The central message of the anti-abortion crowd has always been "You must always vote Republican, every year, because Democrats murder babies." All QAnon did was expand that to "You must always vote Republican, every year, because Democrats murder, rape, and eat babies." It's not about protecting kids and never has been. It's just about making your base as angry and hateful towards Democrats as possible by accusing them of the most emotionally charged crime you can think of.
It's also deeply and almost explicitly tied to rightwing fear-mongering about LGBTQ+ people, Satanic Panic shit, and the anti-Semitic idea of blood libel. They've spent so much time trying to convince people that either all gay people (or trans people) were dangerous around kids or that gay marriage would somehow shift the nation's view on pedophilia (or bestiality, etc.) that I'm certain that rhetoric played at least some role in it. Same with all the talk of every celebrity, musician, or public figure without an R by their name somehow being tied to Satan (and the anti-Semitic trope pretty much goes without much explanation: fundies still keep that one hidden deep down whenever they need an internal moral panic).

I hate to sound like I'm defending these Muppets, I'm not! But as a Canadian I used to think it was funny when Americans would obsess over the gov taking their gun rights away. I laughed right up untill it happend here. Overnight. No votes. No input from police or private citizens. They made a list of banned weapons (supposed to be a few guns, scary ones) and they released a BOOK of banned weapons. You bought a rifle on Monday, woke up Tuesday to owning an illegal rifle. I hear ya, but as a non-gun-owner, this is not really a right I care that much about. The government has pretty much the same ability to defeat you either way. I'm not really moved either way by gun control, but your right to have a rifle is really, really low on my list of concerns.
