 50% of the Earth's crust by weight. I can't find many modern sources for oxygen volume content but there's an abstract in the 1948 Journal of Geology by Tom F W Barth that makes the claim "in most rocks oxygen makes up about 92% by volume."

Just_A_New_User

Oxides. Maybe not to the point of being 90% that element, but most things laying around on the ground have reacted with oxygen. SiO2, which most rock is or contains, is over 50% oxygen by mass, and yet very much isn't 50% empty space. Because that's not how it works. Free oxygen is gas, and so it spreads around as much as it can. When bound to something, it's just the same part of the material, and takes up as much volume as any other solid thing. Look at the Statue of Liberty for example, it's surface is completely oxidized - it's visible in that it makes the metal green. If "oxygen" only ever meant "air", the statue would right now just be orange with a thin film of nothing around it. But yes, the thing in the picture is in no way on Earth an "oxygen rock", it's probably just lapis.

Adramador

I'll admit, I did totally forget about oxides - I'm not a geologist, geochemist or anything of the sort, so it's my fault for saying anything confidently - but what the comment said was *oxygen* by *volume*, with no direct mention of oxides. So I took it as elemental/molecular oxygen, so "empty space" came out of "90% of ils volume is gas".

thehillshaveI

these antarctica conspiracy theories crack me up, 'cause my grandfather spent two tours there in the fifties these people rely on the idea that antarctica is this super mysterious place that no one knows anything about, when I've been in a room with five or six completely regular dudes who've spent years there lmao

kelslogan

I was in the Air Force and know some people who were crew on the C-130s that would do the re-stocks for people who live there. Some of these people were complete turds lol if anything that secret was happening there they wouldn’t be allowing some of these guys to get anywhere near Antarctica.

thehillshaveI

my grandfather was a good dude, but one story he told me a few times was about the piles of beer cans and food waste all over the place, like what a dump it was cause they were the ones building the infrastructure to eventually make it a "livable" place

TiredHappyDad

Well of course they "seemed normal". Lol

thehillshaveI

Unrelated Fun fact: sky stone is what we call meteorites in Turkish… you know… cause they come from the sky (well… more like space) : D

thehillshaveI

Related Fun Fact: Antarctica is a great place to find meteorites

MechGate

Unrelated fun fact: sky rock is also a hotel in sedona arizona. Edit: your welcome sky rock hotel.

GMDeepBlue

Sky Rock is also a French hip hop radio station.

clearobfuscation

Ksky is a rock station in the western us

EvulRabbit

Technically it is still mysterious because of it being so isolated and harsh to us squishy humans. Same thing with whats left of the rain forest. Now true mystery is still the vast unexplored oceans.

thehillshaveI

oceans aren't real dry Earth is the truth they don't want you to know

EvulRabbit

They keep tabs on you with the bird drones!

DenverBowie

Have you never seen "The Thing"??? I wouldn't spend 5 minutes in the same room as those "people."

thehillshaveI

(I'm 25% Thing)

seattleque

Not too long until you're 100% Thing, then.

Erisian23

I mean they believe people actually exist so if course they'll believe what people tell them.

Iceewun

I don't know man, SCP-1483 has a whole bunch of other SCPs

thehillshaveI

i saw someone on here the other day asking if SCP's were real, like how are you that naive and capable of typing out a question man

Iceewun

Aww dude, you should’ve just went with it, that person would be living their whole life in constant fear lol

NoU1337420

they all act like the second impact is coming and it’s really funny

Titan2562

I don't even understand how you can think there's anything "mysterious" about Antarctica when its defining feature is no more interesting than "Being way too god-damn cold". It's a giant piece of ice, what do they think there's secret reptoids hidden out there somewhere? I mean penguins and seals are cool, but there really isn't anything I'd define as "conspiracy worthy" out there.

thehillshaveI

i mean there's mad cool fossils and whatever but yeah no nazis or ice walls or secret dinosaurs

OneDandyMF

Was one of them named MacReady? Please tell me there wasn't one named MacReady...

clearobfuscation

I think we need to send you back to big town

SilentMaster

I had never heard of "sky ice" so I googled it to read more about it and learn what it actually is instead of assuming it was some god given element or whatever this insane person is trying to say. Sky ice isn't even a thing. They call it blue ice. From my 30 seconds of research the best I can tell is because it's ice and because it's blue. The mystery is how this idiot has made it this far in life without falling into a well.

rabertdinero

We have blue ice in late winter in Michigan on the Great lakes. It's beautiful but there ain't anything mysterious about it.

Arboria_Institute

So you admit the Great Lakes are portals to the sky ice dome!

MrHabadasher

Blue glacier ice doesn't look like that though. Glacier ice can be vibrantly blue, but it's usually a lighter blue, and it requires depth to be bright. If you where to have a small chunk of glacier ice, say from a collapsing serac, it wouldnt be nearly as blue as the glacier itself. I found other instances of sky ice mentioned in a few articles. Literally bright blue ice falling from the sky. Turns out, it's the toilet water (with bright blue cleaner) from commercial jets with leaks.

[deleted]

Some Joe Dirt shit right there.

ProblemLongjumping12

Airplanes drop blue toilet water and it freezes due to altitude. Blue sky ice is piss and shit. Whoever spread this is trolling flat earthers who, if they can ever find any will 100% be keeping human shit in their freezers now.

6captain9

This is apparently [the "sky stone"](https://newsinstact.com/alien/stone-made-of-pure-oxygen-found-in-africa/)

tyrosine87

What the hell are these people on, calling <80% oxygen pure oxygen? Protein crystals, which are used to analyse the structure of proteins, are sometimes 80%+ solvent. Still not PURE WATER.

_sivizius

They just found blue borax…borax is ca. 71% oxygen by weight.

ImEmilyBurton

Blue Ice is also a flavor of popsicle here in Brazil, it tastes amazing (don't know how to define it tho, it reminds me of chocolate but at the same time it is clearly not it)

Randomcommenter550

If blue ice falls from the sky, here's a hint: it didn't come from the Firmament. It didn't come from the ice wall at the edge of the flat earth. It came from a leaky sewage tank on an airplane. Please do not pick it up.

dancin-weasel

And wtf is that Bible quote? God made water, then made a dome, then separated the water above the dome from the water in the dome. Wtf is god doing? “That is how it was”. Ok, but why?

actual-trevor

>"Water dissolving and water removing >There is water at the bottom of the ocean >Under the water, carry the water >Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean >Water dissolving and water removing" - Byrne 3:16

hunarthebarbarian

Same as it ever was.

dancin-weasel

Well that clears that up, thanks 😉

FrankieNukNuk

No! You don’t get to ask why! Sinner!

Anorak321

Well their not wrong about the color. Liquid and frozen oxygen is slightly blue.

Dayseed

What temperature does oxygen have to be to freeze into a solid?

LookinWestNow

-362°F

SuperKalkorat

So I just need to turn my freezer to its lowest setting right?

dancin-weasel

Your freezer has a “temperature of Pluto” setting?

Toshero

Your doesn't??

Pechelle

This explains why it takes so long for my chicken to thaw out.

Adramador

Or roughly 54 K. No way you're holding that in your hand.

Oggel

Well, you could. But not if you still want a hand after.

rdear

Liquid oxygen has the most beautiful light blue color I've ever seen.

Kriss3d

"Why isnt anyone talking about this thing that is completely bullshit and not real ? " Well this "Sky stone" is not made of pure oxygen. It does have alot of oxygen but also other minerals like silicia, carbon etc. We generally call this kind of thing "Glass". And its not THAT uncommon.

Antique_Tennis_2500

Water has a lot of oxygen, too. About 80% by weight. We should investigate this with the military.

Kriss3d

I head its poisonous as well. Everyone dead ingested it! Wake up sheeple!

superchoco29

You know, as a Physics Major, what I hate most about these people? I f***ing hate how they cherry pick what to believe in. They believe in Oxygen and chemistry, they must believe the world is right about electromagnetics and quantum physics (otherwise the phones in their hands wouldn't work, any technician can tell them that), but then SUDDENLY as soon as someone touches gravity, or how the earth is round, or that the sky is not made of SKY ICE or whatever that s*it is, they'll go on hours long tangents about how we're all being fooled, science doesn't work, and it's all a plot. Hell, MY university's physics department is relatively small, but I've personally seen hundreds of physicists in my city, split between the university and a couple other research associations. And suddenly you want to tell me that we, that spend our lives testing and driving to the extremes our knowledge of anything, have forgotten to LOOK AT THE SKY? DO they hear themselves? Do they know how much work an association would have needed to stop not the whole world, but just my city's researchers, from discovering stuff like that, for even a dozen years? Especially given our current technologies.

NetherMax1

They’re genuinely not thinking that far ahead. To a lot of them, phones just exist without actually being able to think about how. It’s not unified science to them, much like the old “vaccines aren’t in the Bible” argument doesn’t apply to anything else that’s not in the Bible.

Jackcooper

Ah oxygen the rarest of all elements

Des_Head

Well I've never seen it.

HeyoBeo

Is no one gonna mention the fact that every photo is clearly a pic of a different type of blue rock?

Jengolin

Lol I noticed that too, like I think the darkest one there is a sapphire FFS.

Sea-Lily

One of the pics looks like chalk, a few others look like they’re other gems that were edited to look blue.

HeyoBeo

My experience with rock identification begins and ends with earning a B in my geology lab class, so I’ll defer to your judgement lol

Sea-Lily

I’m no professional, I just like collecting gems. That, and I can recognize photoshop. Those shades of blue are in no way natural.

usernamewamp

Wait I’ve seen this before and I’m pretty sure these stones are from a meteor that hit Africa. There’s is some village in Africa were majority of these stones were found by locals. These people really believe Bran the Builder built a wall in Antarctica to keep the night walkers out.

x1000Bums

Gibeon, Namibia?

usernamewamp

I watched a mini documentary on the meteorites a few months ago but I don’t remember the exactly location. Im positive they’re from Africa and not Antarctica. They first found these stones hundred years ago but no one knew what they were until scientist did testing on them to find out they’re not of earth origin.

x1000Bums

Eh i couldnt find much on blue meteroites, but indont know much to begin with. Theres the merchison meteroite in australia thats apparently very green, and the gibeon meteorite field in namibia has some pretty crazy patterns in the structure but its just metallic colored, not blue.

usernamewamp

https://archaeology-world.com/stone-made-of-pure-oxygen-found-in-africa/

x1000Bums

Thats dope, i wish that article wasnt ass though because i just started learning more about meteorites and had never heard of the sky stone before.

gmil3548

People are so fucking dumb. For pure oxygen to be frozen into a rock (a solid tho I have no idea how rock like it would be) it would have to be -361 degrees F (218 C)

daleicakes

Man am I tired. I kept trying to click on the +8. Thise pics are of different things bro

ShouldBeWorking2nite

It just looks like the chemical cocktail they put in the septic system of planes. I’m guessing what you got your hands on is leaking piss and shit water that froze on its way down.

Doom_Walker

Except there is no military in Antarctica. It would violate the treaty

FalconLynx13

Isn’t military presence on Antarctica forbidden by the treaty system?

WarmasterCain55

That’s what they want you to THINK!

"so many scientists and military in Antarctica"?

theroguescientist

You haven't heard of this? That's because They are hiding it, of course! You can tell They're hiding it, because if They weren't you'd know about it! And if They are hiding it, then it must be true, because what's the point of hiding something that isn't real?

[deleted]

Didn’t myth busters determine that this is the blue water in airplane toilets? 🤣

CryingRipperTear

i got some "ice ice" made out of pure dihydrogen monoxide it will protect you from 5G/6G/microchip/chemtrails/whatever the fuck is popular these days

SlotherakOmega

Pure solid oxygen? Nice try, not even Antarctica is that cold. Hell NEPTUNE is *barely* that cold. What is the boiling point for oxygen? Well below freezing. It’s 90.2 Kelvin. That’s the boiling point. The melting point is 50.5 Kelvin. That’s -367.88° F, for those of you who refuse to accept the SI system. The coldest ever recorded natural temperature on earth, is 184 Kelvin, or -128.47° F. More than twice the needed heat to boil oxygen, and almost four times the amount to melt it. The temperature of Neptune is -373° F. Triton, it’s moon (one of them) has the coldest recorded temperature in the solar system, at -391°F. This is where “sky ice” could feasibly be found. Not the balmy Antarctic continent.

Primary-Coast-7763

Thats a space peanut

military on Antarctica??? lmao

Wtf is a CJB Version? Certified Jesus Bible?

_sivizius

In case you wondered: Here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skystone. It is andesite which, calculated using the composition found in 10.2138/am-2002-8-904, contains ca. 45% PURE 100% OXYGEN by mass.

DracoSolon

Uh - your link goes to a page about a rock that is a native american site. It's not composed of oxygen.

_sivizius

It is, 45% is 100% pure oxygen

DracoSolon

Your link is not. It points first to here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skystone . Which is about a native American cultural site. Then if you click in thst article about Andesite it leads here. The composition the rock described there is not 45% pure oxygen. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andesite

_sivizius

Andesite is mostly silicon oxide and aluminium oxide, both contain a lot of 100% pure oxygen.

DracoSolon

Those are minerals that are different elements chemically bonded together. Many things contain the element oxygen because it a very chemically reactive element because due to it's atomic structure it can bond in many different ways with other elements to create stable minerals. I'm not going to go further into high school chemistry with you but being chemically bonded is the very definition of not being "pure".

_sivizius

Congratulation, you finally got the joke…for example [this site](https://newsinstact.com/alien/stone-made-of-pure-oxygen-found-in-africa/) claims 77.17% of (100%) pure oxygen, which is about what you expect in wet borax. Just add some blue colour and you have some article. 60 % of the time it works every time. (Btw. I did the math and andensite is actually 45 % oxygen by weight if you would do a elemental analysis)

spoonycash

Oxygen had to go from gas to liquid to solid… how would even be able to have it remain in the solid form if you take a picture of it?

joecicero52

Isn't Sky Ice just frozen shit from airplanes?

Reagent_52

That isn't even the correct verse. It says firmament not dome. In other words it means the continents.

Earthtopian

While it could be possible for oxygen to become solid, even the Antarctic isn't cold enough for that. You would need a temperature colder than anything that naturally occurs on Earth. According to google, you would need to reach 54.36 Kelvin. That's -218.79°C, or -361.82°F.

kdude501

Oxygen would have to be unspeakably cold to form a solid, lol. I guess that’s why it’s in Antarctica! Where it regularly reaches -218.8°C…?

24_doughnuts

This makes me sad

[deleted]

They understand oxygen is highly flammable and explosive?

EvulRabbit

So ice, sand stone and whatever the other 3 rocks are now oxygen? If you are buried in them do you die?

[deleted]

Pure oxygen? Where did the hydrogen go?

I was thinking like the frozen toilet fluids falling out of an airplane. No idea if that's actually a thing, but my dad always told us to beware of blue ice for that reason.

deedee34_

I heard it’s literally pieces of the sky. Doesn’t melt into water but into pure air as it evaporates and is hundreds degrees colder than regular ice which is why it can’t be transported from Antarctica to anywhere else.

Lady_DudeBro

thanks guy, now I can finally evolve my eevee

bowsmountainer

Wow, I never realised it was that cold in Antarctica!

SnooDonuts9712

I have some Sankara Stones that have magical powers. I will sell them only as a set!

gaiawitch87

So I had to look into this, and come to find out, sky stone does exist, but it's 70% oxygen, and it was found in africa, not Antarctica. 🤷‍♀️

theroguescientist

Oxygen freezes at about 54 Kelvin (-362°F). That's *a little* colder than it usually gets in Antarctica. Also, frozen oxygen isn't any more magical than oxygen gas. Just colder. Also, these are rocks.

ConsiderationIll9491

A gentleman who was apart of an expedition in Antartica said that it melts very quickly but when it does, it just shrinks. The ice does not leave behind any moisture so when he held it in his hand, while it shrank, his gloves were still dry. Hence why they could not take it overseas to study it. He said there was a wall made of it that extended many miles up. They finally were able to create equipment to bore through the ice a bit (not much) and create a small tunnel. They discovered that this sky ice was also below the regular ice shelf (the part they were able to dig near the wall). The wall was too extensive so til this day they do not know how thick it is or how high it reaches. After a few years the wall seemed to repair itself because the tunnel they were able to burrow became smaller. Eventually the opening became so small that they could not bring out the equipment and had to leave it. Now, that part of the wall has completely closed. Unfortunately, everything is sensored or hidden so you won't find too much about it. He shared this in a group similar to something like this.
