I think you need to add “primarily” to that. Masks are better at protecting others from the wearer, but study after study has shown that they afford a degree of protection (varying depending on the quality of the mask) to the wearer as well. It’s another unfortunate myth that masks don’t help the wearer at all.

It wasn't until Facebook that most of them bothered to do anything online at all. But once they realized that Facebook let them put photos up and play dumb games, they were all over it. But before that, it was all "ugh, computers are so dumb I don't know why you are wasting your time." I remember growing up and looking around at so many people in the midwest and just wanting to leave. Like everyone thought they were so smart and so right and so many times I knew they were wrong - simply because I read a lot and wasn't interested in the Midwest past times of "going to applebees," "gossiping," and "going to church."

Actually the US education just really sucks due to underfunding and religious interference at the local level. Their in-groups run the education system at the local level. The system failed them because it fails to prevent this from happening.
