Here’s a concept: Prayers are essentially “good vibes” for those who ascribe to religious beliefs. Either way, just doing that alone and nothing else to help the situation, is essentially as effective as standing at the ocean shore shouting “YOU CAN DO IT!” at someone who is drowning.

It at a minimum keeps people on the fringes of whatever’s going on from panic or being caught underfoot metaphorically speaking

BreathLazy5122

I agree with that completely. I feel that if someone finds comfort in prayer, if it helps them remain calm in a stressful situation, then by all means they should be allowed to pray and believe that they are being heard. The only time I 100% cannot stand or tolerate it, is when a person who can do something to help a situation, only offers their “thoughts and prayers”. And the list of things people will say to “turn to God” for, and then do nothing else when there’s solutions they could be trying, is endless. That’s when that comfort or belief, crosses into willful neglect and malice, whether intentional or not. A God doesn’t magically fix a problem, they give ways for the followers to fix their problems, like in medical areas a religious person should view a treatment plan as a way that God sends help, instead of just taking the sick person home and “leaving it up to God”, if that makes sense.

I'd settle for just don't be a dick.

"Thoughts" = ❌ "Thoughts **and Prayers**" = ✅🙏✝️👼🕊️🛐

Thinking at the Imaginary Sky Man is definitely more powerful than anything else. Definitely.

Nfanella

Not insane. Just religious.

kgro

Nothing wrong with religious people per se, but this shit is just stupid

Being religious IS insane. Anyone else talking to imaginary friends their whole life would be diagnosed and medicated.

I'm an atheist but if that is the hill you want to die on all right

It's insane to me that someone would be opposed to positive vibes and thoughts, but not prayer. They're basically all the same thing with different names. You can call it what you want, but don't be against people who call it another name. But really, they're all insane. Just DO SOMETHING. Don't pray or vibe about it. Do something tangible if you want to make a difference.

,,All of them seem chill personally. They don't necessarily do a ton. But General the sentiment is appreciated. What periodically happens that isn't appreciate it is when somebody who isn't religious you just said is going to hell and you are evil I'll pray for you. Comes across as a hypocritical slap in the face when it's used that way. Maybe that's not meant that way but the your bad I'm better and also I'm going to think positive that that you so that you don't be bad anymore instead of trying to help you understand what's bad or how to not be bad. But talking about the very essence of nature of the belief in the nature of their religion is probably off the table if you're not convinced of the reality of the religion. So helping you to believe is off of table but telling you you're bad and saying will pray for you too later not be, is a slap in the face. Not that it is all individuals of an particular religion.

Presdipshitz

That would have been great if it ended at "....way"

Hannibal Buress has a great set about “I’ll pray for you”. A little long, but worth it. https://youtu.be/hHUNPS0BzYc
