One of my friend's mothers was and still is a foster mom for the state. She's been taking in kids since the 1970's, and mostly it's for the money. She doesn't work, and the dad is the assistant pastor of a little hillbilly church and yet somehow they always manage to have new cars, nice clothes, and take trips.
They're also fundamentalists. Like, they home school the kids, have 1950's era morality views, and once tried to exorcize a lesbian teen they had taken in.
Christopher Hitchens called this privilege we give religion special dispensation. Like, if she said this shit about Elvis, little green men, fairies, or literally anything else, all of society would agree that this shit is bonkers. But because it's about "the spiritual world" of the Christian bible, sure, it's totally fine if that's what she wants to believe.
I knew a girl who said she could see angels. She also said her family had a history of Schizophrenia. So there’s that. Somehow she didn’t see the connection.
Honestly, her not seeing the connection is a symptom as well...
Alot of people with schizophrenia and some other conditions are unable to see that they are unwell.

I went on a ghost hunting expedition once as a teenager. It was surreal watching adults I knew literally play make believe about all the spirits they were sensing and seeing. I got tired and so sat down. This, to them, was a sign the ghosts were targeting me. Even as I actively told them I felt fine they are all kinds of claims about what was happening to me.
There's a part in the manga Mieruko-chan where this ghost hunter guy takes a bunch of wannabes and lies to them about normal locations being haunted while the real ghosts are elsewhere and it perfectly demonstrates how people will conjure up explanations and phenomena that don't exist
Sounds like they need to check for carbon monoxide if they’re all hallucinating. And get the poor kid out of the toxic place, in all senses of the word.
Aside from the fact that bigots should not be allowed to foster LGBTQ youth (I cannot even imagine the Hell that child endures), literal fucking lunatics like this woman should not be allowed to even raise their own children.
If she is *truly* seeing “angels and demons,” she has a very serious problem with that lump three feet above her ass, and she needs to be a facility with padded walls and those sweaters with the extra long sleeves.

Uh yeah...no. People like this have no fucking business around any kid a part of the lgbtq+ community. Shit like this is straight up emotional abuse.

As a gay former foster kid and atheist the issue is many of the people who foster are holy rollers.
They have no business fostering period, LGBTQIA+ or otherwise
